Okay here's a question, I've never read any of these comics, apart from the odd issue of Star Wars Tales that happened to have a story by a particular writer in them, and as such I was just wondering, what's worth tracking down and reading as far as Dark Horse's expanded universe comics go? Which ones do you guys consider recommended or essential reading, and what is best avoided? Or are none really worth the effort?
Been curious about this for a good long while now, so any and all opinions on this appreciated. Cheers. :D

Great books. The storylines all need to be pre-approved by Lucas' people so that they fit into the SW universe. I would suggest that if you're getting into it at this late stage, that you try to pick up one of the collected graphic novels or maybe pick up a run off EBay for a good price. A good place to start is with the "Dark Empire" set of 6 books or the GN version. If you like that, then try some others.
Dark Horse has a complete listing of their books on their site.

THe Star Wars Republic series is great, as it only gained that term (Repblic) after Attack of the Clones, it was just Star Wars. This series is in line with the current prequels.
Star Wars Empire takes place around the Original Trilogy, in bewteen the epsidos. The art is not as dynamic but the stories are great.
I believe Star Wars infinities is done, but the trade is great to have as it gives alternate decisions from the Original Trilogy for example, what if Han had stayed in Carbon Freeze to long, or Leia helped kill the emperor....
Not sure where they are gonna go now, but I would love to see a series based on Luke Skywalker's attempt to reestablished the Jedi Order, and his walk on the Darkside under the influence of a Palpitine Clone...
