So, I am doing a few of these. I am already working on a couple of Weequay outfits and have Lando already done. I googled some images of the other guards and there are some pretty cool ones. The human ones should be fairly easy to do I would think.

Having said that, has anyone else done any of these guys?? I know, like there isnt enough stuff going on in this section.:D

Thanks guys!

Chakaman-I was wondering if in your search for pics,if you stumbled across this one.
http://www.skiffguards.com/index.html

Lopie-I would love nothing more to share my works with everyone interested other that mere pics.Unfortunetly,I don't have the funds to invest in casting materials right now.But when that day comes,I will be spreading the word here 1st.

Dorg-The horns are small dowels(1/8")sanded to a somewhat, blunt point.I drilled & epoxied them in place in the early phase of sculpting. They worked out great having them for referance as well as a rigid base for parts that would possibly break off

I am sure you could get quite a few interested folks if you started casting customs heads.

Welcome Captnrex!

That is one fine looking Weequay you have there.I like your choice of clothes you gave him.The viking tunic works well.
Did you do the head yourself?

CaptnRex
12-20-2009, 01:15 PM
Thanks for the welcomes eveyone, I had to join after seeing everyones customs here, amazing stuff.

enaud - yeah I did the head of the Weequay myself. I cheat a bit though as I use a regular Sideshow human head and sculpt over the top of that, sand away hair etc, this way I have a base to work with already. :horror

Dorgmal Snow
12-20-2009, 01:19 PM
Thats exactly what I did with my Djas Phur, I really wanted to keep the eyes, and I dont think its cheating at all, LOL. Brilliant work and please post more pics Rex

Dorgmal Snow
12-20-2009, 01:28 PM
That would be great. I love the outfit to. Can you give us the recipe? the tunic and gauntlets are just chuffin great.

CaptnRex
12-20-2009, 01:48 PM
The tunic is from a viking figure, Ignite Viking? It was loose parts bought off ebay so hard to give exacts. It looks like leather and has a cool pattern.

The gauntlets I made out of a scrap piece of hard vinyl type of material with holes in it, cut then wrapped around the arms with the cuff folded back.

Sorry chakaman if I've taken over your thread. Just thought I'd give some ideas.

Here is a rough mock up of the human "un-named" skiff guard from the second skiff. Lots to do on him, just kinda threw all the parts together to get a quick peek at what he is going to look like.

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/30054419/aview/skiffguard1.JPG

When I was looking at all the reference pictures of these guys, I noticed at how quickly and randomly they threw these outfits together. They re-use a lot of the same style helmets, armor and clothes for these guys, kinda funny.

Having said that, there are a lof of really cool "bash" possibilties.

Chris

I think it looks great, it does look like the picture.

Thats what they used for Kenner and Hasbro figures, which why they used blue on all their versions, though they used much to dark of a blue. Thats why I like to look for prop shots because lighting has a big effect on color as you can see in this picture because the shirt changes from white to gray to blue depending on what picture you look at.:lol

Awesome, now isn't there a skiff you should be building.:D

Since I will be having a couple Barada soon courtesy of 'Mr. Snow", I decided to get going on the outifts.

I will probably redo the bandolier, perhaps Bill could be of some help there. If not I have some ideas on pouches. I kinda threw it together as a mock up. I am also going to do a couple more washes on the pants. They are not as bright as seen in the picture, they are just a little wet thats all.

Yep of course Ryan no probs, with or with out a neck?
I just glue gun the head straight on to the neck ball joint.

The Weequay heads were my first custom heads I've ever had, and wasn't sure at first how to
attach them and keep any articulation and such at first. So after I cut the neck down to where I
needed it I just lubricated the head post on the neck, filled the hole in the head with hot glue (not
to much that it spills out) and pushed it on, and when it dried just gave it a twist and now its
the same as if it were made for the body, it twists and turns and is easily removable.

damn that's looking nice... might have to get one of these sets. you still offering the heads dorgs?

If your interested in the clothes also just send me a PM, I made extra a few extra sets in the last

Wow, that looks awesome. What body are you going to use, to get the right bulky look?

That could easily be done either using a padded fat suit like sideshow
did for the Shaun of the Dead Ed figure or just padding out the body
by wrapping strips of cloth around it till it looks right with the clothing
over it. Using thinner strips like 1/2"-3/4" shouldn't hinder articulation
at all

dont really sculpt or anything but waiting on parts and such and in between projects so thought i'd break out the sculpey. still really rough and doubt i'll ever end up finishing it but thought i'd show it anyway. no idea how i'd even do the horn things on the forehead and sides of face so just balled up sculpey for the pics.

Vivisect

Cool, that's a great start and you should finish it, you could do all kinds of things for horns, like sculpting them separate, baking them then
sticking them in the sculpt. Or if you plan to cast it later the horns can be made out of anything, like wood for toothpicks and such.

You never know what will happen, if you keep at it you might find sculpting to be your thing, I found out I could sew tiny little crap on a whim.

My wife was having trouble sewing a dress on her sewing machine about 13 years ago, and I got tired of the flood of profanities spewing forth
and interrupting a movie I was watching:horror, So I tapped her on the shoulder and shoo'ed her out of her chair, asked how this thing works, and
after a 2 min explanation I finished what she was working on and went back to my movie (Ive been called a seamstress on many occasions since
by her).

The next day my stepson comes over to me with a ripped GI Joe jacket and asked me to fix it. He had apparently lost faith in his mothers sewing
abilities and figured if I do it he wouldn't have to stay in his room with his ears covered, and after I got a better look at how it was made by fixing
it, and after going to the fabric shop I had made him full 3rd infantry uniforms for 4 more of his GI Joes so they would match the one I fixed. After
that I was making all kinds of crap for him, his friends, myself and eventually my friends.

So its good to try your hand at anything you got the time for, because you never know what you will end up being good at. If someone told me
when I was in high school that sewing would be one of my future hobbies, I'd have punched that person right in the nose.:rotfl

Anyhow, I've been contemplating sculpting a few heads, but its been about 12 years since I've tried any serious sculpting. Well besides little
dodads, belt buckles and spikes. But I'm thinking I'll try and have a go at something when I want a short break from the sewing machine.

galactiboy
02-15-2010, 09:35 AM
I usually will bake things like horns or teeth seperately and then sculpt around them. I did that will Snaggletooth's tooth and with the teeth on Redskull.

And in general I will usually sculpt in sections. Neck first, then face, then add ears then sculpt hair (or headgear). That way I have a solid base and that I can work on w/o fear of damaging the previous work.

Ryan1982
02-15-2010, 11:46 AM
thanks guys!

haha good stuff bill. i'll keep my trying hand at it and see how it goes.

the sculpting in sections idea sounds pretty smart, i'll give that a go as well.

and Dorgs you are too kind my friend. i'll send you a paypal in minute

I had to dremmel off most of the back of Lando's head to get it to fit. Its a great helmet, I am actually using it on 2 other skiff guards I am currently working on.

They are kinda hard to find. I just won an auction of 12 helmets, hopefully there are a couple skiff guard helmets in there. I dont like buying them this way, but it was the only ones I could find at the moment.

It seems according to the way things work here I couldn't receive feedback unless I post in the For Sale/Trade area, and I couldn't post there until I've been a member for 3 months. So I don't know how to going about leaving feedback for others either.

So till I figure it out, I'm just glad people are happy with there stuff.

02-17-2010, 04:59 PM
Nah, I already left you positive feedback.

You can't post anything for sale in the commerce section... but you have access to the thread I posted. The Want to Buy/Want to Sell is accessible to all members... that is why the feedback thread is there, so even if you are a new member you can still leave feedback if you got something from a fellow member.

The iTrader (next to everyone's avatar) doesn't work anymore, so the board went back to the old system.

Important information regarding the Weequay heads.

Right well I have some bad news I am afraid and some great news.

Bad news.....The weequay heads are no longer available.
Good news... the sculptor is now known

Basically as most of you know I bought a cast off e-bay about a year ago and loved it so much I tried to get another one. But the a seller said he did not make it and had no idea who made it, it was all very strange.

Any way I then spent months searching loads of forums trying to find out who sculpted it but to no avail.

I wanted to say how fantastic it is and possibly get another one.

Well that was a year ago. Now I really wanted another one so I got into casting and decided to cast a few Weequays, and then passed them on to other forum members as they are so cool. The price I charged was just to cover cost of material really.

Well apparently the chap who actually sculpted it has contacted Dave the forum boss and would rather I stopped casting them which I totally understand.

So I am not doing any more casts.

Hopefully I will be able to chat the the sculptor just to personally thank him and let him know that there are few very proud owners of Weequays on the forum.
I really hope that he sees every ones fantastic work and how much we all love that sculpt and the joy and creativity that his work has brought to the forum.

I seriously hope that I have not offended him by casting his work, I just wanted other folks to be as lucky as I was to have one.

Maybe he will do casts for us! That would be amazing.
