Not a whole lot of mix in his media - so what would be a fair price for Grevious 1/4? Considering it's probably mostly sculpted - no cloth or just a cape...
Endoskeleton prices maybe?

Yea Dave I guess it would be to much to ask if it would be ready to ship. They did it for last years Comic Con exclusives although it was 1/6s figures and a bust.

Dave it makes sense that there would be a large metal compent to him for the mixed media. He is mostly droid according to Clone Wars. And in the episode where they introduce him, he is definatly mechanical.

From the visual guide to ep. 3, Grievous is 90% droid, with his brain and eyes inserted into the robotic body. He was supposedly built by the same race that builds VADER! Once this movie hits, Grievous will be the MAN. (aside from DV of course)SSW is not stupid, by any means, so we really should expect greatness from this piece....
I know his arms split into four for lightsaber combat..Man thats just nasty cool, can't wait to see if it does that:google

Well there you go then. Good news for the huge throng of Grievous fans I guess. I imagine most will likely be very happy with this news.
You know, I find it interesting to see just how hugely popular Grievous has become far in advance to people even seeing the character in action in the film proper, seems his popularity is largely based on the idea of the character more than anything else at this point. Me, I'm still waiting to see how well, or not, the actual character works in the context of the film, but for whatever reason I've just never fallen for the Grievous hype thus far.
I mean for me the design is fine, but it doesn't blow me away or anything, the idea of the character is fine, but again it doesn't strike me special or overly excite me particularly, so ultimately whether or not I really get into this particular character will come down solely based upon the characterization and how the character works in the final context of the film itself, and nothing else. Wonder if I'll end up being converted in a little under a month...hmm, should be fun finding out anyways.
In the meantime, this is cool news for the fans, and I'm sure will prove a very popular piece for all those fans who seem to know more than I do when it comes to this character, but right now not too interested in this one (as far as buying it goes anyway) myself. Then again because of my limited budget I'm going to be very, very picky about which Sideshow pieces I get anyway, limiting myself only to my most favourite characters from the saga. Anyways I'm rambling so I'll shut up now... :lol

I reckon there will be an SS exclusive version with interchangable arms with his blaster &/or his cape.
cherno
04-21-2005, 05:56 AM
Severen, I don't need just the idea of him to be cool. If you have seen clone wars from the cartoon network, you have seen him in action plenty of times, that is enough for me to be excited over this piece.
If it is in the same price range as Vader I will definately order it.

Holy crap!!! That Grievous is sweet!! Guys don't forget that all 4 lightsabers will most likely light up.:drool
Obviously none of us have seen the movie yet, so maybe Grievous loses his cape for this scene in the film? I do wish that he had his cape for some color though. Thank you Sideshow.:bow There's no question in my mind that the SS line of Star Wars figures is the best. Wonder if there will be an exclusive and what the cost will be? I think I'm going to cancel one of the LOTR steeds, because this is a MUST buy.
A big thank you to SS for keeping the cool bases on each piece. I love the variety that each has. It adds that extra touch that is lacking on the new GG Biker Scout.

Pulling from what I have learned of the Character from the two books he is in, and several comics, and also the Clone Wars Animated Series., Grievous is another Darth Maul, Boba Fett villian, short life span as far as fans know them, but very well liked. Plus he just looks badass CGI or not, very cool character. I would like to have seen Asajj Ventress also in the movie

Heed Shaithis' words, this is indeed an amazing piece. Definitely not just like the Hasbro 12" figure. ;) If I'm not mistaken, this is the most complex figure Sideshow has done to date... Blows the Endoskeleton out of the water in that regard... You should see how many pieces the prototype breaks down into, I couldn't even count them.
By the way, this is another Gore Group masterpiece. :rock

Great.... $550+ for this bad boy! Better be an ES of 1500 or less for that price. Hulkfan, where's the cape? It really would be a nice touch for the piece. Is it on the exclusive perhaps? Also, do the arms move like the endo? That would be awesome.

It's obvious that this is much nicer than the Hasbro 12", but with a little weathering, and a custom base, I can make the exact same pose, and for those who haven't seen Hasbro's Grevious 12 inch, it is by far the most detailed they have done. I'd rather spend $25 on this character and save money for more intresting multi-media (cloth, etc.) characters like Obi-Wan...but to each his own...

Grievous has very small cylindrical rods in his design, I think it would be difficult for Polystone to recreate that. So Grievous should have a few metal components in the final product. And at $450, he better have some articulation! :thud

Remember kids - it's more expensive to create an all poly figure than a mixed media one. That's why a no-cloth Greivous costs more I'd imagine. I'd like to see a cape too, but the pose doesn't really seem like it's suited for a cape. I'd think in the film if he's spinning 4 lightsabers around that a cape might get in the way.
This does look extremely detailed and it's a credit to the design team that they are able to realize a figure like this in 3-D that wasn't really designed to live in the real world, but only as a CGI creation. Look at the Hasblow figure - fragile, always falling apart, they caught the basic look of the character but he can't even hold his friggin' lightsabers.
If Greivous is as kick-booty a character as Maul - I think this will be a very popular piece.
Given the small arms too, I'm doubting the sabers will light up.

Well I got to say this is a awesome 1/4!!!
Very well done Sideshow!
But I do think he is about $100 overpriced unless he has a small edition size then I could see that price.
If there is a exclusive version of him, I think he should have more than just his cape. Maybe a jedi head in one of his hands or something cool.

I just dunno anymore about this piece......$450 is alot of money & if we keep on paying this kinda money for these items, the price is only gonna go higher & higher further along the line.
Unless SS come up with a low edition size SS exclusive then I'll be heading off to the dealers for a good discount.
Not really a good way to start the line off............with rapidly increasing prices.
Look at the LOTR line eg. the balrog statue ($300) if that was released now it would be round about $400 with an ES of 3000.

I'd rather have a collection of the most dynamic, the most badass characters from SS, to sit along side, as signature pieces, my GG collection. :rock

I must admit I usually avoid variations most of the time. But I just couldn't bring myself to resist on the Han Solo. Ordered the exclusive immediately and then caved and went back and ordered the regular too. Han is one of my favorite characters and honestly I just feel that these two pieces even though just a variation are distinctly different. I am still blown away by the sculpt, it just appears to be almost dead on, can't wait to see it in person!!!

Why in the world would you sell such a wonderful character like HAN SOLO to get Gen. Grievious? Are you nuts?
Han Solo is simply one of the greatest characters ever. If I had two, one to trade, I'd save him to trade for something bigger and better than Grievious.
I think the only fair trade would be for Indiana Jones (Toys McCoy or Cinemaquette) or Fett (SS).

Way too rich for my blood, and despite looking like a high quality piece I also think it's overpriced personally.

No, I will sell one version of him. No, quite sane. I happen to like the look of the Grievous statue and the character (read the novel and you'll know why) and feel that having 2 Han Solo figures in my collection, which I might add is predominantly GG, is too much. I think you're missing the point. I cannot envisage becoming a hardcore collector of SS Star Wars for the simple and succinct reason they will bankrupt me. I am choosing pieces that I feel will best complement GG, and having 1 Han, 1 Grievous, 1 Vader, etc., does that for me. :wave

The more I look at this piece the more impressed I am with it. Hulkfan mentioned in another thread about how incredibly detailed Grievous is. I think I'm going to have to get it after! Can't say that I'd prefer an exclusive with cape. I think this one stands alone just fine, you can really get a feel for the movement of the arms (not literal movement, just the impression of movement; it's not a "static" pose). :dance

I love this piece...well, I am fascinated by the character, so it only seems right I do justice to my collection, albeit a GG one, and add this one. Coming from a guy of his calibre, Hulkfan has brought home to us the lengths many have gone to to create such a piece of splendour. So now I can appreciate the economics a little better, despite wishing the cost was less...but hey...can't win them all.
Just out of idle curiosity, Hulkfan, are you currently working on any Star Wars projects?

I agree Viking. This piece looks incredible. I just don't think I can go for the $450 price tag.
It would go great with Darth Vader thou.....Hmmm....

If the regular version is assigned an ES of 1000, and any exclusive released has an ES of 250...question is: would those who are on the 'fence' take a leap of faith and order?
Viking28
04-22-2005, 02:50 PM
Gaz I can tell you now I would take the leap of faith on the exclusive. But I mean if either Fett, Clone Trooper ect ect I wont think twice on cancelling him. Mainly because of that price tag.

Vk, I hear what you're saying. To find the asking price for this one when so much from GG is most likely slated after ROTS opens, is pushing it if I hadn't have ordered both variations of Han. If news breaks of a GG Gr statue or a huge haul of GG merchandise in the pipeline for '06, then the situation will change.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have an exclusive version. Either way I'm getting this big sucker.

Migwit, that's a picture of the CGI character from the movie.
Looking at the arms, I still don't think this will be 100% Polystone. The arms just look too spindly to be made from Polystone to me. It'd be better for them to be cast out of metal.

I'm all over this one..... I don't care how much he is. He is pricey, yes.... But as someone mentioned, hopefully SS will do the flex-pay program with him.
I'd be willing to bet this'll be one of the best statues to come out of the Star Wars line, or dare I say, anything Sideshow has done. He looks amazing.
I've been screaming for Greivous since I found out SS was doing ROTS characters. And now that he's official, I'd be a damn fool not to get him.
