Here's a project I've been working on for a couple days now... figured he'd be a good addition to the Endor Troopers Sideshow released a few years back.
I haven't painted him yet, but I did give him a thin wash of paint to help with the photographs (sculpey always photographs poorly). The head was done from scratch and they eye patch is separate so you can have either the Orrimaarko character or a different Dressellian.
Once he's finished the eye patch will sit flush, but for the mock-up the string is in the way.

And a mock-up with a hooded cloak:

No doubt about that, their are like 4 different Prunefaces in ROTJ, and between them all about 1/2 second of screen time.:rotfl
Looks awesome, the ones in ROTJ were suppose to be commandos if I remember, would be cool to see a finished guy posed with the Sideshow Rebel Commandos.

I've got a Nik Sant coming and I plan to use a lot of his clothes for now. And I found what looks to be a close match to the weapons they carried; a German Kar98K.

In my opinion most of cooler stuff from the films will never be made by some of these companies, as some of the cooler characters and aliens are only seen for a few seconds in the films. Also I believe for the most part, if it cant work with one of their standard human bodies, and only needing hands and head sculpts, Sideshow isn't likely to touch it, unless theres a huge demand and even then they gotta worry about production costs. I don't believe we will ever see a Hammerhead and such, also I don't count on a Chewbacca that's much better than any Hasbro did cause I am sure he wont be hairy, just plastic, or it will cost $400 and be limited to 1000:rolleyes:
But like Chakaman said "who needs them":horror
Because as long as people can sculpt and make clothing and the other bits, the only thing that's a problem to do custom from scratch would be things like Stormtrooper and Clonetrooper armor and such. So even then we don't need them for much.:maul
galactiboy
01-23-2010, 08:59 PM
It does look like Sideshow is moving into some non-standard body figures (Hammerhead and the Max Rebo band have all but been confirmed) but a lot of characters will still likely never get made; like Pruneface, and even if they are its still fun to make our own, or even our own take on them.

GB, what do you use for eyes? I've never attempted a head sculpt but don't people use BBs or something? Please excuse my total ignorance.
galactiboy
01-25-2010, 02:38 PM
I generally use airsoft pellets, although I've heard of others using BB's. I think either will work fine, or you can also just roll two ***** of sculpey, bake 'em and make your own.
For this guy I started with the airsoft, but after I did the first baking I realized the eyes were way too small and I had a number of other isues. So I sculpted a larger eye onto/over the preexisting one (you can see some of the original ball in the inside corner of his eyes :lol).
Other people can just sculpt the eye into the sculpey, I don't have that ability and found a solid base works best for me.

Hey, this sculpt is looking very nice! I'd be interested in getting a cast too if possible.
I started a bash of him quite a while ago that's sort of been on hold. I was never quite sure what I'd do for the head, save trying to sculpt one myself. But I don't really like sculpting and don't think I'm very good at it.
Here's a little shot of how far I got. The hands are a modified Plo Koon's. I was going to make the vest and cloak but its just pieces right now.
A few little costume notes I've noticed:
- For screen accuracy, Nik Sant's pants are closest with the lower pockets. Technically, Prune Face has more pockets than the Endor troop figures though including some on the back of the thigh.
- The "vest" is the same thing the Hoth Troopers have. There are 4 little metal things attached to the right front. I noticed Sideshow sculpted one of these and put it on the Endor Trooper's bandoleer.
Also, a quick picture of him from the side from Star Wars Chronicles. Hadn't seen this one posted yet:

I'd love for you to have copy to finish your figure... the hands on yours look great; very close to the images I've seen on-line.

Nice thing about the Endor gear is that its not too hard to find the troopers for a good price. In the last few months I've gotten 2 Nik Sants for about $20 each and a Sergeant for $40.
And Nik's head would be a cool insert for a Scout Trooper as he's seen in that armor.

Started working on the boots. I did a some black and brown washes on the gaithers and tied them in place using black, cotton yarn. The ref pics show the gaithers almost black like the boots. I needto see if I can find some better pics of the boots.
So fun to do a random, background character like this.

Bill,
Here is a shot of a cloth i found at joann fabrics last year when i was trying to make the poncho.
i really like the softness of the fabric...unfortunately i just couldnt wrap my mind around the pattern. the collar was so hard as well as making it so that the edges hang in front of the body, yet it should not be tight as if rolled in a blanket. i just couldn't do it!
I am so glad an expert is doing it now!
i will include a scrap of the fabric along with the other endor stuff if you'd like to use it for comparison.

But I feel much better now.
Bill,
Here is a shot of a cloth i found at joann fabrics last year when i was trying to make the poncho.
i really like the softness of the fabric...
Thats exactly the type of cloth I was thinking to use, got mine at Joann's also, Its a good color, and matches the the film costume when scaled down. The problem I had is its a bit stiff and doesnt draped well at all which is more important for capes and hoods, but I think I might have found a good fabric.
What I'd like to get is the exact fabric the Hasbro boussh jacket is made out. Its got the same look but its thinner and has a looser weave.

I dont have one at the moment.
Mark sent me one along with the Saesee Tiin and couple of Barada heads, but I'm starting to think the postal service ate them up, hopefully they show up unharmed, he sent me something else a few days after he shipped them and that showed up a while ago, but who knows what can happen with more than one countries flaky postal services handling it.:lol
that looks stunning Bill! you've got the pattern down for sure. was it tricky? i'm not that experienced cutting, but man I thought it was really tricky, looks like a breeze for you! :)
BTW what do you think of the fabric I included in the package?
The pattern was fairly easy, it was the figuring out how I wanted to attach the hood and the pockets that were a pain, at least the closure was easy since I just did exactly what they did with the original.
The fabric you sent actually was the same stuff I was gonna use but I could never get it to lay right, it is just a bit to stiff, which sucked cause it looked right. The shape you had cut out was pretty close to what I did, so that was pretty much the problem you were having it seems. The stuff I'm using now has a looser weave so it drapes good, and will be better on the next since the bottom hem won't be thick. I'm also thinking of taking some light sandpaper to outside and inside of this one and see if it softens it and it may even make it look a little better (might fuzz it up a little), not to mention this one never got its fabric softener soaking.
BTW thanks again for the endor gear. :duff
From all the prop shoots Ive been looking at (not that theres many) it seems the endor boots are exactly the same but his are black or dark brown, I was thinking of painting the green part black, and the laces brown and leaving the toe part the way it is and mabee doing black wash over the whole boot when I'm done. I just hate the idea of messing with what is already a well painted pair of boots. I was also thinking of making new shorter spats that are very dark brown and laced up the front.
ProgMatinee
03-11-2010, 07:31 AM

I realized I totally forgot to post the pictures of the finished Prune Face capes and vests. So here they are.
The cape has a wired hood so it can be shaped to look good with with either the hood up or down, and the 4 pockets on each side were sized to fit a standard piece of model sprue/tree since it seemed like an easy thing to make the doodads out of, it basically the diameter of a SS light saber. The cape will dye very easy if needed using normal dye or colored with just a bit of acrylic paint mixed into water to make it camouflaged. Also keep in mind the one in this picture wasn't futzed or water treated and such like the prototype cape, also taking a bit of very fine sand paper to both sided before coloring it will loosen it up a lot.
The vest is padded and Velcro's closed on each side so its not noticeable except from the back, and this was the prototype one so the closures on the rest look a bit better from the back. Having the Velcro closure means it should fit any figure body nice and snug, its on a standard older Dragon right now, but the head will have to be off the figure to get it on. Actually the figure it is on now has a big upper chest area, so it will look much nicer on a better body. Also the shirt on him is an old Weequay shirt from my reject bag, so its a bit baggy and seems to throw off the look a bit to me.
The last picture is one of the best reference pictures I could find of a full view of the vest, I think this was reference blueprint used by Kenner or Hasbro if I am not mistaken.

We're also lucky he didn't rake us over the coals like Kato and Betomali does as far as charging $100-$200 for clothing. Custom clothing is an expensive proposition... I was blown away with how inexpensive his Weequay outfits were; I was expecting at least $50-$100 given how much custom clothing usually costs.

Looks good man. The camo pattern on the cloak really turned out nice.
I need to finish mine, I was lucky enough to get one of your headsculpts and one of those cloaks from Bill. But like you, I have had it laying around and not finished it.
Congrats on getting him finished. :)

The Endor troopers compliment your Pruneface nicely.I too am fortunate to have a cast of your sculpt as well as a set of PF gear by the dearly missed Vivisect.Seeing your's makes me want to get working on him.

Thanks, I was really worried about possibly messing up my poncho with the camo. But luckily I'm happy with how it turned out.
Really looking forward to seeing what you do with yours!

I do have one from Vivisect. I have the put together on the shelf, except the head is unpainted and the cape is not dyed. Also need to make an eye patch.
