Stormies were perfect for being a $90 action figure. Nothing is going to compare to a original 1:1 piece.

Well, let me put it this way for me both items look to me like what I see on screen, the materials kick ass, and have been worth the $. That is all that really matters when it comes down to it for a purchase from my POV.

Thats probally the best part, the prices on figures from SS are always generally decent.

Has anybody popped this guy next to the SS Darth Maul yet? If I remember right, that was considered the best SS SW figure at its time. I wonder how he stacks up to this one, especially given the height?

this Vader really grabs your attention in the best possible way.

Yup, while I can agree with and spot the off points on the figure, there's just something so hypnotic in how nice he looks that if you're staring at him on your desk and someone started talking to me about the innaccuracies, I'd shake my head and ask them to repeat what they just said because I didn't catch it.

He is such a captivating presence on display, I find to spot the off points, you have to go looking, they don't slap you in the face every time you see it like some figures can.

I just can't wait for Jedi, this figure has first Sideshow Vader magic for me, but I don't feel the special love a lot of folks are because of the memory burn of that revelation of him in ANH, ROTJ is and always will be my Vader, when they do that one, if it has the reveal and the portrait's done right, then I'll have a truly emotional connection with a Vader figure, and given how just being a nice figure makes me feel with this one, that'll be a magic feeling to add special memories to.

Well, I'm sure people want to see them just as is, but I'll be doing Sith art stuff soon. I enjoyed providing the first glimpses of Vader for everyone here, but I didn't get much into artistic imagery, pretty straight forward stuff and now that I've taken some time away from the figure, I'm ready to come back to it. No more do I have to go, darn that would have looked cool but won't work without a Vader.

Un F'in REAL! Just opened him and am shocked, one of the top 3 1/6 I own I think including all my *official* Hot Toys figures. Can not get over the scale, he almost seems TOO tall. Love that they did ANH. Is there anything WRONG with this figure, I sure can't see anything! Amazing! Pics hopefully Sunday night

Funny you should mention that because this is the first SS fig that actually didn't have that smell. But thats ok. There really isn't any paint on him (at least not as much as a headsculpt would have).

I just can't wait for Jedi, this figure has first Sideshow Vader magic for me,

ANH Vader has always been my favourite, so as soon as I have a replacement cape and get some plmmer's puddy on the armour, I'll be set. Next, I'm hoping for the ROTS Vader. I dig the design of that costume, all shiny and new with a baggy body suit (let's face it, having a scrawny guy in the armour in ROTS makes sense. Give the guy 19 years of lugging around metal appendages and he'd bulk up just in time for ANH)

I am giving my take on what i think about the figure and where it would place with me due to inaccuracies, i was never forcing my opinion as the be all end all point of view, just said it was a bold statement and that is IMO..always is..i found it funny how much BS i got from commenting on how SS F'ed up their Stormtrooper until others who own 1:1 scale Stormie helmets started agreeing with me that it was off, where others were saying it was perfect...then the naysayers finally gave in and said "oh! wow i really did not know there was that much of a difference"..so, i get grilled for "my opinion" because its me..then others come in to reinforce my point and fighting stops...its childs play on here sometimes.

So your opinion matters since you don't own the figure, but I'm reacting from the initial excitement of receiving it? Flawless logic... have a :banana

Valfar, I think people react to your posts like this because since you first joined you have had negative things to say about all things SSC. Personally many of your posts I ignore now because it goes without saying your going to have a dig at Sideshow..RANT RANT RANT...... your allowed your point of views & sometimes I agree with them :horror but sometimes you've got to see the good (it's called balance), afterall these are just hand crafted art/toys and unless your are perfect at everything you do (if you are please create your own line of figs), surely you can't find fault in everything SSC do

It wasn't even really that. In the same posts, he blasted Sideshow's Stormtrooper for every single inaccuracy yet praised Medicom's, even calling it superior, despite all it's short comings and doubled price. Clearly, based on the majority of posts, there's a bias that just rubs people the wrong way. Well, that, the repetitive, self-appointed "expert" comments and the childish jabs, like calling Nerdy Black Guy "Aunt Jemima," when he starts losing an argument.

Why is one of the tags for this thread 'Worst Helmet Ever'?

Looks okay to me...

:lol I noticed that tag a while ago. Infact, I didn't even know threads had tags until I read that statement at the bottom of the page.

But while I don't think it is the worst helmet ever, I do think it is in inaccurate representation for ANH. I suggest that all of us who are disappointed with the current helmet design write to 'Ask Sideshow (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/php/asksideshow.php)' to request an explanation for what happened to cause changes in the design when this Vader is supposed to depict his costume from ANH and not some idealized version. We should also state our desire for a corrected helmet. It is important that enough of us contact them so we can get a response and maybe some positive action.

Here is a link to the form:
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/php/asksideshow.php

Here is what I wrote:

Why was the helmet for Darth Vader not shaped accurately when this version of Vader is supposed to be his representation from ANH? In the movie, his helmet has a distinct shape and size that gives him the iconic look that everyone remembers. Of course things in 1/6 scale cannot be perfect, but the difference is drastic enough that I believe it could have been much better. Please consider reissuing a corrected helmet that better matches the shape from the film. It would really show your loyal customers that Sideshow continues to hold their products to the highest standards with your attention to detail and accuracy.

Great pics, Josh! Love the detail shots!

For those whose tusks arrived broken, where did they break? Is it just the tip that sticks out, or is it the "rods" that go from the back of the helmet to the front point? The reason I ask is because in Josh's pics, the rods seem to be molded onto the helmet and do not appear to be separate pieces.

On mine the piece just wasn't glued on to the helmet, its an actual peice of plastic or plate as I call it about an inch long that goes on the side of the helmet . For me it just got missed being glued at the factory so it was an easy fix.

We call it tusk, but it's basically the tiny bead on the end of his tusk. The plastic coffin he comes in had a bead-sized dent in it, so I can see how it broke. Not enough room between the lid and his face.

I guess my $12 charge isn't so bad now -- I told a friend and he was like 'hey call SS, that's way too much'. I was all ready to call SS and double-check that I had been charged correctly, but it's looking like that is the correct amount for this size package.

I think its just the size that puts it into a different bracket for shipping. But we're talking about a $4-$8 difference from usual shipping on a $125 figure. A couple bucks here or there...

Yeah, I had forgotten about the extra cost of signature requirement, which is kinda ridiculous that Sideshow basically forces you to get charged an extra $5. I know they do it in order to cover their butts in case your package gets stolen from someone's front door. And it can be tragic with expensive PFs and statues. But I think someone mentioned in another thread that nowadays, most figures are over $100, which means pretty much everything requires signatures! They should maybe consider changing the cut-off price to $150.

Ahh, gotcha! Equally strange! Although I imagine it probably just didn't get enough glue and eventually fell off, whether because of being jostled around during shipment, or changes in temperature or pressure in its environment.

Yep. I get hit with the new CA state tax of 10% plus the shipping, so it adds up real fast. Nothing like Europe though. But most of SS's figures are still around $90 so it just gets in under that line.

I got Ex. Toht coming and I dread the shipping/tax charge on that one (big AND heavy).

Sideshow actually addresses this in yesterday's newsletter and it looks like UPS and FedEx both increased their prices for this "service":

To ensure your Sideshow Collectibles' piece arrives safe and sound, we do require a signature for orders that total $100 or more! As a reminder, a few months ago the shippers slightly increased their fees for this service to $3.75 USD per UPS box and $2.75 USD per FEDEX box!

I wouldn't really mind paying the extra $$ for Vader...if he would only ship! Still at "processing"...and today is my birthday too:monkey2

I was charged $11.04 for the PZ PF and $13.81 for Vader. :google

I did the signature waiver on PZ so that probably saved a few bucks.

OMG. PFs cost around $80 to ship here, and I'm 40 minutes from the border. Throw on UPS' $30 "because we can" charge and duties, it aint pretty.

Will be posting pics of both, but I am excited to be able to open a really nice, new Darth Vader figure, for the first time, like all you guys are.

Thanks...It's actually a custom case I had made for my SW 1/6 collection, so they wouldn't be spread out all over the place; however I'm constantly rearranging it for space...hence the plexi stands...:banghead

Here is where I buy mine. The pickings are getting slimmer though, so if you see something, I recommend buying it fast because they are liquidators and will not be getting more in stock.

You're right. I mentioned this ages ago bit it got lost in the pages of new posts. It needs lowering like you said, and also tilting back a little. I can't be bothered photoshopping any side view images.... but angle of the front of the helmet is supposed to be further back than the bridge of his nose... but on these SS production ones they both match... resulting in the back of the dome being higher than it should be

fix those two things (which I'll be doing to mine when it gets here) and it'll make a difference :)

The others on Rebelscum can speak for themselves, but I don't hate this Vader. Far from it. Like I said earlier, this has been my most anticipated 1/6 figure since I started looking for one in 2005. Yes, I would like the helmet to appear more accurate. But that does not mean I consider the figure crap or something of that extreme nature that some people appear to assume I believe.

SS Stormy is on the left and the Medicom is on the right. I elevated the stand on the Medicom by about a half inch.

Also when you search the internet try using the term acrylic risers instead of acrylic stands.

So I was posing my Vader in several different ways last night and I noticed that it appears his left leg is slightly shorter than his right. No matter how I pose him either with the stand or by himself, he leans a little to the right when looking at him straight on. Having never had to have a full figure replaced, is this something that Sideshow will help me fix? I'm no customizer, so I'm hoping SS will help me out and was just wondering if anyone else on here has had 'shorter leg syndrome' with their Vader.

These blast doors don't close, however I learned quite a bit while making this set. They still aren't done yet. I have to finish one more layer on the inside.

Working doors or not, that AMAZING! Best set I've seen yet for the Vader/Ben duel. If only I had the room you do...

without taking him apart I can't tell if it is, but I thought the same thing. With a little futzing around I was able to get both legs at the same length. Again, without taking him apart I don't know if when I moved him around I pulled the leg joint out or in a little, but I was able to get them at the same length.

Yep. The left leg on mine is definitely shorter. To even his height out, I just used the stand and bent the right leg so it looks like he is taking a step. The helmet on mine was also detached, but that's not such a big deal--I figure the packaging just pushed down on it enough to loosen the glue holding the helmet in place. Overall though, great figure. Not perfect, but great.

Yes, I actually like the yellow tinge. Gives it a vintage look. But I think you can correct it by changing the white balance on your camera. Change the setting from 'auto' to incandescent or fluorescent light.

For those that have the figure, have you tried taking a photo from the same angle as the one taken at SDCC?

I never noticed how tall Sideshow's Vader really was, at SDCC, because I had been assuming he was standing on a platform higher than the Stormtroopers for the showcase.

Try taking a flash photo and see what yours looks like.

Try taking a flash photo and see what yours looks like.

I did. I get an amber color, less "red" more burnt orange almost brown color... but perhaps my flash isn't as sharp as other more up-to-date cameras here. Also it looks like the red really pops when the flash is used in a relatively low-light room. I have to wait untl the sun goes down a bit as my place just gets a lot of light.

Anyway, no biggie, just noticed some variation... as with everything, I'm sure that there will be variation to the "red eyes"; whatever effect causes it certainly it can't be replicated in every figure the very same way. So some may just have more 'red' behind their black eyes than others.

I think it was the below that got me; those eyes are really red:

Just because they can, doesn't mean they will. They have the patterns for the Imperial Officer and so far we've got two on the way, even one on the Pro, but still no Grand Moff Tarkin. They've been taking the Gene Simmons approach since the beginning anyway, slow and steady. :lol

Another Vader within one year sounds too soon.....SDCC 2011 would be preferred to me, personally.

I want a 1:6 Biker Scout or other armored imperials before I get another Vader

never too soon

Considering that a figure is announced a year before it is released, announcing another figure is never too soon. But I would like to see Sideshow go back and rethink how to improve the next Vader (helmet, boots, overall scale, etc) before diving into prototype and production.

I do not want the scale changed on other Vaders, it'd be weird to have Vader figures from the same company in different sizes. It'd work out for those not getting the ANH, but those with ANH and getting another one or all the others, the idea is to have them all be the same size and just have the subtle differences from film to film.

I also don't want to see any change in the boots, I think they look great and their construction is best for a figure of this size, posable feet aren't necessary and gives room for flop issues, this one stands great on his own.

The only change I want to see on future ones as far as carry over items, would be the dome correction.

It would be bad business to preview another Vader until all the dealers have sold this one
