He's great, I was hoping for Batman or Flash - but this will go really well with Superman. Since it was supposed to be 4 heroes first, I'm hoping this means that the line is successful and expanding.

Wow. Kind of a surprise. Superman is coming as planned ( It was in Previews for October or November 2005) as is GL, but I'd swear they announced Batman at SDCC and a fourth "mystery" hero. Maybe not.
Lex is too tall but otherwise pretty darned cool. I'm not sorry to see him. It's just going to be sad if we don't see comic version Batman. I hope the cruddy "Batman Begins" figure wasn't the Batman they meant.
I was hoping for and remember speculation the fourth figure was going to be Wonder Woman. Dave said the hot rumour was "The Flash" at Comic Con and I guess it made sense that they might not do a female figure in this first round of characters. Still was pulling for that one though. The first three characters should really have been the DC "Trinity".
And again I agree with everyone who feels the figures (with the exception of Superman) are too tall. I wish they had done a "big Guy" body and a smaller one. Oh well. I'll be getting all of them anyway. I'm a sucker for a pretty superhero toy. Or supervillian.

I spoke directly with George Brewer at SDCC - he said no females until they knew the line was viable. I'd heard Batman and Flash were next, but he wouldn't confirm or deny that.

Geez, I hope it will be viable. I want every character in the DCU and I think Superman and the others better be real popular if I'm going to get my silver age "Captain Comet" and the worlds second greatest superhero, Rex "Tick Tock" Tyler, the man of the hour (or the "Hour of power"), Hourman!
Yeah, I tend to like, shall we say, less main stream characters ( I'm a fan of the mainstream heroes too). I'm digging all the "Infinite Crisis" lead-ins and tie-ins right now. Fan boys dream.

Why, in my day, Luthor was fat and wore a lab coat like any self-respecting mad scientist, and we liked it!
Oh well, at least he's in his battlesuit from the Action Comics 544 makeover, and not in a suit and tie. DCD's Silver Age Superman Series 1 Luthor action figure is more Old Man FrankenFan's speed.
I'm glad to see Superman's shield looking better but, what's up with the belt loops on his briefs? And those boots? But, gee whiz, poor Clark —*would someone get Greg Mowry on the phone? I was really looking forward to this figure. Now, not so much.
GL's looking really great, however. Love the snap-on mask and light-up Power Battery!

This is the Luthor I remember, although I prefer the businessman character (it wouldn't have made an interesting figure though).
I was surprised to see his shield without the black lines - I asked specifically about that too and was told it was difficult to screenprint without the lines. But the boots and belt loops do look pretty tragic. I'm still psyched about this guy, but my expectations are lower.

Now if DC can only give their Vertigo characters this kind of treatment. Or Sign on the Dotted line and let Sideshow do them.

Superman's belt loops are pretty "whack" but I imagine they can be fixed. Not that you should have to.
GL does look good. Pretty much exactly what we have been seeing and that's good enough for me.
Maybe Clark's suit can be used on Lex for those who prefer the new and improved Luthor. But as a toy I like the seventies look he comes with. Very "Secret Society of Supervillians".

Oops! I meant to write, "Oh well, at least he's not in his battlesuit from the Action Comics 544 makeover...
By the way, wasn't the costume from the seventies purple and green?

Lex is not at all what I was expecting. I guess the larger size of the figures will work well with all the others. I'm not much of a Superman aficionado but I always liked the Idea of a very rich business man that is so popular and charismatic that Superman can't expose him for what he really is.
I'm loving the Green lantern but I wish he came with two heads so that the mask looks flush against his skin and not a thick plastic piece that fits onto his face.
Supe's shield looks so much better, but his costume could've been tailored better.
And the new Green Lantern series 2 and Elseworlds series 2 figures look great!

Not that impressed really, though if they are doing villains, and if the line continues, I will now be hoping for a Brainiac.

Yay :) It's the Lex I know from my youth; he looks great all garbed up in the traditional comicbook colours of villainy - brings back the happy nostalgia of Mego's Pocket Heroes Lex. Plus he's a well executed figure too...
But 13", same height as their Supes? Thhhpt. There goes any chance of displaying him on my 'shelf of evil' with assorted 1/6th scaled badness... and as I don't have the space to start displaying a new line of 13" scaled figures so I'm afraid DCD won't be getting my cash. Well, perhaps one when they're being sold off cheap so I can do a Hellboy body swap but otherwise ain't got the money or space to give to a new big figure scale.

I just got finished up at my local comic book store and much to my surprise the 13" Lex Luthor arrived today. I have not cracked him out of the box yet, but from what I can see he looks much better than I originally thought he would.
Esp. since he cost $59.99.

I thought he looked much better than I expected too, DK. I was pretty happy when I saw him today. Not as pinheaded as I thought he was going to be. His body is still way massive, but this is the body were getting and that's it. I like the costume, and his pistol and holster are pretty neat. Overall a nice figure.

The DC 13 are the only collectibles I don't get mail order because I have to have them the same day. So after work I tottle down to Golden Apple where I've gotten all the others on release day, including the very popular Superman. But they were SOLD OUT! I was so perturbed I didn't pick up the few token books I'd selected.
Guess it's mail order after all...

I've had to resort to mail order on the 13" DC Direct line as well! The comic shops don't order many of them and they sell out quickly! My Lex should arrive on Monday as I already received a shipping notice from Alter Ego Comics.

I just saw the figure at my local comic shop yesterday, but all I could afford buying was the newest $10.00 Corgi Batmobile :( . Anyway, I guess I've finally gotten over the shock of the large DCD body (I have Supes and GL), and despite of it, Luthor looked very appropriate in his silver age outfit. The sculpt looked really cool, with clear, penetrating eyes lending a look of authority about Luthor without the need for a frown or scowl, finishing off the figure's formidable and impressive appearance. Afterall, he was a muscle bound person just like any other key character in a comic book!
I just finished watching Superman the Movie on DVD, which reminded me of the Lex Luthor figure I had when that movie came out:
http://www.toyfanatic.com/images/mego/luthor12.jpg
I guess Gene Hackman, Luthor's then-trademark duds, and Mego's MO to give villains a skinnier body than the heroes (a Brando-esque Jor-El was buffed like Supes, wheras Zod was slight-bodied like Luthor) resulted in a curious combination. Sadly, I ended up modifiying my Luthor figure into the Unknown Soldier with some Liquid Paper and a marker.

Love the Apple! Used to live in the hood, two blocks south of Melrose but yeah, their inventory for figures is understandably tight with only so much shelf space so I'm not surprised.

I had to resort to eBay for Superman and the Batman Begins figures, but was able to get Green Lantern and Superman Returns from online stores. Now I have them all pre-ordered from CornerStore, except for Shazam...just can't bring myself to get him. I would highly recomend CornerStore if you're looking to go the mail order route. They have great pre-order prices and seem to get the figures out really quick, I got my Lex from them yesterday.

If you want any kind of customer service and/or timely delivery - don't go with DCBS - I know some people swear by them, and the prices can't be beat, but it's not worth the headaches.
And did you see the new head on Shazam Rockabilly? He's shaping up as my favorite of the bunch.

Those are some pretty good prices, but CornerStore has been good to me. To me if a company or person treats me good, I'll do business with them even if they are a little higher.
Nice pic there Rockabilly!! The DC 13" line has become one of my favorites!

I haven't seen the new head and to be honest that had nothing to do with me not getting him in the first place. It was more the fact that I have no idea about the actual character himself. I'll probably end up getting him anyway, usually when I collect a line I end up becoming a completist.

I received my LEX Friday from ALTER EGO COMICS, and I'd definitely recommend Marc & Co. if you want to pre-order the upcoming releases. Great prices, and unbelievable service: the figure was released Wednesday, and I had it 2 days later! I have all the announced releases pre-ordered, and I'll second what Dave says about the CAPTAIN MARVEL/SHAZAM figure: with the new head sculpt, I think it'll be my favorite of the bunch.

Would you care to elaborate on what problems you might have had Dave, or are eluding to? I have only experienced their delays.
I have to agree with you Rockabilly. Stick with them. A regular customer should be given special care. I am glad you are happy with them.

Thanks for the pics Rockabilly. Man I can not wait to get this figure on Tuesday. I don't care what anybody says I love DCD's 13'' line as much as SST Star Wars's line. Both are the main points in my collection.
Rockabilly, I feel the same way about buying stuff. My LCS has always been good to me for the past 7 years. While at times I feel like pre-ordering online for certain things, I can't bring my self to do that to Ken and Russ.

They won't ship until about 2 weeks after something's released. They will cancel items in your order and not tell you about it, which can be frustrating if it's sold out by the time you find out they aren't sending it.

Thanks Dave, duly noted.
I have only purchased three of the 13 inch figs so far, so I guess if they cancelled one, I would know because my whole shipment would have been cancelled. That hasn't happened, fortunately. I wonder if they look after their overseas customers better than their locals to avoid more messy problems. If anyone has any further comments I would appreciate any feedback.
I do think this line stands out from the rest of my collection, not just because of its out of step scale either, and even though the cut joints look terrible under tight super hero costumes.

Thanks for the pics!! Lex looks good. :)
I still haven't bought any of the DCD 13" figures. The scale problem really is a turn off to me. The few Medicom figures I have just look horrible cause of their scale problem but a 13" figure would look really bad IMO. Too bad cause I'm a diehard DC fan. :monkey2
I might bite on the Batman and Two Face figures though. I'm too big of a Batman fan to pass those up. What to do????

I've had trouble with DCBS as well. Almost missed out on the DCD 13" Green Lantern because of them. I preordered the figure, but they didn't receive enough stock to cover their preorders, and I was in backorder limbo for over a month. I'd gotten fed up prior to then, but they don't allow you to cancel orders. So I was in a bind. Luckily they finally cancelled and I found one in stock for a less than ideal price.
I'll never use them again.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I got bored the other day and decided to throw the Deluxe 13" Superman Clark Kent suit on Lex. I personally like it better than the 70's battle suit, but I'm thinking about changing the head over to a Hot Toys body, then finding a better suit. Just thought I'd share:

Thats cool...President Luthor! I really would like to focus more on the line, but I've missed out on enough that I feel catching up would be a pain. I have the original GL though, so I wouldn't have to worry about that one.

Really he's the only pain! GL is the hardest to find. The Supes version 1 is easier to get ever since the second one came out, and I think a lot places still have the majority of them in stock.
That Lex looks pretty cool, BTW!

I had to make a 45 minute drive to get him. All of the other comic shops were sold out, and the farthest shop still had one on the shelf. I asked him to hold it for me as I was on my way (literally on the road) and he said sure. I get there and it was still on the shelf  The mutant employee was nervously like "oh..uhh yeah there it is". Couldn't be bothered to walk two feet from around the counter I guess.
I actually also picked up the first Supes a while back (but wish I would have gotten it when Tower.com had them on clearance for $40!). I was really interested in collecting this line from when it was announced, so I tried my best to keep up at first. I think I fell behind with Martian Manhunter and Aquaman.
