M i think he also has that underjacketin the second movie.
But i don't recall if it was leather.
I think in the movie it's in nylon or something.

I think the likeness is off. He looks too young or something.... HT will most likely touch it up though.

IMO it depends on the pic. Certain pics looks like a dead ringer for Snipes in other shots I think resembles Howard (IM).

It looks decent enough to consider a purchase. I am not a huge Blade fan but if priced fairly, I will consider buying. Wolverine (when released) will need a fellow Marvel colleague on his shelf.

Looks incredible. The skin tone/texture is amazing. I'll be getting this probably...

I can't tell what it is though, either his head looks too big or his shoulders look too thin. Or maybe both. Gotta love a challenge to fix though lol

To me none of the pics look like a dead ringer except this one...his face structure just looks off. I know HT will make tweaks though...look how Marcus Wright turned out. But at the moment he looks off to me.

Agree about the headsculpt, my first thought honestly was "damn, they didn't get Snipes' likeness?". The sculpt and paint is great though, very realistic, but I hardly see Snipes in there.
And while the outfit looks great, I'm still disappointed they didn't make a Blade I version, I much prefer that outfit. While the difference might not be important to most, I much prefer the vest from Blade I, and I prefer his coat to be completely black, I just don't like the red liner, doesn't fit to the character IMO.
Depending on the price and if they tweak the sculpt, I may still get it, it is Blade afterall.

Here's how he should look IMO: :D

I was took by surprise a little when I saw this in the DC section thought it was a joke.

The head sculpt looks like Wesley Snipes but maybe a young Wesley Snipes from Michael Jackson's Bad video.

I'm glad I didn't get the Medicom one now I've been looking for a good Blade figure for a while now.

I am not a huge Blade fan therefore, I may not be the best judge of the face sculpt. However, I can see a Snipes likeness but in certain angles / pictures it resembles Terrance Howard from Ironman (IMO).

While I agree about the likeness (which is odd considering they used a Snipes look alike for one of their military figures that was a dead ringer), I am such a Blade fan that I am all over this. Just the sheer amount of gear he comes with makes it worth it! I hope they do other characters and even another Blade sporting his part one look too. SOOOO happy Hot Toys is doing this one!!:banana

My top pick was spidey, and I'd prolly be more excited if they did the hulk, compared to blade. But nevertheless, this is a very well made fig; especially the afro and the neck tattoo.

LipSmack
10-30-2009, 08:49 AM

10-30-2009, 08:54 AM
The headsculpt looks like an amalgam of Snipes and Terrence Howard. The skin being a bit too light I think contributes to the Howard likeness. Beautiful figure otherwise.

10-30-2009, 09:29 AM
This is an awesome looking figure! Another one out the park for HTs or atleast a long triple!

The sculpt looks like a younger Snipes. The head is too full and the jaw line isn't elongated enough. I agree that the complextion, while outstanding...best African-American representation I've seen:google, is too light for Snipes. All that aside, the execution is just outstanding. They captured the texture of the hair and the fade like no other...its amazing!

I'll be pre-ordering this:joy

Darkseed
10-30-2009, 09:38 AM
Yeah, he doesn't look like Snipes too much without the shades.

I agree. The sculpt (various photo's) looks great while other's look ok. The complexion (paint apps) looks great even though the shade may not be 100% accurate.

The more I look at the pictures the more I am inclined to purchase. The Marvel announcement is my grail and XMO: Wolverine will need a companion.

Awesome news, I'll be getting this Blade figure, I love Blade I and II, III was more of let down and I thought hurt the frachise of the movies but oh well what are yah gonna do.

The other thread also brought up some other figures they could do for the line but I was quite surprised that no one really talk too much about Frost, the very first villain from the Blade movies... I think the would make a kick a$$ HT figure! :rock

http://scifipulse.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/stephen_dorff_deacon_frost_blade_400x300.jpg

As for Nomak I would prefer him as a PF, just the detail and switch o head would make this PF phenomenal.

http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/4700000/Nomak-blade-4782172-430-242.jpg

The ending fight scene with Blade vs Nomak is EPIC and definitely the best highlight real from the Blade series IMO :lecture

tylerdurden
10-30-2009, 09:49 AM
the likeness is definitely not spot-on... yet. actually i don't think it should be too hard for ht to nail it after some minor tweaks. it's certainly better than their first attempt at heath ledger (joker) and robert downey jr (tony stark). at least you can see snipes in the headsculpt fairly easily.

but what's really impressive is the paint apps for the skin and the tattoos. looks pretty real, great job there. and looks like someone's finally nailed sunglasses in 1/6 scale that actually fits on the head without looking awkward. this one genuinely looks good!

The likeness is better with the sunglasses on. It's the eyes that really hurt the portrait.

Everything below the neck looks great though. I'm not a Blade fan, but dammit, it's really hard to resist buying a great figure. But I must.

What surprises me most is how fast HT got out these specs and official photos after the website/newsletter teaser came out.

They could do a interchangeable jaw a la DX Batman or Predator.

dedguy

I'm not sure the interchangeable jaw would work on a smooth human face. It works for the predator because of the folds in the face and on Batman because of the line around the mask.

Can't wait to see Spider-man! This is a defnite purchase for me. I really hope Hot Toys doesn't unload all of Marvel on us at once this is going to cost a fortune.

The inevitable delays will help.

Haha I was thinking the same thing! Spider-man should be coming up, a V2 Wolverine with his x-men uniform. And also a Hulk figure with using a modified (steroids) Hellboy 2 green body!:D:D

My only question is this? Where the hell is Hot Toys' Rorshach at?

I've never been a big Blade fan. I mean the movies were OK, and the outfit of and weapons were cool. But this figure is freaking awesome! Some of those pics could pass as photos of Wesley Snipes. The shot of the tattoo in the back is really amazing to me for some reason. This is by far the most realistic HT figure I've ever seen. I'm definately getting one to add to the Marvel Movie shelf :D

Now bring on Spidey!

excellent excellent, love blade, especially his designs in Blade II.:banana
love the tour jacket and the twin pistols....aaahh.:angelsmil

Yeah, head sculpt needs work, it's not there yet. far too much terrance howard. I always thought snipes had a bit more of a lazy eye thing going on.
hair looks amazing...

he does look a little slim, but his jacket and coat do give him the necessary bulk i think, he might look too bulky if they try anything. who knows.

definitely, definitely. bought.

It's a mix of I and II. The hairline + glasses + pants (II he mostly wears canvas pants, not leather) are from the first movie. Everything else is from II. Again, personally I think it looks perfect as is. HT did a helluva job.

LordAzrael
10-30-2009, 06:24 PM
I think that the pants are Blade 1 version rather than Blade II - I believe he only had leather pants in the first movie.

It's a f* great figure so far!
I very love first 2 movie and realy happy that HT makes THIS :)
However sculpt have a great Blade nature, but it's more like Terrance Howard in the end... Besides head itself is too big and out of proportion + looks like hi stand on a simple TTbody <__<

My last word:
1) correct shape of the skull
2) reduce head
3) give to face more features of actor
4) put on the muscular body!
If all of this will be made... I'm begin worship to HT as gods ^^

dedguy
10-30-2009, 07:53 PM
Yeah it's all the eyes that are wrong. I know that's what I have the most issue with when drawing likenesses. Sure the face looks like a younger Snipes than in Blade II but the eyes are what's really throwing it off, that and the hair I think.

I think the big problem is less the size of the eyes than Snipes has heavy eyelids and the figure does not.

This collectible stands approximately 30cm tall and features more than 32 points of articulation. Dressed in the Daywalker’s movie-accurate costume of an overcoat, black jacket, vest, shirt, pants and boots. And the accessories and weapons include:

Doesn't sound like a muscle body to me.

Redone. Added more area to the eyelids.

Keep in mind, he has a determined brow so less of the eyelid area will be exposed. Look at this pic:

some points:

- eyelids need to be lowered more. snipes has sleepy eyes.

- hair line. obviously not from blade 2.

- toy pants looks leathery. movie pants does not.

- body looks too skinny. this is a nagging problem for me because it seems so easy to fix, yet it happens again and again. cant they build a more fitting TT body?

- likeness is a bit off yeah, but terrence howard??? the only thing this figure shares with howard is that they both have 2 eyes, 2 nostrils and dark complexion. the likeness is 90% snipes and 0.1% howard.

About time for this figure although I'm not in love with the head sculpt. It's like they almost have the license for Wesley's likeness but fell short in negotiations. Pants are Blade 1 accurate but not Blade II. Never cared for the Blade II vest but it looks beautiful. The various accessories and multiple sets of hands are just simply stellar. These things alone make their new Wolverine seem like a poor cousin.

Hopefully we will get a Blade 1 version character with a muscle body, his spike launching shotgun, original ingram mac pistol, and hopefully an alternate "fang face" headsculpt. That or a Blade II version of Whistler with the original movie vest. His original uzi in a wooden display box would make an neat exclusive extra.

Sometimes you have to make some concessions as far as the body types are concerned. Having a figure with overly bulky arms can make getting a trenchcoat or any coat fit and look correct. Personally I think the figure looks find with his trenchcoat or with the jacket. I think the most iconic look from Blade II would have to be when Wesley was dual wielding the HK's in the sewer against the reapers so that is how I would mostly likely display the figure. If we were talking Blade 1 then the blood bath scene from the movie opening stands out in my mind so I would display that figure with his trenchcoat. Neither one of these would require a muscle body figue to look correct. Now if I wanted to do the la magra blood god fight version of Blade from the end of the first movie then you would deffinitely need a muscle body character. I think Wesley was built the largest in the first movie but depending on the scene it wasn't overly obvious.

Hoping so :D I plan to order from them or Toy Anxiety.

Overall, I like it. I think the likeness is fair, but closer to Snipes in Blade 1 than in 2 (at least, he looked more toned in Blade 2 IMHO).

I don't think so at all, considering Blade wore Oakley 4's in Blade II, and HT sculpted Oakley glasses on previous figures, they got the look correct with the silver accents and all.

DX is Hot Toys' newest line of figures. What they do is take figures they have done in the past, and redo them in a new, way better DX version. They did it with the Joker and the Dark Knight. In some ways it's great because we get awesome versions of the figures we love, and in some ways it sucks big time because it's kind of a "screw you" to all those fans who picked up the initial version.

ah, i understand -- thanks, guys. i'd say it's very much how any entertainment industry justifies churning out stuff that has been released previously.

good example would be a record -- i own the original pressings of marvin gaye's "what's going on" and curtis mayfield's "super fly" -- the companies have reissued so-called deluxe versions with additional tracks and alternate takes and bla bla bla, which is both great and ^^^^ty for the very same reasons you posted.

funny thing is, just yesterday i bought the complete dvd box on ebay for $ 123.00, including the action figure ... and then i found the link to this announced release. definite purchase for me -- but then, i'm not a real action figure collector, i stick to vinyl records as my main area of burning money. :D

blade & enter the dragon, these would be the movies that i look for ... the enterbay bruce lee figures, albeit wonderful, are way out of my price range for the time being. this one by hot toys will make a beautiful addition on the other hand. would be great if they did an n'bushe wright figure, haha.

LOVED Blade 2, loved the Blood Pack, loved Reinhardt (ofcourse) and loved Nomak. My favorite of the 3 when it comes to repeat viewings.

But something about Blade 1 makes it still my favorite of first time viewings. I still remember how awesome it was seeing in the theatre, seeing the blood rain in the club, Blade's car, Whistler, Stephen Dorf, the music, the badass weapons... it was all new and completely badass. Doesn't hold as well to repeat viewings as the second one though - probably because it was much darker and less fun than Part 2.

Apart from the opening scene, Part 3 was absolute garbage, and doesn't exist in my mind.

Its all about HT doing a balls to the wall movie version of Blade. If HT is going to throw down the gauntlet by acquiring this license then the fans should politely but strongly insist on HT doing justice to
Snipes' likeness. Sorry HT but we now know what your capable of so youre a victim of your own success.:D

While the two picts below arent the same angle: Its evident work still needs to be done. The sculpt needs work on the hairline, cheeks, eyelids and brow.
Wesley has more upper lid showing. Blade is pretty stoic in the movies for the most part so they may even want to forget the frown altogether.

So far the majority of people weighing in here and on the OSW board are saying its needing some more work. The poster who mentioned Gooding Jr was right as well..
Do I see some Snipes?
Yes,as well as two other other actors. :dunno
I want Snipes with no ambiguities, and for almost $200 I should get him the first time

that was actually what happened with "blade ii" in my case -- i was on family visit in the states and even talked my cousin and his wife into going to the cinema together with me to watch the movie, because i had seen posters at bus stops in new york advertising the movie and i was: " wow, great -- i need to see this right now!"

the opening scene was ace, and then it somehow went downhill from there -- i'm just speaking for myself, but it was too generic: the special forces unit is an overplayed element and the group could have consisted of "humans," it wouldn't have made a difference. not to mention the wwf-style showdown ... the characters were great, on the other hand -- wasted potential to me. i probably like the third installment better than the second since my expectations were lower (i used to be a huge snipes fan in the early 2000s). first part is still the best (and udo kier rocks!)

then again, i hate "aliens" for the same reasons and believe it should be banned, with "alien³" being the actual sequel, so what do i know.

The DX jabs are seriously old. C'mon, it's been a YEAR with no new announcements of any further DX figures aside from Batman and the Joker. I really do not think HT is going to make a habit of this.

The head. Okay. Why don't they name these first teasers protoattempts? It has that same offness that their Wolverine suffers from. They didn't change much on that one, that I could see, so I don't suppose this one will change that drastically. So surprise us Hot Toys. I can take it. Even just the widows peak, because the sunglasses can hide most of the rest.

Wouldn't mind seeing that Hot Toys Snipes head they did for one of their military figures, just to compare it to, if anyone happens to have a pic of it.

I think they ought to cancel this project and just give us one DX version, with a second screaming headsculpt.

http://i37.tinypic.com/24ez62x.jpg

Chuck in his shotgun, a second set of interchangeable muscular arms with applicable tattoos, and a second pair of pants and alternative vest.

Yeah, I'd rather one DX figure and pay a bit more, than have a choice of more versions with improved head sculpts. Make the box fold out into a diorama, and give him glowering eyeballs, and tattooed shoulders, and how about metal weapons, and does he have any tattoo's anywhere else, and while you're at it...how about a second pair of sunglasses, at least. Definitely, put wire in the coat.

And how about letting us know your intentions for the line? Will we get any other characters?

I just want one definitive Blade, and I reckon we just got it.

I totally agree, the DX whining crap is getting REAL old. To be fair there has been one other DX announced, which is the Ironman MKIII... which is ALSO a very new super high profile license they sold the hell out of. I can also see Rambo and Rocky DXs down the line for the same reasons but it looks like it's going to be a fairly rare thing that only happens with the licenses that got serious legs.

I really don't think Blade which hasn't seen a new film in five years and has never had much merchandising is one of them. Hell I could be wrong, I just want a Blade I figure and/or Nomak.

And you know they're not going to pass up Spider-man. Which means any time Hot Toys puts out a poll they're saying "Hey guys! This is what we're working on, its already in the pipeline, count on it"

So when everyone was freaking out about who won the Terminator poll, you can bet its all in the works
