I enjoyed it more than the first part, but still, what was lacking in these movies for me to give them a perfect 10/10 is that... there were no heroes, no good people. Only bad people killing bad people for very bad reasons.

Cabin in the Woods, isn't a Horror film as much as a satire as one.

Calling it just a "horror film" doesn't really do it justice.

Horror-Comedy. It still has the basic lay out of a horror flick.

But at it's core, satire or not, it's a horror flick. Same with Shaun of the Dead. Even though it's a comedy.

Horror-comedy still counts. Most horror is that way nowadays. It makes for a much fun and entertaining premise. I find a lot of strictly horrors (slasher films more specifically), boring. Over redundant. Too bad Jeepers Creepers wasn't in the past 5 years. I also enjoyed that one thoroughly. Its sequel, not-so-much.

Yeah, it's definetely a romantic santire on the genre as a whole. That's why it's so awesome. It throws back to a paradic type of filmmaking. Very cool.

Actually THIS IS the fault of the filmmakers.
Of the ppl w/o a taste in the genre.
And that's what's CinW about.

Closer to the end it's pretty similar to the old "Waxwork" which is, in fact, also raised the subject but in a more traditional way.
For me this is not a horror movies at all but a good satire/parody of a dying genre.

I thought the whole point of this flick was seeing Gina Carano cracking skulls in amazing fight scenes, but there was really only one good one in the entire thing. The rest is just a very basic spy on the run story. Good for a single viewing then you can forget it ever existed.

Well True Grit isn't very "modern" per se. It's based off the original and still takes place back in the day. But if you mean in terms of being released now then I can see that.

Meek's Cuttoff is another one of those modern in the sense that it was released last year. Anything involving the Oregon Trail is an interesting story for the most part. Very minimalistic film but still very good I thought.

Costner's Open Range I think was a very good modern day western of sorts.

Just a joke scene, no where near the nerdgasm that erupted during the first scene...

Remember when Tony Stark mentioned he wanted to go to a shawarma place? The Avengers are sitting in a wrecked restaurant, eating their after fight meal, and obviously being in a battle all day has left them fatigued. Captain America is half asleep in his chair, Thor is exhausted, slowley eating a falafel / gyro, etc. The audience (well those that remained) were cracking up.

Thor - 8/10

Love this movie and I can't wait to see the sequel.

Rewatched this one yesterday... and my opinion hasn't changed:

1) Not enough of dialogues, they're short and pretty weak
2) Action scenes are sluggish, visually poor and frequently pretty short

As a result it's not clear on what they spent this much of time cuz in the end you feel cheated.
Film is very beautiful, with wonderful actors and interesting story... But...

Can't rate it higher than 6,5/10.

***

So far only "Iron Man" and "First Avenger" were able to sustain the right balance in conveying the message and delivering the feelings of the characters through a visual tale. Hope that I'll be able to include "The Avengers" in this meager list after this Sunday.

How I rate movies:

For me, if I can watch a movie over and over again and still enjoy it, it's a 10.

If I enjoy it once but really have no desire to watch it again or have to wait a LONG time before I want to watch it again that's a 9.

7-8 are good movies with flaws and the score varies depending what's wrong with them.

6 is above average.

5 is so-so/average.

4 and below = garbage.

0 is for movies I can't even finish watching because they suck so bad.

Will be going to see The Avengers again next week in 2D (they forced us to watch it in crappy reald 3d for the premiere) and hopefully the theater won't be packed with children talking and screaming all the time..

Thor was fantastic! Easily an 8 if not really pushing a 9 for me the more I've seen it over the last year.

Avengers - 9/10

I like long movies and good character interactions but I felt the first act was a bit long and pacing was a bit off until it finally got some steam and just went through the roof. Best Hulk by far when it comes to the books. But I like every other Hulk film too. Ruffalo was good.

And I think most of us saw the end coming with who was pulling the strings but was still great to see him.

Anchorman - 9/10 - Hadn't watched it in a long time. Will Ferrell's one of my favorite actors.

Airplane - 9/10 - Watched this for the first time last night and was cracking up the entire time.

Man Avengers is getting a good score!

Anyways, mission impossible ghost protocol - don't know really, want to like it but I'd give it a 6, maybe not even that. I know it's rated highly but I thought it was a very very poor film. Not a patch on the others IMO. Confusing, or just boring plot and some wtf moments like when the agent at the start jumps off the roof spins round and shoots 2 guys. And cruise drawing an original van gogh on his hand in like 5 seconds. Wtf. The best bit for me was Paula Patton in the green dress

I disagree. As superhero films go, it's the top of the heap imo. I would give Die Hard a 10. Is it Citizen Kane? No, but as an action movie, it's about as close to perfection as you can get in that genre.

Most films are around a "5" which means average. Doesn't mean it sucked; just means it's an average film. A "6" on my scale is actually a good movie, above average, and one that I'd be sure to watch again.

A "10" is rare, near perfection in the viewer's eyes and a work of art. It's an orgasm x 100 and resonates deep within your soul and probably has some influence on your life. Most 10's occur during a person's childhood because that is usually when we are most influenced.

Any adult that gives The Avengers a 10 is either caught up in the novelty of it all or has a movie scale that is slightly askew. A ten year old giving the Avengers a 10 makes sense. A twenty five year old, not so much.

Pretty great movie. Story was decent enough, though it wasn't totally original or anything. But with Soderbergh, it was done a bit better than it would have been done by most other guys. Of course, the best thing about the movie that sets it apart is Carano. She is the ____. I hope she gets a lot more of these kinds of movie roles.

In this movie, she kicks the asses of Magneto, Duke, Obi Wan Kenobi, and Zorro, and you totally believe she would do it.

Im definitely one of the people that rates movies a little higher than they would be rated by a "movie critic". My ratings are based on my enjoyment of the film and not me trying to truly critique it and pick it apart and find flaws in the piece.

I used to be one to pick everything apart.
Over the past 6-7yrs the combination of finding happiness in my wife and daughter and having an extremely stressful day job allowed me to sit down in the evenings and enjoy a movie for what it is to me. An Entertainment outlet and nothing more. Which is what it is to most as a child and the reason you enjoyed movies more as a child. You're just enjoying the ride and not sitting there looking for and concentrating on what you may perceive as being wrong with the film.

I dont knock those who claim Avengers is a 10. To me that just means they had a blast watching it. When it comes down to it, isn't that simply what we all want to do when watching a movie? Have as much fun as an adult as we did as children?

Those who don't understand why people on a TOY FORUM would rate Avengers as a 10 need to go participate in a true movie critic forum rather than debate it here IMO...... Although I do enjoy rubbernecking at uptight "adults" who seem to forget they're on a forum created for toy and doll collectors....

Yea, not alot of 10s I can think of for me, Cuckoos Nest, 2001, Shining, Goodfellas right off the top of my head.

Batman Begins - 8/10 Great stuff but I am confused about Gordon's line "the narrows is lost." Does he mean Fox is unable to manufacture enough of the antidote or that they are actually evacuating and condemning that area of the city, or simply that it's going to be riddled with crime, because it seems it's already "lost" by the latter's explanation, cops won't even go there according to Flass. But Gordon makes it seem even worse off now and we aren't shown it at all in TDK if I'm not mistaken. I guess what I'm getting at with all that is, is Arkham Asylum even still existant or was it shut down, abandoned, relocated? Wouldn't mind having that cleared up.

Personally, I think of 5 as really "average." So, equivalent of a C (even though in most grading systems, there is not a normal distribution of grades). It's not hard for a movie I watch to get a 5 score because of that. Anything I rate over 7 is probably a high "B" at least," but a 9 or 10 would be the handful of truly great movies out there, just like 1 or 2 would be some of the worst (though there are many really really bad movies, and not many really really perfect ones IMO).

I rate a lot of movies higher than 5 here though because I only watch movies that I'm pretty confident are gonna be pretty good or at least worth watching to begin with. If the Rotten Tomatoes score is less than 50%, chances are I'm not gonna watch it, because I don't have all the time in the world, and don't wanna waste it watching mediocre movies.

But as for other folks--rate movies how you want to! It would be pretty silly for me to assume that others had the same, highly refined tastes that I do. So, I don't assume that.

I'm sure we will get some reference or even some shots of Arkham in TDKR, that should help clear up the situation. But I agree Begins itself doesn't fully explain the situation there - perhaps it didn't mean to

Captain America -- 8.5/10. Solid outing. Compelling and entertaining. Not in the top tier of superhero movies ... but definitely in that very solid second tier with Iron Man, Spider-man 2, Superman: The Movie, and Batman '89. Too many laser guns, and the villains army was too high-tech looking ... would've been better if they had been using WWII Nazi weapons. Ending was a little weak. Like the suit a lot better than the Avengers one.

Die Another Day -- 5/10. Average, at best. By far the worst of the Brosnan Bond movies ... way behind Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies and World is Not Enough. The plot was absurd. Worst set of Bond Girls in any Brosnan movie. Halle Berry was out-of-place, and her dialogue was ridiculous -- its almost like her and Brosnan weren't even talking to one another ... they were just trading innuendos and one-liners to the point that the conversation had no subject. The other girl was pretty enough, but a complete non-entity. Villain was annoying rather than threatening. And ... there were some terrible visual effects in there -- the plane at the end, Bond surfing on an avalanche, etc.

There were good points, though. The Aston Martin Vanquish was the best car Brosnan drove ... and the car chase toward the end was really good. The henchman -- tall bald asian fella -- was fantastic ... one of the high points of the movie. The capture and torture scene was awesome ... as was the whole "burned" plotline. Cleese was solid as Q. Michael Madsen was good as the NSA director. Liked the swordfight scene in the middle ... not enough swordfights in Bond movies.

I think his will challenge for the biggest blockbuster ever made. IMO, this is the best Marvel movie ever made.

The Avengers 9.5/10 Absolutely loved it. -5 a point forkilling off Son of Coul, some pretty stupid action sequences that Black Widow and Hawkeye performed, Fury not getting in on the action, pretty much making Loki look like a little B and the army he rode in on, and masculine shield agent that wasn't ugly but was absolutely a retarded cast....

It is a completely fun movie to watch, and I'm going to go see it again, but it's not an intelligent movie script. It's pretty much exactly what you expect it to be, just a slam-bang action film with some witty humor, but nothing that's going to drag in acting and directing awards at the Oscars.

Hall Pass: 6/10
Surprisingly graphic comedy... didn't realize it was a Farrely Bros flick until I saw the end credits; then it all made sense. A bit slow and ham-fisted (like a lot of their stuff) but still pretty funny overall.

Skyline: 4/10
Pretty bad movie; some cool looking effects but the movie is monotonous and then the ending "twist" felt clearly tacked on in hopes of making a sequel that I'm sure will not happen. They should have just told the whole story in one movie than try to stretch it out to the point of boredom like they did.

Haywire had the worst score in movie history. Okay, not the worst, but it didn't flow with the movie. Scores make good movies great. Just look at Hanna for example. And yes, even Drive was enhanced by a terrific score. It definitely helps with the pace of the movie. A bad score can hurt an otherwise good film. That and the lead actress was brutal at first. You can see her pick it up as the film went on.

You went and saw the same movie 3 times in a theater!?

3 times here in some Los Angeles theatres (this doesn't count for ALL the major theatre chains) would under $30. Non-3D cause that was unnecessary. But if you were to do 3D then it would be under $50 but most tickets range from $14-16 for that.

Concessions is a different story, but I personally rarely buy anything there. I'll bring my own snacks and since I walk to commute most of the time I just ask for water.

So far only Tarantino's funded New Beverly theatre has the best popcorn I'll eat, and cheap too. Med Popcorn and med pop is $5 or so. Of course movie tickets are also $8 but still!

Nah, I don't care what others rate it, I do kinda feel bad they don't see what I see though. For me it's a beautiful film about life and how precious and delicate our lives are, humanity and our dreams and aspirations, being human, right and wrong, shades of grey, coming to terms with death and the meaning of life, the importance of love and letting people live their own lives, corruption, hypocrisy, the dangers of science, pushing it too far, and the price of playing god and becoming immortal all sandwhiched into a great futuristic post-apocalyptic detective noir story with great visuals, terrific atmosphere and a fantastic score, and of course stellar acting.

I love the parallels of Deckard and Roy's stories, them becoming so much alike as they realise they both just want to live and be in love. The tragedy of it all, it's just very operatic and visually stunning. Theres a reason alot of people consider it so highly but you have to dig beneath a guy shooting at people. I think way too many see the cover and Harrison and expect an action movie and it simply isn't that film.

It was. And it was very surprising to find out that most of them don't get royalties because they filmed in the UK and they were brought in from the outside or something. Had to do with unions and actors guilds and stuff.

Biehn also mentioned how he had talked with Cameron a few times about being in Avatar and was actually up for the part that Steve Lang got and they tried working him in but nothing came out of it. Which is weird considering he doesn't have much going on besides doing cameos in 80s movies!

I think the Blade Runner (final cut) is one the best films ever made, but I totally understand where the people who don't like it are coming from. Like 2001: A Space Odyssey, it's a slow burn, and if you're not completely invested in the story from the get go, I can see where it would be agonzingly tedious to watch.

The Yellow Sea.

8/10

An excellent movie and this really shows how so many foreign movies just go under the radar that are much better than most Hollywood movies.
A very violent movie that starts as a gripping thriller than turns to all out action only to slow down again to a great finish. If you haven't seen this movie check it out.
The only thing I would say is that some things seemed a little unbelievable ( particularly one person surviving through so much ) and it could have probably been cut down by 20 minutes or so.
