Looks like Medicom got themselves a deal with Toys McCoy. Very awesome figure & robot......but the price is well...crazy.

Various light up parts, which is a first for Medicom and limited to 600 in the world.

I wonder who can afford this?

I was considering getting one, but I would prefer 7 or so Hot Toys figures if I'm gonna be spending that kind of money.

Must have. I have been a Maschinen Krieger fan since I was a kid.

I am hoping I did the conversion on the MSRP wrong. Is that Yen to $? (over 1k?) :horror

ETA: $1,100 for a 12" figure? Not in this lifetime. At second glance, it doesn't have much any more detail than the originals. For that kind of scrilla, I would expect some serious details/decent paint/metal parts. :(

I think its awesome.

according the article posted on Hobby Link Japan it has light up LEDs all around it- http://www.hlj.com/maktmc2.html

I'm glad I got my credit cards down to zero balances. (well, one still has about a $40 balance)

You wonder who can afford this? I wonder how long it's going to last! Prices for high-end toys (or call 'em collectibles if you like) are reaching a critical level. Lately, Medicom has proven to be a ringleader in this. Their 12" figures are close to $200 a piece now. I wonder how long they can hold up this level of pricing. The backlash will come, sooner or later.

I got a chuckle out of the perky nipples on the pilot. I assume the flight suit's interior air conditioning runs a bit on the cold side.

Its a really stunning piece... but $1,249 just doesn't compute for any 1/6 item.

And really compared to something like the Tumbler or Powerloader I just don't see the justified cost. Sure the ES is small... but that's it.

jrice73
07-25-2009, 05:48 PM
I think the whole deal here is that its Toys McCoy. Those guys have always produced high end 12" figures in limited quantities and their figures like the Indiana Jones one or the Steve McQueen Cooler King from The Great Escape immediately double or triple or quadruple in price for some reason. My Hot Toys Tumbler is 10 times more detailed than this SAFS figure even with the female pilot fig thrown in and its 1/3 of the price. Hell, my Hot Toys Kane figure has just as much detail on this thing and only cost me $114.00 from Bigbadtoystore. SF3D/Machinen Kreiger fans though in Japan (or elsewhere) will sell their organs to get this tough. I guess I shouldn't say anything though. I'm going to drop $1300.00 on that massive 40 inch tall Evangelion Unit 01 statue... But at least that's ridiculously massive.

$1249.99? Come on! Really?!!! It's nice, but no way, shape or form is it worth that price. $300 tops! But $1249.99?!!! Maybe it's a typo. Maybe it's really $124.99. Insane. 'Nuff said.

http://www.hlj.com/maktmc1.html (go through all the pages for the translation - i do like the feminine lines in the lower right picture on the second page...)

the articles above also try to justify the cost based in the toys mccoy indiana jones being produced in a quantity of 3000 several years ago and this piece will only be made at 600 pieces (hence the cost almost 5 times as high as the indy was).

Several years ago, I picked up a 1/6th kit of one of these Armored SAFS suits. While the bulk of the kit is resin, it also came with metal pieces and springs and stuff. I haven't built it yet, but now I'm tempted in doing so and throwing it on Ebay.Japan with a starting bid of $1500... ;)

well medicom has always been at the forefront of overpriced products. the only way to stop this is to stop supporting their products. this isn't even all that well-made. it's a very cool design for sure, but it looks like a plasticky toy. pure and simple. boycott medicom til they learn to be reasonable.

This figure and pricing has nothing to do with Medicom. They got involved late in the game. Im guessing they are just helping with distribution and/or manufacturing.

The design and pricing was well established a long time ago when it was just a Toys McCoy project.

Lets not use this as another excuse to bash on Medicom.

ok, i stand corrected about this figure then.

but i still stand by my sentiments about medicom's pricing in general.

their stuff is way overpriced and not even very well-made sometimes. case in point was their tdk joker. what a horrible figure, with a laughably bad costume. they do make some good stuff as well, but they are simply not realistically priced, imo.

i'm not a medicom basher. i have no ill-will towards the company. but what i state is just an observation. and i don't think it's inaccurate or biased.

well, from what I understand there are no reused parts anywhere on this piece. So everything is brand new parts build just for this set. So the price is probably a reflection of R & D, manufacturing and distribution costs all crammed in. Though I do wonder what their profit margin is on this?

yeah after I thought about it, I think you might be right. I still think it would have been better to maybe put some cool militarisitic looking emblems or logos or even weather it a bit. I dont have that kind of money to drop on a 12" figure anyways so I guess it doesnt really matter. As I said I'll stick to the smaller Ma.K stuff.

Not quite buying that... HT Powerloader is easily as complicated as this; if not more (not to mention the licensing costs likely being higher) and was 1/5 the cost.

well, HT made more alien related 1/6 merchandise, and ripley is pretty much a reused figure using existing HT parts. This set, on the other hand, has brand new 1/6 female figure, (as far as I know) and no other related merchandise made in the 1/6 scale. It is expensive, but they got to make some money in the market they are targeting. (mainly japan, I am very surprised SSC is importing it to US where SF3D has very small popularity)

Its one of those things that SAFS/MaK is just so un-noticed that I think it draws such a high price tag. If you look bbts has a new figure coming out as well about 6 to 7 inches and its up there in the mid 100's...just crazy if you ask me. I love MaK but not for those kinds of price tags.

Reading through this thread as a johnny-come-lately, all I see is moaning about the price. It is expensive. and probably overpriced, but it's amazing. To each their own.

I think this kind of explains why it's expensive. Comparing it to old hot toys figure just doesn't do it justice.

The Toys McCoy version is the Real McCoy, it actually works. You can put he pilot in and the suit remains articulated! This is the 3rd and final prototype and it’s taken them this many versions to get it this far and to a standard that Okamoto-san himself as a Maschinen Krieger fan and extreme detail perfectionist is happy with, the ultimate scale S.A.F.S replica. Where’s the flashing lights button here!?! It has a full list of selling point details but I didn’t take notes on them, they honestly don’t interest me that much. I remember the obvious ones of course, the cool lights and buttons that actually work - that’s right, the buttons in the cockpit are “the buttons” as is the laser arm and so on. Cockpit instruments light up too.

More for me, it was the perfect finish and fit of the parts, the overall look and feel of the thing. The hatch closes over first and then snuggles done for a close fit via magnets. You know, like how you want your models to look and fit! The split function of the suit which works as you could imagine the real deal would. The plastic “ceramic armor” is in Mercenary Jedeite Green Grey and has been over painted with Mercenary Silent Grey which you could actually scratch off for realistic weathering. They asked what I thought about the “brand new finish” and I let them know that as a weathering fan, it’s a great idea. I can buy a factory fresh model and then weather it how I like! You can get to the fun part immediately and skip the 63 hrs it takes to have each of the 600 limited releases hand-crafted. I mentioned that 600 doesn’t seem like many for such a cool release and Okamoto-san let me know that it’s in fact the upper limit because of the technical difficulty of putting the suits together and that he won’t put any further strains on the team nor do anything to impact the perfect quality of the final releases. In fact, as a quality control measure, they video each and every suit under construction and number them so they will have the build log of each suit stored so they can aim for a Zero Claim record on this project. That one just blew me away, how do they come up with this stuff!?!

also,

Yokoyama-san was most pleased with the positive comments in this thread and is sorry about the expense. Realistically, this release isn't aimed at "us", the model building folks because we can make and paint our own toys right? The pre-finished and collector market is another category and more of what Okamoto-san (white t-shirt and cap) and Mihara-san (white button up shirt -mugshots on my site SMH!) makes products for. You know, how many of us are wearing Steve McQueen replica leather jackets from the Great Escape that cost $2000USD? I would guess not many, just like Sensei himself, many model makers say, "Ooh, that's a lot of kits!!!". Cheesy

Anyway, is there a way to find one of these these days? I doubt many people in the states have one.

any girl that can ride a heavy armor fighting suit is sexy in my book. :)

For sure. I wonder if they will release any more in this series?

I would say unlikely. A shame though, if they can make more perhaps the price would not have been so insane. Right now it seems like only Sentinel (1/16) and 3A (1/12) have plans for Maschinen Krieger.

And the 3A offering was a major letdown.

Excellent SAFS BTW. What is it holding, a panzerfaust?

half of a ww2 german bazooka. Haven't found a panzerfaust that fit the suit lookswise. everything look puny in its giant robot hand.
