I'd love to have it... but somehow $949 just seems a bit out of my price range :lol
I guess this means Sideshow will also sell the Serenity ship... I hope its less, but imagine it will be the same or likely more.

yeah a little high for the size...i'd love to have it but I could get so much more stuff with that money. sucks you don't know who's signing it but cool they have signatures.

I WISH I could buy it, my Wife and I are huge BSG fans. We even have authentic dog tags made up of our names and serial numbers (which is our anniversary date)... :D
I have made her into a huge BSG geek... It's awesome. I know she would love this thing, as would I, but it's too expensive. :monkey2

Its not the price that kills me, its the SIZE. I have several bust/statues that cost 1K or more, and currently have the upcoming balrog (2k!) on order, but all those pieces justified thier price because of the sheer sizes involved. A 1ft long statue is NOT worth a grand. Period.
Unless its completely made of metal, has movable parts, a detailed interior, working lights AND sounds, and then... its still too expensive.

So QMx just solicited this in their newsletter. Their justification for the price is that it's made in the US just like an actual filming model would be. Still having a hard time justifying it to my wallet.

Okay, I caved and bought this. After going to the BSG prop auction and even dogtags going for more than this piece, I figured it wasn't an outrageous price.
It doesn't come in a box, but in a grey plastic case - like they're trying to imitate the cases on the show. Mine was signed by Jamie Bamber and there's a sticker with his name on the outside of the box. Inside is a large plaque with his signature - this is 26 out of 500.
http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr01.jpg
http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr02.jpg
I really like this - the paint is very detailed, especially for something that comes off pretty much grey on the show.
The electronics are very sharp and bright - he has the moving red light in the front and blue exhaust in the rear. I kind of wish it had the scanning sound, but in space no one can hear you scan. There is no switch, you have to unplug it to turn it off. But there's a small plug a few inches from the base, so if you don't want the cord around it's not a problem. Once thing that's a bit offputting - there's just a groove on the bottom of the base for the cord - makes for easy access, but you have to adjust the cord so it sits right whenever you move it.

http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr11.jpg
http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr4.jpg
When BSG first appeared I didn't really care for the design of the cylon raider, I thought it was a bit cheesy, imitating the shape of the centurion helmet. But it really has grown on me and the smooth, almost organic design seems perfect now. I can't imagine going back to the original series SW inspired raiders.

And even though it's very smooth, there's a lot of detail, more than you see on the show.
http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr10.jpg
http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr13.jpg
I did a comparison with the studio scale efx X-wing. Of course there never were studio scale models of the raiders, they're all CG except for the 1:1 in the hangers. But this seems to be about the same scale as the x-wing. Remember Kara had to scrunch up to fit in it.
http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr14.jpg
http://sideshowcollectors.com/images/cr15.jpg
I'm really hoping they do a viper and a Galactica - but I'm afraid that the price will keep a lot of people away and other ships won't be forthcoming.

BTW, Raider looks great... how does it feel? As it is it a really light piece, or does it feel more substantial?

It doesn't feel light at all. Since the ship's design is so economical I expected it not to have any heft. But it feels very solid.

Cool, its nice when an expensive piece has a heft to it. This is bad to say, but I'm hopeful the aftermarket value will tank on these so I can afford one :lol I know that won't happen, but I can dream :lol
Congrats on the great piece, and really... share the collection, I won't make douchey comments :lecture

Nah, I wouldn't imagine they'd do a basestar that large. There is no "studio scale" on these, so the Basestar can be any size.

That is typical of bad decision making by many companies. They seem to think they can hold off on the most popular elements and yet keep a line going. Diamond Select has all but killed the 7" BSG line with some awful decision making regarding which characters to do on top of their usual slow production.
I mean even as a female fan I had minimal interest in the Gina and Kendra characters from Razor and significant interest (like most collectors) in Col. Tigh, Baltar, Athena/Boomer, etc. who have yet to be made (and may not be now according to Art Asylum).
Sideshow by contrast made an excellent decision in the GI Joe line, releasing Snake-Eyes and Cobra Commander to start. That helps build momentum.
galactiboy
03-03-2009, 08:39 AM
If they next went with a Viper then worked up to Galactica I think they'd do alright. A basestar is stretching it... could be cool, but honestly is an odd design that might not be something many would want to drop the $$$ on.

Hey guys. After watching BSG on Blu-ray, i caved and bought this too.
Arrived yesterday. I must tell Dave he lucked out and got one that was in great condition. Mine was less so.
One gun was broken.
The decals weren't complete and there was glue residue on the engine.
Onto the pictures.

Hi Dave. I really hope they can. I bought the raider mainly because I really wanted a artisan piece, one that was built and painted by specialists in the USA and not a mass produced china paint job.
I got the raider off ebay as SS didn't have stock and Qmx showed conflicting status.

Will be interesting to see how this all turns out (as someone that has the Serenity replica on order).
So even tho it was an ebay order, it was still a new, never opened or displayed item? Basically they were just a reseller, which in this case is really no different then if you did purchase from Sideshow.
As such, that means it left QMx looking like that, which sounds very strange, since like Dave said, they seem to be a real stickler for quality, especially on the replica lines.

It came sealed as far as i can tell. However, based on the edition number, mine is below 50, the rep at Qmx said mine was a very early run.
They checked the ebayer and said he was not their direct reseller. I believe they are tracing the sale route as of now.
This piece costs more than my SS 1:1 bust and i really wanted a USA paint job and not the el-china ones.
Here's crossing my fingers and toes that something can be done.

Below 50, that is an early one, since for these they usually number them in the order in which they are built.
If it was a direct QMx purchase it would be a no brainier, with luck it will still work out via an ebay purchase.
Still, will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

Qmx has customer service that goes over and beyond.
They have asked me to send the raider to the FX company. They will be refinishing the raider at NO CHARGE.

That's great news tnaig, I thought that QMx would help you out, on these replica's, the last thing they want are poor quality ones out there.
So considering it was a 3rd party purchase over ebay, your going to end up with a perfect model.
Which is all good, as my Serenity replica gets closer to being built.
