View Full Version : My Aayla Secura review

Michael Crawford

I'm sticking with the SDCC exclusive theme this week, with a look at the Sideshow Star Wars Aayla Secura tonight. This is one of those figures that isn't exciting, but isn't terrible either. She is the first of the Jedi (other than old Ben of course) that I prefer in the Jedi robe rather than out, and she has one very serious eye problem, but in the end I was neither flim flammed or flabbergasted.

You can find all the reviews at the usual:

Thanks for reading!

This is a figure I never felt bad about not ordering... not too impressive (but not terrible) and a character I have not connection too.

But, its nice to see that she can still at least be a decent addition to the line up.

At first I was extremely hesitant about ordering her. I'm a notorious cheapskate when it comes to buying toys (for myself anyway since my wife is always shaking her head at me at how many toys I buy the kids). But she has really grown on me. A very unique addition to my Jedi lineup and although it has been said many times, SSC figures look much better in hand.

They would technically be 'bloobies' on this figure.

I am so stealing the pose from that last photo. :clap Nice stuff, Michael. Mine arrives on Friday, and until I saw your photos, I was honestly skeptical about it.

Well since I steal all of my poses from you Monk I guess that means I'll be stealing from Michael-- once removed-- now.:D

Yea, that last pose is how I plan on having her on the shelf.

Knock yourself out, brother. :D Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I welcome it on the rare occasion that I can get it.

Ugh. I'm by no means a huge SW fan, but this fig is FUGLY! I'm shocked Michael didn't deduct another 1/2 star for that sloppy paint crease on her face (1st pic, below the nostril). And those Leatherface arms. Yuck. And that...

Hey, Jeff's Rocky review is up--now that's a sweet figure.

Well mine's arriving Monday (the 11th)-- got a space ready for her (in Monk's... er... Michael's pose:D) on the Jedi shelf...

I've actually been really happy with most of Sideshow's Star Wars figures...but Aayla was the first real dissapointment I got from them. Even Yavin Luke wasn't that bad as his outfit was decent. But I still think Aayla is the first genuine turd that Sideshow has cranked out with all her problems.

Poor base body with loose joints out of the box.
Wrong skintone.
Oversized head.
Oversized lightsaber.
Limited accessories.
Inaccurate, poorly fitting outfit.

The boots (and belt if repainted) are the only nice things I can find about this figure, and I would be sorely tempted to return it if not for these two things.

Have to admit it was the completist in me that bought her, the qualitist in me is currently knocking $h*T out of the the completist

She was utterly dissappointing add to that she was falling to pieces when she arrived

I have one and I really like it. I haven't taken it out of the package, though. True, it isn't as realistic as it could be, and the neck is way too long, which resulted in them overcompensating with a too large head to match the neck, and the color blue is too vivid and the eyes are too red and the wrong color, but overall, it's still a nice figure. I am speaking as someone who has only bought this as the first Sideshow Star Wars figure, however. I'm sure I'll get pickier. I could probably sculpt my own figures if I felt it was worth my time, but it takes a really long time to do, and for just one offs, I can't see the point much, considering how most of these figures I can buy are pretty great for the money. I couldn't make them for less, considering what my time would be worth. It might be a $1,000 head by the time I got finished making one. It's all cost /benefit for me. Maybe if I made a mold it would be worth my time to sculpt one.

So long as she looks good standing with the other Jedi I'll be happy. Worst case scenario I'll tuck her in the back where she won't be as visible.

hmm... thanks for the review, but it seems you are a little generous on the overall rating. i ordered her, canceled, ordered, then canceled again upon time of shipment...now i see that i would have been disappointed with her.

There was a comma--- you're suggesting MORE punctuation for understanding. :D
