So far so good, the proportions on the body look great, just like he looked on screen. I really hope it gets a golden chrome-like finnish with weathering added.

How is this going to be considered a PF without clothing? Is it going to be gold plated or something?

If they add wires for his waist, I think it could qualify as mixed media.

And yes, he looks pretty good so far, but he MUST be chromed! I'm interested to see if they correct the too-large eyes on the 1:1 version.

It looks like they're sculpting it as armor. So if a black jumpsuit is used underneath the armor to cover up the base body (like Anthony wore), that'd also add to the mixed media.

Valfar
07-24-2009, 07:25 PM
I am not too crazy about say a mic/droid caller being the exclusive for this but, i think they should just give him a magnetic restraining bolt as the exclusive.

How is this going to be considered a PF without clothing? Is it going to be gold plated or something?

Grievous (regular version) didn't have clothing. Mixed media doesn't mean that they have to use cloth, just a variety of materials to best represent the original character. If C-3PO has elements of ploystone, metal, wire and plastic, then he'll be mixed media.

Light up eyes should be on all of them. The only time 3PO's eyes were dark was when he was shut off.

tomandshell

OK, I tend to agree. Maybe the exclusive can be a magnetic restraining bolt accessory.

Agent0028
07-24-2009, 08:25 PM
I like the restraining bolt. Although I also like the idea of the exclusive being a dirty Tattooine version.

And I think a great exclusive for R2 would be a dirty Dagobah version to go with the Luke and Yoda.

tomandshell
07-24-2009, 08:27 PM
I've thought about that before, and the only thing about dirty exclusives would be that you have to permanently choose one version or the other.

Please, I want to know when will we see progress about Premium Format C-3PO, Jedi Luke, and Stormtrooper?

In the time since this question was submitted, you’ve seen the full monty on Jedi Luke. Sculpture development on C-3PO is done, and we’re working on R2-D2 in earnest. In the meantime, we’re working with our factories to determine the best production methods for both characters and refining our attack plan. We hope to reveal both droids sometime mid-2010, but we may choose to wait a tad bit longer and show full production pieces rather than prototypes. The Stormtrooper development is in the sculpture stage. We’re assembling a full set of armor, and next the pose and other creative decisions will be made (base design, etc)

Very, very true. 3PO is looking INCREDIBLE...and I'm glad to hear that they are looking to reveal BOTH droids, instead of 1, followed by the other a year or so later.

These will REALLY be a centerpiece in ANY STAR WARS collection.

I collect most of the 1/6 figures from the OT as well, but I'm not sure I have as much interest in getting the droids in 1/6, when they will look SO great together in 1/4!

With both droids and a Stormtrooper coming after Jedi Luke, it's literally been a few years since I've been this excited about the line. It's always been my favorite, but they've been favoring PT/EU characters and so there hasn't been much to grab my interest. I'm glad they're getting back around to classic characters that I'll actually purchase.

That's what I mean when I said it would piss me off. I have the life size figure, and it's got problems, include an inaccurate head. It would be kind of annoying to have them release a perfect life-size bust of him for a fraction of what I paid for the life-size figure. But of course it would be good for most people.

Agent0028
07-09-2010, 06:32 PM
Man that sucks the head is inaccurate, that really is one of those things I would expect perfection for that price. What is wrong with it?

icruise
07-09-2010, 06:52 PM
Oh, the eyes are wrong (they have a thick border around them that wasn't present on the original prop, which makes them look too big), and the number of indentations on his "halo" around the head is wrong. Admittedly, I knew about that before I bought it, but the more I think about it the more it bothers me. And some other issues related to quality control have partially soured me on it. It's still cool, but I shouldn't have to deal with things like this at that price point.

Agent0028

We're still making progress on the development of the PF, and lots and lots of engineering and logistical elements left to solve for both Goldenrod and his domestic partner. Epan, this also answers your question"...
So didn't confirm the sneak pic of yesterday was 3PO neither said that it was a Legendary Scale Bust, 1:1 Bust or 12" figure... I assumed it could be the 1:1 bust as the 12" figure has been announced by Medicom not so much time ago so a 12" Sideshow version of 3PO should happen later... and I was kinda sure it was the lifesize bust as The next legendary scale bust to come is Obi-Wan... and others presented last year in the Legendary scale busts future programs at San Diego Comic Con... and 3PO wasn't in that list...

I bet seperate. With SSC running the Throned Emperor PF, I can't see them running another heavy PF right away. I think the lighting features and moveable parts will help bulk-up the price making these guys close to the usual $299. If they lacked any special features, they'd be more like statues (neither has clothing) and I would think closer to $250 - especially R2.

Since C-3PO is currently in development as a Premium Format, are you planning to release him by himself or will you wait until R2-D2 is finished to release them together? I can’t imagine getting one without the other! -AND- Will C-3PO and R2-D2 be sold separately or will they be one large Premium Format?

C-3PO and R2-D2 will be sold together as a deluxe Premium Format offering, per current planning. The standard “subject to change” disclaimer applies here.

I'm sure he probably will be chromed and also have other things like wires and the like, which could be considered "mixed media." In the end, though, he's a PF because they say he is, and because he's in the same scale as all of the other PFs.

I'm hoping they prove me wrong, but I think the recession did shift their plans. It seems like they're dividing the camp into ultra high-end and affordable, much like the economy is becoming.

PF sales have been sluggish for some time, so it makes sense this line would slow down, but with the increase in quality on 1/6 and now this Legendary line, it has me worried.

Like I said, though, I'm hoping they're just holding back at this point and we'll see some more PFs in the coming months.

rnbuda
07-20-2011, 05:40 PM
I think the reason why some of the sales are sluggish is because of the actual character choices. Highly in demand characters like Captain America, Rogue, etc sell out very quickly!

This isn't me complaining or being a jerk, I really do want to know the answer. How are they able to come out with these never-before-heard-of pieces (Obi/Maul LSF, Ventress bust bronze Maul) and not yet have the R2 and 3PO PF available for pre-order or at the very least on display?

The Legendary line was a surprise (I believe), but the others you mentioned were known to be in the works.

When you have a sec, take a look at the link I provided earlier. It's outdated, but if you follow the ending pages in that thread it contains most of the newer info in it.

I have never really expected a Chewbacca in this line, but the droids are the last essential characters for me that are still unreleased. I would be extremely disappointed if they never release them. I guess they are just taking a back seat at SDCC this year. The big news is HT partnership and Legendary figures. That's fine--I'll be patient.

They release things without ever mentioning them all the time.

I think the reason why some of the sales are sluggish is because of the actual character choices. Highly in demand characters like Captain America, Rogue, etc sell out very quickly!

Sideshow should focus on the main characters and then release 1-3 odd balls during the year like the newest Maul PF...

Maybe, but they have a Captain America, Indy, Mola Ram, Jedi Luke and Sabretooth all in-stock. This doesn't even count the pre-orders not closed yet.

I'm thinking the nuclear-powered characters- like chewie PF with Fur- will be released at celebration next year.

Sideshow had the C-3PO prototype displayed at the Sideshow dinner. It was unpainted, but has articulation and light-up eyes.

They had a slide presentation that showed R2-D2. Collectors should be very happy with these two. :rock

How is this going to be considered a PF without clothing? Is it going to be gold plated or something?

Maybe the consider real cables instead of sculpted cables :wink1:

He had a base ? Had wires and cables in the body ( real or sculpt )?

It was a round base, but don't remember much about it. It also had the wires sculpted.

I would hope soon. Almost every sneak peek in the production video has been up for pre order at this point. I would put my money on an early 2012 pre order.

I'm getting the 1:1 bust anyways. My GF would kill me, literally, decapitate me, were I to get the PF as well.
How I ever convinced her that a 1:1 shiny gold bust would be a good idea, I'm baffled...

Pretty sure they are gonna be offered as a set. I recall most fans saying they wanted it this way to get a matching base and not have to wait to get the other droid to go with the former.

It should only be sold as the pair. Its like yoda they can't sell him as a solo pf. This will top the $500 price tag

I do to recall hearing that they can't sell a stand alone Yoda in the 1:4 scale line because of some of the size restrictions in the license, so the same might be true of R2. Maybe he needs to be sold along with C-3PO to be allowed under the licensing rules.

But regardless of licensing, if you're going to get one, you're probably going to get the other. Gotta have the pair, so why not just make life easier and sell them that way? They would probably be $300 each if released individually, so if we get a set with both in the $500-550 range, it should be seen as fair pricing.

R2 is actually not that small, they could easily release him by himself. I'd actually expect them to be more than $300 each, since Tarkin was $350 and is way simpler. They're both complex unique shapes with posable elements and electronics, and C-3PO has the gold finish.

Most likely it will go for 550 plus and sold as a pair

PLEEEEASE make them do the shiny gold finish. The 1/4 & 1/6 Indy Arks look like crap in that matt finish. If they cheap out, I'll fly to SSC and stab whatever genius makes that fateful decision.

These PF's should be the BEST we've ever seen from any company... again, if they do them right.

If I recall correctly, they can't do Yoda by himself because Lucas says he is a prop and SS PF line is limited to characters. Not exact, but something like that.

What's the latest update on these two?

I hate when sometimes we get a tease like...what now...2 years ago or whatever, and still NOTHING lol

Then crappy things we don't care about, suddenly pop up on priority preorder and ready to go a few months later lol

Like why show us then make us wait 3 years lol

Agreed.

My ONLY fear... the gold plating on 3PO. If they finish him like the 1/4 Ark - my head will fully explode.

The 1/6 Medicom and Kotobukiya's have beautiful gold plating; there should be NO excuse for SSC to do what they did to the Ark with this piece.

Don't get me wrong, but the only reason for me to hope for a SS droids couple is the price of the medicom ones.
Medicom's plating, lighting, facial (?) expressions, everything is already on a level I would consider as wow.
