Well!!!! The 2 Jokers and Wayne/Bale heads were an unexpected overwhelming success and all have shipped. Kuato has done a fantastic job making them look perfect with his amazing paint apps! You can still order copies at $35.00 per head plus $5.00 shipping for an unpainted casting.
So, now I'm moving on to the rest of the Dark Knight heads: Alfred Pennyworth, Harvey Dent/ Two-Face, Jim Gordon, and Lucius Fox. After this set I may do a Cillian Murphy as Crane/Scarecrow and Liam Neeson as Henri Ducard if there is enough interest.
If you would like to order any or all of these heads, please send me an email with "Dark Knight" as the subject. Then state your screen name, real name, heads you would like and quantities of each, painted by Kuato or unpainted, neck drilled or not and finally your shipping address.
My email address for orders and PayPal payments is sculpt@chowes.com. Please also note your screen name in your payment so I can cross reference.
You can copy and paste this in you email to use this as your template:
Screen Name: (your screen name here)
Real Name: (your real name here)
Shipping Address: (your address here)

To keep things simple, from now on, my standard SSF precasting discount price will be $20.00 per head. This is a significant discount over the eventual full price of $35.00 per head. The drilled neck option is $5.00 per head. Shipping will be $5.00 shipping in th US ( up to 4 heads, add $1 for every head over that ) for unpainted heads from me and $7.00 for international shipping. If you are having Kuato paint yours, do not send shipping charges to me. I will send a large batch of heads for painting to Kuato, so you only need pay him for shipping.
However, Kuato has requested that you NOT send him any money until these heads are ready to go. He's got a lot on his plate now, too! But I will keep the record of whether you want the painting option.
Since this is a personal project without the usual assured minimum number of committed buyers it will be an extended time until all are done. Other projects with lots of folks will take center stage, but these WILL be done!! If only for me...
As orders come in I will post a chart with order info and payment status. Refresh your browser to see the latest version.
Thanks, I'm pretty excited about these heads! A whole Dark Knight collection.....

Put me down for one of each Chris! At least tentativley. 4 Heads could be quite pricey! Any chance of a super discount for those that want all 4? Or ordered the Jokers?
I'm pretty sure I want Alfred at the very least though, but I know it will be hard to resist the other three.
Any chance your Gordon could come with (removable) glasses? Or at least the frames? I know adding lenses could be tricky/pricey as well.

Iwas thinking about a "Buy-em-all" price. Let me give it some thought.
I thought I'd sculpt the glasses frames in place with open lenses like I did for Austin Powers
http://www.chowes.com/human/images/Austin_Powers_jpg.jpg
I think it could work at this scale, but I'll need to experiment. Lenses could be cast from clear resin, but that would be kind of labor intensive and I want to keep the price reasonable.

Not sure if I should do just a Two-Face or a normal Dent too. Thoughts?
If I start with normal Dent, then I could modify to be Two-Face....

I think open lenses is just fine, but I think most of us would prefer to have them removable if at all possible. It would add to the realism. Plus he didn't have long hair like Austin Powers to hide the glasses into. I think it would look fairly obvious they are attached unlike Austin.

Normal Dent. I'm sure Hot Toys will be making Two-Face. And like you said, if you start with Normal Dent, you can always go back and make Two-Face if we so desire. :D
Plus, not a lot of Two-face reference available right now, so waiting would definatley be better.

Well, this section gets more exposure, and the Admins allow it here to get a start. After a certain point they will likely move it to customs like they did with the last one.
Sorry for any confusion!

while true, i cant afford to buy more hot toys figures and new headsculpts on top of that. this is all a matter of money for me at this point. its why i always order custom sculpts unpainted. then in the future when i have the money to finally get them painted i can do so.

That's why I'm trying to keep these very reasonable for everyone here at SSF. I'm selling these for $35.00 each elsewhere, but I want to get them into people's hands here for essentially half that. I truly appreciate the enthusiasm and passion and downright friendliness of the people here and it's my way of saying "Thanks!"
And Kuato really stepped up to the plate with his pricing on painting these heads. He really should be charging twice what he is considering the amount of work that will go into each of these. Joker ain't easy!! Thank you Kuato.
Doing our best to help stretch those hard earned dollars as far as possible while providing the highest quality product we can. :D:D:D:D:D

I couldn't have said it better Chris. I had no problem offering a discounted painting service for these because the FREAKS here keep the hobby going and everyone deserves a break in price once and awhile, and Quality will not suffer regardless of the price. I have to thank you as well Chris, these price breaks for members are awesome.

Hey!
Licky Joker is wrapping up and will be posted shortly in the other thread.
So I'm ramping up to do these guys. I'm working out a more organized chart to indicate what heads each of you wants, plus options. I'll have that up in a day or 2.
Just wanted to update y'all!
Hey Chris, forgive me for not checking the rest of the threads to find out, but what would I need to do to get one of the heads from you? I may want one unpainted, but then again I might want Kuato to paint one up for me. I'm just not sure how to go about it.

Hello and welcome aboard!
Here's the Discounted pricing breakdown from the original Joker and Bruce Wayne post. The discount price for these three heads will end in a few days.
UNPAINTED HEADS
1) ONE unpainted head (Bale/Wayne, Ledger/Joker Stern Look, or Ledger/Joker Licking Lips) = $20.00 + $5.00 shipping within the USA.
2) TWO unpainted heads (any combination of the three different heads) = $35.00 + $5.00 shipping within the USA.
3) THREE unpainted heads = $55.00 + $5.00 shipping within the USA.
Kuato (Chris C.) has kindly agreed to a sculpt/paint combo for those who are interested. If you choose to have Kuato paint your heads you will only pay for shipping once, so the painted prices would be as follows:
PAINTED HEADS
1) ONE painted head = $20.00 for the SCULPT + $25.00 for PAINT WORK which INCLUDES shipping. TOTAL = $45.00
2) TWO heads (one set) = $35.00 for the SCULPTS + $45.00 for PAINT WORK which INCLUDES shipping. TOTAL = $80.00
3) THREE heads = $55.00 for the SCULPTS + $65.00 for PAINT WORK which INCLUDES shipping. TOTAL = $120.00
Please send the PayPal payment for the SCULPTS ONLY to my PayPal address, info@chowes.com
Please send the PayPal payment for the PAINT WORK ONLY to Kuato's PayPal address, cmatcaraveo@yahoo.com
Great, thanks. I saw some of Kuato's work last night and now I'm mulling over getting one painted, too. Let me go blow some money on Blu-rays, then I'll get back with ya soon. :)
Ok, so when I Paypal you, I obviously give you my address and such I suppose.
Then, when I Paypal Kuato, I assume I give him my address and how I want it painted?

If I'm not too burned out on Dark Knight later on Scarecrow is a possibility!
The others are coming along. I'm approaching this a bit differently than the last few. This is how I used to like to work in the commercial world, I work on multiple projects at one time. That way I get a fresh eye and don't get too fatigued on any one head.
I'll post some photos soon as I get one far enough along.... that will be a few days from now.

Now that I have a few of these under my belt and see the pitfalls of poor organization  so I've come up with a much better less random system that I'm also employing with my Summer Glau commission. Summer Glau commission. (http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41471)
If you would like to order any or all of these heads, please send me an email with "Dark Knight" as the subject. Then state your screen name, real name, heads you would like and quantities of each, painted by Kuato or unpainted, neck drilled or not and finally your shipping address.

To keep things simple, from now on, my standard SSF precasting discount price will be $20.00 per head. This is a significant discount over the eventual full price of $35.00 per head. The drilled neck option is $5.00 per head. Shipping will be $5.00 shipping in th US ( up to 5 heads, add $1 for every head over that ) for unpainted heads from me. Check with me for international shipping (should be about the same).
I need to confirm Kuato's price for these and will update it soon.
The full price will be in effect fat the point when I begin casting. Any order placed AFTER the cut off date will be charged the full price of $35.00 per head. Shipping and neck drilling remain the same price.
As orders come in I will create a chart with order info that I will post like I eventually did with the Joker and Wayne heads.
I will be working on these heads concurrently, but will be finishing them at different times. I will try to stick to the order above. I will also try to get them all done in a fairly speedy fashion so you won't have to wait too long to get your orders!
A note about neck drilling: I will drill out the neck wide and deep enough to accept any neck joint. Simply custom fit your neck joint by filling the cavity (with epoxy putty for a permanent fit or sticky tack for a removable solution) and insert your neck joint until it is fully potted in. then remove any excess material that has been squeezed out during the process.
Thanks, I'm pretty excited about these heads! A whole Dark Knight collection.....

So what do you guys think would be the best body for Alfred and Gordon? The HT Truetype would be way too built in my opinion, and as far as I'm aware they aren't selling the new smaller body developed for Michael Jackson. Any suggestions on clothing too?

For Alfred Ignite had a "chubby" body with their last samurai fig. But Soldier Story just released a fig with a "fat suit" you could probably use on alot of bodies.
Hey Chris did you figure out how your gonna go about doing the glasses, or are getting a sculpt without them?

But Michael Caine isn't fat - he might have a slight middle-aged paunch and a bit of the old "turkey neck" going on, but I wouldn't be putting a fat suit on any figure meant to be him. He's tall (6'2") and of average build (actually looking pretty good for a guy in his 70's!)

I just finalized Summer Glau, now I need to finish up a few points on our ol' buddy Alfred.
As it usually does, my day job (which peskily refuses to limit itself to the daytime despite orders to do so) has reared it's ugly head and demanded FAR too much time. Once again, I find myself being in the position of having to pull a manufacturer's butt out of the fire by making up for lost time and correcting problems which originated with Chinese factory sculptors.... ( a theme in my life, sigh...) So, my well laid plans to be done with poor little Alfred are scuttled.:tap

I have Alfred 90% ready to show. I've been slammed with a gigantic steaming pile if commercial work (which I hate, but pays the bills) that is taking me away from devoting the time needed for my custom work (which I love).

Chris, it is us (me in this case) just being a little antsy. As with all of us, there are 'mitigating circumstances' that arise from nowhere at the most inopportune time. And dealing with sickness on top of that makes it that much worse.
So please take my (our) antsy-ness as excitement :blissy and not any form of pressure whatsoever.
For that matter, I need to let Chris C. know how 'antsy' I am about getting my heads painted. :naughty

Not yet, lforigno. This line is sort of a personal thing, not as many people are interested (Though I sure am!!) so it's been languishing while I get some other things done. But it looks like we are getting some sudden interest!
I've promised to have Gordon ready for critique late next week, and Alfred is already far along, though not ready for review. I'm a perfectionist, after all. :D
I hope to pull off a neat trick with Gordon's glasses being sculpted in place, but looking natural. If it works it will be a cool new way of integrating elements like glasses. Won't work with wire rims, but will with anything more substantial.

Hey Chris I was going to place an order for Alfred but wanted to know exactly how much. I know it is 20 until a certain date then I wanted it drilled for an extra 5 dollars and painted by kuato. So would I pay you just 25 dollars and then Kuato will invoice us the money he charges for the head painting and shipping back to us. Or do we pay you the 5 dollars for shipping for a total of 30 dollars??? Also do you happen to know how much Kuato charges for painting??? thanks so much and I cant wait.

Howdy! You sent the right amount. Kuato will charge for shipping since I will be sending one big shipment of heads to him, so that saves a few bucks. I'll announce When I send them to him, that's when you will need to let him know your order and pay him. I'll need to see if his discount is still open on Alfred the first 10 of each head is $30.00 plus shipping to paint. After 10 they are full price, $45.00 plus shipping. It's first come first serve. I'll check to see where you are on the list.

payment sent, christoph! i realise these will be a while yet. which is cool, coz it gives me time to gather outfit ideas. maybe the saturday toys SWAT outfit for gordon. need a bow tie for foxy too.
once these are done, a scarecrow and ducard would be great. doesn't look like we'll be seeing any from hot toys. maybe ryan could do us a cool suit and mask for dr. crane. and a ninja training outfit for ducard. that would make for some unbelievable and accurate begins figures.

Yeah, the way Kuato likes to stay organized is for us to wait until I send a set of heads to him, then we pay him for that particular head. Did I say that in a way that makes sense? I'm too tired to make sense right now! :D

http://www.triadestore.com/images/multiple_images/1570.jpg
http://www.triadestore.com/images/multiple_images/1577.jpg
..The clothes fit a lot TIGHTER. Now, for Bruce Wayne, etc. that's a good look.. but for a LT. Gordan kitbash.. I doubt you'd want the coat to fit that tight. Just a heads up.
Deckard
01-27-2009, 04:43 PM
It's not tighter, he has a stand running all the way up the back that is pulling the coat back and making it look tighter. I know because I have that same set on a custom Two-Face im working on.
Devil_666
01-27-2009, 04:46 PM
Then why do the pants look tighter?
aussieinnyc
01-27-2009, 09:00 PM
Pants look the same to me, but that coat definitely is stretched tighter around the pecs (not saying it 's not a good fit, it's just quite tight)
If you're trying to replicate Gary Oldman as Gordon, I don't know why you'd want Gordon on a true-type anyway. The broad-shouldered, narrow waist is right for Bale, acceptable for Eckhart, and completely wrong for Oldman. When I eventually get around to creating a Gordon, I'll be putting him on a prometheus from Indy.
lerath666
01-27-2009, 10:35 PM
That might be a good call there. i was actualy planning on getting one of the up and comming slim truetypes however.
aussieinnyc
01-27-2009, 10:53 PM
Probably an even better option. But since I don't know when/if the slim true-type will be released on its own, and I plan on swapping out my Indy body for a true-type anyway, I figure I might as well use the leftover prometheus for Gordon (or maybe Alfred).
PapitoMX
01-28-2009, 12:12 AM
yup, right now I have the coat on a Pro Body too. Hopefully someone might put up a loose HT Michael Jackson Slim Body up soon on ebay?? Also I'm thinking about picking up one of the new triad omega body too. They look slim enough to pull it off. We'll see.
lerath666
01-28-2009, 12:27 AM
You don't want the jackson body, the neck won't take a head with a sculpted neck. you need to wait on a generic one.
Devil_666
01-28-2009, 01:35 AM
Pants look the same to me,
To me, on the Dragon body (!?) the pants look almost like bell bottoms. But on the TT.. they're snug at the bottom and throughout the legs.
aussieinnyc
01-28-2009, 03:11 AM
Hmm, I see what you mean about the pants looking bigger on the triad body at the bottom. Does that mean Bruce has fat ankles? :D
I think maybe it's just a futzing issue - the fit around the thigh looks pretty similar to me, maybe the true-type has longer legs which is changing how the pant bottom falls around the shoe or something. No idea, really!

Personally, I actually don't care to find "movie accurate" coat suit. Plus it is hard to find a decent coat. Like I said before, this coat is very "thin" and feels a bit fragile which it was not what I expected when I ordered it. But it is what it is, and I like to be a bit more "original" when it comes to making up the body for Chris' Sculpts. Hopefully I can get a decent suit to put under this coat.

sooo Chris, how's that Gordon sculpt coming?
Good!! :D Actually, I'm experimenting with my approach to molding the glasses in place. Little more complicated than I had hoped, but I'll get it to work right in the end and it will look quite cool (knock on wood).
In the mean time....
If you want to see the development of a head from start to finish take a look over in the Hugh Laurie thread (http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45265&page=53).
I usually never show the early stages of a sculpt, but some folks have been requesting to see these stages, so this is a one time thing!!
Anyway, take a look....

That's where my ear went! Give that back! :D
Yes, I'm sculpting them in place, but trying to make them look real and separate. I'd like to be able to cast the head and glasses together from a single mold. I'm attempting to use paper thin webbing that will easily be removed with an exacto blade to let them "float" on the face. I used this technique to allow a tendril of hair to fall in front of the Joker's face to nice effect. This is much more complicated to get right, however. If I can't do it satisfactorily, I'll make the glasses as a separate casting to be glued in place.
The lenses will be open, but I will have a little ledge on the inner frame into which you can glue a piece of clear cellophane or polyethylene (like from "blister" packaging) cut to size. Should make passable lenses.

Off topic: are you planning to do the same with GB Egon?

Is it too late to be added to the list for a Gordon?
Ya, I know he wears a shorter coat in the film, but I'm not going for a strictly TDK Look.

I'm going for a more generic, all-purpose Gordon, as well.

I got a PM back from him yesterday and said he was reworking some elements to make him more oldman like. I think it will be worth the wait plus it give me time to get his cloths and accesories in order
