I was kind of inspired by Mike's post about the most realistic piece for Star Wars characters. So what are your thoughts about the comparison here, not to make it a post to bash on either, but what do you prefer? :dunno Let me post some thoughts on what makes each great:

GG - Computer scan, a more durable material, realistic sculpts, price benefits (well at least for most of the busts), a smaller line which makes it easier to be a completist

SS - I suppose what initially drew me to SS was that the artists working on the films (LOTR) were actually sculpting the pieces, this of course has its pros and cons. In some cases IMHO the sculpts aren't all that great. Polystone seems to be a bit more fragile, and a little harder to maintain. Pricewise $350 is a healthy chunk of change for a Darth Vader, but do you prefer that, because of the interworkings of fabrics and poly?

So there you have it, what do you like better and why? Do you care that much for realism? I didn't factor in Attakus, because I don't have any of their pieces, to comment on.

I wouldnt really say Vs each other rather compliment each other. Your kind of getting the best of both worlds. Statues and busts and 1/4's and I guess replicas also sometime.
The 1/4's are going to look awesome from Sideshow yea I think they are a tad overpriced. But they are cool!

Yeah, I want to reiterate this is not a whose better argument, but which do you prefer the more "artificial" computer scans, or perhaps a bit more raw - like a sculpt from scratch? I do agree, they complement each other nicely.

I think they're both nice. I don't have any complaints with either. Although I like the Sideshow bases better.

Ahh ok I see what you are saying, I do like that GG does the busts with arms (not all)but I think they look better with arms.

Good point. I never thought of the busts, I was thinking about the statues. Yes, I like the busts with arms better.

I agree, they do compliment each other.

The Busts are very well done and so far, the 2 statues released from GG (we did not get in C3P0 yet), are nice as well.

Sideshow's 3 statues so far are fantastic with Luke being the weakest of the 3. Between Attakus and Sideshow, could someone make me a great Skywalker Statue. LOL. :banana

Sideshow had the best of all worlds with the LOTR License because they were able to do statues, busts, helms, etc.

Now that GG is doing statues and SS is doing statues, I would think the collector is the person who really wins.

Can't wait for the mini helms.

Yes GG and SS service both fields of the statue and busts for SW, and then you got MR doing replicas....in my opinion that is great licensing for Lucas......

You left out Attakus who produce the best stuff IMO.

Now why didn't their Jango bust look like the bust-up, with the blasters out infront? That's one example.

After all, the bossk bust-up is virtually identical to the mini-bust of the same character...arms included on both. :dunno

I find it baffling.

I hope the remaining bounty hunters from ESB have their arms included.
