I agree. What made it so unique for me is the approach they chose. I thought it completely set itself apart from any other filmed version but also made the novel fresh again by looking at it through the lens of horror and embracing those elements of the story.

I also agree. I believe this might be the first filmed version where most gothic and uncanny elements have been included (?). I'm sure they could have moved a little bit further in that direction, but I understand they also had to focus on other 'major' themes and make them fit in a 2-hour movie. Anyway I really :clap their attempt.

Oh, needless to say that I LOVED Mia Wasikowska (and of course Fassbender too)...It really seemed to me that she was like a breath of fresh air! She did a really amazing job IMO

The Canyon - 0/10

Bumped into this last night on cable. A newlywed couple goes on a tour into the Grand Canyon and gets lost, ultimately ripping off 127 Hours. Yvonne Strahovski from the TV show Chuck was in it so I left it on for a while. Movie was so predicable I eventually wiki'd it and read the end of the plot. Exactly what I expected to happen. I bailed.

I thought this thing was going to be god-awful but was quite surprised that it was a pretty good film. Mel Gibson's performance was phenomenal and if it wasn't pitch perfect this film would probably have been a complete disaster.

Jodie Foster deserves a lot of credit for her direction as well she was walking quite a tightrope keeping this flick from veering off it's rails.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon: What a piece of crap. I don't expect much from a Transformers movie / a Bay film, just to be mindless entertained. Hell, the first two I enjoyed as mindless entertainment. But this was a steaming POS. It took me three nights to finish watching the film, with me stopping the movie on two occasions. Why are all the human characters in Transformers so stupidly written? I guess once the cash is in their face, all the actors in the film don't care how ridiculous their dialogue in the script is, or how stupid / neurotic their characters are. 3 / 10...and I think I'm being generous here.

Nah, not angry at all. Sorry if my post came across that way.

It was still a POS, though. :lol

In teh spirit of Christmas, I will say one good thing about the film...okay this actually about Bay. His connections with the military make for some awesome sequences using current tech. The scene with the NEST forces gliding through Chicago were pretty awesome. That's it.

A pretty decent outbreak/zombie type movie along the lines of 28 Days later. Im not here to argue, so Im using the "Z-word" loosely. Really really enjoyed it but not as good as 3 and about on par with 1 for me.

Whilst Ethan was on top form in 4 the plot didn't thrill me :(

What made 3 so good was Hoffman along with the mysterious rabbits foot.

I found the Hendricks character a bit lame unfortunately. I just found the Russian nuclear launch codes thing also a bit lame but that is me I guess.

Sounds like I didn't enjoy it but I really did, it is a fun watch and the whole Dubai scene was just gripping!

Really good movie, was iffy about it when it was first announced but this is definitely one of the best prequel movies I've seen in a long time.

Thor: 6/10
I honestly found this one to be kind of boring, I have to admit Thor is a character I really have not followed much. But the movie felt like there was just too much information and not a lot of substance to the story. Still, I really liked the actors for Thor, Odin and Loki and look forward to the Avengers.

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows: 7/10
Decent movie, but definitely not as good as the first film in the series. I liked Moriaty, but I found myself getting bored during the movie.

Jurassic Park: 8/10
I've never been much of a fan of this movie, but I bought the BluRay set for my wife and watched it over the weekend. It was much better than I remembered. When I was younger I found myself comparing it too much to the book... but on its own merit its a good flick. Also surprising how well the effects hold up.

Don't believe the hype... This movie is not the masterpiece the critics are saying it is.

It is an enjoyable watch. The cinematography is breathtaking and it is nice to see a film with all shots solid and steady. Not lightning fast cutting, no shaky cam, no hand held shots which are all staples of film making today. It is a throwback to the days when film was an art.

The downside, is the very lightweight plot. There are some surprising moments but in the end it is a fun, well crafted movie with very little to say of importance.

I really enjoyed it but hate the hype surrounding it.

By the way the dog actor stole the movie from it's human fellow thespians. The best film dog since Toto.

The IT Crowd S3 - 8/10
It had a couple of good eps, but overall it was slightly less funny than the previous seasons.

1941 - 6/10 - Good comedy, but it would have benefitted from just a little more John Belushi.

Gladiator (on Blu-ray, finally) - 10/10

The scene where Maximus reveals himself to Commodus in the arena is still one of my absolute favorites. Cinematic perfection.
