Tron Legacy.

First time I've watched Tron anything so I went in completely unaware of what to expect. I'll give it a 7.5/10.
Visually it was incredible ( blu ray Imax scenes ! ) but whilst the story was interesting I never felt as if I really cared about Sam. Plus I kept imaging Jeff Bridges doing a sequel as the dude. :rotfl

The movie was free though with all the disney movie rewards points I'd built up so I can't complain !. :rock

Welcome. You should give the first movie a shot too now, to give you a bit of context from the back story. It will greatly impact your view of a couple of characters, Sam though isn't one of them.

Incredible soundtrack too, no?

Transformers 3: 6/10

Really much more fun than I expected based on the previous movie, though not something I would consider all that good. Might be better than part 1, if just for having Nimoy's voice as Sentinel Prime. One thing I really don't like, though, is making Optimus such a ruthless ____er. Letting so many humans die and suffer just to prove a point earlier, then killing a weak and defenseless Sentinel at the end, I guess because there's no redemption for what he did? Just not the same Prime I knew as a kid, and I'm not sure that I like the message it sends to younger kids who are gonna take lessons away from this kind of movie.

You know I did think about that after the fact. In the cartoon Optimus seemed the type who'd begrudgingly kill a villain. He even paused when Megatron begged for mercy in the 1986 movie compared to the TF3 Bayformer Optimus who seemed to relish the executions.

People who take you for granted deserve execution??? :google

I didn't say that. I said redemption not that they need to be executed. I mean a second chance to prove they're going to appreciate what you bring to the table. Now, in a situation like what Sentinel did by stabbing the world and Prime in the back that way I'd put one in his grill. Why give him a second chance? He just tried to screw it up for everyone and killed a friend. There's no redemption for that. Obviously, execution for minor things is a bit over the top and not what I meant at all. I don't believe in going to the extreme in every case but I do find my forgiveness level lower than it used to be for people who feel the need to be _______s.

And look at Prime throughout the series. He didn't want to kill Megatron, and was willing to let HIMSELF die before him.

And in the second one, same thing, and Megatron KILLED him. He came back.

Now HE comes in...and yeah, well....you know, betrays him, and pretty much gives Optimus no reason to give ANYONE a second chance. All bets are off. ____ this noise, lets KILL THEM ALL. :D

I guess my perspective is--at what point is Prime no longer the noble hero he once was? Even if he thought Sentinel could not be redeemed, like Khev says, did he have to be outright killed just because Prime was pissed and I guess wanted vengeance? That's something Punisher would do, not Optimus Prime. Or at least, not the Optimus Prime I know and like. And what's up with the thing about "we had to let the humans think we were gone" or whatever. Why? A real hero doesn't do what he does to prove a point so that the humans will really know how bad the Decepticons are and how much they need the Autobots. They would try to stop humans from being killed en masse! But Optimus in that movie seems to disagree.

Playing catch-up from early September.

Thor: 9 / 10. Didn't have a chance to see it in the theater, so I watched it on Blu-Ray the night it was released. Fantastic film, and I preferred it over Captain America (which is a fantastic film in it's own right). Too bad Branagh isn't directing the sequel. And while Ray Stevenson is badass, I though he was wrong for Volstagg, Should have gotten a real "fat" guy instead of putting Stevenson in a fat suit.

X;MEn: First Class: 9 / 10. Saw it in the theaters opening weekend, and was just as good uopon repeat viewings.

Hanna: 8.75 /10. Entertaining film. Good performances from Cate Blanchett, Eric Bana, and Saoirse Ronan.

Bridesmaids: Had to watch this after putting the GF through the three movies above. Decent, with some funny parts. 7.75 / 10.

Community: Season 2: 9 / 10 overall, with the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons episode a 10 / 10. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

The trilogy Red Riding. 10/10 Saw all three yesterday. Very well done and interesting story on crime and corruption in northern England during the 70's, early 80's. It's from a novel that I believe was based on some factual events. Well acted and full of suspense...though there were times when I had a bit of trouble with the strong accents.

I'd give it a 9/10, its an excellent movie. This is coming from someone that considers DeNiro and Pacino 2 of the 3 best actors of all time. Can't be biased though.

I may have to check out 127 hours....I remember hearing this story when it happened back in 03 and thought to myself "why do I want to watch a movie about a guy cutting his hand off" But it's gotten so many great reviews they obviously did a great job with it.

A Clockwork Orange: 10/10 Just stunning filmmaking.

2001: A Space Odyssey: 10/10 No words can really describe the state this film puts me in. It is for me still the greatest Science Fiction film ever made. And just beautiful on Bluray!!!!

Yeah, so I gave all 10's. Do I care? No. Stanley Kubrick was a master filmmaker who pushed the envelope on what could be achieved through cinema. I wish his vision for A.I. would have been realized. I still enjoy the film, but would have loved if Kubrick had lived long enough to make his film he worked on for the better part of 20 years.

What he put Shelley Duvall through just to get the performance he required is amazing! I also watched the documantary by his daughter Vivian and I loved it! Got to see Nicholson pumping himself up before a take and Kubrick laying into Duvall for not being ready for a take. Also got to see Stanley operating the camera a lot, which he tended to do because of his past as a professional photographer.

All of his films have an undefineable quality to them that makes them stand out, no matter the genre. I saw The Shining as a little kid, probably 6 or 7 and even then I knew this was unlike any horror film I watched. And my brothers and I watched everything that came out if it was horror. But Kubrick has the way of really getting under your nerves and give you images that get burned in your head. The most frightening image for me is Jack slowly rising with the axe after he hears Danny. That face sticks with me!!!

I do admit to not being able to sit through Barry Lyndon yet. I will before I die. On my death I have requested two things: Legend Of Zelda Majora's Mask (never able to play all the way through) and watch Barry Lyndon :)

Meh. Not enough action. Couldn't tell half the time whether she had any kind of abilities to fight the zombies. There was absolutely no explanation for the punisher-type creature with the half scythe/half meat grinder weapon. The timeline confused the crap out of me. And i guess the main bad guy of the film decided to make his hero Neo from the Matrix, which was really lame.

I'd say the only bright spots were the fight at the beginning, and the alice/claire/creature fight.

The Thing Prequel: 7/10 I liked it. It was decent. Not fantastic.

While the character's were pretty weak, and some of the deaths felt cheap, it was a pretty cool movie. It ties in perfectly with The Thing, except for the footage of them blowing up stuff, which Mac and the crew watched.

There's a ton of CGI. It was probably practical mixed with CGI, but it all blended pretty well.

The Thing-OUT moments were pretty ****ing cool. That's one of the main reason I saw the flick.

The THINGS themselves were decent. The Split-Face guy was cool to finally see in motion, as was an earlier one. But they all kinda had the same look. They all looked like the dog thing. But eh. Oh well.

There is, however one stand out moment. It was already given away in the trailer...but still..it's the best THING OUT in the film. It's just so ****ing fast and insane that it made me grin pretty big.

If it wasn't in the trailer...it would've been a scene on par with the Norris Thing Out. And it happens fairly early in the film too.

Speaking of Mortal Kombat:

Mortal Kombat: Legacy (9 webisode Series) - 7/10

Would've scored it higher (8-9) had they stuck with the original direction from Mortal Kombat: Rebirth i.e. a realistic approach to the material. But apparently when it got officially licensed Midway pushed for more mysticism/fantasy (unlike in Rebirth) and that's where things got kinda FUBAR. Still decent and 100x better than all the craptastic MK Hollywood movies. :lol

while this movie has nice artistic direction style, amazing acting and actors I felt it was hard to watch and not in the sense that it was too smart a movie.

The movie crawled at a snales pace, kept you in the dark for the first half. It spliced present and past shots seamlessly so you could not tell what was in present time or not . The movies plot wasn't all that intelligent for what it was hyping up to be and the pay-off wasn't worth it in the end for me.

I was quite disappointed especially for it having 93% on rottentomatoes, which is no simple feat. I need to read the reviews to understand why this is soo critically acclaimed

Its obviously a very personal piece from Malick.

.. it was right on time for me ... :monkey1

I LOVED Tree of Life! It is also a 10/10 for me. Awesome experience.

Ive been hunting down and reading quite a few reviews of this since I watched it just last night. It really is like a piece of art. I wonder what others' opinions are of it, but not in an "Im going to hate on your opinion if it doesn't align with mine" kind of way.
It truly makes you wonder what others may have seen in the movie that may differ from your own experience ... :monkey1

Well it did win the Palme d'Or.

I'm not saying everyone will love this movie, because they won't. I just think it's one of more thought provoking movies I've seen in a long time.

And I guess that is one of the main problems. It is a movie to make you think and/or reflect. And I am not sure that is what people seek when going to the cinema.

Scream 4 - 4/10

Barely watchable in my opinion. Basically a remake of the first film without officially calling it a remake. Everything about it just seemed like it was made for teens...even down to the soundtrack and making fun of the genre itself. I got thru it bored out of my mind and then when it all ended I was just happy it was over.

I haven't seen it yet. I just think it's hilarious that it's so thought provoking... and/or confusing, that Sean Penn himself said he didn't even understand it.

Holy ____ no.

Now, I saw Scream 4 once, I enjoyed it...but who's to say it'll hold up? I can't tell ya... however, Wes Craven as a hack? I can't agree with that in any way.

Serpent And the Rainbow is a FANTASTIC film, so is New Nightmare. I love Red Eye, But that's just me.

And all the Scream's are harmless spoofs, that are pretty well made. At least the first 2 are.

So yeah....I think you're going too far calling Craven a hack. Maybe he's a hack NOW...after years of not doing really anything, but he made some great films. Not a lot...but he's left his mark on horror films.

Sorry little buddy but I can't agree with any of that. ANOES was spectacular, don't get me wrong, he does have some talent. Its just that everything else after was subpar at best. The Scream movies required no creativity, they catered to an ADHD audience. They're lame. Yet somehow he's become a (horror) household name. John Carpenter, now theres a true legend of horror movies.

I definatly agree that Carpenter is better. He is the master...

But you gotta see Serpent and the Rainbow. New Nightmare is also great.

Scream is a different animal. I think people tend to view them as horror films, and not quite as spoofs. Which they are. And they are creative. Just in a different, more subtle way. Atleast the first is. Watch it one more time with that in mind.....and if ya still hate it, then well, yeah.

The Shining in theaters....6...maybe 7 out of 10.

Now the movie is, and always will be a 9 for me....but I can't say I enjoyed it all that much on the big screen.
First of all, I think they play the DVD, and just blow it up....the quailty wasn't all that great.
Then the sound was off by a hair for the first hour. It was strange.

And the film is just incredibly long. As it should be. It's my favorite "slow buring" horror flick, but I pefer to be able to relax, and lay down while watching it.

Oh well. It's still an incredible film.

Next week is A Nightmare on Elm Street! I'm excited!

Absolutely top marks for Xavier and Erik. I loved how they portrayed their friendship. And I loved Xavier's young personality (although I don't feel it's entirely accurate to what I remember was implied from the comics). I didn't love the young kids. I thought they didn't really do their characters justice. Very thinly written. I didn't like Hank's portrayal either. Mystique's origin tied into Xavier's was a bit of a stretch, too. And although January Jones LOOKED spectacular, she was terrible!

But LOVED Erik and Charles.

Erik the Nazi hunter kicked ass. I could have watched more of that. Very cool.

Xavier and Eric's friendship was very well done, and I also liked Mystique and Xavier. It was a bit left field in continuity, but it worked for this film. His attitude towards her being blue also showed he wasn't perfect. Erik actually comes off as the 'better' man through most of this film.

Emma Frost was completely wasted as a character.

A cool movie for something made in 81'. I had heard so much about this flick and finally decided to throw it on the netflix lineup. Well needless to say in my eyes it was more hype than anything and again I know its old. I mean it started off interesting, but being that apparently it was a made for tv movie...there were no on screen kills and you never actually see the scarecrow til the end and even that was pretty lame.

Intersting concept, but I think the movie forgot what its focus was and it almost changed into a different movie about half way thru it. Wasnt bad, but wasnt great, but I will say I liked it. Nothing I would go out and buy or probably even watch again, but the 6 is for the story itself, which in my eyes sadly gets lost.
