Yeah, its too soon. I don't need another Vader right now since there are way to many characters we need first... Boba, 3PO, Tarkin, Chewy.

I did. I get an amber color, less "red" more burnt orange almost brown color... but perhaps my flash isn't as sharp as other more up-to-date cameras here. Also it looks like the red really pops when the flash is used in a relatively low-light room. I have to wait untl the sun goes down a bit as my place just gets a lot of light.

Anyway, no biggie, just noticed some variation... as with everything, I'm sure that there will be variation to the "red eyes"; whatever effect causes it certainly it can't be replicated in every figure the very same way. So some may just have more 'red' behind their black eyes than others.

I think it was the below that got me; those eyes are really red:

For what it is worth, under normal lighting conditions the eyes have just a hint of red. My flash is probably pretty overly harsh as my room is in a somewhat low lit room.

It's time for some dynamic poses. (as dynamic as it can get) I know he can do a little more than what we've seen. LET'S SEE EM! I guess lerath or someone undressed him and he's much more pose able after that. Still, i know he can do a little more than what we've seen even without. C'mon people before i get mine! :)

Yeah leave the scale. It would look worse with different height Vaders.

Change the helmet? ok. The scale? Hell no.

I say keep it the same as well. The Sideshow Star Wars line is hardly to scale to begin with. So keep Vader standardized in size. He may be a bit too tall but he'll look fine compared to the short/tall Lukes, Leias, etc...

Just make sure to make Chewie even taller, though.

I'm sure we'll start seeing some custom Vaders being shortened a bit.

Not the best photos, but I think you get the idea...

In hand, the helmet is a minor issue. If you freeze frame ANH for comparison, it's still off -- but simply looks great in person. My biggest disappointment is the cape chain: there's no way to display it above the helmet and I much prefer that look. Seems odd that they'd go to the trouble of a metal chain if you never get to see it.

By the way, the Medicom Vader (ROTJ is above) looks great, but it really loses points for loose hands, a helmet that won't stay put, and difficulty in standing on its own. The height doesn't bother me that much, but it's still odd they went with a 1/7 scale (or whatever) instead of true 12" figures.

I do not want the scale changed on other Vaders, it'd be weird to have Vader figures from the same company in different sizes. It'd work out for those not getting the ANH, but those with ANH and getting another one or all the others, the idea is to have them all be the same size and just have the subtle differences from film to film.

I also don't want to see any change in the boots, I think they look great and their construction is best for a figure of this size, posable feet aren't necessary and gives room for flop issues, this one stands great on his own.

The only change I want to see on future ones as far as carry over items, would be the dome correction.

The only changes I would see for Vader from TESB/ROTJ is as mentioned by MF; a new dome. And new mask, gloves...and maybe a slighly modified chest armor?

My opinion between the two is based soley on aesthetic appeal...wrinkled up Marlon Brando is a the weakest link in my opinon..even if i did see The Godfather, i doubt the Don is going to become my favorite over Vader.

I like it Len. Can you give us more detailed on what you did?

Really the crappy pics don't do it justice at all. Here's what I did...

1. After taking the helmet off you'll find four plastic bands molded in the helmet which off-set the helmet from the mask, I used pliers to cut the front band out completely.

2. Then dremeled the two sides, and back until the helmet sat at the desired angle.

3. Then as horrid as this sounds, I sanded the top of the actual head/mask flatter.

4. Super glued post and contact points.

I would have took/posted pics of the process but lacked the time.

Hope this helps!!!

He looks even better in hand. The helmet isn't a issue in hand. And I would also agree that this is Sideshows best 1/6 figure as well as one of the best mass produced 1/6 figures from any company. He is a top notch figure and those that pass are missing out.

Such a small aspect of the figure, but the button and light detailing on Vader's chest box and belt are some of the highlights of the production on this figure, you will swear under a lot of lighting that they are little transparent boxes or lit, really well done, as close to looking like lit buttons as you can get without making them actually light up I would say.

My Vader came today and he's great. Only problem is the bottom section of his helmet, the "neck" part, has a few chips in it and is not rounded anymore like the rest of the helmet. It's really distracting to the overall piece.

Will SSC let me just return the head for a new one? I'd hate returning the body because the joints are nice and tight and it's a keeper.

Probably not, I wanted to send back just the body on a figure once and the response I got was accessories are just replaced but body and head issues are typically sending back the whole thing. Pretty sure everyone's got good joints on their Vaders, haven't read a complaint about joint issues from anyone, so I wouldn't worry about it if that's your reservation about replacement.

I just received my Vader and as soon as I take him out of the packaging. His Helmet comes off the head. I can see where the two glue points are suppose to be. Lucky crazy glue can fix this. But I got a little worried at first. They should wait till the glue dries before throwing him into the packaging. See the glue point of the top of the nose and the other glue spot was on the side of the head

This figure is pure love. Nothing about it bothers me in person. Well, okay, so mine has a tiny little scratch...or maybe a paint smear (it's silver?!) on the back of the dome. It'll never be seen, since I'll always be posing this guy facing forward, but I may be forever bothered that it's there... :( If it is an accidental hit of silver paint, what can I use to remove it? I don't want to harm the dome in any way, and I really don't want to have to return this guy, because he's PERFECT otherwise. :monkey2

I think a lot has to do with how much his look changed over time and that each one of us has years and years of expectations for how he should look. I think some images have captured the look very well, but still even in hand he's better that you would expect.

Yup. As a matter of fact, I can't think of any 1:6 doesn't have a "bad side".

That's because the human eye and the camera don't see things the same way. It's too bad because there are times my eyes see things a certain way but I can't get the camera to get the exact same look. Which is also the challenge of photography, you set up a shot and to your eyes the angle and all looks great, but the camera interpretation isn't the same.

Front on shots of Vader's mask and dome just don't convey the look your eyes get when he's in your hands. It doesn't change the flaws in it, but in hand they're less exaggerated and easily ignored, though that's not to say it wouldn't be nice if they were corrected in future Vader's.

Photos can make things look nice and present them well, but they will never ever give you the same experience as staring at something right before your eyes. Photos can make Vader look like a great figure, but you truly can't appreciate the Premium Format level of quality put into him until he's out of the box and right before you, you need to really be able to take in all the textures and everything to truly appreciate it.

Personal memory is a HUGE factor. Some of the issues with the dome that have been pointed out in here, I notice because a number of personal Vader images in my memory require the errors to not be there for the figure to fit those images.

I can look past it and enjoy the figure, but very definitely how we remember these characters visually plays a big factor.

Really, it's why we buy these things, at least for me, the film or TV show has had such a visual impact upon me, that to have these 3D representations, be it a figure, a statue, a prop replica, of these things I've come to really cherrish over the years is a lot of fun, but there are stand out visuals that are embedded into our minds of these things and no matter how awesome a piece can be, if it doesn't quite line up with that memory, it can throw us a bit, usually we can work past that and still love the piece, I do, but it's impossible to completely ignore things, it's just a matter of whether you notice or whether you let it consume you to a point of not enjoying the piece, and thankfully I notice, but it doesn't consume me.

My Vader arrived in Bucharest Romania with FedEx. It was in customs 2 hours ago - just checked up FedEx site/link they provided. Hope they don't open the toy box up and mess with it. That's why I hate FedEx, when shipped through regular postal system or Express Mail the customs are in my city, they open up (or not) the box in front of you.

The Exclusive Stormtrooper which arrived some time ago also through FedEx wasn't opened by customs, only the brown shipping box. And stupid FedEx guys then told me on phone they will deliver the "toy" to me the same day. I said: "if you consider this to be a toy please don't ask me to pay customs or other #$#%^ fees/taxes". There was a good friend next to me also hearing our phone conversation with FedEx guy and he laughed so hard.

I would buy a new head from Toy Anxiety than send the whole figure back.

You buy a new instead of sending it back?

Isnt he selling them for like $25? plus shipping?

I have a question. I just got mine and I noticed that the top of the instrument panel on his chest is not attached to anything. Only the bottom has a strap that wraps around the body. This doesn't seem normal.

Ooooo...that is funky. It seems like everyone's been getting decent Vaders. What are the odds of you sending it back and getting another bad one??? You could always just pick up a head from ToyAnxiety if you feel the rest of the figure is in good shape and you don't want to risk it. But then again why should you have to buy a $20 head after dropping $125????? I don't know up to you.

I just submitted a request on mine today because the silver tusk broke off during shipping and both sides of his helmet rubbed against the plastic tray and scuffed it.

Yup the whole freakin figure :banghead

Yeah. :o

I just received my Vader and as soon as I take him out of the packaging. His Helmet comes off the head. I can see where the two glue points are suppose to be. Lucky crazy glue can fix this. But I got a little worried at first. They should wait till the glue dries before throwing him into the packaging. See the glue point of the top of the nose and the other glue spot was on the side of the head

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/kaidoy021/IMG_0208.jpg

Just got mine here at work and I had to open him up to give him a quick once-over. Mine also had his helmet come undone. But the peg that sticks into the top of his head seems tight enough to keep the helmet on without using glue. Another quick observation, the top green button on his front panel seems a little sloppy.

Otherwise it looks great and I can't wait to get home! :chew

Im not going to make a big deal about its really not noticeable.I used some scratch remover it kinda helped.

I modded the inside of the dome so it fits correctly on the mask major improvement.

Sideshow did a nice job on him the only thing I dont get is whey they gave him a esb paint job and not anh ?

All in all im happy this is the best darth vader figure EVER.

I've been waiting for him since the announcement of the SW line in 2005! :google :D But wow, if only all Sideshow figures had joints that move so tightly and smooth. I say ditch the Prometheus all together please and use this armored body originally used for the Stormtroopers and that has now been significantly improved (and enlarged) with Vader!

Got mine today and all I can say is if they hadn't monkeyed around with the helmet on this thing it would be absolutely PERFECT. I've read a lot of people saying that the helmet doesn't look as bad in person as it does in pictures and unfortunately I don't agree. It still looks "off" to me especially from a straight-on angle. I love the figure overall, but I'm disappointed the helmet wasn't done right because it prevents the figure from being a slam dunk 10 out of 10.

I'm sure it looks somewhat better, but Lenoir's mod can't be judged very well, all the pics I've seen have the head tilted quite back, you can make the figure without mods look better doing this too.

Look at that photo, you shouldn't see that much of the under part of the mask with the triangular vent, you see that because the head is titled back.

If it makes people happier with the figure, go ahead, just saying, the mod hasn't made dramatic differences, it's a mod in combination with a viewing angle that helps the figure without a mod.

Again, I'm not saying it won't help a bit, I'm just saying, the photos make the difference look more dramatic because of the viewing angle as much as what the mod actually achieves.

It is a step closer but it's still not right. If you posted the clearer photo that Lenoir took you can still see the "eyebrows" of the mask.

To make it right, the "brows" of the mask should be completely hidden by the brow-ridge of the dome. Or you can just take dark photos and skip the work. :D
