This is stupid in my opinion.

How hot are Argentinian women? The guy flew there for a booty call! I may have to add another country to my list of sexy lady hotspots. :lol

So he had an affair. Who's business is it but his own? Why should he step down from office?

I still don't get why personal and sexual matters are anybodies business in politics. What a silly game. :lol

It shouldn't be... but yet we seem to be a culture that loves to know about people's business and particularly seem to like sit in judgement.

But I guess its karma for him voting to impeach Clinton :lol

I think your missing the big picture, which isn't so much the affair, its that someone who's married and in the public eye cheated on his wife, and someone who had an obligation to the entire state, dissapeared for a few days without even letting anyone on his staff know. People thought he was dead or missing.

He is irresponsible and shouldn't hold a post that requires alot of responsibility.

What if there had been an emergency and they needed the govenor to declare it so they could have gotten aide, they didn't know where he was, thousands of people could have died.

We learned from Katrina, until the governor calls for help, no one comes. So yea, big deal if you think past the tanned boobs.

Point taken. That part is of concern. I was more thinking about the affair and how everyone is going to make a much bigger deal of that, as they usually do, then of the rest.

Very hot. The lesson of this story.... Keep your booty calls close to home. :lecture

Something to address is, on whose dime was the trip funded by?

If it was on his own money, it's a moral issue, and considering he cited 3 or so articles to call for Bill Clinton's impeachment, it's kind of ironic. But it still remains a moral issue unless....

-he was elected by the public based on morals and if the public does not share the same morals.

If it was using state money, that is state taxpayers, and they have every right to make it their business.

Another issue is, he lied about his whereabouts. Going on a hiking trip and climbing mountains might infer 'something else' if you look at innuendo, but he still lied. While to some it happens everyday, some can take this as an issue because if he can lie about this, he can lie about anything.

Also, he was gone for 7 days.
Do they use personal vacation, or while on the payroll as a salaried government official? if so, he was being paid by the taxpayers while messing around. again, not good.

I think it says alot about his character...

If you can't even stick to your wedding vows and do what's right for your family, how can you be trusted to uphold the oath you took when your sworn into office?

I remember a time when Democrats were constantly being exposed for adultery, affairs, etc.

Given the recent trend . . . it's Republicans who are now being brought to light and shame given the conservative reputation.

My my . . . how times changed.

As much as how many of us feel what politicians do behind closed doors is none of our business and should not affect how they govern/carry on with political duties/responsibilities, but given the said and unsaid attitudes within this country . . . it does make a difference and it does matter . . . whether we agree with it or not.

GOD forbid . . . IF I ever run for elected office . . . I might as well "come out" by stating that I'm a kid at heart, I collect toys, I enjoy naked women and porn as much as the next guy, I have conservative, liberal, and traditional beliefs and values, but my personal quirks not withstanding . . . such as zero tolerance for @$$holes . . . I can make a good councilman, mayor, governor, etc.

:lol

I, for one, do not think it is remotely OK to cheat on a spouse. And I have to think that if his ethics allow him to stab his very family in the back like that, then he is not likely to hold his constituents in enough regard to represent their best interests.

it would be hard to be an effective Governor with the certain press hounding he would receive. the people deserve someone who can represent them, not one who has to worry about defending / justifying himself.

All i have to say is, affairs are common practice in the white collar world.

Sanford didn't just vote to impeach Clinton, he gave speeches denouncing what Clinton did. So for me the real moral crime is the deep rooted hypocrisy involved and the real real-world crime is the cover-up these last few days and any possible malfeasance.

What if his wife wasn't giving him sex? But for the sake of his family he decded to stay with her until they had raised their kids. A mans got to release the fuse.

:lecture :lecture. completely agree. i could care less about him making an international booty call.... but the fact that he was all cloak and shadows about it to cover it up from the wife, which could in turn could've had serious consequences on his peoples behalf. that's what i find problematic.
