...how much are PF's usually?
They are usually start around $250: Sideshow PFs (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=18_figures&source=leftnav&kw=PREMIUM_FORMAT)
On some high-ticket items, Sideshow offers a FlexPay (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=flexpay_main) option, that allows you to pay for the item in monthly installments.
I wonder if the figure is based the early publicity photos?

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but this has to be one of the most exciting pieces shown from Toyfair yet. I don't know the show well enough to guess, but do others have an idea what exclusives/additional accessories she might have? A stake? Crossbow?

I think SS needs to do something about the web site security if
the secret photos are being found early.
Kind of kills the anticipation and the specialness of Toyfair announcements.
I think this is a great sculpt but I don't have the cash for PF's so
I will skip this one.

The likeness on this looks great. Was it Andy who worked on this one? Either way this is a nice line for Buffy fans.
I think that looks great and I'll likely pick it up! It'd be my first Buffy item.
Funny that Attakus's Buffy has supposedly been in approval Hell:
http://www.statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=22291&highlight=attakus+buffy
Yet Sideshow plows right through with a 1/4 PF of her. Bam!
I like this one so far, and that makes a whole other line that will
tax the finances of the many, many Buffy/Angel collectors. :horror :banghead

I was hoping for some sort of wig system for a more real hair look, but I must say I'm pleased by the sculpt. And as Frankenfan said it looks like it's based on S.1 which had a bit more zaftig Buff, hence the cleavage.

I'm very curious to see the full reveal and put that wistful, almost melancholy look in perspective.
And boy, is that paint job going to be a mother to mass-produce!

I just noticed the similarity of the hair and top to those WB promo pix: Didn't mean to imply that was definitely the case. Here're a couple more shots from that shoot:
<a href="http://img473.imageshack.us/my.php?image=buffyx20sq.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img473.imageshack.us/img473/1028/buffyx20sq.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>
And Gooball: Good to see you back around these parts! The Buffy discussions were always lively when you were a regular, and I've missed your commentary!
Well, another of my faux banners goes into retirement with the announcement of this figure, so take a bow, Big Buffy!

The Buffy likeness is stunning. Are we going to see some eyelashes, as introduced for the 1/4 Princess Leia?
Sometimes, I just don't know what to think about some people's comments.
Not to drag politics/religion in here (please not! ) but that remark was quite funny, I thought.
Anyway, I do also hope that Buffy will have a good likeness.. and not only the prototype! ;) I was a bit dissapointed in what I've seen so far from teh Attakus Buffy. And I like the 1/4 PF 's from SS a lot so I hope this one will be as great as the preview makes it look. I'm not a real buffy fan ( a SMG fan I am ;) )but 1 GOOD Buffy figure would be very nice to have!

She looks good, and it had to happen in one form or another, so we should all be pleased. The French have just given us a glimpse, which is what Sideshow would have done, so we should get more detail when the Fair starts.
From what Frankenfan has used as his banner, and the pics he has posted in this thread, I would prefer the Banner Buffy. I think there is enough black, and a more colourful rendition is more appealing to the eye, and would look better on our shelves.
I still worry about Dusty and her teasing comments from a few days ago. She may be able to redeem herself with her comment that there is more to see at the Fair. Thames, I hope it is a Giles mate.

This method works for me, sometimes:
If you have an idea (or guess) of what item might be coming out, you can bring up a similar page and replace the item number/name/date info in the URL. A little trial and error brought up the Mace preview page for me yesterday, and I have also found a few other pages like that in the past, just by patiently trying different numbers or words.
For example, the link for the Mace preview is: www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=021006windu
Alter the date and character, and see what you can come up with! Try replacing "windu" with "legolas" for starters. Or try changing the date code to February 2nd and the character to "wolverine."

Typically, Sideshow either begins the preorders with the release of the newsletter, or in some cases they schedule a Priority Preorder ahead of time. However, due to the large number of new items, and to create some "buzz" and keep us glued to our computers, they will be putting tons of preorders up on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday--virtually at any given moment during Toy Fair.

The PF is based from some promo shots from season1, where in them she was wearing a push up I think. She looks exactly the same when compared from front view.
Im thinking the Buffster will be $225. Same price as freddy. I mean this PF has the least amount of clothing than any other(which in this case is very good)

I was wondering if I might ask for a little help. I have never bought a Premium Format figure before, nor have I used Sideshow's newsletter feature for pre-ordering. So I am a little nervous I may do something wrong and miss out on this beautiful figure.
Though this may sound like I'm a little slow, I would really like to make sure I'm doing this correctly...
**On Monday morning, starting at approxiamately 10am (PST), Sideshow will start offering items for pre-order (including the PF Buffy?)
**From the homepage I click on the newsletter link, sign in with my e-mail address and password and then... (that is where I don't know what happens next!)
Will I automatically be sent to the PF Buffy pre-order page, or will I see the regular newsletter page and there will be a link to the pre-order page? Or is there something else?
Thank you for any help you can provide!
Karen :)

Hi Karen! Ive seen you on BtVsfigs! and on Eternal collector I think! Im the zepposideman and BD's Littleshop of horrors!(stupid having all dif names I know!:wacky )
Well Im sure someone can say this better than I, but basically, signup to the newsletter on sideshow first. then at 10am monday sign into your newsletter account and it will take you to the newsletter hompage with a list of the most recent newletters. Click on the one at the top(the most recent one. It should have the date next to it so you know) and it will take you to the newsletter where there should be a link to the preorder page!). Hope that helps!
If anyone else can say that better, please do! No one should miss out on this!
(I'll be up early getting this!)

Karen, I'll explain this in detail, not to sound preachy, but just so you can get the hang of it as easily as possible. We've all had to learn the ropes here, and BD up there has been a bit mistaken, I'm afraid. So:
As far as we know Buffy will not be a Priority Preorder.
That means that the Priority Preorder process, in which you have to be a newsletter subscriber and logged in to Sideshow at an appointed time, will not apply in this case.
The only upcoming Priority Preorders that we know of are the Wolverine Comiquette on Feb 13th, Legolas 12" on Feb 17th, and Mace Windu 12" on Feb 20th.
All other items revealed during Toy Fair will go on normal sale during that time, in both regular and exclusive variants, should there be any.
Exclusive versions are only available if you purchase them directly from Sideshow. Regular versions are available from other online retailers, usually at a discount. Sideshow offers only FedEx as a shipping option. Retailers give you more of a choice, if FedEx is too pricey for you, or just not your cup of tea, for any reason.
A PF figure usually takes nine months from announcement to shipping. Payment is usually at shipping time, and the Flex Pay payment schedule will be posted on the Flex Pay product page. It's usually around shipping time, as well. Take Lurtz (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=search&item=7165FLEX&type=store) as an example.
Finally, the calendar on the Toy Fair page (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=toyfair06) will give you an idea when the item you want might come up for preorder. The Buffy one is scheduled for Monday. This page will be updated by the web team as soon as any new product is available for preorder.
There. Hope the situation is clearer now, and enjoy the statue, this forum, and our live chats!
:)

Sometimes I wonder if I'm looking at the same pictures as everyone else. It's good and with a fine SMG likeness (indeed, a quite a stunning one in the flash/overexposed shot on rebelscum)... but for me that sculpted hair just ruins the whole look - the horrible blunt/rounded ends to the locks (especially on the left) and the way it hovers above her shoulders rather than resting on it. For me (and others mileage may well vary) it just looks wrong.
And are her pupils a bit too small?

PF hair has to be sculpted, if you want it to have any sort of a hairdo. And they had a specific hairdo in mind, so there was very little else they could've done there.
And people's pupils do dilate, you know... :)

Seretur, thank you for your help! :)
I've done regular pre-orders from the Sideshow site before, so basically all I have to do this time is make sure I'm around when PF Buffy is added to the site. I'll be keeping a close eye on the Toyfare Page on Monday! (Bad news is, I'll be at work when this comes up for pre-order :banghead. Good news is, my boss is out of town on Monday :banana.)
BDboystoys, thank you for your help! This Buffy figure may not be a priority pre-order, but now that you've explained how it works, I should be okay for any future items that come up. (P.S. I'm afraid I've never posted on a site called Eternal Collector before, just BTVSFIGS. I don't get around much. ;) )
Thanks again,

I was hoping for some sort of wig system for a more real hair look, but I must say I'm pleased by the sculpt. And as Frankenfan said it looks like it's based on S.1 which had a bit more zaftig Buff, hence the cleavage.
Zaftig... I learned a new word today. Thank you, Dave!
I've been hearing more and more good things not only about Buffy, but of all of Whedon's work on the small screen as well as Serenity. I've been toying with the idea of buying the complete series of Firefly on DVD but have become very tempted to buy the complete series of Buffy on DVD as well!
This Buffy PF Figure looks tempting as well... :naughty That's saying a lot especially seeing as I don't own ANYTHING related to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

As New York is about five or six hours before Europe, I'd say preorders should be up sometime in the evening, our time. As for Singapore, uh, I've been there seven months ago, but the difference was -- what, seven hours ahead? From Europe. I suppose you'd better check online what the New York/Singapore difference is, but I'd suppose it to be early morning your time.
The exclusive might include the FlexPay option too, it's been done before. But remember: you're charged at the time of shipping, and you can cancel your order beforehand at no additional cost if it's not FlexPay. There's a small cancellation fee if you use FlexPay.
There's a nice FAQ on Sideshow's site that's very useful, so it can't hurt to peruse that a bit as you wait.

Well, there's the whole wigging option - as used by the likes of Franklin Mint, Volks and others. With the money saved on costume/accessory design couldn't SSC have ponied up to pay for some styled wigs ;) I can see the sculpting argument though but for a mixed-media statue my preference would've been to go for a Buffy look which could've been recreated with a quarter scale wig.
As for the eyes - sorry; I meant the whole pupil *and* iris section is too small (compare the PF's to SMG photos); they're just oridinary eyes, not SMG's... and for me lack the wow factor I need from a PF piece.

I just saw this pic. As someone kindly pointed out on another board, this happens to be an inverse image of the pic on one of the Buffy Trading Cards.
I haven't seen anyone mention it before, I was wondering if no-one noticed or just don't care that she is normally right-handed, not left-handed.
I won't deny she uses the stake left-handed occasionally in the series, but when she's posing, not in full action, she always carries it right-handed.
When this was any other statue, it seems to me critics would be all-over that one, but since it's SMG...
Not that I want to be ^^^^^in' about this, I really don't mind, just asking for opinions here.
My only 'negative' from this statue would be the hair, but that's my personal preference, I don't like the static wave of hair in her neck that much, but don't see how SS could have done it otherwise either. They did a great job on this statue, it has incredible likeness!

Oluf (yes?) did an outstanding job on the sculpt, right down to SMG's man-hands and knobby knees, but I wish Hair Master General Andy Bergholtz had done the do. The flip is too exaggerated and needs more volume and definition. It starts out nicely along the hair line and the crown, but it's too compressed, almost rind-like at the ends.
As happy as I am to see a Season 1 Buffy — I really expected a circa Season 3 interpretation — I'm disappointed that the design is based completely on those early WB publicity photos. A major selling point of the PFs is the additional realism real cloth and other media bring to the piece, so why the simple black dress? Buffy had a charming, idiosyncratic sartorial style, typical of a 16-year old girl experimenting with fashion that was an essential part of the juxtaposition of helpless school girl and heroic slayer. That's not reflected here, and it's a huge missed opportunity. Where are her ear piercings and the big, colorful, funky finger rings; Not even her signature cross necklace?!?
Sheesh. Maybe they're saving it all for the exclusive?
And I agree, the stake should be in her dominant hand, her right. :stake
So. It goes on sale on Monday, right? :)

10am PST (California time) is he equivalent of 6 pm London time. I find it hard to believe that SST would change their standard ordering time because the show is going on. Changing time to 10 EST would make ordering time 7 am in California, and though staff is in NYC, Sideshow's business is located, and doing their work in California.

I'm glad they went with an S.1 Buffy and personally wouldn't mind seeing 7 different PFs of her, one from each season. I can see what people are saying about the hair and I even made the argument that the LotR characters would have to have real hair because of it falling to their shoulders. But I don't mind how it was done.
As for no jewelry - it's not in the reference photo, so I can see why they didn't include it. The cross would have been nice though - having a bunch of different layers is one of the big appeals of the PF line so the LBD is a bit disappointing.

Yeah, I just think the source material is an inadequate inspiration for a PF. With just the LDB, this might as well have been a complete statchoo.
I'm going to be really bummed if there is a one-piece limit. :)

Maybe it's just me but Buffy Pf facially looks more like a season 4 or 5
Buffy. Her face is leaner and more thoughtful, even sad.
The Buffy from season one has a fuller face and she is less sad perhaps
a little untamed and naughty.
I maybe off base but that is my take.
She is stunning though and I would buy her if

My apologies that this has nothing to do with the cleavage everyone seems so obsessed about, but today in chat I asked Tom Gilliland about another, more important aspect of the PF Buffy: Why just the simple LBD instead of a more elaborate outfit befitting a typical PF?
SideshowTom: our concern was keeping the project manageable considering we weren't sure how well-received a Buffy i n 1/4 scale might be
SideshowTom: working on the body and trying out a different type of long hair was really where most of the R&D went.
And this encouraging reply:
FrankenFan: Any chance the hair could be tweaked a bit, primarily the flip?
SideshowTom: The hair flip IS being tweaked
SideshowTom: on the production piece the hair should actually sit down on the shoulders more tightly

As with many things and this board, I never would have noticed the hair until it was pointed out that it isn't resting on the shoulders. But it had started to bug me and I'm glad it's being tweaked.
And the LBD gives them somewhere to go with the next version...

Ordered her as soon as she came up for pre-order! This will be my first PF figure, but she's well worth it!
I think the facial sculpt is perfect, so I hope any tweaking that is done is only done to the hair.
I was just on Sideshow's homepage, and PF Buffy is listed as number 8 in the 'Most Popular' section. Director Skinner is listed number 9 and has a low quantity alert of 60 out of 500 remaining. Could this mean that at least 441 PF Buffys have been sold?

I went ahead and ordered the regular version from Alter-Ego. I guess if Sideshow shows some pics of the book and it's awesome, I'll cancel and try to get the flex-pay for this. I just love the likeness.
Stupid PFs - I was able to resist Luke & Han; convinced myself Vader & Grievous were too expensive; loved Obi-Wan, but knew he would lead to Vader & Grievous; couldn't resist Leia; Obi-Wan got the better of me and I joined the wait-list and it was converted to an order; now I've got the Buffy PF. I'm so weak.

I can't stand the name plate. However, the only way I can show my dissatisfaction would be to not order any figure that has a nameplate.
It certainly isn't too difficult to find all sorts of stands whether one you make, or one you can get at a trophy shop that you could use instead of the ones SST provides. A simple small hole drilled into the top and your figure will fit on easily and securely. You could always just turn the Buffy stand around so you don't see the sign and maybe have to redrill a hole and fill in the empty one with putty and you're set as well.

I'm not a fan of nameplates either (although I liked them on the 8" Uni's), but the most distracting element of this one is the bright lilac color the "Buffy" logo is painted, it really pulls your eye away from the figure an down to the base. With apologies to the Master Painters at SC, I sampled some of the orange-brown rust color from the base to colorize the logo, and to my eye, it brings it more in harmony with the rest of the piece:
http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/3476/pfbffybs9bx.th.jpg (http://img462.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pfbffybs9bx.jpg)
It's obvious SC is testing the waters with this figure, but if it performs well enough to justify continuing the line with more characters from the Buffyverse, I hope the hight of the bases will remain consistent to keep the figures in scale with each other.

I can't believe that banner FF! I was watching the episode on the season 5 DVD "intervention" or the ep after it (forgot the name) where Buffy heads out to the desert and meets the first slayer and couldn't help but think that would make an interesting fig. The "quasi - sleeves" would even cover most of the arm articulation. I put a lot of thought into it, and here it is in banner form. Cool!

Darth, I like the way you think!
The Primitive first appeared in "Restless" (S4), and again in "Intervention" (S5) and "Get It Done" (S7).
A visually interesting character vital to the origin and legend of the Slayer, the Primitive would be an outstanding addition to the Buffy line. She could come with the little Shadow Men carousel!!!
She's the first Slayer! We need her!!!

But wasn't the lilac/purple the actual color that was used for the Buffy logo on tv, at least during the 1st season? Where have I seen the logo this color before, other than the Buffy coffee mug I have, that has this same Buffy logo, all in lilac just like the nameplate on this figure?

I'd have to disagree. I think the rust color is too subtle. Buffy has always been associated with purple and lilac (see the SSC boxes from the first 12" set). I think the purple jumps so people won't be saying "who's that?".
But then, I'd prefer for the base to light up and play the theme music too...
GSRJedi
02-16-2006, 06:48 PM
I think the purple does stand out too much, but definitely seems more characteristic of the show.
If it's gonna make sounds, I could do with out the theme song, but quotes from the should would be nice. I might even buy an Andrew PF if it quotes like "One time you died and I was a Mexican." (or was it Mexicoan).

It's on page 12, post #11.
Here are two very similar photos from the Season 1 DVD:
http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/1286/bffyflp6ol.th.jpg (http://img381.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bffyflp6ol.jpg)
The pic on the left is from the inside cover flap. Note that the stake is in her right hand and her hair is parted on the left. The pic on the right is from page two of the DVD episode guide, stake in her left hand, hair parted on the right. The PF Buffy is clearly based upon the photo on the left.
So what is the correct orientation of the photo? SMG usually parted her hair on the left, and is right-handed. But in the photo on the right, with the stake in her dominant hand, her hair is parted on the right.
So what does all this mean? I don't know and I don't care! I gots me a Premium Format Buffy!!!
Although the addition of a cross necklace would be nice.

I suggest you put in a shipping request form, available from the Sideshow site.
I have bought PF's from our good board dealers, and it is around US$80. I think that was USPS. So expect it to be way more from Sideshow. Although I think you may be able to choose your mail service now. I have been thinking about a PF utilising the bad guy offer. If they fix the hair, I'm sold.
BTW, you should see the R4 season 1 dvd artwork. The designers mustn't have known about the other characters, as we get about twenty different images from the same session (the one from which the figure is based).
In terms of actual shots, there are about seven or eight different ones.
