View Full Version : Most Dead On Star Wars Character Made Into a Statue or Bust

Hi Everyone,

In your opinion, what do you think is the most dead on accurate resemblance of a Star Wars Character made into a collectible? It can be a 3 Inch figure (which we all know isn't the case), any Toy, Statue, Bust, etc.

In my opinion I think the Attakus Salacious Crumb Statue (Salacious by Himself), is identical to Salacious Himself after watching the DVD and pausing it. Incredible, dead on resemblance.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Mike

From those busts that I currently own, I'd have to say the deluxe stormtrooper is perhaps the most accurate representation of that character. Infact, I'd even so far as to say that the Boba bust is up there, too.

The problem for me is when you have to reproduce fur or human features, the creatures generally are ok (Chewy can be rough sometimes) but robots etc, are always a safe bet.

Gaz do you have the Boba bust? I dont have it but from the looks of it, it looks to be one awesome bust!
I need to get me a Stormtrooper deluxe bust.

Looking at that statue of Crumb, I really hope GG go ahead with their plans for making a bust of him. :eek

The GG Boba Fett bust is great.

The Vader II Attakus statue is superb as well. Maul Attakus is dead on.

Humans are tough but the Sideshow pieces look promising so far...

Viking, yep, he's definitely one of, if not, the best bust they've released thus far. Vader is probably in the running for that accolade.

Well I guess I'll place him on my list as one to try and find.

How do you guys like Grand Moff Tarkin the likeness looks pretty good from pictures?

Boba and Vader are the ones to really aim for if you've yet to get them, along with the clone troopers; those will shoot up in value when the new guys emerge IMO. Already the red and blue ones are easily fetching $300+ on eBay.

I will be able to answer that question about Tarkin when mine arrives from Mike in the next few days.

Tarkin coming from Bob along with Greedo, which looks pretty dead on too! :banana

Greedo is well done from GG. I like the Legends 3D Bust better myself. It's much bigger than the GG and they include a flyer with the bust which shows you how it was made. Pretty cool how they used spikes for the back of Greedo's head. I have to scan it and upload it for you to see.

I agree that the human characters are much harder to create than the driods/troopers. Attakus did a real poor job on the Luke X-Wing Statue. Everything about the statue is awesome except Luke's face (Yuk). Hopefully the Luke Jedi statue will be better.

A couple items recently have been really amazing. The Sandtrooper on Dewback just blows me away everytime I see it. Also it is just easier like has been stated to make a character doesn't have a human face. I think the Dooku bust is good as well as the Grandmoff by GG. I also have to say I was very impressed by the Sideshow Han Solo even before they tweaked it when it was at SDCC last year.

Ditto, but I think the hardest statues to reproduce are, like someone mentioned before the human ones, you can see the sculpting talent of a company by analyzing their human faces, the non-humans, like boba, stormtroopers, robots, etc are easier to sculpt. These are some examples of human faces that I think are very well done:

- Grand Moff Tarkin Bust
- Count Dooku Bust
- Luke bust

I am still kicking myself on the whole Stormtrooper/Dewback statue, I saw one at Disneyland of all places for $249, granted that's retail - but a good price for what they are now! :thud

Well perhaps the reason most of the non-human characters work better is that they either come from CG work to begin with, or they are easier to scan as masks, etc. :dunno

I am jazzed to get the Grand Moff bust though, and I have the Luke X-Wing which isn't too bad. Question though for those who have the SDCC Luke/stormtrooper bust, it looks like the exact same head as the X-wing bust, is this so?

Still trying to track me down a Greedo, I have had amnay a helping hand thru board members's but something always happens ( Thanks anyway Greedo, one of these days lol) I'm cursed with those damn things ... :P So anyone still having one PM ME!!! lol

I have to say the Boba Bust is amazing and so is the Legands Boba...dead on is so hard.... Anything GG has done that is not a human charactor has been dead on in my take of them.

Vader is amazing and the Storm Trooper's just rock

The Han Stormtrooper is very good. The Luke pilot is also very good from the front, but there is something not quite right when you look at it from the side. BTW the detail on this bust is exceptional. Highly recommended and still available at retail or better.
The best ever is the Boba Fett. It's amazing. A close second is the Vader.

I think that non-humans are fairly easy to reproduce, so I won't count those. For the human sculpts, I think that the Sideshow Han Solo is truly amazing. It blows me away every time I look at it. I think it's going to skyrocket in price once it's released later this year.

Yeah, the Greedo 1:1 and Maul 1:1 are pretty amazing too, but some say Maul loses points for his eyes.

Where is some love for General Grievous. I personally dont think there is anything that doesn't look right. I watched his parts a few times once I got it and looks great to me. I could be wrong since I am no where near as picky as some others are. As long as it looks good and nothing to far off I'm happy.

I think that's a great pick. While I am not a fan of the character ( in the movie ) and don't own the piece, I think SS did a superb job on him.

I wasn't either then at Comic Con I couldn't keep from going back to look at it. Then they say they have some, I resist, I go and look again, I resist, this continued maybe 3 time for first 2 days, then I broke down.

You have to have Human and non-human in seperate classes because when replicating in a sculpt they are worlds apart. It is ifinitely easier to reproduce a sculpt of somthing that you only have a very brief reference of rather then a form in which you see about 99% of your life. On human sculpts you notice even the slightest little flaw where as droids or other nonhumans you dont.

Human - Obi Wan SS PF followed by the GG Qui Gon bust
Non Human - Grievous followed by Boba both SS PF

I will third this oppinion. They are both amazing. The likeness on Obi is going to be what we compare all future SW PF's to.

And Kit, you'll be getting a Grievous by the end of the year I bet.

As much as I love my Maul bust, easily the center piece of my collection, there is just something about that Obi sculpt that is amazing. The human likeness is so hard to capture and they just nailed it.

Well as I stated earlier my gf looked at Obi-Wan and said it didnt really look like him but then again she only seen Star Wars once and probably identifies Ewan more with Obi than Alec. I would say with out a doubt it is PF Obi-Wan.

GG Tarkin bust is one of my fav's. Their Maul bust is right up there too.

Of course Mat's Alec/Obi is on the top of my list too, and you can't get more dead-on than the SS 1:1 busts imo... Especially Greedo and Yoda. :rock

SS PF Obi seems the best human statue...I don't own any PFs
Attakus R2D2 to me is the best droid representation with the weathering
Attakus Tusken Raider is the best non human statue so far
Also the SS Greedo bust looks good but don' t own it
GG has a lot of very good human and non-human busts but don't collect them

Far from the best.

Look at his chin, it is too square while the Anakin in the picture has a rounded chin.

Figuremaster Les's repaint blows this away.

I don't think it's fair to compare human likenesses with machinery likenesses.

Obviously, helmets and droids are more precisely quantifiable and replicable than the human face.

And, I don't think our eyes pick up the subtleties on an alien face the way our brains have been trained to do with humans.

Yeah,I see the chin, but I also see the huge rounded chin on the production SS Anakin and plus the fact that the SS Anakin doesn't look like him.Les's repaint is sweet, but he did alter the chin.I know it is unfair to compare this figure to SS's because it is a custom, but I love all of the little details that were added on this figure like the real leather boots, the magnets in the boots, the cordless light up saber, etc. The customizer really paid attention to detail and I think he really captured the essence of the character.

As far as a production piece goes I think Andy's sculpt for the premium format Han Solo is about as good as it gets, the production paint is not even in the same league as the sculpt though.

WOW! I really like this shot. Awesome work!

As for who is the most dead on character made into a statue or bust, it doesn't get better than 1:1. As great as many of the smaller pieces are, 1:1 is where its at. For me, it's a no brainer that the Greedo bust is the most dead on with Maul a very close second:
