Might as well make an official thread to make it easier for people to see the latest pics + to post their own once they get this figure in-hand. Enjoy.

There's the heart reactor with Mark 2 and a mini bust?...
This was one of the reasons I was debating getting it or not.

The mini-bust/Pedestal with Armor Display + Light up heart is only included with the Ex. Mark II. The regular one only comes with the light up heart.

The big reason I want the Mark II is because I already have the red and yellow armor with the comiquette and I also like how the faceplate slides up on the II instead of taking the whole helmet off.

Wait, you didn't hear who The Mike is? He knows exactly what he wears and what his waist size is. :lol Also I wonder if you have to be careful removing IM from his box. My Robocop had the sides of his head stuck to the tray, thus removing some of the paint from the head.

I'm still hoping that we'll see it February. As usual Hot Toys surprised us with this release. When they said it would be before the 26th I had thought that it would just be a few days before, but it ended up being a week and a half sooner. So SS might have it sooner then they think.

Until HT (or another company) decides to make some accurate, QUALITY clothing for these type of characters (Tony Starks, Bruce Wayne, etc.) people will have to go the alternative route and just pick whatever suit they can find that they like. HT or another company should pick up on the demand and just offer quality, screen accurate clothing in packs for a reasonable price. I mean, look at how much money these other companies make and most of ther clothing is mediocre at best.

It was February until recently, but with HT having to push back the release I guess it affected Sideshow as well.
Seems we'll be getting them early march... as there is usually at least a month to 2 month delay between overseas release and Sideshow sending them out.

I would say keep hold of it for a few months..... might go up in value might not. The avp predators from hot toys are worth so much though its worth waiting to see.
Anyway , quick question about this. When you switch heads to the downey sculpt if you wanted the chest to light up whilst you had it on wouldn't the other light inside the head light up ?. That would be using battery power not needed.
Is there more than one switch or is that just it ?.
Devil_666
01-15-2009, 09:52 AM
I think it's all or nothing.. because I haven't seen a single pic with individual lights on. Good question though.. because the human head sculpt is hollow inside right.. so I'd be curious to see how much the Downey head lights up. If you notice.. there hasn't been any pics of the figure with the Downey head WITH the lights on.

There are three switches. 2 for the Left and right hand and 1 for the chest and eyes.

You can see the hand switches here on the forearms. Some of the pics show one lit hand and one fist hand (so this would answer the question that it wouldn't light all LEDs together as one)

Oh, I don't think its even in the same ballpark... but as a real world Spiderman he fits in well next to Iron Man in that shot. Better than my Comic Spidey would. And the height difference works well too.

HI,
For your update. HOT TOYS has released the 1st lot of ironman 3. They
separate their production into few lots. They first produces a lot
for their own retail shop. People buy it at higher price. After that
lot HOT TOYS will produce the 2nd lot followed by 3rd lot. We are
their official online seller therefore we will start getting the
figures from their 2nd lot onwards. The
2nd lot will be released around the Feb end. We will send
items out according to date of purchase. Our price for you will not increase=)

Are you serious?!?! You think that if you get this you willl be constantly bothered by the fact it is not 100% screen accurate in bulk?! I feel sorry for you if that is the case. (but not really).
This thing is TRULY a Movie Masterpiece and will likely never be bettered as a 1/6 scale representation of movie IM. HT are absolute legend geniuses and this figure will likely not be beaten by any release this year. (the above is NOT just HT fanboyism either, the pics speak for themselves.)

I don't think the actual neck piece moves at all. I haven't seen any pics with it moved. The head looks like it slides over a ball joint (which also houses the led) so the head can only move side to side and maybe slightly up and down. But to me, the actual neck piece looks static and unmoveable.
On a side note, how do the hands attach?
Looks like the hands will slip over ball joints, not pegs, which is good since people will probably be swapping out the hands a lot.

I believe the leanness people are seeing is a optical illusion based on the fact they brought out the shoulder pads a bit ,most likely for pose ability. I in photoshop I took this image of mark 2 and brought in the pads to a more movie accurate position. I used the mark 2 because the red and yellow color palette is has a slimming effect, especially in the legs. you can compare this image to the iron man turnaround seen on the official iron man website for movie accuracy comparisons

Me thinks those nitpickers are really just looking for an excuse not to buy this figure. (like they did with TDK bats which is a really fantastic figure and looks great proportion wise, only problem was V2 BB Batman should have been bulkier, if he was we wouldn't be hearing all these TDK Bat being too big)

I think it looks okay on it's own, but proportion-wise, the only way Robert Downey Jr. would fit in that is if he was a really tall twig.
I know RDJ is quite a short man in real life but in the movies they try to portray him as being not that short. In certain shorts he actually had to stand on books or boxes so his height disparity with other actors isn't that huge.
Are those comparison pics squashed or something? Cause I was watching it again on DVD and the suit looks a lot more sleeker (like the HT figure) than those promo poster shots.
Me thinks those nitpickers are really just looking for an excuse not to buy this figure. (like they did with TDK bats which is a really fantastic figure and looks great proportion wise, only problem was V2 BB Batman should have been bulkier, if he was we wouldn't be hearing all these TDK Bat being too big)
yess you are absolutely right, speaking for myself.
I find TDK too bulk. Face it, seen on screen: the new suit is lean and the Begins suit is more bulk, but the Hot Toys TDK is as bulk as the Begins suit. Medicom got the proportions PERFECT (without wanting a debate about the quality, sculpt, paint etc, just proportions)
And Iron Man is too lean and should be more bulkier in the waist.
So, speaking for myself, Hot Toys made a too bulky batman and a too lean Iron Man. For me these are too obvious not to be bothered by, so I did not buy them. It's not good enough for me, so I won't pay that lot of money for it.
As for the begins suit, it is well proportioned. If you made him MORE bulk than it is, it would have been too much, it would look really ridiculous. But now it's "perfect" so I bought it. (I even did modifications to it to make it more perfect)
I am not the kind of collector who wants to own a movie-figure just to own it or he can say he owns something from that movie.
If I want to own something, it's because it looks movieaccurate, and than I am prepared to pay the price for it.
If certain essential characteristics are too way off that it bothers me, I just ain't buying it.
So, what you call nitpicking is not the same as what other would call nitpicking. I am sure you agree there has to be a certain level of nitpicking IF you look for accuracy, so for me personal, bulkyness or leanyness of a figure is a point of argument.
So what has this to do with finding excuses not to buy? if its good enough for me, I won't hesitate to buy it, hell I already got 9 hot toys figures + one coming up! does that seem like a man who is nitpicking all the time and finding excuses? I think not!
The ONLY problem I have with Hot Toys is with Iron Man-figure and with TDK batman-figure, that all.
Personally, their coolest figure ist still the T-800 endo, it is thé most articulated figure and looks movie accurate too...so when you say (in another topic) that you would wish for hot toys to remake the endo with the release of T4 because it is not articulate enough, I really got to laugh about your comments on me being a nitpicker :rotfl
On a side note, how do the hands attach?
I think I would be bothered yess, just like with TDK-batman.
Those are the ONLY figures of HT wich I have this issue when looking at the pictures (and there are tons of pictures, promo and from users here to look at)
With all my other HT figures I didn't have this problem. When something is spot on, it will show also on pictures.
In case of IM, his lean bodywaist just catches my eye, so Snake Sucker sorry to disagree with you :o I hope I have not affended you with your worshipping of this figure :) I mean it when I say that I'm glad for you if it doesn't bother you. So do not feel sorry for me, feel happy, cause I just saved myself alot of money for a figure wich I would be bothered about everytime I look at it...I hope you understand what I mean.
and to show my appreciation about the figure, I absolutely love the overall sculpting and color and articulation and all the gizmo's they got it with! I really do, but him being to lean just outshines all of that in my eyes. It's a pitty, cause everything else is indeed spot on!
And I definately wasn't trying to diss the figure or something...
Theres always something to complain about huh?
Its really that frustrating? Poor you :(
Don't get me wrong, agian
I am just talking about THIS figure being to lean, it's not like I am dissing the whole HT figure-range with complaints, (I got 9 HT items...)
I just "complain" about 1 aspect (bulkyness or lack of it) on 2 figures: IM and TDK batman, that's it, don't push it.
What is complaint on 2 figures on a whole assortment of figures and vechicles? You can't love everything they make, can you, I wish I could though :) but I'd love everything I would have even less money to spend on them :)
Not surprising there are some things that are off... but unless it was a direct comparison I wouldn't notice it. And those are the kind of things that I can live with... its when you look at it and instantly see problems that I get more concerned.
I agree, and to be honest, as badass it looks, the lack of bulk is what I first noticed, thus my concern to buy or not to buy :)

Don't get me wrong, agian  I didn't get you wrong the first time, I merely expressed my disbelief that someone could receive this figure and constantly be bothered by it's bulk not being 100% perfect screen accurate.

Since the whole TDK Bats issue have been beaten to death at the DC forum, I will avoid bringing that up again but for someone who demands accuracy, you sure are lenient about the BB V2 Bats. That one got a few things wrong with it, namely the cape clasp at the wrong place, the cowl neck flap a little too long in the front, and the waist is a little too thin.
The real suit is supposed to be a huge piece of thick sculpted rubber suit and that's why Bale looks so huge in that suit.
With HT, they made the suit a thin one piece rubber suit and ends up having too thin of a waist.
With TDK suit, they made the rubber suit thicker than the BB suit and with the added chest piece, the TDK suit ends up looking bigger than the BB V2 suit.
And to keep my post relevent, I will post screencap from the Iron Man disc 2 for comparison. It's great reference material and you guys will have a whole new appreciation of the length HT went through to bring us this excellent product.

those mods made it accurate enough for me, and the bulkyness issue you see in it is not as far off as with the IM figure or the TDK batman.
When compared to the takara its a whole lot better, and if you made it more bulk it would look like a hulk.

Tiny torso's and big shoulders is a recurring flaw with Hot Toys' figures. Their predator line is all that way, and they're finally taking steps to address it with the original predator. (http://www.hottoys.com.hk/product.php?cat=65&pid=411) I have the Dark Knight (new costume), and his head compared to the film is noticeably too small. Legs that are either too skinny or too long is another constant for them. So none of the figures are perfect.
That said, I recall hearing that they cheated the proportions a little on the CGI Iron Man model to give him a slightly more heroic appearance, and elongating or thinning the waste was one of those measures. The figure looks perfect to me, apart from the oversized shoulder pads. Some figures fail to live up to their original promo pics, but the final Iron Man figure IMO goes way beyond what the original images promised.

Then at that time make the statement. But it's like how some people are already crowning the Medicom TDK Batman the "best Batman figure ever" when it's just a prototype. You say "Hot Toys has maintained (sometimes surpassed) the prototypes" but imo it would be more accurate like this: "Hot Toys has maintained (sometimes surpassed) the prototypes WITH CERTAIN FIGURES" because they sure as hell haven't done that with their Predator line.

I believe HT hinted at the Iron Monger like a long time ago last year but honestly one can't help but feels that they kinda dropped the ball on this one. As amazing these figures are, they took way too long to get it out (Mark one in like April or May this year) and it's almost one year after the movie.
At this rate, if the Iron Monger is ever coming out, it might be like end of the year or something.

I think its funny that people simply site the Tumbler, the ED and the PL and say "Why can't HT just make an Iron Monger?!?!" Not a shot at the post above but I've read that over and over. Look, there have been companies who have made 1:6 remote control cars forever, even the Tumbler, what is shocking is that its functional in terms of being able to put Bats in there which wasn't the case for those other companies but in terms of scaling it isn't a groundbreaking thing. PL, ED both great in their own regards but let's look at Iron Monger's constructs.
http://2aday.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/monger2.jpg
The legs are on balljoints for movement on the figure but if you look at the pic from the film
http://www.majorspoilers.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/ironmonger.jpg
The legs are narrow and short making it difficult to actually make it function and get a Stane in there. Not to mention the shoulder angles would destort a 1:6 figure in there and get him to still be able to be some what posable.
So let's say they go No Stane. Just an IM. Okay, the Iron Monger that SWS made was 10' in 1:6 world that's 20". That's 3" taller than the PL not to mention hes about as wide as the ED-209. So you take the size and say we've gotta make it as posable as Iron Man and you've got quite a task. Not to mention that the Iron Monger in design is amazingly top heavy so you've got to measure out the balance in order to make it be able to stand without looking grossy misproportioned because if not he'd topple every second he is left alone.
Its not easy of a task by any means to do it and then make it affordable enough to where people aren't gonna go "For a figure? Really?" and actually order it.

I believe you make it sound WAY harder than what it actually would be. the figure wouldn't be so top heavy either if it had a stan figure which would make the top hollow for the most part. i would say a 400 to 500 dollar price range would be where a Monger would cost. and I would have no problem if Hot toys made some liberties with the joints on the hips and shoulders (hell, any joint change would be fine by me) to make it work. I myself don't really care if it's 100 percent film accurate, i'd rather have function than accurate. but if your in the camp that doesn't want hot toys to make an liberties to make it work then I guess it would be pretty hard. but I don't really care THAT much for the accuracy. even if some of the changes would be to change the overall size of the suit I would be ok with that. just as long as it works. when there's a will, there's a way, if hot toys wants to make this figure, they can do it.

Now grated they've been working on the Alien Queen in 1:6 form for a while so take those comments with a grain of salt. I want film accurate, no questions asked. This will be a one shot deal, there won't be an Iron Monger v2 shortly after unless its a BD which is different altogether so I want them to take their time and either do it right or not at all.

ah, well i'm not in that camp about the accuracy. and I was going to mention the alien queen, if they want to make that, which I find a much harder task than the Iron Monger, then the Monger is something they can do. and I would find that since it is larger, it would be easier to make it work, easier to engineer all the little things. of course that would bring up the cost, but like I said, I don't really care if hot toys cuts any corners, but I don't think they would do that anyways. I believe the reason they are holding back is because of the amount it would cost people and there for, they wouldn't be able to sell it. just my thoughts though.

From the numerous positive responses and photos, I have taken the liberty to waitlist myself for the Mark III and Mark II. I've also convinced my girlfriend to purchase me the Mark I :lol. I think having all of them would look great in a detolf. I'm new to this hobby and have been looking for a piece to jump into and I think I'm SOLD. I hope it converts, as I've come to appreciate what Sideshow does for this community and hope to funnel my money towards their commitments.

I never really noticed that until now. It's subtle.
It is subtle. I probably wouldn't have noticed either except I was watching the behind the scenes features on the Iron Man blu-ray last night and the ILM guys were talking about how hard it was to get the brushed metal look right :)

If they do make an Iron Monger I won't be getting it. I simply don't have the space or money to put down for it, same reason I'm passing on the Tumbler.

I think you might wanna wait for the actual product to hit before making a statement like that. Because right now you're comparing a prototype with an actual product on the market.
Nope. No need to wait. Compare prototypes.

I wished they could have done a more less serious RDJ sculpt for this. It seems to be a pattern with their human sculpt these days, the very dead serious look.
In the movie I don't recall him being so serious.

HT probably would reserve that for V2 ala jack sparrow. But yeah, the only time I remember Tony Stark looking that serious is right before he took off to gamara, but he was drunk so that might have something to do with it. :D

So anyone have any idea how CSC is getting theirs? Are they getting them from asia or waiting for SSC's order to come in... I'm guessing the latter and that makes me sad :(

The only thing that gave it away was the plastic tab at the back. Thought it was the full size one. :monkey1

I emailed them the other day and they said March, so the SS shipment.
