ever wonder how many people are like us and willing to dish out $100+ for a single figure? when did you first make the jump to the "big leagues" of cashing out for a single figure and why?

I still havent spent more than 100 dollars for a figure. All I have right now is a spiderman 3 venom I got for 75 dollars. I still cant come up with the courage to buy a figure for over 100 bucks but that will all change once the Medicom Sweeney Todd and Batman come out :joy

HT Batman Begins v.1 made me take the leap. Shipping and all it cost me about $180 back then....:monkey4

I used to collect the Hasbro Star wars figures, I have all the main characters apart from Chewie, who I still haven't got yet. I started collecting the Wizkids Horrorclix figures, but I always really liked 1/6th scale figures.
Sooooo, I was browsing through some toy sites and came across MWCTOYS.......and the rest is history.
First was HT RPD Leon, i think he was about £90 shipped from HK.

what is the average age around here? I hear stories of wives and such so im interested. I always have trouble finding funds to buy the figures I want, what about you guys? Do you guys set a limited every year or what because it seems like too many good things are coming out at the end of this year all at once. (HT Dark Knight Line, Iron Man, etc)

I would have to say Medicom Batman Begins figure followed by their Luke Skywalker. After that I have lost track between Medicom, Sideshow, Hot Toys and DCD. I will say I had an awakening when I was willing to buy Medicom's Spider-Man 2 for $255 shipped. I don't think I will be willing to go that high again for one figure. But hey I'm young, no woman or child to worry about... just that wonderful text book bill.

For me in came in 2's, first Sideshow's T-1000 & T-800, then shortly after that Sideshow's Friday the 13th 6 & 7.
However even shortly after that my interests shifted to Hot Toys and i've never looked back. The first time I passed the $100 mark was my HT Rocky IV piece, $120 delivered. The most i've ever spent was about $215 for the Takara Bats delivered and after a bastard customs fee too.

Mines was HT Wolf Predator. Now I got all the Hot Toys Batman toys on order including the vehicles. A few years back I was always debating if I should purchase Medicoms Naked Snake on ebay below $140. Back then I thought that was insane for a figure. Still no luck on finding one for a decent price.

My first was Hot Toys Aliens Ripley, $113 shipped. Since I collect other toys, paying over $100 for a toy isn't out of the ordinary for me. Though admittedly I think these six scale figures are starting to get too expensive and I might have to quit this hobby soon.

I started with Sideshow Jedi Luke when they got the license. I'm 32 and have been collecting Hasbro Star Wars my whole life. I remember feeling ashamed to be buying the Power Of the Force figures when they first came out, but my girlfriend at the time was like"you love Star Wars, why feel stupid?" That philosophy has stuck with me since, but I only buy what I want and I'm an opener. My first Hot Toys was their AVP Alien and now collect Sideshow Star Wars, Hot Toys Batman, Hot Toys Aliens thats pretty much it. A few Hasbro SW things, but they kind of lost me. I do have a girlfriend now that wishes I didn't spend so much on these but understands that I'm a dork at heart and feel likes it keeps me young.

My first $100+ figure was the Hot Toys Hicks. I just had to preorder him when I saw him.
It kinda went downhill from there... HT just kept putting out so much great stuff. I really had to scale back on my other collectibles.
yamamoto Snake figure, Medicom real world neo, Medicom Snake, Medicom Luke, and it goes on...
and yes age doesn't seem to matter while collecting.. 17 only.

i was browsing on the internet one day looking for some POTC figures then one day i stumbled upon the medicom and HT jack sparrow, this was a world of figure collecting that was hidden from me. I started saving up for the HT jack sparrow and by the time i had enough Australian dollars to buy one they released a second sparrow figure in the cannibal form. So i thought to myself which one should i buy and then The Joker was released so i impulsively bought it for about $200 AUD.
My first expensive item I bought was the Premium Format Vader just after my Ph.D., when my salary was bigger. After that cheaper figures but still in $100 range were easier to acquire. ;)

Bought an orgiinal GI Joe Breeches Buoy set in 1995 for a couple hundred and have never looked back. My costliest was a MIB Flying Space Adventure set that set be back almost 2K back then. Sold it before the market kinda collapsed.

I first bought sideshow Terminator figures but they're under 100. However they did start me off - I then needed to have other 12 inch representation of my favourite film creatures/characters and who does those best? - Hot f'ing toys. I first bought Ed-209, so that made those mere 100euro figures seem like conservative spending!

Turned 26 the other day, got my birthday email from the forums - so thanks sideshow freaks team...even though it was probably automated!
I don't budget myself. If anything I keep expanding my boundaries. Only took up collecting in the Superhero genre this year with 2in1Supes, every single item in the Dark Knight line and Iron Man mark III. However with so much on preorder I recently cancelled a 2nd 2in1 superman plus the Lost Predator, as I don't particularly need them. So there was a small measure of self discipline - I really should show more.

I had been by from Sideshow for awhile, but then their figures were only $50, my 1st $100+ figure was Hot Toys Scar. Glad I only had to pay retail on him.

My first $100 + figure was a DRAGON figure when I had a huge WWII collection. I believe it was some time in the mid 90's or earlier. I bought it at the Chicago Comic Con.

First one was HT Predator 2 Elder. I'm a Pred fan and I just couldn't let it pass. My second one was HT Wolf, and now I am waiting for the HT T-800 Endo and HT Joker to arrive (bought them from the same seller). Probably the last figure I will buy is HT P1.

Spare a thought for the international collectors who have just started - most figures are well over $200 with postage and taxes and PF's are nudging $300! I don't feel like I have made a figure commitment so much as feeling like I have sold my soul.
......And when that first Robocop PF arrives it will all be worth it

It depends if you mean high end or figures in general. I started collecting figures when I was 9 and would buy them with my paper route money. I loved collecting all the He-man figures and some Transformers too. Surprisingly enough, a few years ago I got into collecting figures again when the new He-man figures started coming out. I purchased some of the figures and the Skeletor, Sorceress, and He-man statues and the staction waves that came out. I really went high end when I saw what Sideshow was producing and quite a few of the Hot Toys lines early last year. I had bought some of the Universal Monster PFs (I'm a huge fan of the vintage monster movies) and was sold on Hot Toys with the Alien vs Predator figures.
