Thanks for the praise of my collection, I didn't make these pieces, just arranged for them to be shipped to me :D
The cabinets are from IKEA, they are called NARTORP and cost $179 or £89. Here in Switzerland they are only $137  Here some links:
Nartorp at IKEA USA (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=11341)
Nartorp at IKEA UK (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10103&storeId=7&langId=-20&productId=11341)
Or check your local IKEA site.
You get them with 3 adjustable glass shelves. To fit in Sauron and Gandalf on Shadowfax I had to drill 4 new holes for the holding pins, but that's all.
Just last night I have bought some very flat LED lights that will go on the bottom of each shelf. The advantage of those is that they are very thin and produce no heat. I'll still have to mount them before I praise them, though.

I will post some updated pictures later, but I'm still working on those damn LED lights for the illumination of the individual shelves...

The Stone Trolls actually only weigh 8.44kg and I think the 7kg limit that Ikea lists for the shelves is on the safe side, they could certainly hold more than that with no problem as long a the weight is evenly spread on the surface. I really feel I'm safe here.

Well, the only Fanclub Litho I have framed right now, is the Fellowship which is hanging here in my homeoffice:

I am having a tough time working on my setup and taking pictures right now (and in addition, my girlfriend doesn't share the same kind of enthusiasm with me decorating the whole house with LotR stuff :D ). I hope I'll find some time between Christmas and New Year and will post some pictures of the progress, ok?
After that, I'll be busy again, my 2nd trip to New Zealand coming up in January :banana

wow thats a great collection you have!!! wish i would've jumped on the LOTR collectibles back in the day. im gonna order a couple of those cases in a couple weeks!! they would match my office furniture.
--- girlfriends usually arent on the same page with guys and the whole decorating thing. my girl is constantly moving all my stuff around and telling me that i have my "room" and that my toys have to stay in there. the only problem is that im all out of room and my toy collection keeps growing.

You are telling me! I didn't start my collection until earlier this year...!
im gonna order a couple of those cases in a couple weeks!! they would match my office furniture.
If you order these cases from Ikea, I suggest you also get some of the LED lights called "Tjugofyra". I have just finished installing them this week, here's a preview:
http://www.goliath.li/forums/Sammlung_12_05_3_small.JPG
They help a lot if the top pieces are casting shadows on the bottom pieces. They are very flat and don't get warm at all.
And here's an update on my current display:
http://www.goliath.li/forums/Sammlung12_05_1_small.jpg http://www.goliath.li/forums/Sammlung12_05_2_small.jpg
Recent additions are Aragorn (finally, I've got the complete Fellowship :banana ) and PJ as a Corsair. Soon, I'll be getting my first Moria Orc (the Archer).

The UK link still works, but couldn't find them on the US website anymore:confused:
Ikea doesn't use part numbers, just item names, these are called NARTORP, maybe you call them and ask for it.

goliath
01-05-2006, 08:32 PM
Only one Troll left, the other one has been replaced with a Moria Orc Archer.
No problem with those statues on top, you could probably place 100 pounds on top of each cabinet with no problem, the weak points (if any) would only be the glass shelves. :D
BTW: If you can't see any pictures right now, I'm trying to update my website right now using a modem dial-up connection :sick

Is the UHSS the best orc statue?
The orcs are the lowest in my personal ranking, that's why I got them the last - the reason is not the sculpting of the statues, it's just because they don't mean much to me as characters in the books / movies.
They are pretty generic with few exceptions, no individual characters, but anonymous parts in a war machinery - but of course, that was probably also Tolkien's intention.
The Orcs that I have I would rank as follows:
1. Moria Orc Swordsman (awesome details, incredible sculpt!)
2. Uruk-Hai Scout Swordsman (very dynamic pose)
3. Moria Orc Archer (very nice details)
4. Orc Brute (I don't even display him...)

Well, these are Nartorps from Ikea, as far as I know the biggest display cases they make (or made, since the ayre no longer available and the Detolf would be the biggest now. What is the name and dimensions of the one you have?
I know that you can make a display with Billy or whatnot and add glass shelfves, but I am looking for something completely glass with as less frame interfering with the view as possible - like a big cabinet that you would find at a jeweler, about 10 feet wide, 6 feet high and about 18 inches deep.

Yup, these are Detolfs, they are smaller than mine, and the shelves are not adjustable, unfortunately. Statues like Sauron, Galadhrim, Witchking, Theoden, Gandalfax, Aragorn, Morgul Lord etc. don't fit because of their height.

It is not as scary as it sounds.
In Switzerland, we have a milita army, and service is compulsory.
You have to serve for a first period of 15 weeks at the age of 20, and then again every year for another 3 weeks until you have served the amount of days requested.
I have only one week left now, but I'm feeling very tired, getting old...:o

It is a full-scale replica of the bow of the Galadhrim, made by a German bow maker. It is actually fully functional (but it takes a strong Galadhrim to pull the bowstring and shoot an arrow with it...)
