Now this is confidence – there’s a good three months to go before UK audiences will clap their peepers on Michael Bay’s mega-sequel, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. Yet today Paramount and DreamWorks announced a release date for Transformers 3, in anticipation of box office receipts that Variety types might call ‘boffo’.

That date is July 1, 2011, which means that the Transformers threequel will pretty much have the July 4th weekend to itself. Frankly, it’s hard to envisage any rival studios being ballsy enough to go up against it.

Of course, it’s early days yet for the movie. No deals have been struck for the return of Bay, or stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, while writers haven’t even been hired.

No, this announcement is symptomatic of the increasing need for studios to earmark release dates for their tentpole movies a couple of years before the event. Marvel, of course, announced last week that, amongst other things, they were moving The Avengers to 2012, a year that will already see one of The Hobbit movies.

At this rate, we’ll be able to plan our 2020 weekend activities before the end of the year.

Of course, if Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen doesn't do as well as expected, this could turn out to be a very foolish bet. But we'd be very surprised if that happens. In the history of sure things, few have looked quite as sure as the total Bayhem coming our way on June 26.

Michael Bay left a response to yesterday's reports of Transformers 3 being dated for July of 2011 on his forums (http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3947):

I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.

I actually squirmed in my theater seat when all the shuckin' and jivin' moments popped up. How in the world could they possibly think that was okay? Hopefully we'll see none of that in the sequels.

i personally couldnt care less. as dumb as it might have been i found it entertaining. if you dont like it, then dont watch it. its that easy. i hate it when people feel they need to remove things for other people when it doesnt actually effect anyone.

I don't hope this nickoloden POS is back in this movie..he ruins it..Jazz ruined it as well..he was never that "black" in the cartoon..sorry but, ebonics and Tranformers do not mix..no way..Bernie Mac's "bust a rock in yo head" line was probally the only funny part of the movie though...but, still..not to sound offensive..i realize he tries to make these movies for everyone but, that really is what holds it back...the dumb blonde with poor aussie accent, the dumb acting nerd black guy, the hot and dumb hero's crush..this movie was twisted...in a sense.

They are releasing these movies fast, 2011 isn't that far away in movie time or in our normal time. They'll prob start shooting the movie a year from now in the summer of 2010.

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

I'm kinda concerned that this won't be very good. Lots of times when sequels are planned so soon after a previous movie the next movie isn't as good. Also considering that Bay wanted to take a break and do a different project before going to the next Transformers it makes me wonder how enthusiastic he is about being forced to do the next one so soon.

after the hype of the first one died off for everyone, the second one really didn't offer anything new to it's fans. i can't see how #3 can do any better, it will still do fine at the till, but it'll suck i'm sure.

Meh. I really liked the first one, thought the second one was alright, so my excitement and anticipation is low for the third. I just hope we finally see Hot Rod/Rodimus in this. He was planned for the first and even conceptualized (reportedly) for the second but keeps getting cut because of the writer's portrayals of the character. I saw a custom done in Bay style on eBay not too long ago and would kill to see that on screen.

I didn't think the second movie was horrible, but I had low expectations for it because of what I'd read and heard from people around me.

The twins were damned annoying, but they didn't have enough screen time to truly drive me crazy. The roommate tag along was completely unnecessary. The Fallen was neat looking, but ended up not being that good of a villain.

I'd like more focus on the core Transformers from the original film, and less random transformers thrown in just to say they were there. Really, with Optimus gone for half the movie (at least), Bumblebee, Ratchet and Ironhide should've had way more screen time.

Which is part of my biggest complaint - way too little of Bumblebee, and I didn't like how the Sam-Optimus bond suddenly replaced the one Sam shared with Bumblebee. Sam and Bumblebee didn't even get a scene together after Sam was "ressurected". Those two things were my biggest annoyances in the film.

So more Bumblebee in the third film would be what I want most.

For three reasons. 1: He was my favorite autobot as a kid, still have the toy with all the stickers torn off, etc. 2: He has been threatened to be included since TF1 but Hasbro has been unappreciative of the way his character is portrayed so he continually gets cut. 3: To hear all the Optimus fanboys go nuts because they still blame him for the death in the original Transformers movie. :lol

just imagine the transformers in the hands of directors like neil blomkamp. film makers who understand context, esp in action scenes, where "style" never impedes the clarity of what's happening on screen. in their hands, the transformers would be a truly special spectacle.

Cool, but I'm still done with this franchise. After leaving the theater from part 2 I decided to completely wash my hands of it. The first one was great, but the second one almost made me vomit.

Paramount Pictures confirmed today that Grey’s Anatomy hottie Patrick Dempsey has been cast in Michael Bay’s third installment of the Transformers franchise. The plot of the third film is being kept under wraps but we have learned that Dempsey will play Megan Fox’s boss in a role that is “significant to the plot.” The movie begins filming this month around the U.S. and in Africa, Moscow and China.

I, for one, hope that the writers don't make a movie more like the first Transformers. The first movie had way too many stupid humans and not enough robots.

I don't understand all the hate for Revenge of the Fallen, and the fact that it's still being pissed all over so long after it's release just leads me to believe that hating on that movie is just the cool thing to do.

It's a movie about giant alien robots who turn into Earth vehicles waging war against eachother. wtf are you looking for here? Sure, both of the movies could've done with a little less silliness, but it's not like Transformers is some super serious drama that has never had outrageous silliness in the past. Dare to be Stupid, anybody?

It's really starting to get as bad as the Star Wars grandpas whining about the prequels in here. Get over it. If you really can't let it go, then I'll happily direct you to the Revenge of the Fallen thread. There might be one or two other people there who still care about your opinion there.

Personally, what I hated the most was the over-the-top stupidity and toilet humor... not because I have anything against it... but I honestly believe it DOESN'T belong in Transformers.
The Cartoons and Comics (a.k.a. The Source Material) were never THAT stupid... maybe cheesy, kiddie or whatever, but never to the level of stupidity displayed by humans and the Twins in this movie... Seriously I'm not expecting anything Oscar worthy, but sure as hell I don't expect humor from Meet the Spartans or Epic movie in Transformers, that's for sure...

The effects were amazing, the action, the explosions... but I couldn't stand the humor.. it was pathetic.

And now, seems like the world will end in 2011... not 2012 :lol:lol:lol

Apparently he was supposed to be TF1 and TF2 but Hasbro didn't approve of the way his character was portrayed so he was scrapped. They'll probably call him Rodimus since that was the new take with the last TF cartoon...

I see a lot of hate for the human characters in the TF fandom.... It isn't the humans that made ROTF such a disappointment - it was the stupid humor and pointless characters like Leo (human) and the twins (two ROBOTS).

ROTF isn't as bad as people make it out to be, and people know how much I am into my movies and how I like quality. Sure, it had a lot of "wtf?" moments, but nothing that was far off from the source material. What can I say, Michael Bay is the right man for the job. Albeit, the 86 movie was pretty good. But that was night and day from the 84-87 G1 television series.

That is BS. You might as well say that Joel Schumacher did an excellent job with Batman Forever and Batman & Robin because the old TV show was campy as hell. Just because the original cartoon wasn't well written or animated does not in any way excuse the movie's own shortcomings, especially since the movies only have a few things in common with the cartoon as it is.

No way in hell is Bay the right man for the job either. He knows how to make ____ blow up good and how to show off cars, but that's where it ends. The real right man for the job is Spielberg, IMO. He was responsible for some of the best moments in the first movie, and you can really tell that he was barely involved with the second one.

I liked the first Transformers, it was a really fun movie. The second one didn't do much for me. Alot of the humor in it seemed to juvenile for my tastes. But I'll still go see the third in hopes that its entertaining. If not, its a fun way to waste a couple hours.

Ok, so excuse me if any of this has been said in the last few pages but, M Bay is now trying to invest in G1 homage to save his *** & put a wrap on this franchise. Bay has stated the 3rd installment will be more of a pre-quel......LAME! If its not turning our heros in to kids, then its stinking up the franchise with a bunch of prequels.....which all to often turn out to be about kid heros. Any way Bay is gonna do a type of prequel. & dude is not fooling any body!! this is a cloaked REBOOT!! Now....that the toys are clogging pegs & shelves.....now the boob is willing to abandon that GAWD AWFUL robot design in favor of something more G1 inspired.

There has also been talk of a red Ferrie (or how ever you spell it). THANK GAWD!! GM wasn't all bad. It gave us some cool designs, but the lack of diversity just SMACKED of car cammerical. The irony is if GM had more faith in its vehicles & not monopolize the film it would have gone over much better at a selling point. But the way they went just made you constantly feel like GM vehicles are being shoved down your effing throats.

If I had to give Bay any advice (& trust me he needs it), i'd ditch the long nose cab for prime & give him his trailer. It dosent have to be a factory spec cab from any exsisting car maker. it can be a totally new concept design. The real power & might of Optimus Prime comes from his CONVOY form.

Also his lil drunk *** incest star (oh yes honey you should have read the things he said he wanted to do to his mother & how she raised him....YUCK), but his golden boy "Sam" is finially gonna have to play 2nd fiddle to the Bots. Now I don't know if any of this is gonna help cause SOOOOO MUCH damage has been done interms of continuity, character development, script, & endless plot holes. But with a forgiving audiance...(& judeing from how every one says they "LOVED" Iron Man 2, then I'd say its a safe bet that todays movie goers & more than forgiving), but with a forgiving audiance, Anime style toon.....brb

still working off the PDA. Any way like I was saying. If they get a G1 80ies theam toon like G.I. Joe Resolute, new up dated G1 style bot forms like the classics line for the movie, & a script that really makes the Bots come to life & establish themselves as individuals.....well hell there just might be hope for Bay's TFs after all.

Oh yeah!! & I hope that nim rod learned his lesson the 3rd time around! he killed the only black bot, that is after making him sound like he moon lights as a drive by vehicle for the Crypts or Bloods. & in the 2nd he had black bots illiterate with gold teeth & talking like they moon light as the truck that get loaded with the days Cotten bails from the PLANTATION!

Cosmos (I know I know some say he is'nt spanish, but I beg to differ), Cosmos was one of my Favorite Autobots! But don't ruin the moment with him beating on RC with Spanish music play in the back ground just cause Bay feels a good laugh would go good here because the script is too flat & boring & can't come up with anything that makes the plot more interesting.

What the ____ are you talking about? Bay never said that TF3 would be a prequel, or that the bots would be more G1ish. The ILM staff did say that they would update some of the robot designs, but only slightly, no major revamps.

Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dollhouse) has joined the cast of Transformers 3 according to thewrap. While the studio is keeping the story and his character under wraps, I’m hoping Michael Bay is going to use him in a fun role and not something dark and serious. Because if you’ve seen his work on Firefly, you know that’s the type of role he’s great in.

He has appeared on the bigscreen in "3:10 to Yuma," "Knocked Up" and "Dodgeball," and most recently toplined "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil," which won the Audience Award at this year's SXSW Film Festival. MEGAN FOX NOT RETURNING FOR TRANSFORMERS 3

Earlier this month, Megan Fox was spotted doing previz shots for Transformers 3, but now Variety is reporting that she will not appear as Mikaela in the third installment after all.

Paramount Pictures reportedly decided not to pick up her option as the studio and director Michael Bay want to take the story line in another direction and plan to cast another actress as the love interest for Sam Witwicky, played by Shia LaBeouf. The trade says the decision "was unrelated to a September interview with a British magazine in which Fox compared Bay with Adolf Hitler."

The third installment is scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2011.

Shia didnt bad mouth anyone. Just the movies. Which isnt the same. He still likes working with Bay, he just didnt think the movie was as good as it could be. So did Bay. He didnt bash SS neither, he just said the movie wasnt working as well as it should've. Which it didnt work as well as it should've. (I still liked it...but yeah)

(PEOPLE.com) -- Megan Fox is seeking to transform rumor to fact.

The actress is slamming speculation she was booted from the third installment of the "Transformers" action film franchise.

"Megan Fox will not be starring in 'Transformers 3'," reps for the actress, 24, tell PEOPLE. "It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best."

Citing unnamed sources, Variety reports the studio and the film's director, Michael Bay, intend to cast another actress as star Shia LaBeouf's love interest to move the story in a different direction.

Shooting for the film, slated for a July 2011 release, is expected to kick off this summer in locations across the U.S.

Fox, meanwhile, is prepping for the June 18 release of "Jonah Hex," an action film she stars in opposite Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Will Arnett.

Being honest with a boss works 99% of the time, even when what you are saying isnt what they wanna here.

I guess if you have a really horrible boss who cant hear the truth than kissing *** might be your only option, but if thats the case its probably somewhere you dont need to be working in the first place. I've been lucky I guess, cause I have never had to do it.

Megan Fox Quit "Transformers 3" Due to Michael Bay's Abuse

Michael Bay has stated several times that he wanted Megan Fox to return "Transformers 3," but it was just recently announced that the actress will not take part in the movie. Initial sources revealed that Bay wanted Shia LaBeouf's character to have a different love interest, but Fox claims that she was the one who decided to quit. So who's telling the truth?

According to The Wrap, Fox is telling the truth. The reason she walked away from the franchise is because Bay was "verbally abusive" toward her and "she had enough and decided to get out early."

This isn't the first time we've heard comments like this from Fox. She has spoken many times about how difficult it is to work with Bay, calling him "Hitler," adding that it's a "nightmare" to be on set.

The site learned that "Transformers 2" star Isabel Lucas also had issues with Bay, which is why she didn't join the rest of the cast for the publicity tour. And back during the filming of "Pearl Harbor," Kate Beckinsale complained about Bay as well.

It definitely seems that most of the complaints come from beautiful women. So is Bay crossing the line with them? Probably not, because most of the complaining from the actresses just sounds like whining. Fox's biggest issues with Bay is that he wanted her to be more tanned and do a few stunts that insurance wouldn't cover. Somebody needs to tell her about what Christian Bale did for "The Machinist" and the kind of stunts Jackie Chan does on a consistent basis.

Anthony Breznican has a new article on Transformers 3 titled “Next ‘Transformers’ is due for a switch” which mostly consists of director Michael Bay and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura explaining what went wrong with the previous installment, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (blamed mostly on the rushed schedule and writers strike). There are a few interesting bits about the newest film to be found in the article, here is a sample:

* Final confirmation that movie will be released in 3D. No word on if it will be shot in 3D or converted in post. Knowing Bay’s obsession with film, I’m assuming he agreed on a post process.
* The villain in Transformers 3 is “Shockwave, the robot cyclops-turned-laser-cannon, who became dictator of their home world of Cybertron after the other Autobots and Decepticons journeyed to Earth.” Makes sense.
* Bay claims “One thing we’re getting rid of is what I call the dorky comedy” adding the The Twins are “basically gone” but comic relief John Turturro returns. Bay’s “basically gone” comment seems to confirm that they have a short appearance in the film.
* In the new film Sam Witwicky is “taking his first tenuous steps into adulthood while remaining a reluctant human ally of Optimus Prime. “Shia has this great line: ‘You know, I’ve saved the world twice, but I can’t get a job.’” Okay, so Transformers is never gonna get a screenplay nomination at the Academy Awards.
* The plot also “delves into the space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA, suggesting there was a hidden Transformers role in it all that remains one of the planet’s most dangerous secrets. “The movie is more of a mystery,” Bay says. “It ties in what we know as history growing up as kids with what really happened.”
* Transformers 3 is the end of a trilogy. Bay says “As a trilogy, it really ends. It could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending.” It basically sounds like Bay is done with the series, and the ending of the movie is a finale of sorts.
* The film also features a set “built to resemble a dilapidated nuclear reactor.”
