Indeed. I still plan on getting the ESB/ROTJ version, but this one will go better w/ Ben and Tarkin (someday) in the classic movie display.

What do you lot think of Tony's cape? I picked one up and I love it.
I think lances is awesome, but to have a properly edged seam looks great.

I love Tony's work, but his Vader cape wasn't for me. I had to return it for a partial refund. While the finished edges do look nice on their own, all that stitching causes the cape to not hang straight down. It bells out a little kind of like the stock cape.

Lance's one piece approach allows the cloth to hang down more naturally for this scale.

I got round to doing the helmet mod to Vader tonight. A good bit of grinding later and I notice a difference right away. It's like a completely different head, still getting used to it but the more screen accurate look is growing on me.

Along with the KP body, my latest change has reduced Vader's height down to something more realistic. How tall is everyone's Vader? Mine sits at 35cm (13 and 3/4 inches). On that subject, how do you cope with the giraffe neck using the KP body for Vader?

I shove my KP neck forward so I don't notice the giraffe part but perhaps you could put a little 'stuffing' under the shoulder armor to lift it up just a tad, thus reducing the neck. It's a cheat but it works.

Ah, I was actually wondering if one of you had a trick to reduce the giraffe neck height wise. I've tried those tricks. Simple but effective.

The one already on the body seems to be the shorter one. If I were really intent on shaving it down by those few mm, it's require a good bit of work. Probably would need to search around for that perfect neck post or cast my own :)

Once I get my custom tunic, he'll be near perfect...maybe throw in a cathode ray saber.

I used needle nose plyers to remove the SS joints. A little time to remove them (but becareful) but well worth it. I also trimmed one row of the gloves. But I haven't attached the cape yet.

The chain broke off. I'm only concerned w/a chicken neck Vader when I do fix the chain.

Heat the neck ball peg up with a hairdryer and the head will go right on.
Don't know what to tell you about the wrists.
I made the hole in the KP's arm socket a little bit larger to accommodate Vader's wrist pegs. I only had to remove the pegs from the boots. Hairdryer and needle nose pliers did the trick.

I had bought a pack of stick on velco strips from the supermarket for something else awhile back. I just cut thin strips off of those and stuck them right on top of the existing ones. Works fine.

Justin, whatever you do, do NOT pull those KP wrist pegs off the KP's wrists! They are a mother to remove and required pliers for me to remove, etching up the sides of the ball-joints despite padding the pliers with masking tape. And, ultimately, I ended up putting them pack in.

As others have pointed out here, get yourself some nice long needle-nose pliers and get at the tiny pegs inside Vader's boots and gloves instead. You'll need to heat them up with a hair dryer or dunk them in some hot water to make it easy. But, once you do, you'll find the original KP wrist pegs and ankle joints will fit perfectly into those Vader parts.

Here's how my Vader ended up looking on the KP-02 body with this method, complete with tightly-jointed wrists and ankles.

My un-modded SS Vader.

01-27-2013, 12:41 PM
For all those using the KP02 bodies, did you find that vader's mobility was an issue? It was nearly impossible for me to move his arms (let alone get his head to sit in right)

omegaglory1
01-27-2013, 01:02 PM
I pulled the wrist pegs off my KP, the downside was that the edges of the wrist became a bit damaged. This wasn't a huge issue since Vader's gloves would cover them up anyway. A bit of drilling widened the holes on the KP wrists, allowing the gloves to fit in just fine.

I found the SS pegs impossible to remove even after applying heat from a hair dryer. I avoided hot water for fear of what direct contact with hot liquid might do to the plastic. Eventually I gave up on this method and just sawed a centimetre offf the ankles. Not as bad as it sounds, since the boots still fit quite snugly and only come off if you yank on them. I'm not planning on re-using the KP body either.

For anyone having trouble getting the head to fit, I suggest sanding down the neck ball joint. My guess is that most people have done this.

Tabula, I might just do that. No one's going to look at Vader's backside anyway.

Hot water method is the easiest way to go about it. It literally takes a couple seconds in hot water and you can removed the pegs with virtually no effort. I have used it dozens of times for years, never had anything negatively effected.

Blow dryer is okay, but takes longer , is more awkward and you don't usually get and even distribution of heat.

Sideshow's next Vader will hopefully solve the out-of-scale body issue while maintaining the poseability of the arms.

So if you want Vader's hands-on-belt, then maybe wait for that one.

The KP02 body swap had more to do with scaling Vader down to 1/6 in relation to other figures rather than giving him flexibility.

You have no control when it comes to Darth Vader.

Nope. :) He IS Star Wars for me. And I really find it hard to resist anything ANH or ESB.

That said, I don't expect it to be better.

What's your opinion on Lucas removing Shaw from RoTJ ghost sequence? I still get butterflies when Luke removes Anakins mask " let me look upon you, with my own eyes......" So awesome , too bad Lucas trampled on my soul with the PT.

Proved to be too much of a major pain in da ***. The way the shoulder armor sits on the shoulders made me worry about the chest piece breaking. Also coming up with a solution for the barbells attaching the head to the neck literally gave me a headache, but it seems the head rides pretty high up on the body.

The suit was SUPER tight on the body and by the time I got around to considering pulling the plugs out of the gloves and boots I decided to really make it all worth it I would need to get someont to re-tailor the entire suit.

Result: Gave up. :crying

So instead I opened my bloody skull valentines and ate them.

What's your opinion on Lucas removing Shaw from RoTJ ghost sequence?

Very sad indeed. I understand why he did it. I don't understand the "ghost" logic though -- only when you're 'good' do you get to be a "ghost"? And only the last moment you were good. So where's the redemption part, George? Wouldn't it be more dramatic to actually forgive Vader/Anakin/Shaw? Whatever... PT has a lot more serious problems than that.

It's possible (notice I didn't say likely) that the only other body that might work will be the reworked Sideshow Vader body on ESB Vader.

That is, IF it's truly reworked.

Yeah, I'll say it much to small for Vader. Its only as tall as a TT19, and only slighty bulkier.

But it works great for Thor.

So today I was digging around in my body bin and came across my spare HT Superman Reeve body and realized it would probably be perfect for Vader. Well, Reeve was trained by David Prowse when he bulked up to play Superman so it definitely feels right. I've thought about the mod before but never got around to trying it myself. I would be very interested to see what this might look like...

Yeah, that's a good one . I like the poses. I desperately need a cabinet. :lol

See that light switch? Yeah, well I want to punch whoever designed the house in the face. That switch is in the center of the wall. Who does that? Light switches should always go right next to a door way so you can reach right onto the other side and hit the switch so you don't have to walk into a dark room. The kitchen is on the other side of that wall so every time we go in we have to reach past my dollies to turn on the light. :monkey4

Iforigno cape and tunic
KP body

Helmet inside shaved down with dremel and re attached
Neck post shortened (as per Tabula Rasa's method) to remedy the "giraffe" neck

perfect body. i had hurricane put mine on a narrow as well back in the day. really brought out the classic A shape. not a fan of him all huge busting out of his clothes

No I'm sorry are you asking about the Vader? He's a kaustic KP02 body. Ben is on a narrow shoulder.

I wish I'd picked up an Old Ben and had a repaint done. I'll have to hold out for a future re-release, however unlikely that is. They look awesome together, nice work Short Round!

Thanks lejuan!
They're still fairly cheap. I definitely recommend picking one up. It'll most likely never be rereleased unfortunately. :( Trevor Groves sculpt just kills with a silentsurfer paint job. Thank you again. :)

Hey guys,

I'm SO late to this party. Great work from all of you who have replaced the body with the more accurately sized KP02. I've tried to find one of the KP02 bodies but there's nothing available. Does anyone know if the Hot Toys Chris Reeve Superman body would be a good substitute? It's got the height but not sure if it's bulky enough.

Thanks.

Do you think the mod is doable for someone with very limited customizing experience? Are we talking 'bout some simple cut and paste or is the risk of cracking the helmet quite high?

I'm attempting the mod myself and have the Hasbro Dome arriving soon. The Hasbro Dome has one peg in the center on the inside of the helmet . From what I know all you have to do is Dremmel that one peg down and it should fit on Vaders head perfectly .

Its up to you as to how low you want it to sit . Most people use just Blue Tack to hold the helmet so they can switch out the domes between Hasbro and SS. If your dead sure which one you want to use then you can just Superglue the Dome.

Also you want to buy some clear matte or flat finish for the dome since it wasn't shiney in ANH.

I don't think there is too much risk as far as the dome cracking.
