What does anyone make of this?:
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?p=8941

It looks to me like a hand of an alien character for a 12 inch figure, but I can't seem to narrow it down past that.

Could be a Duros? More Cantina alien goodness to go with Greedo perhaps!

3 fingers... looks like it might be Squidhead.

Wor-Gar
03-02-2010, 03:25 PM
Doesn't Squidhead have flat-tipped fingers?

Also, I just checked some Cad Bane ref and it looks like he's got 5 fingers with fingerless gloves...so it's not Cad Bane if the SS pic really has 3 fingers and a thumb shown.

Oscar_the_Gungan
03-02-2010, 03:28 PM
I want to say its for a 1/6th figure because it looks like its got the same wrist joint as one, but I could be wrong. Just looks like there are too many knuckles for a human figure.

3 fingers... looks like it might be Squidhead.

It's not possible to tell from that picture that there are only three fingers; the pinky could just be hidden.

Not too many knuckles, just very long sections between the knuckles... and very thin for the size of the fingers.

Shropt
03-02-2010, 03:35 PM
Cad Bane wears gloves and there are no gloves. It's not Hammerhead because his hands are much bigger than that.

I'd vote for Squidhead.

IMO bane is not a possibility for this hand... the details on the gloves would be too difficult to accurately replicate as a separate glove.

Although, it does have at least 4 fingers. I've outlined them in blue (except for the thumb)

you have to look pretty close to see the 4th finger tho...

http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss211/the_dude_person/4thfinger.jpg

it is quite possible, as some have said, that there is a 5th... but it looks to me like an Ithorian ("Hammerhead")

I don't have any 1:4 figures so I may be wrong here, but look at the wrist joint. Isn't that the joint of a 1:6 figure?

My vote goes to Hammerhead 1:6.

Wor-Gar
03-02-2010, 05:50 PM
Kaminoans have two fingers and a "thumb". The pic shows 3 fingers and a thumb.

Good guess though, the basic shape is close.

I'm really stumped. I really thought it was Cad Bane until I checked ref. Now I have no idea. Not even sure if its 1/6th anymore.

The wrist is ball-jointed. Like how Hasbro's 3 3/4" elbows and knees are sometimes done.

But it also has a sculpted sleeve. So its looking more like a dio.

DarthNeil

I was hoping for Cad Bane (a great idea for a 2nd release after the CW Anakin, if it's not Ahsoka or Obi) but any 1/6 Cantina alien to go with Greedo would be stellar.

I can hope.... in one hand and poop in the other, we'll see what one is filled first

Geppetto
03-02-2010, 07:01 PM
I think it's obvious that it's not a dio or PF, as the wrist is clearly ball jointed. Also, I don't think that's necessarily a sleeve... The articulation cut at the wrist gives the illusion of a sleeve but it could just as easily be a custom sculpted forearm.

I think it's clearly a 1/6 figure, either Hammerhead or a Cad Bane in progress. SSC has stated in the past that Cad Bane is high on their wishlist of figures to do, that's my official guess. :peace

edit: Nah, I do think that's a sculpted sleeve now that I look up close. And the style of the hand is almost identical to the Cad Bane art posted earlier in this thread, it's gotta be him in progress (awaiting the glove detail, etc). Nice!

I'm still holding out hope of my original guess: Cad Bane. But after looking at it way too long I'm second guessing myself I guess.

It has to be a fairly major character or a really interesting one. I doubt they'd make a Banker.

I'm thinking Cad Bane or at least someone else of his species is the best bet right now. It is possible they'd sculpt the entire hand before sculpting a glove on to it? Or it being a PF with a cloth glove could be a possibility, but that wrist joint has me thinking 1:6 scale.

Their are two Star Wars previews this month in the News Letters , since the 501st Clone was revealed on the back of the CW Anakin Skywalker I'm guessing that will be the first reveal which is in tomorrows newsletter.

Whatever the preview is that they showed could be the second at the end of the month . It could be the Aura Singh PF for the second and SS did say that they have been working on Hammerhead and would do
a Cade Bane .

Since CW is going strong it could be Cade , but also since the Scum and Villany line is getting some attention and we'll be seeing more Aliens towrds the end of the year and into 2011 and we just had the Greedo PPO it could be Hammerhead too!

We'll find out soon enough I guess.

If you haven't bought into the new series I'd highly suggest you check out the three story arc starting in Episode 5 (Landing At Point Rain) of the second season and going through to episode 7. It's a real Band of Brothers story with Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ki Adi Mundi each leading a squad to take out the main droid factory on Geonosis.

Can say Cad Bane would be a pass... I like the series, but not enough to buy a figure of him.

That's a shame... He's a great character (harking back to westerns) and I'd love to have a SSC 1/6 of him in the collection.

Agree, its a neat design and all, but would be a pass. Hammerhead would be a buy though.

Cad Bane OR Hammerhead would both be an automatic buy for me. I'd love for them to continue (after Greedo and the environment) to show love to the cantina aliens just as they had an earlier focus on Jabba's throne room but at the same time I like the possibility of a growing focus on the more recent characters/storylines (with Cad Bane at the top of that list). If it's an Aurra Sing PF then I'm going to be incredibly tempted (much more so than I was for the Darth Talon one which I passed on-- completely unfamiliar with that character and no interest in the look... beyond the obvious :naughty ).

And to me that is a bit of the issue... he's really not "Star Wars" enough for me. I enjoy the character in the series, but he feels too (a lot of it being the western look) out of place in the Star Wars for him to be a buy.

It's Aurra Sing's hand.

The hands to wrinkled for that, and thumb isn't long enough, her thumb is the same length as the fingers.

My guess is Ithorian if it is 1/6 because they would need to do sculpted forearms at least, like Hasbro did with Akbar. Actually the whole arms and legs would need to be sculpted, dam thats gonna be an expensive figure.

I see a few people think it might be a Duros might be to generic for them to do, but what about Nute Grunay, his race is basically the same but green.
But I can't see the need to sculpt a forearm for him.

Though it also seems like maybe a heammerhead hand too which is more humanoid, just 3 fingers instead of 4.

I don't know who it is. But, if it is 1/6, with all that sculpting, it is going to be EXPENSIVE...

I don't think the hand in the tease looks anything like the Neimodian hands. Someone in the other thread commented about Aurra Sing,

I didn't see the other thread, I was just stating I knew for certain it isnt Aurra sing because of the short thumb.

I'm wondering about the white strip at the top of the hand, is that part of the final thing or something to hold the hand in place.

My guess was that's a new type of hand joint for non standard bodies that isn't as obvious when they cant be covered with clothes on bodies that need sculpted forearms.

Didn't they say they would be doing a PF of her or something to that effect a while back?

They gave the hint of a PF in the works.

I am not real familiar with the PFs. Do they have jointed wrists? If so, I would guess Cad Bane PF.

Seems to me that it would be prety difficult (but a damned nice touch) for Sideshow to sculpt the wrist joint pegs on a 1:6 scale figure.

But, despite the fact that it seems PF-ish to me, I do hope that WHATEVER character it is...it is 1:6.

They don't have jointed wrists, but there would be a split at the wrist if it had a switch out hand.

Good. Then I have to start thinking 1:6 unless I am off the mark about that white stripe on the back of the wrist being the center part ofthe wrist articulation.

Edit - And, on a further note, IF this is a 1:6 figure. I really like the way Sideshow went the extra mile to integrate the wrist joint into the sculpt of the hand and arm.

Thats what I thought. Could be the PF then.

I'd rank the other guesses as follows:

2. Nute Gunray (TPM)
3. Cad Bane

LAST. Aurra Sing

Please be Hammerhead. Greedo needs someone to drink with before he gets shot by Han.

And to me that is a bit of the issue... he's really not "Star Wars" enough for me. I enjoy the character in the series, but he feels too (a lot of it being the western look) out of place in the Star Wars for him to be a buy.

That's funny because of all the characters introduced into the SW PT era since 1999 I think Cad Bane might actually most remind me of the type of character we'd see introduced in 70's era SW. :lol

The more I look, the more I think it is Hammerhead. But, it is a great teaser image... as it could be a few others.

Pretty positive it is not Sing as the hands are too gnarled, and I think the figures are too long and rounded at the ends to be Gunray.

Nothing.

What the hell, I thought we were suppose to get the answer? It's not Aurra, is it? It's two separate sneaks.

That's what I thought too... just odd that they promote the sneak AND the reveal in the same newsletter.

MaulFan

Well the tease image just happens to be the first during Fantacular, if they'd done another one the link would have gone to that image or a list of them, it's not really to promote the hand and the Sing PF simultaneously, just happens that hand is still the only production tease up as the sneak for the PF goes to press too.

MicroJow

I still don't think the tease is Aurra's hand because of the wrist joint. I'm thinking the hand tease is from a 1:6 and the Aurra PF coincided.

In the newsletter, the sneak preview shot of the hand is linked in a section promoting Sideshow's Fantacular sneaks, the hand is the first. They're promoting Fantacular in the newsletter. Since that hand is the only tease they've posted from Fantacular, that's the shot that the Newsletter article links to, it's not that they're promoting that particular image.

Basically, I'm pretty certain the hand is Aurra's and it's just coincidence that the only Fantacular tease to link to is still her sneak.

Got it. Sucks for me though. I don't collect PF. I was hoping for something unique in 1/6.

Well, thanks to Isildur's Bane, I stand corrected. I forgot the video about the Sing PF before had shots of the statue in progress with both hands completed, and they're both in closed fists around weapons, so this hand is not hers, at least not the PF, unless there's some alternate exclusive hand.

So the excitement of the potential goes on. Until... the reveal:

I'm still hoping it's Hammerhead. I noticed this from Sideshow's Q&A in January.

Q. I'm really getting into your 1:1 Star Wars Busts. They're awesome! I love the creatures that live in the Star Wars Universe. My number one want is Hammerhead. Do you have plans for his release now that you have been working on some larger aliens in this scale?

A. Hammerhead is getting a little love this year, but the love is definitely smaller than 1:1 scale (so far). He’s definitely a possibility for a future life-size bust but probably not this year.

And since I'm getting into the 1:1 bust line, a 1:1 Hammerhead would be huge! :google

So are we still thinking this hand is Cad Bane or Hammerhead? Or maybe Nute Gunray?

Really curious what this is, especially after Aurra and Gammy.
