Had one since launch and love it.

Here's some good news for LOTR fans:

EA Announces the Lord of the Rings, the Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360; Players Can Now Command the Epic Battles of Middle-earth from Their Living Room Couch

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Jan. 13, 2006 -- Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) today announced that the highly anticipated PC game, The Lord of the Rings(TM), The Battle for Middle-earth(TM) II will make its exclusive console debut when it ships in Summer 2006 on the Xbox 360(TM). Players can now command epic Middle-earth battles presented in spectacular high-definition from the comfort of their very own couch. To add to the intensity of the experience, The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360 is the first game in The Lord of the Rings(TM) series that will be playable over Xbox LIVE(TM)(1). Players will be able to challenge friends online and engage in intense, action-packed real-time battles.

"Living these cinematic battles in high-definition with stunning surround sound, all from the comfort of your living room couch on the Xbox 360, is an extraordinary experience," said Louis Castle, VP of Creative Development at EALA. "Adding the ability to battle it out with friends via Xbox LIVE is also really exciting."

Based on the PC version of the same name, The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360 will bring players into the heart of Middle-earth to live the battles seen in the blockbuster New Line Cinema films and classic J.R.R. Tolkien literary fiction. The game boasts a new and intuitive console-specific control scheme that will allow novice players to enjoy the game's signature strategy gameplay while giving expert players the flexibility needed to engage in a deeply complex strategy experience. Players will directly control hundreds of units in an attempt to defeat enemy armies, conquer new lands, and seal the fate of Middle-earth.

Developed at EA's Los Angeles studio, The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360 offers players a new depth of The Lord of the Rings fiction never before explored in an EA console game. The game makers at EALA have brought The Lord of the Rings world to life in accordance with an agreement with The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Tolkien Enterprises that grants EA the rights to develop games based on the books, in addition to a separate agreement that allows for games based on the New Line Cinema films.

The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360 has not yet been rated by the ESRB and the PC version is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB. For more information about either game, please visit: www.bfme2.ea.com. For information about all of EA's games, please visit EA's press site at www.info.ea.com

The Xbox 360 version, designed in-house at EA Los Angeles, features what is being touted as a unique and intuitive control scheme by the studio's Vice President of Creative Development, Westwood co-founder Louis Castle.

"People will want to say, 'this is a port,' and well, it is and it isn't," Louis Castle told Gamasutra in an exclusive interview. "It's actually a re-imagining of the core compulsions that the PC games had, and in a way that's inherently intuitive to a console controller. It's a huge undertaking, and we've got a fairly large team working around the clock to make it a quality product."

The exact details of this new control scheme have yet to be revealed, nor has the proposed release date, and EA is remaining tight-lipped for the time being.

"We're not treating it as a mouse, it doesn't have a big complex display, it really is native to what you think of with camera movement and navigation for a console game," continued Castle. "And I can leave you to imagine from there."

Additionally, the game will feature Xbox Live support, including voice over IP and a number of Xbox 360-exclusive modes, including FPS-favorites "Capture the Flag" and "King of the Hill," though in a real-time strategy setting.

its great and i think it's totally worth the money. it's so light you can barely feel it in your ear, the reception is excellent, and for the cost of a game you get a great piece of hardware that is guaranteed by MS. its great because if you need to grab a drink in the kitchen you no longer have to take the headset off, put everything down and etc. with this you just set the controller down and walk away.

had another visit from the red lights of death. this will be the 4th system i've returned and will receive my 5th one in a few weeks. this is beyond ridiculous. i must be doing something wrong because this can't be normal. the power brick has plenty of breathing room and so does the system. it must be something from xbox live freaking up my systems. da###$$$!!!!!!! on top of that it's my birthday and i can't play cod 2 online!!!!

EDIT: Just called microsoft and was told that i have to pay $130 to repair it. I have had this "replacement" system for 4 months and the warranty ran out in 3. This is the 4th one i have had in a year and a half and now because it ran 30 days over the 90 day warranty they want me to pay! i emailed them and told them i would not pay and they needed to stand by their product. if they will not replace it I will sell my 20 games and be done with them. frustrating!

the upgrades will just be a bigger hard drive, which you would be able to buy and a quieter fan(the current one is either full throttle or off) which should be able to be adjusted by a download for current 360's.....not that i'm taking up for the 360 because i'm ticked at them at the moment. the ps2 i had(when they first came out) died after 9 months and sony wanted me to pay $175 to fix it even though it was a know faulty pary on their part that they never publically admitted and that's why i don't have a ps3....i guess i've had bad luck with a few systems...maybe i should stop kicking them really hard when i turn them on, huh? :)

with all the problems i've had with mine i would agree with it being released too soon but hdmi isn't that important to the majority of people for that to be a big deal. the ps3 hasn't been out long enough to see if there are any problems though so I wouldn't get too confident. the ps2 had problems at first.

Yeah.
But by the time the 360 was out when it launched and with how long the ps3 has been out now i heard about a lot more of the red lights issues than the ps3 has had problems.I think sony learned a tad from that.I know a bunch of gamers don't like the fact that the 360 is changin when they already got the 1st batch, but i wouldn't really mind if it was me or if it just broke down exchange it for the newer model. :D

But anyways everyone should have a Wii with their PS3 or 360 lol

You cant even compare problems with 360 and PS3. First off there there is a huge number difference between 360 and PS3. From what I can find there has been somewhere around 13 million 360s sold compaired to just over 2 million PS3s. Also the PS3 system has not been out long enough for some of the issue that creap up over time to come to life.

The whole new version thing sucks but what can you do, the drive is not needed unless you want to download movies, the fan is not a big deal. HDMI is nice but not going to make a huge difference for a large % of people. They may want it but it won't make big differnce.

Seth Gecko

I'm just comparing LAUNCH issues and they are way different!!And when i had my 360 i wouldn't of cared if a new version came out unless it was a must have and the new one isn't IMO. (But some gamers will be upset as seen on a few gaming forums already)

Do you have proof of all these systems being repaired? Were they all for the same thing? If so look into lemon laws in your state, it may fall under the lemon law.

i tried it and it worked! I've only played it about 2 hours since then but it worked fine. we'll see how long it lasts.

the guess on the net is the problem is the thermal paste M$ used was either cheap or they didn't use enough to cut cost and when you heat the inside up to this degree with surrounding it with a towel it seals whatever is not getting connected correctly or something like that. M$ won't say. all i know is they sent me 3 360's and all crapped out within 90 days except for this most recent one which died after 29 days after the 90 day warrenty was up. you'd think they would listen to logic and realize they fixed 3 that didn't work and they should keep repairing it for free since what they did did not work. i'm not happy with them at all but i can't hate my games, can i?

*If you have one under warranty get M$ to repair it for free. Mine had the 3 red rings of death and was not under warranty and I took the chance. Also, it could burn your house down or cause an explosion. :o

well I told the M$ rep that called me that I would not pay the $69 for repairs since they had "repaired" it twice and apparantly didn't fix it so i would not pay for repairs and i requested he take that to his superior and if they would fix it for no cost to call me back if not then i don't want my money to go to a companythat doesn't support their product. he said he would call me sunday so we'll see.

if they don't fix it i'll buy the new version when it comes out. yeah i know i'm giving them more money but my beef is with the "repair fee" so it makes sense to me. i can't go without my 360....plus i've already put too much money into it with the games, etc.

I just saw a big two page spread in Game Informer about the new 360. Looks like I will only have my white one for another month!

I am jazzed about finally getting HDMI, particularly with the HD DVD player. I think I would get it for that alone, although I wanted to download a movie the other day and there wasn't room on the hard drive--the 120 gig version is going to hold a lot more videos. And I love the color.

darthviper107
03-24-2007, 12:49 AM
Yeah, I'm planning on getting it.

The price isn't bad either. $479, I had heard a while back it could have been like $100 more than that, so this is actually quite good.

Although I really wish they would have added HD-DVD to the drive instead of leaving it to the external player still. It seems like HD-DVD might lose so they're trying not to force a format on people (like Sony), most likely if Blu-Ray wins they'll release an external Blu-Ray player, or a new Xbox 360 version. 'Course, by then Blu-Ray will be cheap so it won't matter much.

But I will be glad to get this updated one, especially with Mass Effect coming out soon. And then Unreal Tournament, and Force Unleashed next year. It'll be fun.

I'm sure the HDMI will be a separate port/out....everything else should be the same as it is on the back of the 360 right now. so it will be something in addition to what is already on the 360.

i am torn on the black or white.....i like my electronics to be black but my wii is next to the 360 and i like the way they look together. well...once i get my 360 repaired/replaced that is.

darthviper107

From what I've learned it will have a separate HDMI port so it still has the component output.

The black color is supposed to be a limited run and then they'll be making it in white, so if you want the new system in white then wait for a while and get it once they stop making it in black.

As I understand it, items downloaded via Xbox Live (videos, demos, etc.) can be downloaded again when you transfer your ID over to the new hard drive. As far as saved games, get this for $15 at Amazon and back up your saved game files to your PC:

Actually, from what I've heard it will come with a cable to transfer your stuff from your old xbox to the new one.

Also, if you don't like black you can probably find a nice case mod (yes they sell xbox cases) that you can put on your xbox, although it involves a little bit of technically expertise because you have to take out all of the guts and put them into a new case.

the ONE thing i don't like about the new xbox is that its not HD DVD capable, but i also understand MSs reasoning in it. i will probably get one, but only if i can find a person to buy my current box, and find an easy way to transfer all my hard drive content.

Back in Black: Elite 360 Confirmed
New HDMI-enabled system due in late April, 120GB HDD also sold separately.
by Douglass C. Perry
March 27, 2007 - In what appears to be Microsoft's standard cart-before-the-horse style of information delivery, the leading console manufacturer of this generation confirmed nearly all of the rumors preceding today's announcement of the new black, HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 Elite.

wow, this black system comes with a black controller, etc. AND it's not a limited edition, pretty sweet. the $499 ps3 version does not come with a 120 GB HD so that's not exactly comparable .

i'll get one and give my current one to my mom or sister...or put it in another room.

I think it's funny that the PS3 doesn't give you an HDMI--or even component--cable to take advantage of the HD capabilities. That made me laugh when I bought mine. They make a big deal about it being a cutting edge next gen high def powerhouse and all they give you is a yellow RCA cable.

:rotfl

As far as the hard drive, I think that $20 less for six times the space isn't a bad deal at all.

I will be perfectly happy with my 20 GB PS3 with Blu-ray AND my 120 GB 360 + HD DVD player.

Both with HDMI, finally!!!

For HDMI cables go here don't pay high prices these work just as well.

I had to purchase an HDMI cable separately. But I got the 20 GB version. Maybe the 60 GB model comes with one, but mine sure didn't. I'm glad the 360 will include one.

Too bad it doesn't have the updated processor though. That would have been nice, I'm sure it would have helped make sure less consoles crash.

This'll be cool. But I can't afford it yet, luckily though it's not limited edition so I've got all the time in the world to get the money to buy one.

Only decision now is whether or not to get a new display first or this. BTW, does anyone know if you have to have an HDCP compatible monitor to use the VGA cable? I don't think it would matter since HDCP is only for digital and would be an issue for HDMI or DVI connections, but maybe I'm wrong.

tomandshell
03-27-2007, 11:26 PM
I've also heard a rumor that they are going to try to lower the cost of the HD DVD add-on drive to around $130 so that the maxed out versions of both consoles will be comparable in price. The 360 + HD DVD player will sell for about $10 more than the 60 GB PS3, but it will include an HDMI cable and twice the hard drive space. So I believe that the 360 comes out as the better deal.

However, many will prefer the built in Blu-ray of the PS3 to the add-on for the 360. And then you have to get into the whole HD DVD vs. Blu-ray battle. So if you are in it for movies, I would go for the PS3, but if you are in it for the games I would go for the 360. At the rate that the previously Playstation exclusives game franchises are going format neutral and jumping on the 360 bandwagon, there will be very few PS3 exclusive games to look forward to.

i want one, but am also very happy with the current one i have right now. will get one eventually just to go "Back in Black" with my systems. HDMI is cool, but the Lamestation 3 ticks me off the most because sony preached and preached about HD, but after shelling out $500+ for a system you still had to go buy a cable just to see it.
~~also does anyone know if it is also component capable??? i don't quite have a tv with HDMI capabilities yet but the tv is coming soon.

Call me a sucker, but yes, I did trade up to the Elite. I've always sold older systems to my brother, but I'll be finally going HD later this year, so the re-investment in the larger hard drive, the HDMI cable, and because I am a little OCD, but the black case fits in better with my tv and stereo system. I also won't have to put up with cheeto stains on a white controller anymore. I've always been able to borrow back a system from my brother for LAN parties and the like, so having a second 360 for when Halo 3 comes out, I'll be all set.

I think if you trade in your old system at Gamestop you get $250 for the premium system, then $200 for the core system, and then you can use that money towards an Elite.

But if I get the money I'll buy an Elite system, I like black plus the HDMI, I don't care that it's not HDMI 1.3 because I don't have 7.1 surround sound anyway.

The new one is the same HD drive is seperate.

KitFisto

The new one is the same HD drive is seperate.

Well then the HD DVD drive will still not be connected by HDMI right so the quality will still be slightly less? Or is there a new HD DVD drive that has HDMI too? If you use the current HD DVD drive it connects to the 360 with USB so even if the new 360 has HDMI output it will only help the picture quality of the games and not the USB connected HD DVD drive?

darthviper107
04-30-2007, 06:54 PM
I don't think there's any quality loss through from the HD-DVD addon through the Xbox 360. The HDMI just allows you to display it digitally instead of analog. With HDMI the darks are a little bit darker and it's just a little bit sharper than the older systems. Also, the Elite isn't any quieter than the older ones, but it is expected that systems later this year will have a cooler-running graphics processor and then I think possibly the CPU.

Right now the only advantages of the Elite is the black color, HDMI, and a larger hard drive. Which saves you money compared to buying the premium system and then upgrading the 120GB hard drive separately.

So I would say, unless you already have one then you can live without the Elite, unless you really need the HDMI connection or the extra space.

Punchy
04-30-2007, 07:29 PM
Also keep in mind that any Xbox Live Arcade games or TV shows redownloaded or transferred to the Elite can only be accessed while connected to the internet. It is tied to the original console it was downloaded to for copyright reasons. If your internet is down or you play offline a lot, you won't be able to use this content.

Like Vader AL, I want to wait for a more substantial and stable upgrade to the hardware before making a switch. I've already forked over $140 due to a red ring of death on my launch system. :monkey2

darthviper107
04-30-2007, 07:34 PM
I think for the transfer you can get a free transfer cable, but you can't transfer any videos that you've bought, I think you have to download those again or whatever (I'm not accustomed to the Xbox Live Marketplace) but you can still can at least transfer your saved games.

tomandshell
04-30-2007, 07:37 PM
As far as downloaded videos, my understanding was that when you migrated your account over to the new console, you would have to download everything again (at no charge) and then they would no longer be viewable on the old console.

darthviper107
04-30-2007, 07:49 PM

Darth Loki,
I didn't trade in at all. My brother has often bought systems or electronics from me when I upgrade. I sold it to him for $250 with a couple of games(Dead Rising, Burnout) to get him started, and then used that against the elite. I won't be letting it go until the transfer cable arrives from Microsoft, as I guess it was included with the 120 HDD, but not the Elite itself. Once that arrives, I transfer my data, I will box up the old premium kit and get it my younger brother. He used to get hand me down clothes, now he gets hand me down electronics!

For $50 more you can trade out your current one for the Elite and have a black system and HDMI.

Really, the 120GB hard drive is cheating you out of money, some people opened it up and it's just a notebook hard drive worth $100.

Hey, Seaward, the Elite doesn't come with the transfer cable, from what I've heard there's some way you have to contact microsoft and they'll send you one. But they aren't included.

nash

what's retail on the Elite console?

darthviper107
04-30-2007, 10:17 PM
The Elite is $479.99 so just $80 more than the Premium, so for $80 more you get 100GB more of space, plus HDMI and a black finish. The 120GB Hard Drive is $180 itself, so if you want to upgrade either your premium system or core system it's $180 more, which for the premium system that would mean you're paying $100 more than the Elite system but without HDMI or black ($400+$180=$580). But if you trade in your premium system at Gamestop for $250 you'd just have to pay and additional $220 to get the Elite. And they'll let you transfer your stuff to. You just buy the Elite and grab the trade-in coupon, then you can take it home and transfer your files from your old system, then you bring the coupon back with your old system to trade in and they'll give you $250.

I figured this way I got the look for the system I want, as black fits in better with my electronics, I upgraded to HDMI, for the new HD set (though that is still a ways off), and I didn't spend much more than upgrading the hard drive after my brother buys my premium.

Microsoft will be mailing out the transfer cable for the cost of shipping to those of us who upgraded to the elite. They have an offer on their website.

I also figure it'll be nice to be able to LAN a couple of 360's for some Halo 3 parties this fall.

I'll never use the 20GB drive I currently have. I certainly don't need another 100GB's. I don't think the HDMI is that important to me, hell I could almost get an HD DVD player for the $250 cost difference. The only thing I'd be interested in is the newer, cooler system.

Not anymore, Sony is discontinuing the 20GB PS3 so now the cheapest PS3 is $600, and they're going to be releasing an 80GB version sometime soon which will probably be $700, so PS3 is still too expensive.

Really the only reason to get an Elite is if you need the HDMI or if you don't have an Xbox yet (as in my case), and if you've got the Core system then you've been jipped this entire time...

If you have a LARGE TV(Arround 50 inches) that supports 1080p then you WILL see a difference in any 360 game compared to component cables. BUT if you have a TV smaller than 50" you will not notice a difference between component cables and HDMI. So HDMI is only good if you have a TV that supports 1080p and it needs to be large.....

I like the Wii, since it's cheap and it looks fun to play. But since it's so very different from the 360 or PS3 I just can't stand the lower quality, the Wii versions of some games just aren't that great, and I know it won't be getting many of the games that I like, which is why I'm going with the 360.

well i pulled out Oblivion since I had some spare time today and after spending an hour getting out of the wilderness(I played for a few weeks when it first came out and thought it would be fun to "explore" and needless to say I got lost) and have been in the city and am still lost. i think the game it too big for the time i can invest in it. i'm trying to find a mission or something so i can progress in the game but am getting tired of waiting for it to load everytime i enter a building and trying to figure out where everything is in the city. anyhoo, hope everyone is having a great mother's day.

Dead Rising was one of my favorite 360 games. Yea, the few save spots did hurt me for a while, but once you play it a lot, they don't seem too bad. The game gets easier the longer you play it, but it's still tough. Just remember, that you dno't have to kill all the psychopaths to beat the game. Once you beat it, go through and try to kill 47,000 zombies in the 72 hours. THAT is fun, just get in a car and go buck wild on them. :emperor :emperor

Another question, I have final for the next two weeks, how long is the Halo 3 Beta? Will it last until the 25th?

The Halo 3 Beta runs until about June 6 (3 weeks) so you should have a week after your finals to play.

Also check your Bungie.net mailbox to see if you got into the Beta early. I checked my mailbox and was invited to play immediately!! I just downloaded it and am off to play now! :chew

DALLAS - Legions of Master Chief fans can now mark their calendars for Sept. 25. That's when "Halo 3," the newest sci-fi video game saga and the first specifically designed for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 console, is expected to arrive on store shelves.

The first-person shooter is the latest addition to the company's popular science fiction franchise in which an armor-clad human space soldier fights alien hordes in sprawling single and online multiplayer battles.

Shane Kim, corporate vice president for Microsoft Game Studios, predicted sales would surpass those of "Halo 2," which the company claims reached $125 million within the first 24 hours in 2004.

"In terms of great exclusive content this is the biggest weapon that we have," he said.

The announcement comes as a "beta," or test version, of "Halo 3" is being offered to consumers through June 6, allowing players to test out some of the game's multiplayer features ahead of schedule.

The beta only shows the game's multiplayer online aspects, however. Details of the single-player story remain a secret, Kim said.

"Halo 3" will be available in three versions: a "standard" edition for $59.99, a "limited edition" that includes features about the making of the game for $69.99, and a $129.99 "legendary edition" that is packaged with a large metal helmet that looks like the one worn by the game's protagonist, Master Chief.

That $129.99 version with the helmet might be interesting...

I started a download with the Crackdown disc this morning, got into a lobby and waited...and waited...and waited...and then left for work. It is out there, and since I am one of the crappiest Halo players around, I am looking forward to getting the snot kicked out of me when I get home from work tonight. I like playing multiplayer, but since I can't invest the time to be as crazy good as some folks, the online stuff was always a turnoff. I much preferred a little BBQ, some beers and a few friends playing on a LAN party.

Well, I got to play it, and while it is an improvement over Halo 2 it isn't really all that amazing. The graphics are a minor improvement---higher resolution models and textures, plus bump mapping. But the plant life looks really bad so I hope they improve the graphics and make it more next-gen. Game play is much better though, guns are cool and hitting stuff is better, and there's more violence (there's a sick thud when you get hit with a sniper, and blood goes everywhere). So I do have high hopes for it.

But, I'd still prefer playing on PC, which is lucky that Halo 2 will be out next week for PC, and I'll be able to use the mouse and keyboard which is much better. That's one problem with getting an XBox that I have, the gamepad, I got absolutely killed because I'm so used to using PC. So I'll have to practice.

i knew the graphics weren't gonna be a major leap or anything, but im certain that because its a beta the graphics should improve a little before the final release. even if they are aren't the groundbreaking visuals everyone hopes it to be i at least hope it can match GOW which to me are the best graphics on a system today.

If you are a fan of first person shooters I recomend "The Call of Juarez". There are a few annoying flaws with the game but overall it is a pretty cool game. In my opinion, the single player is one of the best for the 360 so far... and the multiplayer has potential to be awesome if they patch the few existing problems...

My brother already has one, but I'm just waiting for some money. And it is much better. If you don't have an Elite yet or aren't planning on getting the 120GB hard drive you are going to miss out on stuff in the future. With all the demos available and videos you can fill up 20GB pretty quickly, and since they are going to add the TV DVR feature sometime that'll be used even more. And if you want to wait until later this year they are supposedly going to have cooler processors and/or GPU's which will add to the reliability.

And the HDMI is the best output available so that's a big plus.

here's a hint i got from my friend at EB. there won't be any elites shipping until the first of the month. and if you get one make sure you get an extended warranty through MICROSOFT. he told me that because the black unit is a limited run they plan on making the Elites white sometime in the future so if you need to have it fixed for any reason and possibly need a new system, EB will only replace it with a white system. MS will fix it and return the black system that you sent them.

Um, he's lying. He's just trying to get people to buy the extended warranty. Microsoft already extended the warranty recently on the Xbox system, and the Elite is not in any way limited edition. If EB replaces it with a white system they will get in a whole heck of a lot of trouble. And Elites have been shipping since the beginning of May.

People working at EB or Gamestop are often forced to make up lies to get people to buy warranties or preorders, so he probably isn't trying to do that on purpose though.

Well, I received Transformers for the 360 yesterday from Gamefly ... and sent it back this morning. The graphics are pretty, but the game play was very shallow. I also felt they messed up the "destroy anything" aspect of the game. It seemed like buildings and vehicles would crumble/explode when you just happened to nudge them. How did they manage to screw that up? The Hulk Ultimate Destruction does that so much better. So, while it's not the worst game ever, it did feel rather "meh". And with all the great games out right now, I just don't have the time for mediocre games.

Great games out worth playing:

1.) The Darkness PS3/360
2.) Harry Potter and OfP - Wii version wiimote wand is very nice and outdoes the slightly better graphics of the other systems.
3.) Resident Evil 4 Wii - never could get myself to finish the game on GC or PS2 ... now that I have bought it for the THIRD time, I will finish one way or the other LOL.
4.) Call of Juarez 360 - a fun shooter with a western motiff - finally a great FPS that doesn't take place during WWII :rotfl
5.) Scarface Wii - didn't even realize that this was in my Gamefly queue til it showed up. Very fun Grand Theft style game and the Wii controls for shooting are great.
6.) Grimgrimoire PS2 - imagine Harry Potter combined with Groundhog Day ... I know that sounds like a fever dream, but it's an apt description of this Japanese RPG. Very fun if you can still stomach last gen 2-D graphics.
7.) Dirt 360 - Not a huge fan of racing games, but the graphics in this one outdo every other racing game I have every played.

Don't waste you time with Transformers the Game, try one of those instead. It turned out to be the standard movie tie-in game.

I just played Order of the Phoenix for the PC and it was horrible. Maybe it was just for the PC, but I actually just deleted it after about an hour of play because it was unplayable controls.

Very fun Grand Theft style game and the Wii controls for shooting are great.

thanks for the heads-up. RE4 is one the best games of all time. had it for the GC, don't think i'll pick up the Wii version since i played through the GC version like 4 times. good to hear about Juarez too. it received o.k. ratings so i was wondering but i'm starving for a FPS...probably will wait till it's $40 though. Will probably pick up The Darkness tomorrow.

I will warn you about Juarez ... the game is broken up between 2 characters - an older gunslinger - classic "kill everything that moves" with Bible bullet-time (I kid you not) gameplay and a younger kid who has to use Metal Gear style stealth. The stealth part is what most critics complain about, but I actually liked most of his missions. And it's only the 3rd Western shooter I can remember (Outlaws by LucasArts for the PC back in the mid-90s and Gun for the PC/360 last year are the only ones I remember).

I still buy the "great" games, but I would consider a Gamefly subscription AL if you really are into gaming. It's the best way to try out those average rated games without worrying about wasting 50 to 60 bucks a pop. Heck, without Gamefly, I probably would have been so jazzed after seeing Transformers next week, I would have run out and wasted 66 bucks on the game. For 22 bucks a month, you get 2 games out at a time, and as long as you play them (I tend to send them back every week so that's about 8 games a month), the value is great. They have also added more shipping centers so the wait isn't all that long now.

Well, the game was designed for consoles first and foremost - and I have never played a PC-conversion of a console game that actually felt intuitive on the PC. The Wii-wand, as I like to call it, really makes the game for me on the Wii.

I am finally happy to have a Wii :lol hadn't even turned it on since early March, but BOOM! suddenly 4 games worth playing in a 2 week span.

I played the Harry Potter game on PC, it was OK, looks pretty good but they don't really allow you to change the controls and it's very awkward to try and do gestures for the magic just with a mouse (it'd be interesting to use a Wacom tablet for that though...).

Transformers is somewhat annoying. But I need to get some good games for Xbox, like Gears of War. I might have enough money but I'm not sure.

back from the dead!!! here's some great news for current 360 owners. it seems that you don't have to buy an elite to get 1080p after all. the brains at MS have created a cable for the two white consoles. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13790/XCM-Brings-1080p-HDMI-to-Standard-Xbox-360/

oh well, i just spent $40 to buy an elite a short while ago. i knew it was possible, but nobody wanted to believe me. now we just have to wait and see how great it will actually work.

Great news on the HDMI cable. It's a good thing I didn't trade my white console in for an Elite.

well im not sure how great its gonna work because i believe it just converts it and its not true 1080p. and another thing would be the price, i read in another forum that other consumer HDMI converters cost $200-300?? (not sure about the last part, but thats what a couple people insisted) so if you want the full experience it might suit you better to just trade in and upgrade for the HDMI port on the system.

I don't see why they couldn't just make a cable that outputs HDMI with full 1080p. It already can do that with the VGA cable from the same port so it's just a matter of configuring it to do the same with an HDMI cable. And that'll be good for me since that's one thing I wanted in the first place, but I wasn't able to find an Elite anywhere so I settled for the Premium system (although come to think of it I could have just bought the core package and the 120GB hard drive and it would have cost the same).

I highly doubt a company would waste the time to design and manufacture this cable if it was going to cost that much. They know we would just go out and buy a new Elite system for that kind of cash. My best guess is this cable will cost in the 50 to 70 range - about what the high end component cables go for. I promise this ... as much as I want 1080P from my 360, there is still no way I would spend 100 or over on a friggin' cable.

i agree and thats why i just went with the Elite. it comes with HDMI and component cables. and with the VGA cable i already have i have all my bases covered for connections.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and happened to look at the Xbox 360 cables. On the back of the package, the VGA Cable specs listed the highest resolution at 720p while the component cables listed 1080i.

When you use the VGA cable it will change the options on the Xbox to where you'll have the different resolutions of the display (mine's 1280x960) which if you have a large screen display that's capable of 1920x1080 you can put it on that resolution, and since VGA can only output progressive video everything you get will be progressive.

I don't think they bothered to update the packaging on the VGA cable after they made the 360 capable of 1080p. But as Viper said, 1920x1080 is definitely one of the options when you use the VGA cable with an updated 360. That's how mine is set up for now, as I continue the long slow wait for an Elite.

They say the component can do 1080i or 1080p. So whyt would they need to convert anything. They can output 1080p so all they need is to make a HDMI cable. Just curious how is teh HDMI set up on the elite? Is it a serperate port or a cable.

The part abour 1080i or 1080p is directly from the xbox website. It seems that it changed in the update back last Nov.

But it would be easy to do 1080P through the component - component is capable of doing 1080P. It is disabled through software by the 360 do to the whining and *****ing of the movie industry over pirating. Supposedly, HDMI is harder to crack, so they don't want the HD quality materials capable of being shown through component. So, I highly doubt it would be that hard or expensive to design some kind of pass-through cable to HDMI.

However, if you think about it, this whole situation is really moot at this point in time. 90% of the games out there are not designed to be displayed in 1080P - because the resolution was not available at the time they were designed. Other than the HD-DVD player - which is a completely separate unit, there is not much need for 1080P right now.

HDMI is a digital signal so that also means it has HDCP which the industry would like better.

If you don't know what HDCP is, it's a system sort of like DRM where it only allows you to display on HDCP compatible displays. For instance, if you have the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive hooked up to your computer and you don't have a graphics card and monitor that are both HDCP compatible then it will display the movie on your computer at a lower resolution. I don't really know how it's supposed to help to have that system, but it's just a way to keep control of hardware.

Yes. And it's a way to keep companies in check because they'll have to have that technology put into their products or people won't be able to use them. I guess it's a fight against ripoff products, but I don't really see that as an overwhelming issue.

If this ends up being true (which according to Microsoft PR, it isn't), then this is great news. I'm going to be in the market for a 360 this fall, and every little bit of savings helps. :)
