Totally agree Mooncat and I just dont have a big enough piece of plasticard at the moment but it is on my list that is for sure. The lighting is the hardest thing at the mo. As soon as I get the time I really want to get stuck into it. :)

Been waiting for your pics on this - of course outstanding work as always!

Pop downyour local art shop. I've picked up some highly reflective black A1 card sheets for like £3 a shot! Look great as Death Star flooring.

If we lived closer you could borrow my smoke machine, but I'll dig out the company details for you, as it only cost £25 and is a hell of a lotof funon the kitchen table! (wives love it).

Maybe I'll bottle a blast and post it LOL!

Really great work, and the photos look fantastic! One question: Did you cut every single one of the oval lights out by hand with an exacto knife? I've always wanted to do exactly that, but the thought of all that knife work turns me off big time!

Hopefully get some shinny flooring this week :)

In answer to the question about the ovals light panel thingys, I used a router, it took chuffin ages and some a a bit rough as you can see if you look really hard. But I over exposed the lights and used a narrow depth of field when I shot some of the pics to hide the rough edges.

Hallways looking very nice BTW. I see what you mean about still getting a few rough edges with the router. It's driving me nuts. I've tried hand cutting, drilling, using templates. I've tried foamex board, card & Hardboard. They all end up in the bin!
Gonna give it one more try with wood - I figure I can drill neat precise circles either end with my pillar drill, then jigsaw the straight edges - gonna take ages and raise my bloodpressure, but I will have a Death Star Corridor one day!

MDF 3mm, thats what I should have used. Double it up and make sure that u have a good blade. I have learnt from my mistakes!! LOL.

Or plasticard, but I have no idea how that will take to being routered!

I've been using the dremel for the rounded portions.

I'm not sure what you have over there, but here Walmart carries 'for sale' signs pretty cheap. Pretty much the same as styrene. If you use the back and hit it with a black high gloss spray paint it will give you the shiny floor effect.

The lighting in the ovals was originally done with natural lighting infront of a window, then I used a couple of side lights then finally I used a flash which is much easier, but I need to get my hands on another one really as I am having to use card to reflect light around!! Nightmare. :) The lights above the door and were done in a similar way and the door control panel is little 9 volt train lights.

I got a Hasbro Cape for Palpatine...

So he is greeted by Vader and then escorted to the bridge.... only to stop to Lecture a Commander on the urgency of the construction of the Death Star.

Umm... so do stupid minds... :lol

It's actually a chemical reaction combined with a flaw in the E-11 blaster carried by stormtroopers, see: there are chemicals present in all non-cloned humanoids that are given off in perspiration. Stormtroopers get extremely nervous due to extreme consequences for messing things up (they heard what Vader did to Admiral Ozzel), and thus they perspire almost all the time. The chemicals in their perspiration soak through the stormtroopers' gloves and seeps into the tibanna gas chamber of their E-11 blasters, where it reacts with the tibanna gas and causes several variables to be created within the firing of charged tibanna gas particles that are commonly known as "blaster bolts". There are so many new variables in firing speed, direction, and power that the same shot can almost never be made twice in the presence of the perspiration chemicals, thus greatly reducing the accuracy of the blaster to the point where it is almost useless.

In blasters other than the E-11, there is no problem, because the tibanna gas chamber is more tightly sealed so the chemical cannot enter the chamber and cause reactions.

Of course, the Empire was too cheap to buy any other type of blaster for the stormtroopers than the E-11. If the E-11 had been more airtight, or the troopers less sweaty, the war would have easily been won by the Empire (Han and Luke would have been fried in their first encounter with stormtroopers, thus Luke would never live to blow up the Death Star, and it would probably blow up every Rebel-Alliance-affiliated planet in the galazy, crushing the rebellion permanently and extending the Empire's existence indefinitely).

sorry I gave up on them and closed photoshop without saving em...

Your pics are prolly some of the only 1/6 pics I have seen where photoshop just isn't needed to make the scene look real. Nice job!

I went back and looked at your pics, and the only thing that was a give-away that it wasn't from the movie was the light up wall panels... so I fixed that in about 5 secs... Here it is....

Normally I would of back lit the corridor but it was all a bit rushed when i did it.

maybe some laser fire would be good and some blast marks and smoke.... getting carried away arn't I.

I do have an idea that I will PM you about.. a little combined project....... :)

Ok so I tested out a few blaster effects on my fav pic of the bunch...

I figured that since I was having a hard time positioning the blaster bolt in front of the stormtrooper's face, and he couldn't be hit with one (you don't just stand there holding your blaster half hunched over when a charged tibanna gas plasma bolt is hitting you in the face from a few feet away :lol), and considering the accuracy of the E-11 blasters, I spared that stormie and let him off with a blaster shot passing by a few inches away from his face. Also, Han has a blaster bolt from a stormie off screen flying past his ear...

... and a combined project sounds interesting :D

I now have all your pics set up in PS so that I can treat each picture like it's a light. I can turn each light on or off individually, or turn the lights up or down, so I should be able to match the movie lighting pretty well...

No you didn't, it was just from the other side, and I think Vader looks down at a point when he's sorta bowing and then he looks up after that... It's absolutely fine IMO...

Back main panel is acrylic, like styrene and then the other panels are just plasicard.

I used a laser cutter to cut out the oval bits. Such an amazing tool. they have one at work, but I had to teach myself to use it.

The first ones I did were made from hardboard and I used a router. Took forever!

LOL there is plenty!! I am rubbish at electrics. Thank the maker for fuses I say LOL. I am very lucky, years ago a mentor was gasing away to me and got me thinking about self belief and never to be hampered by lack of confidence in ones own abilities...
