Flash Gordon 7/10

Even with all it's cheesiness, it's still a fun movie. And it has a great soundtrack.

Did you see the family guy clip from a couple episodes back with God and the Flash music? It was just so random and had me rolling :rock

Babylon A.D. in Blu Ray..... 1/10!!!

What a complete and utter waste of time! The movie ended and I kept sitting there through the credits waiting for some kind of plot to start!!! Stay away at ALL costs!!! :banghead

The really funny thing is that the only movie I can compare the watching experience to was Napolean Dynamite! Sit through an entire turd of a movie waiting for a plot to develope saying the whole time "there HAS to be some kind of payoff... there just HAS to!" But NO!

i agree that she is cute, but i didn't want to sound weird because she looks a whole 16 years old. i've only bought a couple blu ray import kung fu movies. the pickings are slim because most of the popular ones don't have subtitles which is all i need if they don't have english dubs. right now my list:
Ip Man (donnie yen, this movie is just awesome!!! great AQ/PQ and fights)
Flash Point (again, donnie yen and also colin chou, the guy from matrix revolutions and reloaded. not the best story, but the action scenes are great and the final fight is in my sig.)
Fearless Director's Cut (Jet Li in one of his best movies)
Forbidden Kingdom (Jet Li / Jackie Chan, can be found anywhere, but i hear the import versions get better extras and audio)

dude, forbidden kingdom does NOT belong in that esteemed list! it's a sorry excuse for 2 greats to share screen time. nothing more. the movie is laughable crap. i watched it with a chinese-speaking theatre audience, and everyone laughed their a$$es off when jackie and jet suddenly broke into english in the middle of ancient china. wtf.

Also, the fat people asking him about the tower and the fat guy chasing after him... hilarious! Simple subtle comedy is sometimes the best approach.

There was a lot of great humor in this movie, but there were two things that sort of bothered me:

1. When I saw Jimmy the dwarf dressed up as a kid, I knew he was going to end up dead.

B. What the hell took Harry so long to get down the stairs of the bell tower? It took him forever!

I did like seeing the actor who plays Danko on Heroes as the Canadian jerk.

The Day the Earth Stood Still Remake 7/10

yes, it wasn't like the original - Keanu Reeves was wooden (but appropiately so in the film) - the kid was annoying. But they did a pretty good job of updating the film to today's times. The issues discussed in the film were updated appropriately. Gort was very cool. Didn't like how they adopted the film title into the movie though.

Quarantine - a lot of fun if you can deal with the handheld, first-person subgenre. One really cool gag that I'm amazed no one has thought of before. Let's just say the camera becomes an active participant at one point. It just made even more interested in getting REC, the original, and I was happily surprised that you can order a region 1 DVD of REC from Amazon.ca! Needless to say it's on the way...

Splinter - not bad. Way too much shaky cam when you really want so see what's going on. It's nice to see a movie that takes the "parasite" idea and doesn't just have actors play "creepy." This thing clearly has no idea what to do with a human body. :lol

Watched REC today. It's weird - Quarantine, at times, is an almost shot-for-shot remake. To the point where I knew how the camera was going to move for certain gags while watching REC. Despite that, REC should definitely be watched first if possible. The last 20 minutes is really, really creepy. Almost the same thing happens in the remake but for some reason it is way scarier in the original.
If you can deal with shaky cam and subtitles REC is an excellent, excellent horror flick.

I know someones probably done a review and a rating but I just finished watching it before I logged on! I have to review the main event....

The Terminator

Released: 1984
Directed: James Cameron- (The Man!)
Visual Effects: Stan Winston- (The Monster Maker Man!)
Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger-(T-101 Assassin)
Micheal Biehn- (Kyle Reese)
Linda Hamilton- (Sarah Connor)

This is definitely my favourite instalment in the trilogy, soon to be quadrilogy!, it puts Arnie in the role that made him! I definitely prefer him portraying the villain character. He plays the character well and paints a menacing picture with his "DIY" surgery, his none stop firing of bullets! and the awesome catch phrases!

It's a must see and the ending is EPIC! If you haven't seen it, where have you been? Any way watch it!

10/10 for me!

the evil wasn't there like under the cabin. The evil was in hell and when the book was read aloud hell opened up and let out demons who possess people. The acting was bad but it's a 70's movie, you can't expect acadamy award winning performances in a low budget horror movie from the 70's. And just overall scares and story made it good.

Most indie or low budget movies take 7 days to shoot. The Evil Dead took 12 weeks to shoot. I just watched X-MEN ORIGINS:WOLVERINE
This movie blew mutt.
All the special effects won't save this dud.
I thought I was a Wolvernie fan, after seeing this did I miss a few comics??
Where did they come up w/ this story line?
I won't say what it's about(I'm sure most of you know it).
:Flush
I give it one half star

Let the Right One In... hm, it's hard to be fair to this movie, because the English dubbing was SO BAD. I think I would have liked it A LOT more if it was in its original language with English subtitles instead.

The version I saw: 4/10

Does a subtitled, rather than dubbed, version exist? (I guess I should read the thread about it, eh?)

the version you rented didn't come with a subtitled track?!? that's odd. it should have

the problem is that the version that is out right now is not the original subtitle track that was shown theatrically. apparently the studio is re-releasing the DVD with the original subtitle track which is far superior to the current one.

Yeah, must be because I had heard such great things and this one was pretty horrible. Very very odd cuts and seriously, the dubbing was BAD BAD BAD. I wonder if they also cut out some from the theatrical release because it really felt like it was missing something :(

Oh, and it was dubbed into English, but all the writing was still in its original language, so I have NO IDEA what the notes Eli gave to Oskar said...

the first hour of the movie was just the leprechaun chasing a shop owner around hitting him with a bat. :monkey4:monkey4

Then the second half was about a fat guy trying to get it on with a robot woman that in the end electricuted him.
Then the main character turned into what was supposed to be a leprechaun since the real one bit him. He put on the worst Irish accent I have ever heard !. :lol:lol:lol

Vincent Price rocks! I forgot what a great looking movie this was. And this was the first time I saw it in HD, so it looked even better. I'll be watching Dr. Phibes Rises Again later.

It never occurred to me before, but is this where they got the idea for the Saw movies?

Yeah good call bro, both me and my wife got really into this one. I just wish Hollywood produced more films like this. I've watched some amazing films over the past 2 weeks:

Slumdog Millionaire
The Wrestler
Into the Wild

What do they all have in common? Low budget and complete focus to bringing "Art" back into film like it used to be.

Evil Dead II 5/10

This movie was almost as bad as the first. It wasn't quite as annoying as the first one but still had it's moments. If I hadn't done a little research before watching this I would have been way lost. The opening part of the movie completely contradicts the first film and I know why but if I didn't I'd have been like "what the hell?". Some people treat this as a sequel and others as a remake. If I completely disregard the opening 10 minutes I can call this a sequel. Acting was still pretty bad and some parts were just complete garbage. Like his girlfriend jumping out of her grave and dancing looking like a very ugly Barbie doll... Ick. And the scene with his hand? WTF?!?! Then there were parts where characters were completely drenched in fluids only to be mostly dry and not stained in the next shot. Oh the horror.

I couldn't tell if this movie is supposed to be scary or funny. Perhaps a little of both. Either way it doesn't mix well to me and makes a pretty bad movie. The only part that saved it from being a total waste was him "arming" himself with the chainsaw at the last 15 minutes.

Oh well. Next in the Netflix queue, Army of Darkness.

I own and LOVE all 3 as well. Like Peter Jackson's early work, they are just overflowing with a love for film and horror and effects. These movies ARE NOT about a story, necessarily. They are more about the characters and the effects and the absolute joy of making it - on NO budget (not low budget - well, until Army of Darkness, they got a budget for that one... and some pretty nice one-liners to boot). PJ's early movies are exactly the same way. Love 'em! :rock
