I wanted to make this so fans of the show can speak their minds and say what they think. I personally loved the 1st episode and cannot wait 'til the next one.

I thought Ron Pearlman and Katie Segal were great along with the cast leader Charlie Hunnam. I can't wait to see what goes down this season.

Has anyone else watched this yet and like it?

I saw it.

It took me a season and a half to get into The Shield, and this one seems like it will also be tough for me to get into.

I'm not feeling it from just the pilot.

interesting story line of the son finding the dad's journals and what not that described his vision of what the gang should be verses what it is now and the son wanting to maybe see his dad's vision come to light.

Woot! Glad I found this thread!

Man, this may be the best show that FX has produced next to "Rescue Me". The show is just damned amazing and of course Ron P. is the shiznitz!!!! Can't wait to see this season unravel. Just a killer story and eveything overall.

Does anyone know the timeline of the show? Can't see to place it in either the '90s or '00s.

i would think it takes place in the '00s.

maybe i was sheltered, but i don't remember ever hearing about meth (something SAMCRO kept out of Charming, pissing the Nords off) until a few years ago.

Sick Boy 82
09-18-2008, 12:36 PM
Meth has ALWAYS been huge in Central Cali and it's been moving north & south for awhile. Fresno is like the Meth capitol. When I was stationed down there, all it was on the local news was Meth busts, just left and right. So pretty much from Bakersfield to Stockton is Meth country.

Gotta find Charming! Wikipedia is my friend!

That sounds cool:
The family drama is loosely based on Shakespeare's Hamlet; with Clay in the role of King Claudius, Gemma as a Gertrude figure, and Jax standing in for Prince Hamlet himself. Narratively, the Sons are prototypical antiheroes.

I guess "Charming" is around the Oakland/East Bay area, as the Mayans are Oakland-based and the One-Niners (From "The Shield"!!) are from the East Bay. Maybe a town closer to the Nevada border or a little south.

I wasn't sure about this show from the ads, but got hooked by the first episodes (had to turn in just because Ron Perlman was in it and I find him entertaining almost across the board).

I think the Fed stalker storyline is a bit hokey and contrived, but I love the show otherwise.

That was good, but I sorta wonder if it'll come back to haunt them. They never did actually check for survivors. If one of them survived the blast (maybe wandered off into the woods to take a leak or whatever) he might just be a little ticked off at SAMCRO....

So what did you think of the Faber fight? Or the Pulver fight? I'm fairly confident you thought the same thing as the crowd during the Filho fight.

It looks like things are really heating up on SOA next week. This week's episode seemed more like a filler episode, but it did move along some character development. Highlights to watch for:

- I forgot my glasses, lol
- Now it's my turn
- You should unscrew that **** sometime.

Yeah I loved the end of this weeks episode. I didn't see that coming. He beat the crap outta her.

I thought the Faber fight was a bit disapointing because he's my favorite fighter but even the best in the world have to fall some time. I mean that's still only his second loss. Having a record of 21-2 is amazing. I'm not sweating the loss though,he'll get that belt back no doubt.

I loved the Pulver fight too but Faber whooped him bad. Faber takes care of business. I got mad respect for Pulver and how he stood toe to toe with Faber, but he got rocked.

And yeah that Filho fight was horrible. I was for Sonnen anyway.:D

SOA Trivia time: did you know that "Otto" is married to "Gemma" in real life?

And one of these Someone on "Sons of Anarchy" will die and it's not going to be a pretty sight. E! Online has reported that one major character will meet a dead end this season, particularly in the eighth episode called "Potlatch" which is airing October 27 on FX Network.

Noting that this dead is involving blood and brain, E! said that the character will be someone fans hold dearly to their heart and someone close to the club. He or she is also a character from the first season but it won't be Chibs who narrowly escaped an explosion set up to end the life of a Samcro member earlier this season. Another hint is, "this killing doesn't have a clear analogue in Shakespeare's play Hamlet".

As for the death, I'm thinking either Piney or Bobby Elvis, somebody that supports Jax. I lean towards Bobby, Zobelle probably gets wind of the fact that he's the smart one, the voice of reason amongst the club, and ices him. Well, obviously not Zobelle doing the deed, he never gets his hands dirty, but he definitely puts the hit out on him.

I've been re-watching S1 over the last two days and I picked up some fun, "Did you know?" trivia bits. . .

Opie (Ryan Hurst) was in Saving Private Ryan, he was the guy who actually knew where Pvt. Ryan was, the guy with the hearing problem. That beard makes him unrecognizable.

In the episode where they find the buried skeletons, and one of them is Lowell's (the junkie mechanic) father, Jax says something about Hale "pouring poison in Lowell's ear". It's the only time that I've noticed that there is a reference to the story of Hamlet, being that poison in the ear was how Hamlet's father, the King, was murdered. . . spoiler alert. ;) A very meta reference with SoA being loosely based on Hamlet.

And if you were curious about Chibs' scars, he got them in a bar brawl in Glasgow. Yeah, that really happened, it's called a Glasgow Grin.

Yeah it is and with this show being losely based on Hamlet that means:
Jax might end up killing Clay by the shows end because Hamlet killed his uncle

I think they are basing this story on Hamlet, but are moving it in a different direction. Because honestly, apart from the parallels that Clay is the Claudius, Gemma is Gertrude and Jax is Hamlet, Tara is Ophelia, I can't think of any other similarities that we've seen so far. Besides, everyone knows how that story goes, and I for one, would be disappointed to see Tara go crazy, Clay accidentally kill Gemma and Jax end up dead in a bar brawl with Tara's yet to be introduced brother.

All the main characters end up dead in Hamlet, I don't think SoA is that story. The Shield was depressing enough as it is, I don't think Kurt Sutter would want to do that again. This quote from him, "It's not a version of Hamlet but it's definitely influenced by it." I think Sutter took that starting point, that backstory and is going somewhere else with it.

And remember, Hamlet knew from the beginning that Claudius killed his father, the journey for vengeance was the appeal of that story. Right now, we don't even know that Clay killed John Teller. If he did, I would think Piney might speak up about it, you can't keep a secret like that buried for long, and at this point it's been 16 years. I almost wonder if that will be one of the unresolved plot lines of this show.

Morbach
10-19-2009, 05:45 PM
Another similarity is Hamlet was betrayed by his best friend (hence Opie and Jax.) But I'm not saying that he will kill Clay because after all it is "loosly" based. I'm saying that we don't know how close it will resemble Hamlet at points. So Jax killing Clay isn't out of the realm of possibilities is all I'm saying.

Morbach
10-19-2009, 05:47 PM
Oh and another similarity is Hamlet was haunted by his fathers ghost hence Jax being influenced by John from beyond the grave.

SwedishHeat
10-19-2009, 06:22 PM

Not sure who you're thinking of here, I don't remember Hamlet being betrayed by anyone. Horatio was Hamlet's best friend, and he didn't betray him. In fact, he tried to drink the poison intended for Hamlet, loyal to Hamlet till the end.

Oh and another similarity is Hamlet was haunted by his fathers ghost hence Jax being influenced by John from beyond the grave.

Yeah, that goes along with the starting point. They obviously based it on Hamlet, Claudius=Clay, Gertrude=Gemma, it's right there in the names. But Jackson (Jax) doesn't resemble Hamlet, so that's our first tip-off that this isn't your average Hamlet. I'd say we can expect Clay and Gemma to play their roles, but Jax isn't going to play the role of Hamlet, he's expressed no desire to kill Clay, that's not going to allow him to take over the club.

I'm arguing that while we can expect Jax to kill Clay. . . the hook is, that's what we expect, that's the story of Hamlet. Good TV does the last thing you expect. I think they're going to build the feud up between Jax and Clay so much that it gets beyond the breaking point, and some crazy thing is going to happen that comes out of left field, say Weston loses it and kills Clay.

Think about it, like in The Shield, you expected Vic to kill Shane, but it never happened, it builds the tension.

Say, Tara's about to rat, and Clay kills her, Jax goes to confront Clay, Clay kills Jax, and then Gemma kills Clay, they could still do the Hamlet story, but the twist is the roles are reversed, everyone dies except Opie.

Morbach
10-19-2009, 06:35 PM
Yeah those are all valid points. I just hope Jax doesn't die but that just might happen. Maybe him dying will get the club on the right track. Of course that would be like the last episode and all but I don't think Jax will die.

I know Jax talking about the True IRA will be a lingering thread. Stahl said if Jax tips off the IRA and gets them moving, ATF can pounce on them, it makes him look like a rat, taking ATF's deal. Yeah, definitely. He was introduced like he was Zoebelle's right hand man. . . but to know that Zoebelle is dealing behind his back?? It'll be fun to watch Weston flip out on Zoebelle when he realizes Zoebelle is "betraying his race". I've heard Rollins isn't signed on for the whole season, soooooo. . . .

Or maybe they were just waiting to see how he worked out as an actor.

But either way he raped Gemma so he will face a horrid payback via the Sons. Maybe after helping them they'll still kill him? :dunno

Good ep. Wasn't as good as last weeks but still consistantly good as always. The end was great wit Jax wanting to patch over. Next weeks looks fantastic AND IT'S A 90 MINUTE EP! The ratings must be great to just randomly give it a special ep like that. As always I can't wait for this week to hurry and pass. :lol

That is kinda funny. 18 minutes of ads in a 1 hour block of programming, but 35 minutes of ads in an hour and a half of programming. For an extra half hour of TV you get 15 minutes more of actual show.

And they wonder why people don't actually "watch" TV anymore. . .

It's a total joke lucky for me the stuff i get has all the crappy ads removed but when i watch uk tv i can't get into the show because of the ad breaks so i sky+ them so i can fastforward through them.

I thought it was interesting towards the end, they way they set up the shot, they gave Jax the choice of picking up the gun or his patches. That choice says a lot, that the MC is more important than revenge.

Morbach
11-11-2009, 06:06 PM
Sure. Jax wanted to switch charters and Gemma didn't want him to but everyone else did. They took a vote and Jax was voted out. Gemma told Jax and Clay to meet at the house so they did. And she told them what happened to her and it got Jax and Clay back on the same page. Jax isn't leaving now, he is stay and the club is going after Zobelle and his crew.

I'm pretty sure Jax is smart enough to know he'll need more than just a handgun to get revenge. :D

What I was wondering was what was Piney going to do? They made a point of showing him staring at his gun on the table.

"Corm, corm, corm!"

The other thing that I thought was interesting was the way in which the club voted. They told us it had to be a unanimous vote, and everyone voted 'yay', but the body language of everyone in the room was saying 'nay'. It's like they were just giving their brother what he wanted, despite how they felt about it.

I didn't see it that way at all....wasn't that Clay's gun by the patches? If so, why would he take Clay's gun?

It was just a metaphor. The camera was fixed on that little box by the door, with the gun and his patches, with Jax walking into the frame. It was just showing that Jax had two options, he could grab a gun and make some violence, or grab his patches and stick with the club.

jimjimmyjones85
11-13-2009, 07:14 AM
I don't think it was that deep. The decision upon seeing it was his decision to now remain.

We all know the violence is coming.

Hence the "We Kill Them All" line.

I agree. All this Kitty Kat Footing around all season... It's time for some action !

I thought it was a cool touch when Jax touched Clay's shoulder ...

Why do you think he left though... just to give them some time together probably?

Morbach
11-13-2009, 09:47 AM
Yeah, I think he needed to clear his own head and emotion and knew they needed the same thing. Gemma got them back on the same page now so it'll be great when they start whooping ass!

 You're reading way too much into that. Jax ALWAYS carries a gun on him. So there would be no reason for him to pick up another gun and as 316what pointed out, it was Clay's gun.

That shot and it's meaning was simple: Jax could've just left and stuck with his decision to go nomad, seeking revenge on his own for what happened to his mom. Or he could swallow his pride, take his patches back and remain with SAMCRO and seek revenge with his "family". He chose the latter. Which is typical: nothing brings a family closer together than tragedy. Which was Gemma's intention for finally telling Jax and Clay about her being brutally gang raped.
