No doubt they'd be amazing figures, but something that I will easily pass on.

I see Hot Toys wants my other kidney.

More seriously, can you imagine how insane a HT Sentinel would be?

Are there many examples of HT doing one-off collctibles, or does his mean we might get officially licensed 1:6 stuff?

Wor-Gar

WOW!

I need this line.

Got the old, old HT Neo. Would love to get an upgraded set of Neo, Trinity, Morpheus and Agent Smith.

The sequels took the steam out of the original unfortunately...but the first Matrix was one of the best films of the 90's! (and it's a very short list)

Fortunately, I only care about a nice, high end Neo in the right costume, trench coat is the ideal, so even if there's a slew of 1/6, I can pass on all but him, unless Trin looks hot cuz I have a thing for her :lol

Meh. The wheels came off that bus a long time ago for me. Pass.

Then you need Smith to stand against them...

Then you might as well get Morpheus...

And then you're in!

No one can tell you what the Matrix is...

Ok, I take it back, Smith would be clutch too, I'd totally pose a Neo-Smith battle, "I know Kung Fu", but Morpheus I can pass on, not particularly a fan of any of his looks to buy a figure. Good vs Evil and hotty is my buying choices :)

The Mike

It wouldn't surprise me if they did Matrix figures but I'd definitely get at minimum get

Morpheus:

Neo:

and Agent Smith:

but only in these Matrix: Reloaded versions.

I've actually got decent Neo and Trinity figures from Reloaded courtesy of Triad Toys, so Morpheus really tops my list. I'd love to see what HT could do with the croc-skinned long coat of his.

I'd be hard pressed to pass up anything from this line. This is/would be close to a dream license from Hot Toys for me.

HT The Dark Knight, HT DC Heroes, HT Matrix

Broke broke broke. . .

What makes us think there's Matrix figures anyway?

Because their logo is on the DVD package release? Maybe they just made that ship?

I'm all for it -- I hope it happens.

Ooooh, 10 post from 10,000!

It would seem odd for them to just do a model of the hovercraft and that be it, and the old unlicensed Neo figue would seem to indicate they have internal interest in the project.

I'm going out on a limb and speculate perhaps Hot Toys made some wide-ranging deal with Warner Brothers recently?

This may not amount to any 1:6 stuff, but I certainly hope this is what his will mean....

Wor-Gar

Too big. I still don't know where to put my Power Loader.

I'd rather have characters. If I get a vehicle, it's gonna be Trinity's Ducati.

http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=1620

That would certainly make the Power Loader feel inferior, though I shudder to think how much an APU would cost. A Sentinel would be bad enough.

I'd love the Ducati. I've got a 1:6 New Ray 998 that I'm thinking of trying to paint up like Trin's bike. The aftermarket price on the GG 1:6 statue of Trin with the bike is certainly pretty healthy.

In any case, I would think the market would cerainly be there for Neo, Trinity, Morpheus and Smith in 1:6, possibly with multiple versions. None of those figures would require much R & D, and HT has shown they're willing to tackle smaller properties with limited capacity for sales (how many Prison Break figures could they possibly have sold?); even today, I think The Matrix could do quite well for them.

I think bigger stuff is much iffier prospect and would actually require a fair amount of R&D, but if the sales are solid for hypothetical 1:6 figures we could very well see some larger items.

Which New Ray version? Red or Yellow?

The Yellow one (I know the film bike is actually a 996, but hell, Ducati's "official The Matrix Reloaded" version bike was a 998).

The only thing stopping me now is I'm not sure how well my kitbashed Trinity's outfit would hold up to being posed on it (I've got a Medi Trinity outfit on a Soldier's Story body for better posability).

A guy named Customdawg repainted a yellow New Ray Ducati for his Trinity and it looked great. I've always wanted to do it...this thread has got me excited again.

Google 'customdawg Trinity' and you'll see his bike.

I say go for it. I can live vicariously.

I'd like to think they're not really that bothered by it since HT is now one of their closest business partners. Sideshow obviously knows good product when they see them, as they import so many of HT's figures and (as you know) had them codesign their 1:6 Hobbit and armored bodies. If anything, I bet this has helped spur Sideshow to up their own game and led us to things like armored Obi-Wan, Snake Eyes, Indy, etc. etc.

Really? That's funny, I did not know that. I used to chat with him via email long ago when I first got into collecting 1/6th.

Anyway, his work was mostly impressive back then. And painting that bike is key for you. And you're right, it should be dark, dark green.

I like that touch of green in things. I always preferred Agent Smith when he had the greenish suit and was just an agent... not so much when he became the black-suitted virus.

Best villain since Hans Gruber at the time.

Getting ahead of myself here, but how cool would it be if they did manage to make Smith's suit ever-so-slightly green tinted?

In any case, I'd like to see Smith maybe come with two headsculpts, one with the earpiece, one without.

My wife read this over my back and said "Oh crap, there goes more money to HT." She is really hoping that the HT rumors of Matrix and Hellboy aren't true because she knows I'd have to get some figures from both. Its not the money that she is worried about mind you its the fear that as my space becomes less and less she is afraid that everything will leak into the house from the office. :lol

Better yet: headsculpt with removable earpiece. HT could do that easy.

I had planned to hack the head off my GG Smith bust and make a 1/6th figure -- got the suit, holster, Desert Eagle -- and yes, even a little earpiece wire and all.

Not sure why people have written off "The Matrix". It really is a great movie. The sequels hurt, but I'm surprised so many people "got over" the original film. It's a great reinvention of the same mythology that Star Wars reinvented so well into a modern anti-machine myth.

People are fickle. Myself I think it is the seminal sci-fi film of the 90s and will stand the test of time.

I seem to remember people did the same thing with the Aliens franchise after the last two films. Hell, look at how Star Wars was viewed in the late 80s.

The true classics always come back around, so maybe The Matrix is due for its resurgence soon.

The Matrix is a funny thing. I wasn't too impressed really with the first one. I remember watching it in the theaters and liking the effects but not really becoming a fan. Something about the second really made me like that particular film although its hated by a lot of Matrix fans. Never even saw the third. I would be a fickle fan and still would love a few things from this license and I'm sure die-hards would eat this alive. I have no doubts that these will sell without issue.

Yeah well the thing to me is that the first one has a totally different feel to it then the other movie's.
I mean I don't think that the Wachowski's were even gonna make 2 and 3 since the first one has that weird ending and then all of a sudden they had to change the story since they could make 2 and 3 after all.

I like all of them though, although the first one will always be my favourite.

I never really dug the original Matrix movie, I was surprised they made two sequels to it.

When the original came out, there was such hype. People used to say funny stuff like how it totally changed their outlook on life and reality and crap like that.

Then the two sequels came out and then all the hype slowly died away.

If Hot Toys really do release the APU, then I will have to cut down from 3 meals a day to 2 meals or even 1 meal a day so that I can get at least 2 pc of those APUs!

I remembered I was struck by how awesome the APUs were in the movie and until today, I am still in love with this very cool piece of equipment!

Now you see - the fans of Matrix will no doubt already have the films on DVD and Im guessing thats who they targeting

Why make it a DVD holder with the same DVD's in it ??

I just dont understand why they think that would be more attractive than something that hasnt already been produced ?

Id like it but why do I have to pay for it plus another set of copies of DVD's I already own FFS !

It's The Matrix on Blu-Ray. You knew it was coming. It's not really DVDs you already own.

All those HDDVDs are going to be re-released on Blu-Ray sooner or later.

Oh yeah, and don't get too excited about this, it's possible it could be region-exclusive like that Alien head box set for the Quadrilogy a few years back. It wouldn't surprise me considering how big the Nebuchannezzar looks to be in that pic. I wouldn't be surprised if it's $200+, and I can't imagine Best Buy or Wal-Mart stocking that on their shelves

Just re-watched the entire trilogy for a paper i'm writing on Bill Pope for my cinematography class. I'd forgotten how much I loved these movies. Yes, I said Movies, Plural. I loved all three of them, it's so Rare we get to see a tragedy any more, and beleive it or not that's what these were. The hero dies saving the world, his love dies
first, he is blinded, tormented, etc. I realy really loved it. Also noticed ALOT of symbolism with the glasses, something i'd never noticed before.
Whenever Morphius is acting the part of "the profit" his glasses have Very clear reflections "photoshopped" into them. the lense on the left of the screen, depicting the real world ( The red pill, Neo in danger in the woman in red scene, Neo as a person) and the one on the right of the screen depicting the matrix ( The blue pill, NO gun pointed at neo in the woman in red scene, and The battery) It's very VERY subtle, but IT's one of those things I loved.

One thing I got to say, I lived the entire trilogy, From beginning to end, even if it was never intended to be a trilogy, and there is only one, ONE thing I would ever have changed. At the end of Revolutions, I would have had Smith win.

Back on topic, I do hope HT makes some 1/6 figures, I'd get the whole line, no doubt.

Well, through Babelfish, it says it's limited production, set to go out December 17 translation from yen amount to US dollars is about $350. As far as I can tell it says nothing about figures.

I'd be up for Morpheus, especially, and Agent Smith, Neo and maybe Trinity to a somewhat lesser degree. The Twins would also be pretty cool. Heck, a lot of these characters would be cool.

I am with you 100%. Well, 99% - I wouldn't change the ending. But these are very, very smart films, and they will stand the test of time.

I'd take:

Neo (Matrix, guns, lots of guns)
Neo (Reloaded, sword, sai)
Trinity (Matrix, Lobby scene)
Trinity 2 (either beginning of Matrix, Reloaded motorcycle, or beginning of Revolutions)
Morpheus(Reloaded, glock 18, katana)
Agent Smith (desert eagle, 2 head sculpts)
Twin (2 head sculpts, HK UMP, straight razor)

That would be my list too.
Although I'd only want Trinity in Reloaded Motorcycle outfit for the second Trinity.
I was just looking over Triad Toy's offerings today and realized they gave us pretty much 90% of Trinity's outfit and Neo's outfit from the first film; and 95% of Neo's outfit from Reloaded. The only thing you'd be missing for the first films are the Guns, thigh holsters, and head sculpts. Hopefully they'll give us double thigh holsters sometime in the future, no one has released a left handed thigh holster for females.

I don't think this means anything for 1/6th - it could just be a one off commission from WB for the DVD set. But that's an awesome DVD holder - when I first saw it I assumed it was just a little ornament size to go with the set - not that the DVDs would actually go in it.

Are Blu-ray encoded to regions? Or might these play in a US Playstation 3?

For some reasons the powers that be still can not live in a world without regions so even Blu-Ray movies are locked in place, some aren't but most are. :(

They also have a website but I don't see any Matrix figures there.

They have unofficial costumes there.
Take these:
http://www.triadestore.com/eyespy-male-p-1973.html
Add this:
http://www.triadestore.com/knight-runner-male-p-1976.html
And this:
http://www.triadestore.com/nexus-male-black-holster-p-1941.html
And you have 90% of Neo's costume from the first movie. All you need is his boots, waist belt, thigh holsters and a lot of guns.

For Trinity from the first movie, all you need is this:
http://www.triadestore.com/eyespy-female-p-1972.html

For Neo from Reloaded, you'll need either the Male Chosen One outfit and their sai set, or the full Chosen one figure set they made awhile ago called Theodore which also had a Keanu looking head sculpt. Both are not listed on Triad's website anymore, here's what the Theodore figure looked like:

Anyone have the Theodore DXF with the leather coat? opinions?

Yep I've got the triad leather jacket neo.

Head sculpt is pretty good & so is the paint job...

The figure comes with shoes, leather pants, leather trench coat, metal sunglasses, a pair of sais. No shirt.

The body that Triad Toys uses has bendy hands which is probably the best feature of the whole body, because the other aspects aren't very good. The body doesn't pose very well & the clothes doesn't look very good on it.

I've since repalced it with a hot toys truetype body & it looks so much better now...if you guys are interested in pics with a hot toys body let me know, i'll go get the cam.

The sunglasses are decent... but not as good as the ones made for Medicom Neo (i've got both). The problem with the sunglasses is that it is too flat & it doesn't hug the head; so the sleekness is lacking... also, the metal is quite tough to bend so it would be really difficult to bend the thing uniformly.

Finalyl, as for the clothing itself, the pants are quite tight so extreme leg poses are difficult.
Trench coat is well done..tight due to the leather material & the styling of the costume in general, but i'm still able to get credible upperbody movement. But having said that, I wouldn't recommend leaving the arms posed in awkward positions to long as I suspect it might leave marks on the leather.

I don't care if I have to re-purchase the DVD's. That model ship looks amazing with it's light-up features.

1/6th figures would be fantastic as well, but it's the ship and possible sentinel that has me most excited about Hot Toys' license.

PF's of the characters would be fantastic if SS were to do them. I'd prefer them over the 1/6th line. Neo in fighting pose, Morpheus sitting in his leather chair and Trinity with two uzi's. Sweet!*

*All from the first film.

For the record, I throughly enjoyed all three matrix movies, and the only way i could have enjoyed them even more is if the brothers Wachowski had taken the hard route, and turned the films into a REAL tragedy ( it borderline is with many of the main characters dying) And have Smith win, and purge the world at the end of all life but his own, so that he would at last, have peace.

also, I liked the reloaded/revolutions neo costumes more. it just fealt more... streamlined.

Only if they make the Twins and the Merovingian. Otherwise, I don't think so. I doubt HT's (potential) Matrix line would be that extensive anyway.

Nope, my guess is if they do a 1/6 line, we get Smith and variants of Neo, Morpheus and Trinity, possibly other agents, but none of them really stood out, it'd just be generic guys in suits, and none of the other characters really have figure selling powere, cool in film, but not enough thousands of people would spend $150+ on figures of them, at least I don't think, who knows.

Even though I would love stuff from the first Matrix, I just need this Neo:

Smith, Morpheus and Trinity are definite buys as well....I wouldn't mind a variant Neo that had this paintjob either:

:rock thats the one i want from Hot Toys...but ill get any that they make, all variants of Neo, Smith, Morpheus, Trinity, and i would buy a Persephone if they ever made one

That, and how Neo was CG most of the time in the sequels. Bullet time smashed my tiny mind into tinier pieces in the first film.

I'm crossing my fingers for the twins.

I think we are absolutely guaranteed:

Neo
Trinity
Agent Smith

likely:
Morpheus
Twins

Hope for hope's sake:
Oracle's guardian
Sentinel

There are a lot of great options for characters but I know there is a limit to how many figures they will push for given the age of the films and demand for product. Of course, the first prototype will hit and we will all go bonkers anyway.

Neo screams the DX Treatment. I could see them offering a Matrix head, Reloaded/Revolutions head and costuming from all three films.

We'll get a Morpheus, Trinity and Smith without question but past that will be the interesting part, HT isn't known for this depth in most lines so just getting a Neo from Matrix, Neo from Reloaded/Revolutions plus the other three (not to mention that variants exist from Morpheus and Trinity even from film to film) would be line filling enough.

DPrime
07-16-2009, 07:44 AM
I think I'd be fine with just Neo and Trinity from the first film, and Morpheus, either from the first or second (preferably both), as well as Agent Smith.

The nice thing with Agent Smith is that they could include several heads - normal & pissed off Smith, and a couple of heads from the other agents. You could army-build if you were so inclined (and wealthy).

I actually prefer the Neo from the second movie...his outfit was cooler...but I'll take either :)

As far as merchandise not selling well, HT caters to a market a little different then the average - Adult collectors in a niche market. You really think these would sell worse than Predator? or Rambo? I think not. If they make them in similar numbers, they WILL sell out. It's a perfect addition to the "cult classics" that HT focuses on.

Not a very good image... the sculpt does look like Neo, but is soft being an older figure and unlicensed. The outfit is nice (wire in the coat) and accessories are good as well. Could use a better body though. But for being an early HT figure its pretty nice, party of their "Famous Type" series.

Except going by the photo, I think the APU is about 2 times the size of the Power Loader, and even the Power Loader is huge to be on display, I think the APU would be almost 3 and half feet tall.
