View Full Version : What do you guys think of the Code 3 vehicles?

I saw in the "what have you bought?" thread that many are getting the new Code 3 stuff. I have been eyeing the new AT-ST a great deal since I saw pics. The Republic Gunship looks cool as well. I have heard that the older models (X-Wing, Falcon) are not nearly as good as the new ones. What do you think?

I've heard about all the new ones coming as well (AT-AT, Sandcrawler, Vader TIE, etc.) I'd like my curio display to have one shelf of GG dioramas, one shelf of Code 3 vehicles, and the other shelves full of SS figures. Oh yeah, and a sprinkling of the GG helms that are supposed to be coming out (where are they?). So what three of the Code 3 vehicles would you buy for one shelf? I'm thinking AT-ST, Vader TIE, and either Slave I or RGS.

Coming later this year. :rock

I like 'em, but I cannot afford to digress any further into another line. :( The RGS looks truly incredible.

GG has me...hook, line and sinker. :p :D

Those GG helms look great. They interest me much more than the LOTR helms. I guess they will be sculpted resin and not metal?

My first was the Slave I signature edition, still my favorite so far. I have the RGS and really like it as well. It is the first to include figures and I absolutely love looking at the RGS with Yoda standing on deck surveying everything. I must admit though that it would have been better if the figures were in a more dynamic pose instead of simply standing like little toy soldiers.

Just got XWing and Falcon over the weekend. Can't really say that their quality is inferior to the new ones and the Falcon is stunning, but still doesn't rival Slave I.

I know alot of people are criticising a change in the bases between the older ones and the RGS, but I don't really have any problems or concerns on the change.

I must warn you these can definitely be addictive. I intended to simply get the Slave I and eventually Falcon and that was it. Now I have four and will be all over the AT-AT and Sandcrawler, etc, etc.

Great Oxbeard. Another line for me to keep up with. :juggle

I'm not a completist by any means, and I'd like to get a sprinkling from each company. I'd hate to limit myself to one line. The only reason I'm not getting any GG statues (non-dioramas) also is because they would be out of scale with my Sideshow pieces. I would wait for awhile on Code 3, but the AT-ST has a 1500 ES, and won't be around long. What are the resale prices of these like on Ebay? Could I wait awhile and get them later? I have so much $$$ tied up in preorders right now.

None of the pieces have sold out yet. Not sure how many are left out there, but I know the earlier pieces had much larger ES. MF is 10,000, XWing I believe is 5000. The newer pieces are going to lower ES from the looks of things. Ordinarily I wouldn't expect them to sell out quick, but you never know with this being a new movie year.

I have noticed several retailers getting these now for good discounts off of Code3 prices. Not sure about eBay. I have gotten all of mine direct from Code3 in order to use payment plan, free shipping offers, free cases, etc.

If GG really go to town with these helms, the busts and the statues in the coming months, I will have to think hard about my LOTR helm collection. For a few years now I have wanted to collect Star Wars collectibles that weren't primarily targeted at children, i.e. the figures, and now I have found my niche in a way. It is a mouthwatering fact that there will be limitless possibilities for these busts, etc...and I want to take full advantage of them...even at the expense of my LOTR helm collection. Like many of my age group, Star Wars was an integral part of childhood life for many, and that passion has endured into the adult years.

Ah the GG helms I have picture of what they had out at SDCC last year right along the lines of the Weta helms as far as size goes. http://www.firesidecollectibles.com/eproducts/GGhelms.jpg

Great pics, Bob:eek

Looks like the TIE fighter pilot, Luke's helm, Gold Leader, Red Leader & Wedge's helm...I think. :drool The stands look great.

Helms are pretty cool.

Code 3 lacks the quality I personally look for so I passed on everything. The AT-ST looks ok though....

As I said in the other thread I just picked up the code3 Millennium Falcon after months of being severely tempted by it, in fact it arrived yesterday in a huge (and damn heavy!) box.

I must admit that in all honesty I really was quite reticent to throw down that much cash on one item because it is a big commitment, and never having seen one in person before I didn't know for sure if I'd truly be happy with it, or if it would live up to the hype or even my own expectations, but when they had a special deal on free shipping (which applied to international customers like me too, saving me around $60 US in the process!) I couldn't resist that and finally took the plunge, and I really am glad that I did. In fact now I'm just looking forward to getting the installments of this one paid off so that I can move on to grabbing the X-Wing or the Slave 1. :lol

Now I haven't seen the later pieces in question (apart from in pics), so I can't really compare them against each other, but just judging by the Falcon alone it's pretty much a dream come true for me. I've wanted a truly accurate and quality Millennium Falcon reproduction pretty much ever since the original film came out and I first fell in love with that 'piece of junk', and to this day it remains my favourite ship design in any film or tv show in any franchise, but though there were many various releases over the years I was personally never that happy or taken with any of them really for whatever reason. Some where okay, but none of them truly captured the detail and spirit of the Falcon for me, none of them (outside of a few really nice customs that I've seen over the years) ever quite did it justice for me and my tastes and so I never bothered to buy any of them, despite my love for the ship. But this code 3 version, this definitely did it for me, and though expensive it's worth every penny in my opinion, at least for this Falcon fanatic here anyhow. And it's just such a great display piece, that I can't stop staring at it. What can I say, I'm happy. :dance

As to why a few code 3 collectors seem to regard the Falcon as inferior, I honestly don't know why, but I suspect that in many cases it might well have less to do with the quality of the piece itself, and more to do with the fact that it was the first release, and so many of those collectors have owned this one the longest. And also because all of the ships are around the 13 inches long side of things, so therefore the Falcon, being a bigger ship than the likes of the X-Wing and Slave 1 in the movies, is captured in a smaller scale (it's represented in 1:80 scale) for it's 13 inches of length, whereas the X-Wing is 1:38 scale, even though the actual piece is basically the same size/length. Because of this some of the detail work is able to be finer and even more intricate in the other ships comparitive to the Falcon, just because scale wise they have a larger palate to work on. That's my theory anyway. :lol

Regardless, I love the hell out of the Falcon myself. Very satisfied and glad I bought it now. And I think the detail work and attention to detail is great. I'm nitpicky as hell, but even so I don't really have any nits to pick whatsoever with this piece, and certainly nothing even remotely significant.

If you love any of the ships or vehicles and like what you see on the site, and if you can afford to do so, personally I think it's well worth the plunge myself.

Actually just looking over at code 3's site it seems now that the Millennium Falcon is now marked as being "Currently Unavailable" so now I'm even more glad that I took the plunge during the April 1st free shipping promotion. Hate to think about not owning this piece as part of my collection now. :)

I have the RGS from Code 3 and I love it!! There is so much detail to it that it is amazing. The one thing about the Ship line is you can change the display of them. Have them inflight or on the ground, remove panels, move wings ect. Very cool!
The thing with the RGS display is that the base isnt made out of resin but wood and they gave it a felt top.
And another cool thing is they give you a booklet with the COA and Patch that is sealed in plastic. I have mine sit on top of the Acrylic case, I have to tell you these are museum quality pieces.
I want Slave 1 next!!
