That's fine, but I'm not seeing it based on what the company has used to promote it. Not even using Irish's rope-jumping method. What I've seen doesn't even justify a matinee or discount theaters price. Potentially down the line when it's all but free via a Blockbuster monthly pass. That way if it sucks, I can stop it mid way through, pull it out of the player and take it back to exchange for something better.

They could slap: UN Peace Force on this movie in a heartbeat, remove the Arashikage symbols from Snake Eyes and his weapons, and nobody would ever know that it was a G.I. Joe movie. You can't do that with Transformers. But this flick, yes. That's how far they've strayed from the very essence that IS G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. That's why it sucks. And as if to add insult to injury, they're aiming this movie at the G.I. Joe hardcore fans, in just about every way they've promoted it. It'd be a different story if they were marketing it to the Twilight and the WB/CW/Mtv tweens, but they're not. They're marketing it at everyone who has a deep fondness for the figures we grew up with.

As a kid, I always had him assassinated by Storm Shadow and had Destro overthrow Cobra Commander and take over with the Baroness at his side. I never quite understood why the coolest looking villain was only the weapons supplier.

In the cartoon, certainly. But in the Hama comics Destro was a pretty damn cool cucumber who always seemed to be a step or two ahead of Cobra Commander and the Joes. It seemed like he could take over anytime he wanted... he was just too calculating and even somewhat honorable to do it. Plus, all he really cared about was getting his and banging Baroness anyway. This is a man who gets it. :rock

This movie has everything going for it. Every design choice we've seen so far has been pitch perfect. This is just how we've been imagining Cobra Commander all these years. And now I see that Zartan is here as well, just as I remember him:

why does Zartan need to be in Disquise all through the film long? thats not Zartan to me...in the cartoon he was himself and used disquises when needed to and wasnt in it for very long....YO-Blow!!

Especialy with what appears to be a suit. Ni, i just think he's gonna be in disguise 90% of the film, and betray the joe team at a key point, and be revield to be an operative. THEN changing to look like whatever retarded design they came up with. perhaps he'll have orange facepaint, and a neon orange mohawk.

I've read a spoiler that the Doctor IS Cobra Commander. He first starts out as a scientist for Destro and MARS, making weapons...mind control and such and then is revealed later on in the course of the movie as the TRUE power behind Cobra. Perhaps he is controlling Destro and the rest of Cobra via mind control (brainwave scanner anyone?) and gets scarred up during the course of the movie...hence why we see the full mask later on.

Take a good look at the photo of the Doctor, doesn't it look like Joseph Gordon-Levitt?

My understanding is that they are trying to keep it a secret that Joseph Gordon Levitt is playing Cobra Commander. But he has been open about it in interviews. This Doctor character apparently "becomes" or is revealed to be Cobra Commander by the end of the film.

I'm not really bothered very much by the "internationalization" of the team for the film, it would make some amount of sense to create a multinational team to combat something like Cobra.

That said, just about everything else about the film looks like it's going to blow chunks in a major way. The costume design (for just about everyone but the Baroness) for the members of Cobra is both waaaaaaay off and looks absolutely horrid.
