As everyone probably knows the Box office numbers weren't that great, they weren't bad but not enough to get the go ahead for a sequel. But, it doesn't mean it still can't happen. Joss Whedon posted over on the Browncoats board that this weekend will be very important. If the numbers don't drop too much the movie will stay in the theaters and the longer it stays around the more people that will see it. So, if you loved the movie and you want more of the storys go and see it again this weekend!

I hate to say it, but much like the Browncoats, I'm afraid we've lost this war. At least it went out in a blaze of glory.

I have to respectfully disagree with you about having lost the war. There is such a thing as a sleeper hit and Universal has said that Serenity made the numbers that they expected. There have been movies that have had similar openings and even lower numbers that have gone on to have a sequel. The Transporter for one did just that. Here's there box office numbers:

Serenity openend in less theaters but had a bigger opening weekend. And if the sales of the Firefly dvd set are any indication the dvd for the movie is going to sell extremely well too. Plus I also think this would be a movie that people would want to rent too if they haven't seen it. So I believe there is a chance to keep the movie on the big screens for awhile, especially if us fans support it by going to see it again.

I hope you're right and we do get at least one more Firefly/Serenity movie, but I ain't holding my breath.

come on every1, if we band together!!

ok I'll skip the crap, WATCH IT. many..many times.
If your not sure about seeing it, please watch it, I bet you'll be surprised.

I'll be there... with some more newbies :) I was a little bummed to hear reports of some theaters dropping it already in preparation of new movies coming out this weekend. Which is really weird to me - it seems that they'd drop Flightplan - which had a really dismal per-screen take even though it was number one total - or Into the Blue, which had an even WORSE per-screen take. That means, even if word-of-mouth is awesome and more people want to see it this coming weekend, it will be harder to find and not be on as many screens (and most of those screens are in downright horrible theaters, at least out here in my neck of the woods).

I guess we'll see what happens.

I just bought the Firefly DVD after hearing all this about Serentiy. After watching a few episodes I will definately see Serenity this weekend.

Well, my week got to be far busier than I anticipated, so I only got the one showing in last friday, but I hope everyone who has seen it has an opportunity to see it again this upcoming weekend. I have plans to see it twice more this weekend (and hopefully more in the weeks to come), and I hope to bring a couple of folks to each showing that may have otherwise not taken the chance to see this film.

box office

non-US box office is a huge factor nowadays. A film such as 'The Transporter' did big dollars worldwide, that's why there was a sequel made. Serenity has the potential to get solid numbers worldwides as many other action films will get.

Don't forget to see it people! This weekend could decide whether or not there's a sequel.

Well, saw it for the first time. You're right, it is losing screens. In this town it is only playing on two screens right now, so decided to see it before it left town (probably next weekend).

Great film, especially liked the idea of a 14-year old girl who could kick everyone's ass. :clap Don't have time to see it more than once though. :(

But, I'll buy the DVD when it comes out...

Very disappointing - 4.9 mil. a 51% drop. Not an overwhelming affirmation for the film or for Joss as a feature director.

Saw it again this weekend, I dont understand how the numbers are that low when the theater I saw it at had on two screens 20 mins apart and both had pretty good size crowd. Esp with it being a Sunday matnee.
