View Full Version : Replacement jacket and whip for Indy
SovereignStudio

There was a lot of interest a while back in getting me to do a run of jackets to replace SSC's jacket. Looking at their whip, I figured I would off them, as well. I can do posable versions, too that match my regular whips exactly. If there's still interest, I want to build a list to go into production in late January. I may take a few orders now for early January. Jackets will be $65.00, whips will be $20.00 each (either style) or $35.00 for a pair.

I think you should offer up that holster and gunbelt too!
Great stuff. My original Indiana Jones from you is still one of my prized pieces...and that's saying a lot considering I got him back in 2002. It was my very first custom 1/6th figure that I ever bought. A real treasure.

Thanks, Wor-Gar! That means a lot. I'll offer whatever pieces people want, I guess.

I would definitely be in for both! I too have one of your Indy's and the jacket is awesome! The fedora you'd made is equally impressive . . I would be up for one of those as well!!

Best 1/6 Custom Indy Jacket made. Anywhere... nothing even comes close.
It's even better than the PF Indy jacket! More accurate too.

Glad you like your Indy, Todd! As far as the fedora, it would never work with Trevor's hatless head. The hair is too fluffy for it. But, hey, I still offer the whole figures for anyone who wants to go that route :naughty. I still want to do a Special Edition that comes with the Map Room disguise, staff and headpiece. That was the project that got me going on the whole removeable head thing I seem to be using for everything now. I needed a practical way to do a turban head. I even did another Ford sculpt about a month ago that I've yet to cast. How freakin' stubborn am I? :lol

Neither, really. It won't be cast. It's an extremely leather-like fabric that I actually make myself. You want labor intensive? Try having to make the fabric before you can make the jacket! :lol

Could you post pics of the posable whip? I already have one of your Raiders holsters and whips and immiediately substituted Sideshow's with them. This holster appears to be a new and better design, however, so I'm definitely interested in the holster, but I want to see pics of the poseable whip too.
Count me in for one of each: a poseable whip and holster.

Have you been making these types of jackets for a while?
Because I have an Indy jacket I bought off Ebay that's pretty much the same exact thing. It's almost like the oiled cloth they use for Australian Dusters.
What's the color of your jacket because it looks black in the photos?

Ive been making them for 8 years. It's pssible you have one of mine, though I've never sold loose jackets on ebay. But Im sure someone has parted out my stuff. The jackets are really dark brown, nearly black. Same as the Raiders jacket.

Yeah, what he said :lol If I have some time on my "day off" this weekend I'll try to throw one together and test fit it with a HT body. Les did some test fittings with some outfit pieces between a HT body and the Prometheus and he's told me both can wear the same clothes. However my jackets are cut with SHOULDERS, so it might look goofy on the Pro :monkey1 I've still got my buddy's HT Joker so I can test my jacket on that. It should fit. I cut them with really long sleeves and a long body, as it is in the opening of Raiders.

Yeah, that works. I had to do that with my Rob Zombie Myers figures after I "over engineered" the trap muscles, trying to cheat more height from a SSC body.

I'll try to take some later tonight. No head though, as I've sent both of my Indy heads to DarkArtist for repaints.
Really though, everything fits suprisingly well. Shirt is not quite as tight on the Pro as it was on the DML body, and pants could be just a hair longer, but otherwise looks pretty darn good.

Awesome! Thanks, man. And here are the pics you guys wanted, the poseable whip. Sorry the pics aren't that great. They came from a client after he got his Indy about three years ago. Now, this particular whip was permanently attached to a hand with a non-posable wrist pin to keep it stable. My whips are light weight and won't be a problem with your figures. But I did notice the handle seemed to rotate a bit in a stadard hand, depending on how I posed it. I won't be offering that hand. You guys will be using different bodies with different wrist set-ups, they have to be painted so there's the whole skin tone not matching thing.... unnecessary pain in the butt for everyone :lol It may not be an issue at all. You guys know how picky I am over stuff like that and I wanted NO slippage. My advice, get an extra grip hand and just Super Glue that sucker in there.

Looking over your pics, it seems almost identical. Though the zipper isn't painted on mine but it does have the wrinkles pre-formed into the jacket. I also got an Indy shirt and there were other Indy items available. But when I asked if they could make anything requested, they seemed like they could. The shirt by the way is a off white (brighter white then yours), and has no fasteners to close it, it does have non-functioning painted buttons on the front. Not sure if you ever made one like that or in that color.
I'll see if I can find more info about who I bought it from and PM you.

The poseable whip looks great! I'm definitely in for one of those!
As requested, here's the Sovereign set (tailored for the DML body) on the Sideshow Prometheus. Sleeve cut is slightly longer, but it works. The pants are really the only thing that would need much of an adjustment, IMHO. They ride a little low in back, and could be maybe 1/4" longer to sit properly over the shoes. BTW Shawn - could I hit you up for a pair of new pants if you do a set more tailored for the Pro? :D Everything else is great.

Looks great, Cryo!! Thanks for posting those shots. They answer a lot of concerns I had and put them to rest. I'd be happy to make a pair of pants for you to fit that body. No problem, just need to lengthen them a bit; 1/4-1/2 inch maybe.
Screamingmetal, that sure sounds like my stuff. Looking over some stuff, there was a guy on ebay that bought like three Indy's from me over about a year's time. I thought he just really liked my work, turns out he was using my stuff with his own kitbashed Indys and reselling my stuff, claiming he'd made it  You may have gotten some it there.
I'll comb through the post in a bit, update the list. I'll start shooting out payment requests today. My plan of getting five Scarecrow and five Maximus orders for December isn't working out, so I'll do this instead. Bad time of the year to sell complete figures, I guess. You'd think I would learn; happens every year at x-mas time :lol I'll start putting together a list for the other parts, too.

OK, got the list updated. I'm sorry my PM box is full and I didn't have time to respond to everyone on a one-on-one basis. Rest assured, if you've chimed in here on the thread, or by PM, you're on the list! I only put people down for the parts they confirmed, though some of you are expressing tenative interest in other gear. If you're name is missing anything, let me know.
I'm going to do a loose gear break down price list later on today and post it. I may even do a complete outfit set, minus the parts that aren't needed (head, hat, revolver, etc.) I think I'm going to offer boots, since SSC's are integrated into the body. That should cover you HT TT guys. I'm casting them from the Hasbro boots. "HASBRO!?!" :lol When it comes to Indy stuff, TRUST ME! Hasbros' boots, surprisingly, are the best produced in 1/6. Not even the McCoy are better. Hasbro's even has the individual stitching around the moc toe!
Oh, I also have a Grail and proper scale Grail tablet. The Hasbro version is far too small. And if I can get my printer up and running, I can do Grail diaries with a full 48 pages of accurate printed material.

Sweet. So all I need to adjust is the length of the pants then? How are the shirt sleeves? They should cover the wrist joint, with just a bit of extra length so they don't pull up when the elbow is bent.
For the revolver, the barrel pokes slightly out of the bottom, so it may need a slight length alteration if it's not supposed to do that.
I guess maybe more pictures would work better. I took some of the holster, and also some of the figure without a jacket. Pants may need a little more adjusting in the hips - the Pro has big gaps on the back of the legs and it causes the fabric to bunch out funny. Sleeve length is fine, and I like the slightly loose shirt.

I haven't tried it yet. I've got a HT Joker, I'll do a test fitting on that, hopefully this week.
Does the kit include the maroon belt with golden buckle?
Yes. It's not listed because it's part of the pants. Belt loops large enough to actually pass it through look really goofy. The loops are formed to fit the belt properly, then the whole thing is attached.
List is updated, for the last three guys that have got on board .

That is good to know. Proper scale is definitely preferred over functionality. One other quick question...did Indy's pants in the film have side pockets? I notice Sideshow's pants have them. How hard would it be to simulate them in 1/6? I like the material used for Sideshow's pants as they have a real kaki feel to them, but overall all yours look to fit nicer and the back pockets look more accurate as well.

Cryo or Shawn, can you post pics of the clothing on a HT True Type? The proportions, shape, and articulation are just so much better than on the Prometheus. Oh, and have you thought about adding bits of fabric on the shoulders of the shirt (what are these called?) and cuffs on the sleeves?

I'll let Shawn give it a go for the TT fitting :) The pants and shirt are "buttoned" shut with tiny drops of glue, and I don't want to keep cracking apart the old glue and putting more down on the one I have.
However, I expect it'll fit pretty darned good. Aside from the shoulders (which the TT fills out better), overall proportions of the TT body are fairly close. The shoulders are a non-issue with the TT since the set I have is tailored for the wider shoulders of the DML.

A memeber is sending me a TT body as well as a Pro body for fittings. I'll have pics soon. Everything should fit fine on the TT body. My jackets fit a Buck body, which are really tall and lanky. If it fits those those, it should fit anything! I've added length to the pants and adjusted the holster a bit for SSC's revolver, as well.

Sovereign Indy jacket on a Hot Toys True Type!!:whip There are a couple minor tweaks I'm going to make to the pattern. I'm going to bring the collar in a little closer to the neck (these have VERY broard shoulders). I'm also going to give a little more room for the neck at the back of the collar, other wise it will bunch and won't seat properly. Other than that, it fits perfectly.

The Indy gear orders will start going out over the next couple weeks. Still on schedule, I think I had projected these to go into production mid January. I was just gonna say, after reading Shawn's update thread, anyone who didn't get in on the Indy Jacket orders should jump on this now while he's taking a few more orders and has this stuff in production. :gun

Amazing work LES, again. I love the pose and facial expression.
And yes this jacket seems to be very good. I am not pressed, quality work takes time.
Shawn you have my support and confidence. It is a great opportunity/luck for all of us, I mean the indy fan to have people as talented as you on this board.

Yeah, I'm glad Les pointed this out to me. I'd been thinking about skins and Scarecrow masks (those coming soon?), and not so much about the incredible planning and execution (not to mention ongoing improvements) in Shawn's Keaton Batman. Despite the fact that it's staring right at me.
So now I just picture Shawn, bent over a teeny-tiny sewing machine, making 1/6 Indy jackets, and smile...(since I don't know what he looks like, it's an over-the-shoulder shot :D)

Sorry to let this thread go, guys! I figured everyone was just watching my all-in-one update thread in customs.
The Indy jackets/gear will start rolling out this week. I really wanted to have everything else out of here before I tore into the Indy stuff; I wanted to be able to focus on nothing but Indy stuff and new orders. That didn't happen as quickly as I needed it to, so the Indy stuff is now just part of the juggling act. Won't have an affect on quality, I just wanted to narrow my focus for my own sanity. That's long gone anyway, so screw it :lol

Update from my Sovereign news/update thread:
More Indy gear going out soon! Skins, too. Been trying to balance work with spending more time with my little guy. A month of Summer is gone already and we haven't had much time so far to spend together Trent is 13 and always off doing his own thing. Hayden won't be 7 forever, gotta get in every minute I possibly can. But work IS getting done, stuff is always shipping! I just don't sleep much

Soory, guys! I know I've got a lot of guys waiting on Indy gear, but I thought the thread itself had cooled off and dropped off the radar. I've been posting updates in my Sovereign Studio thread over in the customs section.
Anyway, I'm pasting this from that thread. I have no hard ship dates, but this post should sort most questions out. Don't worry, it's good news. Even the fact that I'm not going to try and ball-park dates is a good thing. But know that things are running far more smoothly and efficiently now and things will be going out far more regularly.
Hey, guys. I wanted to elaborate on my earlier post, now that I have time.
As I said before I am now working under supervision, for lack of a better way to word it. A trusted friend and client has mapped out a sensible business plan and schedule, two things I guess I really suck at doing for myself. He's an IT specialist with the military and supervises a team of about ten people. He's done this for nearly eleven years and knows what he's doing. I've been working this way for just a week and it's already showing results. I think it's also important to say that my new "supervisor" is also a client to whom work is owed. So when it comes to the schedule he's worked out, he's not at all dispassionate to my backlog people. He is one of them. The business side of Sovereign Studio is, thankfully, out of my control now and in far more capable hands. I'm just the talent: what I do best.
I now work standard 8 hour days, generally 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. I can work until 7:30 pm if I'm pushing for a really hard deadline, 4 hours on Saturday morning in the same case. Saturday hours, however, will be stanard and permanent until the backlog is complete. Other than that, NO weekend work. My old method of work until I drop was not working. All it was doing was burning me out, making me too tired and stressed to accomplish anything and causing problems in my personal life. I'm getting more done now knowing that I have only a limited time each day in which to work. I'm actually spending time with my wife, which was becoming a serious problem. I always made time for the kids, but not nearly enough for her. And, soon, I'll be able to spend some of my new found personal time to work on new stuff.
My week is split between catching up my backlog and making figures either for ebay or for incoming orders from the board. Monday-Wednesday I'm making new order/ebay figures and Thursday-Friday and my 4 hours on Saturday is dedicated to backlog. New stuff will ship as payments come in, backlog from Thursday-Saturday will ship between Monday and Wednesday. I'm doing three figures per week, either way. If nothing is ordered, it goes on ebay. If you've been wanting to order from me, there's never been a better time. If an order comes in, that's one or two less for ebay. Anything ordered will be scheduled for production the following week with a TWO WEEK turn around. Yes, this means that new orders will be shipping along side of, maybe sometimes ahead of, backlog work. I know it gets annoying when you see someone get something that was ordered after you placed your order, but new work must now be prioritized equally with backlog work. Using income from new orders to pay the bills while focusing only on backlog does not work. All that was doing was quickly turning new orders into a new backlog. It's a pattern of continued failure that I cannot and will not continue.
Many of you know that a lot of work that should have shipped in the last 2 or 3 weeks has been held up from a lack of supplies and my ability to ship due to cash flow. I'm resupplied now and things are rolling. The Mola Ram figures, which many of you have been asking about, are an example of that. I had planned to ship three of the six two weeks ago but ran short on necessary supplies. Those three sat here, in various stages of near completion, waiting for supplies to be finished. They're being finished now. Anything in the last month or so that I've said was shipping has been held back by lack of supplies, funds for shipping or piss-poor scheduling. Scheduling is no longer my area, I have supplies and that will fix everything else. Adherence of course depends on orders to keep supplies stocked and production running smoothly.
To highlight the new business model:
*Hours of operation: Mon-Fri 9:00am to 6:00pm / Sat. 8:00 am to 12:00pm
*Mon-Wed: work for ebay/incoming orders. Thurs-Sat: backlog work
*Two week turn-around on new orders (from date of payment). I no longer
require full payment for figures. I require a 50% deposit on figures, balance due
on completion.
*Backlog orders are currently shipping and will ship each week on a regular basis.
*Also, as soon as I work it out I'll have something I've never offered before: a public phone number for Sovereign Studio.
