Here we go again. :D

Now that we got LANDO, who's on deck?

Tarkin?

Greedo?

Snowtrooper?

Hoth rebel?

Hoth Leia?

Count Dooku?

Emperor?

BOBA FETT will be at SDCC, so don't bother calling that one.

And let's not get into the "Chewie - Droids" thing either.

The Craw

i'm guessing more troopers since this is the year of the armored figures. snowtrooper hopefully or tie pilot.

I hope for a Tarkin. I need him in 1/6 so I don't get tempted to buy him in PF.

snowtrooper hopefully or tie pilot.

SOLD and SOLD. For sure.

Snowtrooper, TIE pilot, Scout Trooper are definitely this year. But like Lando mixed it up, hopefully we'll get Tarkin before they move into trooper variations every month.

I'd really like to see Dooku or Yoda (which I'm not sure is going to happen). Armored wise I'd like see some of the Clone Commanders (Cody would be great) but I'd be tempted to get a snowtrooper or tie pilot.

03-08-2009, 06:29 PM
i'll agree about a snow trooper.............i just hope that ssc is reading about all the tweaks with the st and will take into account on future armor releases. i for one dont mind doing tweaks and adjustments because i find a lot of joy in doing so but i can sympathize with those that expect a figure out of the box that doesnt need modding.....

How about a Hoth Han with a really good head sculpt to replace the Bespin Han, or better yet a Return of the Jedi Han with a great head sculpt to once again replace the Bespin Han?

I'll say Greedo or Dooku. I'd really like Tarkin though.

Careful... :nono

I'm hoping for an alien (specifically an ANH cantina alien)--- Greedo or Hammerhead.

It's time for SSC to stop doing the comfortable at the 1/6 level and start to hit the ball out of the park as they seemingly are at the 1:1 level (Greedo, Bossk, and now Admiral Ackbar).

But it'll probably be another armoured trooper.

Yeah, knowing SS there probably will be a Tarkin figure. I know they already pretty much have Tarkin ready to go considering they only have to just do the head sculpt, but space these things out why don't ya..

I'd much rather SS do a rehash of Darth Maul since the last one sucked big time IMO. Hopefully they can get it right this time. Sith training any body? Maybe they can include the sith speeder or something.

03-08-2009, 08:22 PM
The only way you'll ever see another Sideshow Maul is if he's packed with the Sith Speeder or he's a conceptual, not Phantom Menace rendition, as far as Phantom Menace goes, the first figure between him and the expansion pack came with everything but his speeder.

Maul on the Pro body would rock though, poseable head/neck, good height to other figures.

Seeing him on the new body would be great but they still would need to make that head sculpt better. I'd also like to see him with his body tattos exposed.

The Sideshow headsculpt is pretty damn good. It's the paint that reduced the expression.

The Darth Maul figure sucked? Huh. I thought he was one of the best SS has put out so far.

SS messed him up IMO. Just because it's Maul doesn't make it there best. Medicom's got a superior version of Maul, but that could change if SS did a rehash of Maul perhaps. I happen to love Maul but I wouldn't pay $20 for the one SS made.

The SS Maul would be at the bottom of SS's list IMO. SS Old Ben is a better figure than SS Maul and I don't even like SS Old Ben that much, but I have him on my shelf because he has such a great likeness and SS Maul I don't have.

Give that the economy is not good at the moment, SS may decide to save and not release a couple figs that would have to be among their most expensive...and a Chewie would be more costly than a Vader due to the fur and whatnot...

If SS has any business savoy they would make figures that people really wanted. Its the only way to survive in these hard economic times. Boba, Chewie, Droids "C3 PO - D2D2", and other key figures would be best IMO. As a buyer I'm a bit more selective on the purchases I'm going to make.

Well I think SS has been making to many Luke, and Han for one I bet if the put one more of these out on the market it would flop. The Forced Unleashed ST, and ESP II Obi IMO was a bad idea, but all they did was put some paint on the ST and gave the Obi a new outfit. They may save some money but it not like people are beating the doors down for these figures. Not like the Vader, ST, and Lando.

Luke is always well covered by everyone. He's at the heart of the story so why wouldn't they but he could have been better balanced early on. Han they've only done two so I don't think he's been done too much. The FU Stormie was a mandate by LFL I would bet seeing as GG has a bust coming out of it as well. EP 2 Obi-Wan I don't think was a bad idea as its the main version of Obi-Wan from the film not the CW adapt of him. Obi-Wan did pretty well I think not sure if the regular is sold out but I believe the EX is so he sold well enough. Honestly, I dont think Lando would have sold as well if it was not for the ES on him.

If SS puts out another Luke its head scuplt better be great, if not its a waste of time unless you put it on a ST then you might get a good return. SS did better on the 2nd head sculpt on Han looks a lot better. I didnt get the Lando, I would have liked a ROTJ Lando. The one form Jabba's throne. But now that I know SS will do multiples of a charector I rather wait for something that I want, and save the money.

Dooku's outfit is very similar to Lando's... so you know he's coming within the next three announcements.

Let's analyze the last few announcements: Utapau dude, Han in Carbonite, blue Stormtrooper, Obi Ep 2, Piett, Sandtrooper and Lando.

The last three have been OT, so it might be time for a PT character. That said, it's been a long time since we had an alien.

They could shock us all with Nute Gunray.

Ditto above!

But if SSC releases Dooku aka Tyranus (sp?) it would be part of the Lords of the Sith line. I know dumb question but Vader/Sith line will be shipping April or May.

I don't think SSC will go w/another Sith character just yet w/Vader's popularity. I hope for ATOC Ani too. But I'm still guessing some Scum & Villianary character. Maybe from a certain bar room. Sorry to be repetitive...:peace

If Boba Fett is due for SDCC, it would be cool to see some other bounty hunters this year. Bossk would be the most obvious choice, but 4LOM or Zuckuss would work too. I think a Snowtrooper is a given before the end of the year. So is Dooku.

I have no idea what could be next. Cody would make a lot of sense (even if I'd rather see Bly).

Being in my 20's, I grew up watching the OT--not the PT. So of course I have a bias toward the original puppet Yoda, which to my eyes, still looks more realistic than the CG incarnation.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2ihtpxg.jpg

That being said, OT Yoda merits ample articulation just as much as the PT Yoda. He might not have been doing backflips and sommersaults, but hey, he still feigned fear by covering his eyes from Luke's blaster, crawled on all fours while rummaging through Luke's stash, ate a hot dog, fought R2 with his walking stick over a flashlight, cooked up some Jedi stew, piggybacked Luke during his training exercises, and carried a multi-ton X-wing with the wave of his hand. :D

I think we definitely need to see a long string of core characters and no rehashes. The economy is forcing most to be extremely selective. They can slip in a rehash between every 4-5 new figures.

Since they did say their main focus in 2009 was armored figures, I think we're due for an AOTC Clone Trooper. With potentially a sergeant or officer announced at SDCC (if not the Blackhole Trooper). Ideally though, with the economy the way it is, they should offer a 3-pack including Officer, Sergeant and grunt like they did with the Rebel Troopers. If they don't sell, they can easily break them up at a later date.

Keeping in mind that this is a prediction thread and I'm not discussing what I'd like to see? Best guess:

Two years ago, we saw a lot of Jabba's palace stuff.
1. Throne.
2. Jabba.
3. Creature packs.
4. Bib Fortuna
5. And Leia as Boussh started it all.

Last year, we saw announcements for the Episode IV opening scene:

1. Vader
2. Stormtroopers
3. Rebel Fleet Trooper
4. Captain Antilles
5. And Commander Praji started it all...

This year (in addition to armored figs), it feels like they're gearing up for a Bespin year. Think about it:

1. Han in Carbonite
2. Lando
3. Stormtroopers (re-usable)
4. And Bespin Luke and Han started it all.

So I'm looking for any of the following:

1. Bespin Leia
2. Lobot
3. Boba Fett mos' def' by SDCC
4. Bespin Guard

With the exception of Fett, any of these would be easy and cheap to create. Not much involved with any of the rest, so production costs could be kept to a minimum.

If it is prequels again then something armoured like a 501st or Shocktrooper.

03-12-2009, 04:16 PM
The Snow Trooper makes the most business sense.

1. It is in high demand having never been done by anyone in high-end 1:6 scale.

2. The chest armour +plus an officer's uniform (already made for Piett) makes for a General Veers release with more limited development costs for Sideshow.

3. The chest armour is also part of Dengar if I recall correctly.

I hope someone at Sideshow thinks along these lines.

Odowankenobi

Boba would be great if they keep with the ESB theme... my guess is they will release something for SDCC able to take on Vader and Stormies. Fett wouldn't do it on his own, but him and Jango might do it.

Will Sideshow ever get to 12-inch versions of such “iconic” classic trilogy characters as Luke in his X-Wing outfit, Greedo, Tusken Raider, or even, should the company feel much more adventurous (i.e. beyond new head, hands or armor that is), definitive 12-inch scale version of characters such as C3PO, “enslaved” Leia or even Chewbacca? Vader and Stormtrooper were a huge relief to see after lots of prequel Jedi and fairly-cool-but-obscure militaries guys; does this signal that Sideshow will be doing more iconic classic trilogy characters soon?

Without getting too specific, several of the characters you mention are on tap for the 12-inch line. We are intent on releasing the core characters, interspersed with the more interesting and fan-favorite ancillary characters. We hope to keep the line ‘fresh’ for many years to come - not simply blast out all of the main characters in one shot!

This was taken from sideshow answers today!:emperor

Our Star Wars 12-inch line is going strong, and the armored characters will continue. Boba Fett is not in the immediate line-up, but is definitely a character that we’re working on. Similar with the Rebels (pilots) from “A New Hope”, outside of the Fleet Trooper and Antilles - they’re on our radar, but not in the immediate list.

Guess right. :(

If they are going to make another female character it better be Mara Jade.

Not sure if anyone pointed it out but in the last ask sideshow a few possiblities of upcomming figures were somwhat sugested.

From those that were listed in the question Greedo and the Tusken have been asked about around here for awhile now kinda like lando had been so I see them being very likely. I also asked in the stormtrooper section if anyone else thought that 3PO might not be to far off now that we have the armor body?

I'd love 3PO but think he will be on his own unique body. If anything I think we will see the Tusken and Greedo soon. If we do see the droids it will probably be at SDCC (but again, I doubt it).

Damn...thats a hard question.

Tusken, Biker Scout I seeing coming by the years end...SDCC Exclusive, usually Sideshow goes PT (2006 Anakin - Vader, 2007 Darth Sidious, 2008 Aayla)...I gotta go with TPM Obi, if OT - Greedo...

Well I think there still a bit of a long shot myself but more cause of R2 now then 3PO. As for him needing his own unique body I'll agree to disagree there I think if used right it could represent most of the version we see on film of 3PO. Most likely if they do him anytime soon it'll be an Ep.IV version which would only need the arm modified to be removed kinda like anakin to duplicate the tusken attack. Ep.V on the otherhand would need a compleatly difrent body if wanted to make a version of him could be blasted apart but cause of the way he spent most of the film I could see sideshow opting to do that as just a torso articulated at the shoulder and head to go in the net bag on Chewies back and the legs and other arm being done as static peices that way no need for an entire articulated body.

Anyway Greedo and the Tusken are still my bets as well. The other 3 listed in the question are no go's for obvious reasons chewie and leia are long ways off due to fur and decent female body and as for an x-wing luke... um no thanks my shelf has enough for the time being unless it's a trooper Luke & Han two pack otherwise I can wait a year or so for another version of him.

I say, Hot Toys does a R2-D2 with lights and opening panels and Sideshow does the Threepio with light up eyes..it comes as a set like Palpatine did and its a colaboration again by Sideshow/Hot Toys..definitely think this is a good idea..starting at $150.

Maybe add a magnetic restraining bolt for both as a exclusive, or net for Threepio(assuming we get Chewie)...just some ideas.

I have never understood why people have believed Sideshow will never produce 3PO and R2. I boggles my mind that people believe a company would pay for a license and not produce some of the main characters. :google

Its not a question of "if" they will but "when" they will.

Because they can't right now.

Neither of those figures (or Chewie) fits into the profile of their 1:6 business model.

Sure, the armored troops and Vader didn't either until this year, but while it took 3-4 years for them to do those they're still not as much of a stretch as the droids & chewie would be for Sideshow. I love SSC, but I think the R&D, engineering and QC on these would be beyond their current capacity. They definitely should solicit Hot Toys for assistance on those, if they haven't already.

1978 here, and while a staunch supporter of the theory OT>PT, I'd still pick Dooku over a Raider. Dooku, while underutilized, was a cool character... and Lee kicks all kinds of ass :rock

I will agree with that... especially when I think of the nostalgia of the Kenner figures. But, for now Dooku does play a more important role overall.

IrishJedi

Part of my problem is that I'm now much more of a purist and refuse to subscribe to notion that any characters from Lucas' painfully contrived PT are more "important" than anything from the OT.

And, admittedly, I like Dooku too and probably for the same main reason (Christopher Lee as a diplomatic Sith). But if you remove Lee how cool is the character really?

My answer.. When I think of Star Wars I think "Anakin and Luke". Everything else is only an appendage of those two by association. On that totem pole of that thought (if you understand what I mean), Dooku definitely comes before a Tuskan Raider.
