I was thrilled to receive this one but quickly lost my joy when I saw the box had been shipped upside down due to the document pouch being glued on the bottom. Opened it up and the packaging itself was upside down as well.

With great fear I unpacked and assembled him, all went well untill lastly I got the helm out... The front spike is cracked :banghead

The statue itself is wonderful, my god what a piece of work, and what formidable size! But at this price I really don't feel like glueing the spike. I think I deserve a replacement and I'm positive I'll get it. The reason I post this before mailing SST is that I notice two similar holes in the back of his boots. I remember talk about spikes that need to go there but they don't seem to be in the box either :( Where have I forgot to look?
edit: right, there they are :p

edit: right, there they are :p Sorry to hear about the botched shipment. I just received mine, as well - #329. Thankfully, no damaged packaging, and such. Where did you find the spikes for the back of his boots, if I might ask?

The spikes were rolled up in one of the foils, I think the wrapping of the helm but not sure. Very very easy to miss :google
I would take pleasure with a replacement head myself.

My Sauron arrived upside down too...the shipping label was on the bottom...the FedEx guy was walking up to my door...carrying the box upsidedown when clearly there are labels on the box to keep it rightside up :banghead
I was lucky tho, no damage. It seems SS can just send u a new helm, wonder if they will ask you to smash it.. :horror

Sorry about your statue, Doomhammer. Hopefully, Sideshow is able to just replace the head. Would save you a lot of hassle and them lots of shipping costs.
My Sauron arrived as well today, one of the first ones in Germany.
The box was delivered upside down like everyone elses (maybe a secret code for the delivery guys?). While the main body with hand is perfect apart from a slightly crooked spike on his right leg, I cannot get Sauron on the pin. :banghead
Hubby used the electric file on it, but apparently it is so off that he's afraid to break the ankle of that heavy piece by constantly trying to get it on and taking it off again. 20 minutes spent in vain, the statue has to go back.
I didn't even unpack the rest.
Has nobody else had this problem?

Mine came upside down as well. Delivery man even chewed my wife out for it.

Sorry to hear that goldberry, pretty damn ironic to get a good statue yet not being able to put it on the base :toilet_cl
What an odd phenomenon. Why are so many of them shipping flipped??? Never heard of this kind of thing before.

Mine came upside down too. I also noticed that my sauron's box is black on three sides with the usual artwork only on one side, is this normal? All of my other boxes have a description on the back and the standard artwork all around the box.

Yeah, this comes up from time to time, but is the perfectly normal.
As far as SS just sending a replacement helm, I would definitely be surprised if they did that. Remember those who received the Gondorian Helm set with only one helm damaged, they had to return the entire set for replacement. I think it would be the same case, the entire unit would have to be either sent back (or destroyed in the case of overseas) for replacement.

Yep they are all that way, and until this piece I believe the black box design was limited to SS exclusives. I am thinking that SS did this to save on design costs, we have mentioned in the past how relatively inexpensive this one is.

I would ask Jennifer at SS if you can return just the helm.
I know with the Balrog... people were able to return broken
whips and not the whole statue.
Upside down shipments....geeez.

The Fell Beast also has the black-except-the-front box...
I don't understand why they put the document pouch on the bottom of the package. They're just asking for trouble that way.

Got mine upside down as well? What were you thinking guys?!?
One bit of advice though, use a stronger type of styrophoam or the plastic type foam. Every one of my corner protectors were broken into 2-3 pieces and were not doing their job as intended.

I recieved mine yesterday not upside down and had a very hard time getting him on the base. after a while i got him on it after the white pin came out of his foot but he doesn't stand completly flat on the base. he rests on his toes and the back of his feet are a bit of the base.Just hope he will keep standing like that. also the helm has 2 chips infront of 1 spike.

Hi Linda,
sorry to read about another not mint statue that you have received. Is there actually one single piece you get that doesn't have a flaw? I mean, what are the odds? :horror What are you going to do about the chips?
My Sauron won't fit on the base AT ALL, we tried increasing the hole in the foot, but it's too small altogether.
So what is this white pin that was in his foot? Could this be the solution to our problem?

09-21-2005, 06:46 AM
Hi Iris,
My gothmog and eowyn arrived in good condition so the chance of recieving a less mint is reduced so far. Also got perfect helms from in2darkness of this forum so that's great to.
In the left foot of sauron there was a white plastic tupe that fits around the peg in the base. I couldn't get him on the base so i turned him left and right and suddenly thet white tupe fell out of his foot. I place the tupe on the peg and took sauron to place over that tupe. He went over it not fitting completly but he doesn't move anymore so i guess he stands oke now.
If i could i would take a pic but i don't wanna mess with him again.
Regards Linda

Got mine as well but the base is damaged. :sick
I hope I can just send the base back for a replacement. The statue looks fine and considering I get quite a bit of damaged items myself, I'd hate to send back a good statue and take the risk of the replacement getting damaged.

$377.70
With comission charge included for the conversion it was £211.26.
Got mine yesterday. Opened the box to have a look but have not taken him out yet.
Can't decide if I'm going to display him or not as I'll have to put something else away to do so.

Heh.. i kind of have the same problem, but with the "Eowyn as Dernhelm" figure i received a couple of weeks ago. There is a tiny chip from the base, simular to what has happened to your base. Also, there are strange marks on the base surface as if somebody mounted the figure on the base, and then turned it like 45° -50° to the left and to the right... Very strange for a "new" item which i got straight from SSW, as a waiting list fulfillment... I don't bother returning it though.

i had originally ordered 4 ,3 of which were cancelled but due to an error in there system,i was shipped 3,the other 2 showed up the day after the first.so i now have to return two.but at least i didnt have to wait long for my replacement.

I'm relieved that I'm not the only one, although I'm sorry that you're out of luck there too. However, I'm now eagerly awaiting to read that you succeeded in widening the hole. There is no way I will turn the statue in any direction to get it on, like Linda did. I'm way to afraid that the ankle will snap - unless I get an ok from Sideshow and replacement in case the leg does break during my efforts. Compared to the rest of the statue that is definitely the weakest point.

mine needed to lean a little forward to get the peg in foot.on all 3 of them, maybe this is the key

Reading about all these "peg" problems, I just remember that I actually had a hard time getting the Eowyn figure "off" the peg, instead of on the peg. I usually unpack all my figures once to check if they are o.k. (put them on the base, etc.), and then I... put them back in the box! I don't have a descent showcase yet...
