For those of you wondering how I did the choke and lift: I just put a band around Vader's open hand and Antilles neck (below the collar so it doesn't show) and then positioned the C-ring on Antille's stand below his crotch to the appropriate height and put another rubber band on the part of the stand where the metal meets the plastic (so the C-ring doesn't slide down).
I should have slipped his left leg down the C-ring so that it would preserve the illusion better.
Just changed it to the left leg. Looks like he is really being held in mid air! :rock
FQRizzo
07-08-2009, 11:56 AM
Ok.... The wire for Antilles is not happening. There are just too many pieces like shoulder armor, chest box straps robes and capes to negotiate. :( Video has been taken with my nice camera but I forgot to bring the wire to hook it up to the PC. :banghead
So I took a shorter video with my cheap digi camera and I will post that as soon as my boss leaves for lunch (20 minutes). I will still post the other video. It will just have to wait.
Is your place of occupation accepting any applications? :lol

If that's the original costume then it appears that the mask has both silver tusks. I've never noticed it without them in the film.

That's correct. You can see that the tip is painted, but the base is darker on his right tusk.

That could very well just be the light from outside..since the one tusk was just painted over i think or was a different finnish of metal, it was never completely solid black colour.

My guess is, probably cheap paint or something, inexperience of the costuming group and low budget, I think the shot Justin posted is probably from early test photos of the suit given the background, looks like it's shot in some random room, nothing fancy, and I imagine the paint just flaked away throughout filming. Some shots from the movie hint it, but in the cell scene with Leia, it's totally gone.

How can you not open Vader up and check him out(I know you had to once to adjust the tusk)????!
No one will know..... I won't tell a soul. Just take him out of that box... Go on! You can always put him back after and no one will be any more the wiser. No tape or twisties holding him in place.... Just a box you can put him right back into after you're done.
DO IT!

Frankly, he is unbelievable. Proportions look perfect in hand. Any nits I had from the pictures have melted away. This is a Hot Toys quality figure.
That's why I'm a little torn up about the tusk. I don't want to have to send him back and be Vader-less for a few weeks. :monkey2

Can you post a photo of the broken tusk?
I know the window of my box Vader had some silver marks from the tusk and the left tusk had a small black mark from rubbing. Are some Vaders getting smashed (not drunk) and the tusk giving way?

I'll try to post one later. It was the black tusk that was broken. The "chinstrap" part of the packaging wasn't hooked up on one side and Vader's head turned during shipping. The rest is history.

I found this shot from ESB. From what I can tell, the dome looks very similar to the one in this picture. I don't have it in hand yet so I can't say for sure, but if this figure has a dome that will serve for all three versions, I can live with the minor discrepancy.

Here's a question, as I can't find an answer on the SS site: how many hands are suppose to come with Vader reg and Vader exclusive?
I have the exclusive, and I got a total of 6 hands; two on him and another 4 mounted. For some reason I thought there was suppose to be 7 hands total with the exclusive.

:) This figure is all it was promised to be. I edited down to 58 images for the Rebelscum Photo Archive. THere would be more, but I ended up with a faulty cape that was cut uneven. I'll email for a new cape tomorrow, but it forced me to 'shoot around' the problem and limited what I wanted to do considerably.

Your photos look great to me Pix! If you're talking about the yellowish hue of the first photo, you can change the white balance setting on even very basic cameras to accommodate for fluorescent or incandescent lights and fix that right up.

DarthCitrix on Rebelscum just made a notable observation:
You can easily see the difference in the width of the helmet brim between the SS premium format and the 12" version. I don't see how SS could've made such variances in the helmet when they had an excellent model to work from.
http://www.cooltoyreview.com/2009/SSC-Vader-05.JPG
Although, from pictures I've seen, the PF Vader helmet is not perfect either.
Do you guys think it's possible to make Vader's side profile look more as it does in this movie still?

Also, still processing. I don't know why it takes SS so long to ship orders. I was hoping to have this by the 10th. Now, I know I wont get it before the 15th. Sometimes, I think I would get my SS orders faster by ordering from Toys 2 -especially since I don't care about the exclusives.

That is what happened when my Iron Man Mark II shipped a few weeks ago. They quoted me at $8 and then when he shipped I was charged $15. On an off topic note, how much does Sideshow usually charge to ship PF's across the country?

It may be that the new dimensions of the box put it into a higher charge bracket.

Got mine yesterday like 20 min. before I had to leave for work. He is everything I hoped for. Just an imposing presence and centerpiece for any SW collection. I was thinking the helmet was way undersized in photos, but believe what you hear: IT'S A NON ISSUE IN HAND. Yes, they could have made it bigger with more flare, but the overall package is so great that this small shortcoming means nothing. Anyway, I'll take better pics (I hope) if the sun ever comes out here today.

This is definatly the Vader I've been hoping for! Sure its not perfect and there is room for improvement. I'm a MIB collector and had to open Vader up becuase a Tusk piece was glued to helmet and had to glue it on myself and then sealed it back up.
But I have to laugh at some of the complaints I've seen about this figure. The dome truely is a non issue! This is the same tired arguement thats been happening since SS started the line . By now people would know to wait for in hand pics before passing judgement.
I think this is defiantly Sideshows best and should certainly be figure of the year.
pixletwin
07-09-2009, 12:24 PM
And to be honest, if there was a Vader I would want SS to spend the learning curve on it would be this one... but all that stuff aside the Helm looks great.. Not sure why going from 2-D pics from every angle to actually seeing a piece in person makes such a huge difference, but it does. If MCrawford gives this figure anything less than "****" I will be greatly surprised.

I should get mine from ups later today, I wanted to know for those who have him already, when you guys say tight jointed body are you saying the body is as tight as a tru type or hot toys body or a tighter sideshow body as opposed to promethus or stormtrooper body or is it a different type altogether. Please give details, anyone?

I dunno... I think the complaints people have had about the figure are legitimate. It's like telling someone not to complain when the rare steak they ordered arrives medium-well. We already know Sideshow reads these boards and letting them know what we are dissatisfied with (hopefully) leads them to correcting those problems further down the line.
And I think I fall into the other camp regarding photos / having it in person on this one. Whenever I take a picture of him, I always tend to aim from below so as to angle the rear of the helm and that makes it look more ANH-ish. In person, I honestly think it looks too short and isn't pulled down far enough over his eyes.

It's just a fact of life of our planetary reality that UPS had just GOTTA charge ya more to get U.S. stuff to you when you are not in the U.S.. You should see what I have to pay for shipping to get things from the U.K..

UPS leaves their customer service at the border and makes up stupid charges. How a shipping company can't find a way to efficiently, and affordably cross an imaginary line baffles me.

Got mine yesterday along with Hot Toys Predator and all I can say is WOW. This figure is the epitome of AWESOME in both scale and quality. I took the Predator out of the box, but hardly touched it b/c I was positioning Vader in just about every iconic pose imaginable. That is so awesome!
fall is here, hear the yell
back to school, ring the bell
brand new shoes, walking blues
climb the fence, book and pens
i can tell that we are gonna be friends
walk with me, suzy lee
through the park, by the tree
we will rest upon the ground
and look at all the bugs we've found
then safely walk to school
without a sound
well here we are, no one else
we walked to school all by ourselves
there's dirt on our uniforms
from chasing all the ants and worms
we clean up and now it's time to learn
numbers, letters, learn to spell
nouns, and books, and show and tell
at playtime we will throw the ball
back to class, through the hall
teacher marks our height against the wall
and we don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything
we sit side by side in every class
teacher thinks that i sound funny
but she likes the way you sing
tonight i'll dream while i'm in bed
when sill thoughts go through my head
about the bugs and alphabet
and when i wake tomorrow i'll bet
that you and i will walk together again
cause i can tell that we
are going to be friends

No..i do not own it..yet..but, its not hard to see the problems with it that would make it not place on my top ten figures of all time list.
And really, it does not matter if i own it or not..i had beef with the Stormie when the pics hit and when i got it in hand..still felt the same..pics can make or break the figure but, its never too far off from what we see in pics, production pics or in hand pics from people who bought it already.I know i will enjoy the figure for sure but, sometimes when you pay attention to detail more then others, its hard to accept something into a list such as "top ten best ever" thats just initial excitement talking, after recieving the figure.

its hard to accept something into a list such as "top ten best ever" thats just initial excitement talking.
Why do you have to accept what someone else thinks, it's their opinion big whoop.
All reviews are subjective, I'd wager many folks at this site would make a top 10 figure list heavily filled with figures chosen more for character than actual production qualities of the figure, etc.
If someone feels Vader's one of the best 1/6 figures ever made, let them, no need to challenge their opinion, could simply leave it at something like, "Well, personally, I think he's nice, but there are other figures that'd beat him on my top 10 list", and then your opinion would be out there, other opinions out there, and no feuds over that, that's where threads get out of control, people hypocritically cry about not being able to share their opinions and then are often first to attack people's opinions.
There's ways to be speak in rebuttle to opinions without it coming off as a personal attack on the person for having the opinion they did, and if people avoided going there, these threads wouldn't go on for pages in argument like this one has gotten to.

This Vader is top notch. He easily fits in with the SS SW line but there's just something about the materials used here that really set it apart. The craftsmanship on this one is beyond what we've been getting in the line lately.
Is it better than Godfather? Ironman Mark I? Predator? Who knows? Better in what way? But as far as eye candy, this Vader really grabs your attention in the best possible way.

I am giving my take on what i think about the figure and where it would place with me due to inaccuracies, i was never forcing my opinion as the be all end all point of view, just said it was a bold statement and that is IMO..always is..i found it funny how much BS i got from commenting on how SS F'ed up their Stormtrooper until others who own 1:1 scale Stormie helmets started agreeing with me that it was off, where others were saying it was perfect...then the naysayers finally gave in and said "oh! wow i really did not know there was that much of a difference"..so, i get grilled for "my opinion" because its me..then others come in to reinforce my point and fighting stops...its childs play on here sometimes.
