Just got these pics through for the new GG SpeederBike Diarama. Its 12 x 6 x 7.5 inches in size and is due for release in September along some new clone wars maquettes.
I'm having server problems but you can still check the pic out at this thread:

Looks pretty good....not great but I do like it.
Something just looks "cheesy" about it....not sure.
I will still get it.

I was hoping the dioramas would have some scenery, but the pieces by themselves still work for me. :rock

Hmm, nice job, but I agree with Gruson...something feels not quite right. It has that 'taking a break, waiting for a mate' look about it. :D

I think it looks great. There were some scout troopers hanging about in Jedi until it @#%$ the fan.

This should be up for pre-sale within days if not already. as the distributor is already taking preorders in the UK. The fact that its not up on GG's site yet does make me wonder whether I wasn't supposed to realease this info just yet but hey the damage is done now and I've always been pretty crap at keeping secrets.

Perhaps the mirror? It doesn't quite fit in with the figure and it's pose. I think these bases are better suited for vehicle models and not figures. And the pose is a bit too dynamic for such a simple base.
I don't see how it qualifies as a diorama if it oesn't have any scenery on it, which is quite a disappointment.
It'll go well with the Code 3 stuff tho, and the Koto Scout Trooper will be a nice addition.
I'll be getting this one without a doubt, just wish they had worked on the scenery instead of choosing this easy way out. Can You imagine a Taun-Taun hopping around on a mirror like that? I think not :p

I like it and I think a pose whith him riding the bike would look better, but then you would have to have somthing below the bike supporting it which IMO would be an eyesore. I think with this pose it hides the fact that the bikerscout is actually holding up the bike.

I had been wondering about how they'd fix that, I was expecting a tree log or something behind the Bike so that you wouldn't see the attachments.
This pose is a clever solution though.

I like it, the way the Scout Trooper is holding up the bike like it's hovering in mid air is brilliant.

I do like it alot, but I thought the pose seemed 'different' to what I expected it to be. I will be ordering it.

I like the pose.......just wish the base was different.......a few tree stumps, grass & moss.

I have a feeling that these bases will be used for all future statue/ diorama releases.

dunno....i mean the base i enough to put me off buying it TBH........unlike the dewback that is just like it was snatched straight out the movie.

For those that want to see the rider on the speederbike, a few years ago AMT put out a plastic kit and their idea was to insert the bike and rider into a piece of plexiglas. IMO it's not the best, I think it's pretty inventive what GG did to give the bike the floater effect.

Speaking with Bob, perhaps this is actually in the Statue series, and therefore will be larger scale..

Sorry to say but BIG DISSAPOINTMENT to me :doh :thud
The pose is very nice, I like the idea a lot, but the speeder bike is WAY OFF out of scale. And I really mean WAY OFF.
Check any reference book or pic: Star Wars Chronicles, Star Wars scrapbook (has an excellent pic of the shooting scale model w/scout trooper on top), etc... you simply realice the bike should be bigger or the scout smaller. Total lengt of the bike prop is 3.25 mters in for a 1.8 mters scout, that gives a 1/1.8 ratio, and the GG sculpt has merely a 1/1.5 and that's a BIG difference. Looks like daddy scout is watching over junior's bike.
What a crying shame. I do love this vehicle/rider, one of my favs from the whole trilogy so I know it by heart.
I'm going to write to GG about this, I hope the will scale down or up one of the elements, if not I will NOT buy!

Fat,
You nailed it. I was just about to post on that as well!
GG is really going downhill IMO....they need to stick with busts only. :)

Azog, you may be right. Based on that, uh, base, it's possible this is a statue and not a diorama. :\

Wow, this looks pretty bad!!! Hopefully GG improves the stance of the Scout as well as adds a forest floor. I was hoping for branches, leaves, etc. I also thought that the Scout would be more of a "James Dean" type leaning on his hot rod. As it stands right now, I'm passing on this. It had SO much potential, too......
Maybe the reason they haven't released pics yet is because the piece is undergoing drastic changes. We can only hope.

Gruson,
I think we're mind alike (after all we usually visit the RPF forum.. don't we :p ?). This prop-accuracy thing we share is no good LOL, (to be honest I was surprised you didn't metioned the proportional inaccuracy in you post;) )
Scale seems to be either 1/9.5 say 1/9 for the scout, while the bike is 1/11.
My only hope is either they correct the size (don't think so) or they make the scout smaller (easy with GG technology).
One smmal innacuracy I have spotted is that the bikes "dashboard" for the controls shhould be higher and more angled.
Viking28
04-14-2005, 07:20 PM
maybe they didnt make the bike bigger because of the weight of it, since the only thing holding it up is the troopers leg.
I like it.

I think it's great. The "floating" feel of the bike is incredible and the biker scout is very well done, don't know about the bike scale , I have to compare with other pics. but at first look seems ok.
Don't know how GG can be going downhill as all their statue releases until now looks awesome IMO.:rock :rock :rock

You know there's something bothering me about this concept; in this pose the support leg is bound to be angled backwards right?
That would mean that the whole weight of trooper and bike will actually be behind the single support axis. It will have to be one sturdy leg to keep all of it up, very likely to bend through over the long time, wouldn't it?

Yeah I'm not big on this one either. I think mainly because it almost looks like a Biker Scout extra relaxing between takes on the set of ROTJ more than it does convincingly as something taking place in the actual Star Wars universe.

GG has good busts but the statues/bases look cheap.

I'm going to throw some numbers at you guys (and gals) , so be patient.
According to the starwars.com site, an imperial speederbike is 4.4 meters (14'-5") long.
Using the picture at the front of the thread as a reference, the ratio of the length of the bike to the riders height is approximately 1.75 to 1.
For starters, assume that the rider is above average height, but that he is not standing at at his full height. Lets use six feet (72 inches).
So, 72 x 1.75 = 126 (10' - 6") about 4 feet too short.
But hey, this guy might be the Jesse James of Scout Troopers and choppped his bike for more speed and quicker response.
I really like it. Bring it on GG. :rock :rock

The more I think about, the more I believe this is either a diorama with a temporary base or it's a full-fledged statue now.
elwood49
04-15-2005, 06:09 AM
I agree Richard. The reports from Toyfair that I read all indicated that this base was temporary. Unless it is indeed a statue, which is also a distinct possibility.

04-15-2005, 06:22 AM
I am beginning to think that this will be classed as a statue and not a diorama despite my earlier post. Perhaps they will afford the luxury of deluxe environment bases to HUGE beasts of burden, e.g. tauntaun, rancor, wampa, reek. In other words the most expensive pieces. :idea

The base is what makes Bob and I think statue, god I hope so, cause that would the scout the scale of C3PO, awesome...

fatH,
You are very right. I am a perfectionist, especially when it comes to collecting, and cannot stand it when companies overlook details.
The scout and bike not being in scale is a major screw up IMO.
I just do not understand how they miss it...
elwood49
04-15-2005, 10:04 AM
Actually guys, now that I think about it, this is definitely a diorama.
Its 12 x 6 x 7.5 inches in size
That definitely makes the Scout in scale with the diorama line. 12" long and either 6" or 7.5" in height.
The base is what makes Bob and I think statue, god I hope so, cause that would the scout the scale of C3PO, awesome...
C3PO is 11" tall, and this would be much shorter than that.

I think the pose is perfect, couldn't be better . The biker scout on the bike would be the predictable pose and too boring, I think GG has surprised their fans again choosing a brilliant pose. I love it.
achteel, thanks for the info, the scale is right then,it was the only doubt I had about this piece. there's no doubt this is one will be a high seller.

You always like the "less than par" products Rob.

04-15-2005, 10:45 AM
No, I don't . That's why I only collect GG and SSW. What I like are nice poses, sculpt, likeness, painting, etc and GG have never disappointed me until now with their line of statues. With their line of busts there might be some flaws like the Han bust. What I think is that you seems to always criticize GG just because you already have a big Attakus collection, but think in this way... competition is always good to every business, who knows, Attakus may raise their statue's quality because some of them surely needs to be redone.:naughty

04-15-2005, 10:54 AM
Rod,
I think you misunderstood. I was trying to show that the speedebike was out of scale....too small. I do, however like the piece very much and wouldn't be surprised if GG makes adjustments before production. After all, this is probably just a pic of a prototype.

Yes I understood achteel, the bike might be about 4 feet too short, but like you said not every biker scout have the same height... so what if this one is a little taller.

I know the Star Wars site is supposed to be canon, but I'm afraid the got the dimensions really wrong. Every reference book thta I have refers the full prop to have 3.25 meters (flaps no extended). For futher refirmation on this the scale models used for shoothing was 81 cm, that makes it a precise 1/4 scale (which is the mentioned scale of the scale model).
I know its fun to theorise this scout may be a Andre the Giant type of scout:lol , but standar is stardar and that is 1.80 meter high for a scout .
Really hope the'll correct the bike, or ...... I wonder how this trooper will look with a AMT accurised bike (that is more to sale with the figure.
My two cents
