martha marcy may marlene 6.5/10. Interesting story and excellent acting from Elizabeth Olsen. But ultimately a very unsatisfying end for me.

I gave it marks for an interesting score and I enjoyed the cinematography. I thought it was interesting that the cinematographer had the characters mainly on the left or right of the frame and rarely in the centre. It gave the impression that someone or something was going to approach from the opposing side. I thought it was clever film making.

It was on Amazon Prime Instant movies so I thought I'd give it a shot. Once I got passed how outdated its effects were and how kitschy most sci-fi films of that era were, I enjoyed it. And Jenny Agutter was beautiful.

Total Recall (2012) - 6/10.

Lacks the subtext of the original and replaces it with chase scenes. It's not all bad, the chase scenes are done well and the look of the world and its locations and tech are sometimes very creative. Still, doesn't overcome its overall blandness.

It's a very slow, slow movie. There actually isn't any dialogue for the first 15 minutes or so. And then from that point on it's a very dialogue driven movie. But DDL really delivers. And the ending is hilarious. Took me awhile to finally watch it (had to see it in two parts because it's long) but it's worth a watch. No desire to ever see it again though. :lol

I think it's a credit to the film that it doesn't rely on dialogue to set up the plot. But as you said, once the talking starts, it really drives the movie. The acting is definitely the best thing, along with the eerie score. Unlike you though, I could watch it more than once:wink1:

If you are in to international movies watch these movies...

The Hurt Locker ... 7.5/10. Good enough. Not great. Not quite as compelling as Black Hawk Down, but that's probably because this leaned more on quiet tension rather than actual action. Renner was good.

I gave it a 9.5 because I still like Batman Begins better.

I thought it was great, although I have to criticize people here who kinda spoiled the movie somewhat with comments they have made in other non-DKR threads, and even the "Did you cry at the end of DKR?" thread, which implies that something tragic happens in the end.

People also spoiled the Avengers as well by revealing major spoilers in other non-Avengers threads.

Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun action flick that played to the strengths and reputations of the various stars. Didn't like it though that Billy the Kid died. Should've kept him on the team IMO. That little sniper action he had in the beginning was awesome.
It would've been better if they killed Jet Li's character. He was annoying and redundant in the first one and in this one as well. Luckily he only had a minor part.

Aliens:Special Edition on Blu-Ray from the Alien Anthology
10/10

I've got one question though, why wasn't the Burke cocoon scene in this version? I just watched it and it wasn't there.
Anyone know?

Check the last disc.

Jaws - 10/10

For me this is one of the few movies that deserves a 10/10 rating.

The Blu-ray looks and sounds amazing, btw.

It's a real good movie but not a 10/10. I suppose if I watched this back in 75' i'd give it a 10 too. An 8/10 is a pretty damn good score you know :lol

I don't think rating this movie highly has anything to do with nostalgia. It's just an incredibly well made movie that stands up to anything made today. The story, acting, directing...it doesn't get much better.

It's better then the Nolan Batmans :lecture :pfft:

An 8 may be good for some movies but it's not enough for Jaws :lol

Because you rate them higher then Jaws :nana:

Yes :monkey3 But you're one of the (occasional) cool one's :D

But just so the other camp don't feel all high and mighty, Jaws is also better then The Avengers :lol
