I cut up my old kotobukiya biker scout and put him on a 1/6 body. I then made a diorama for the speeder bike and then repainted the speeder bike itself.

That's wild CBob, nice work. Is it meant to be a stand alone, or do you plan to do a Luke and place them side by side or something? A space hog to be sure, but it would look fantastic!
Awesome job on the Scout and stand Mark!! :rock

Wow, that is damn fine looking xil3f!!! You really put some time and effort into making those two pieces shine :rock
One small suggestion... have you considered using a HT narrow shoulder body? The shoulders look a bit too broad on the trooper; and I think a narrow would take care of that.

Awesome repaints on the speeder bikes you guys!
I have been wanting to do this myself, lately, in anticipation of the Sideshow Biker Scouts.
So I just picked up 2 of the 1:6 Speeder Bikes on ebay for 28.01 each...shipped.
The first think I will be doing is taking one apart.
I am seriously thinking about doing the cold weather paint job on it. But then I would need a cold weather Biker Scout as well.

Great work on ALL the Scouts and Speeders ( the little 'un's a cracker too). This figure has been one of my "grails" for a number of years and now that I have a Speeder on the way , I'm going to have to really try to hunt one down .

Hey Bob , sounds a daft question , but what colour did you use on your Speeder ? The actual colour of the studio miniatures was brown , though they showed up green on screen ! This , added to my slight green/brown colour blindness, makes it tricky for me to match a good colour !! ( 99% of the time I have no problem with green/brown discrimination , but the Speeder Bike's colour falls in that 1% that I do have trouble with ! The "Aliens" Marine Pulse Rifle is another example ).:gah:

( With thanks to bidufarewell for sorting me out with the Speeder !)
Crimsonbob
07-05-2010, 01:58 PM
Well i primed the whole thing black then i done several washes of dark brown/black and then a wash of a green/brown/black at the end. I also had difficulty with the ratio but if you use mostly brown with a smidge of green you cant go wrong.
thundergod
07-05-2010, 02:16 PM
Cheers Bob ,that's pretty much what I planned to do , I just wondered if there was a "straight -from-the-can " colour that'd save me the time/effort of all the boring paint mixing malarkey !:lol
As for the Speeder itself , when mine arrived today , it was the very first time I'd laid eyes on one "in the flesh " and I'm really surprised how good it is . It must be the best Star Wars item Hasbro released in 1/6 . The scale , proportions and general detail are pretty damn spot on and I can't wait to get stuck in painting it up .:yess:

Yeah they are nice i love mine. Neyo looks great :wink1:
When i painted mine i just mixed em up got a big *** brush painted it all then buggered off and left it for 20mins, then came back and gave it another bash. the longest bit was repainting the metal parts and adding scratches etc. It took me a day to do the bike (being lazy) and about 5hrs to do the base.
thundergod
07-05-2010, 02:49 PM
The base looks great Bob , if the Mrs allows me the display space , I'd like to do something along those lines myself .
Crimsonbob
07-05-2010, 02:57 PM
Its pretty easy to do, i used an old chipboard shelf and took a chisel to the corners. The bits i knocked off i turned upside down and glued em back on to give it mounds. I sprayed the whole thing black then painted it brown and green etc. Added some games workshop grass here and there. Made a few bike supports from metal garden plant holder rods. A few aquarium plants and figure twisties round the rods. A bit more paint a few more plants, stones etc and it was done :peace

Hey guys i'm stunned by the work you guys have done! Great thread Cbob. Question: Is the Speeder Bike just the Hasbro one ive seen kicking around ebay for 30/40 quid? Also whats the best recommendation for a Biker Scout kit bash? Think its my turn next! Cheers
Nash
Crimsonbob
07-05-2010, 03:15 PM
Yeah its just the hasbro 1/6 bike. The hasbro biker scout is the 1 most people are bashing but they are quite pricey to buy nowadays. I used a kotobukiya vinyl statue for mine. Dorgmal snow is selling biker scout armour kits and vivisect is doing the cummberbunds so thats an easier route. Sideshow will eventually be doing biker scouts but when i dunno :dunno

Cheers
Nash
Yeah its just the hasbro 1/6 bike. The hasbro biker scout is the 1 most people are bashing but they are quite pricey to buy nowadays. I used a kotobukiya vinyl statue for mine. Dorgmal snow is selling biker scout armour kits and vivisect is doing the cummberbunds so thats an easier route. Sideshow will eventually be doing biker scouts but when i dunno :dunno
I will be doing another batch of Scout cummerbund and pouches in a about 2 weeks, and will be throwing in body suits, neck cover, and leather ankle holsters cheap for people that get the armor sets. So that shouldn't leave much to get after that to finish a scout.

To make things easier its better if people send me PM's about wanting stuff just so there's less of a chance I will miss it. Just don't want people to be irritated later that i didn't have them on a list for something because i missed a post, that's all.:horror
But thundergod, I do got you on the list now, so no worries. :)
I will probably start a new thread when i get started on the batch, because that will likely be the last batch of scout stuff i do for quite a while and I will want to make sure every one is aware of that because I want to get started on some Jedi gear because I need some for myself and a lot more people are interested in that over the scout stuff, and that list keeps growing like crazy.:horror

Its an MG 42 machine gun, re purposed as a bad *** sniper rifle from a galaxy far, far away. :rock
They used a lot of WWII-Korean war stuff for Star Wars props, the Hasbro 12" Dengar, Ig88, and 4-Lom all come with one, but not as nice as the one he used, the Hasbro's are a little bulky looking. Nice ones are easy to get from Dragon and such. Actually you can still pick up blister packs of 2 by 21st Century Toys on eBay for about $10, and they are quite good quality especially if you are going to paint them anyway.

It's actually an MG 34 , not 42 . The MG 42 was the one with the bulkier barrel . Star Wars utilised both and this caused confusion , especially with Dengar who was photographed with both . ( I'll take off my anorak now , it's very warm in here !) :lol
P.S , the sight is a modern addition , I've done the same with one I used for a Stormtrooper .

Close enough :nana: ....Ok, mabee not. :)
The scope is a great addition, its cool how if you have never seen one of these guns before you could easily think it was a made up scifi sniper rifle, Or even just the way they are with out modding them they could pass for made up props.
I would like to find a 1/6 mg 42 with the squared off cooling thing over the barrel, but all I ever run across are the round barrel versions.

A little off topic, but has anyone here actually held a real MG-34? Those things are heavy as hell! I can't imagine having to run around in warfare carrying one of those, which is why I suppose they had teams of two with them, one to carry the gun, the other to carry the ammo!

yeah Vivisect made the cummerbund and pouches which was amazing!!! Folks also either used a body suit or v tight black top and then a pair of black combat trousers. The boots were german army marching boots spayed white/
Some folks also replaced the hasbro bucket with a Tomy helm as the visor lifts up...
The chest armour just need cutting down at the back and then all the rest of the armour just needs the elastic tightening. The shoulder bells also can be replaced with stormie shoulder bells with the ridge sanded off. Oww and ofcourse a body swap....
I can sort you out with casts of body armour and I have made and cast up shoulder bells....
Scouts are great and well worth the effort.

Sorry i wasnt notified i got replies ^^
Thanks for the details on the custom, i also saved your tutorial ^^
Well let me know if your offer's still on for a full set (armor, bells, gloves). Il already ordered some gloves and have Soldier Story SAD NIGHT pants but still havent found boots nor the tomy helmet (dont really care for it opening but it seems less bobbly than the original).
Does the original hasbro black suit can be used for the top?
Gonna contact Vivisect the cummerbund and pouches hope he still do them^^
Wanted to do some light weathering on the bike itself, what advices and methods do you think could be good for adding some silver dents or make the black motor part a bit more metal feel (dry brush maybe?)?
Thanks for your help again.

Is anyone gonna buy the scouts when SS get around to announcing them? Im in a dilema ive spent a small fortune on bits & bobs for the custom Scout im currently making but dunno if to put it all on hold or stop completely & wait to see how good SS are i only tend to customize figs that i know are long disscontinued or will never be released only thing is i doubt they will make it with an over head helmet grrrrrr if that is the case the helmet wont even have flip up face plate:(
Hey Mark you still selling those scout armour casts? I'm too lazy to sculpt or cast myself lol

Well ive admired all the custom scout troopers on the site & gotta say just amazing i didnt notice anyone using actual black clips & white harness for the belt section? So i thought i'd show you all what im attempting to do lol very adventurous i know but worth a try here a list of what im gonna attempt & what im using
Boots - Hot Toys - Inglourious Basterds : Col Hans Landa
Black clips - Art Figures - Saves (The Punisher) black pouches
White harness - Dragon WWII "Bob Richardson" - British Military Police
Bendy hands- Soldier story with Hot Toys joint
Leather im using for gloves- Hot Toys - Inglourious Basterds : Col Hans Landa.
The harness parts are basically done they just need cut to length & attached to belt & thigh boxes. The larger clip & harness is to secure the belt on the rear of the figure.
As you can see i have experimented with white vinyl on the boots instead of the usual painting white it works very well the vinyl is quite stretchy so moulds perfect to the black boot underneath & hides the stitching which is on the side of the standard DID WWII boots i just glued this on with leather adhesive. The hot toys boots are a little too tall so they will have to be cut down before applying the vinyl
Next thing im really nervous about is making actual gloves out of the leather coat ive cut up to go on the bendy hands will it work? who knows but gotta try i have some thin black suede material to go on 2 fingers & the thumb as per the movie version im trying to work out how im gonna get the 4 ribs that are on the knuckle part of the glove they have to be movie accurate i hate being a perfectionist lol
Will keep you all updated on the progress but if anyone has every attempted something similar please share your experience

Hey just thought, has anyone ever added a holster to theior speederbike or to the scout rider for the E11 Blaster? Or maybe one of the bigger weapons?
I`m toying with the idea it`s just a matter of wether to mount a holster on the bike or add a E11 holster to a Biker Scouts belt.

I use fine wire wool for taking the paint off SS armour. As long as you can get a smooth "keyed" surface it,ll take paint with no prob,s though I always use acrylic paint. As for spare trooper armour check out Collectablekitbash.co.uk. I,ve just bought some ss blackhole + sandtrooper armour off him with the same idea that you have in mind.

Thanx Dorgmal, as for the parts used on the grey "thingy"(sorry, dunno whatcha call it!) I mainly used bomb + external fuel tank parts from the Revell 1/32 Tornado, plus plastic card + pipe. It needs a bit more work but I,m very pleased with it so far. The white "engine" parts behind it are scratch built from more plastic card and theres a new bulkhead in front also from plastic card. I,ve also made provision for a single central stand to replace the double Hasbro ones. Another mod I made was to close the upper + lower front body halves where the forks protrude, plus I,ve scratchbuilt a new part to replace the "thingy"(sorry again!) that sits forward of the main body between the forks. Theres still a lot more to modify/replace but, hey, I,m getting there!:panic:
