I saw the remake first, so I was shocked by the cornball music and horrendous acting. It's just an all around piss poor piece of filmmaking. I'm not sure I would even rate it that high.

The latest POTC. Out of the whole movie I probably saw half of it,I kept falling asleep. It was bad. The characters have become caricatures of themselves and it was just loaded with stupid scenes that were supposed to be funny. I miss when Johnny Depp used to pic those off beat roles from lower budget movies. He really doesnt amuse me much anymore. Anyway the movie sucked.

Bridge on the River Kwai: 8/10

I bet this was a real revelation when it was first released, given all the complex dynamics occurring under the surface and all the fundamentally different motivations driving the various characters. I noticed after watching it that it won all the major Academy Awards for that year (film, director, actor, screenplay, etc.). Guinness deserved his anyway, IMO. This would make a nice double feature with the Americanization of Emily, to compare the American and British perspectives on war and life.

Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon in 3D (9/10)

I have to say this is the best of the trilogy. The first 30 minutes was a little long but the movie picks up very quickly. It did however have a funny scene with that Asian guy from Hangover.

Before watching this movie I was disappointed Megan Fox was not in the final chapter. However after watching it, Rosie Huntington held her own and wow does she look great especially when she gets introduce in the opening sequence. I did not miss Megan Fox at all after watching Rose H. The last hour of the final battle scene was absolutely jaw dropping. Probably the best ever CGI movie I have ever seen especially when it's in 3-D. The cinematics & visual alone easily beats out James Camerons Avatar or LOTR series. There was a scene at the very end that made me almost shed a tear on Bumblebee. Luckily that didn't happen :)

This movie pays a lot of homage to other movies like Dune, Independence Day, Titanic, 2012 and even Star Trek. Great choice on having Leonard Limoy play the part of Sentinel Prime. Even though Michael Bay is not well liked this has to be one of the best movie he has ever made. He sure knows how to do the slow motion 360 pan angles. Love it!

The visual alone is worth the $13. Can I say this will be the biggest box office hit for this summer? I alone will probably watch it again and will definitely buy it on Blu-Ray 3D when it comes out.

I doubt this will be the last Transformers movie made and I look forward to seeing the next installment of this franchise. :)

Cars 2 - 6/10. Easily the weakest of the Pixar movies to date. I'm not a hater of the original, but this one really lacked any heart.

I have to say I left feeling weird - I loved the look, the sound and the designs. It's a beautifully animated movie. And it really is a fun plot, especially if you like Bond movies. Let's face it, Bond movies aren't great social cinema - they're just supposed to be fun. Lots of chases, lots of 'stunts', lots of cool gadgets, lots of explosions. Kids will enjoy the basic escapism.

But the dialog from all the old characters - McQueen, Sarge, Sally, etc. etc. etc. was flat and unemotional, as if they were reading it - badly. The spark was from the new characters, especially Francesco. In fact, whenever he was on screen, you could see easily tell the difference in Tuturro's voice acting and everyone else.

This is also a Mater movie, not a McQueen movie, which is not such a bad idea. But let's be honest, Larry the Cable Guy is not a great actor. One liners he delivers well, but when he's expected to actually string together many sentences of dialog and add appropriate emotion, things don't work so well.

In the end though, I think it's because this is the first (and so far only) Pixar movie that was not created from a quirky idea on the back of a napkin, but purely as a money making endeavor. Instead of some creative genius coming in and saying "hey, I got this really cool idea, what do you think?", some marketing dude said "hey, Cars makes us a ton of money, make a sequel!" And like Jar-Jar and the Ewoks, whenever you force something into a movie purely for it's economic potential, it lacks heart.

That was my worry when I first heard about this film. But I would humbly suggest that the old GI Joe and Transformers cartoons, though created purely as glorified toy commercials, had a fair amount of heart, creativity, and richness that has really sustained those franchises for 25+ years. . .so I don't know if the base motivations at the core of doing something always have that effect on the final product.

I can't agree with you there - those old cartoons are awful. Nostalgia fuels their continued success, and had you been an adult when you first saw them, you might have a different feeling about it. The 8 and 9 year olds that watch Cars 2 may feel, as adults, that it was one of Pixar's best.

It is nostalgia, but a nostalgia rooted in heart that goes far beyond what was narrowly required by the toy companies. Even if the stories are cheesy and simplistic, the relationships between the characters, the conflicts, and the voice acting were all very solid for what they are. Having re-watched them recently, I can still see that stuff coming through (admittedly, in some episodes more than others). Yes, some who first saw them as an adult might feel differently, but too often I think that's because some are too quick to dismiss things out of hand as they've become too jaded and "sophisticated." Just because a cartoon isn't Toy Story or Snow White doesn't mean it doesn't have heart or depth. The relationship between Optimus and his team, the conflict between Cobra Commander and Destro, etc.--these are things that resonate and have propelled the series' on. There is still real tension, threat, and thoughtfulness in episodes of GI Joe like "Worlds Without End."

In other words, I personally think the writers and voice actors took their work seriously, and churned out products that were more than what they had to be. I get the impression that Cars 2 is a horse of a different color.

Clash of the Titans (new version) 6/10 Too bad directors today can't seem to realize how important atmosphere and tension are to a film. Neat effects alone don't make a film any good.

Not as good as the first one, but I thought the concept and idea for this one was good also. I also like that they made the "creature" more well creature than rather a bubbling blob of fly/man flesh. I still love the creature in the first one even if he was a giant mound of fly/man flesh.

So much hate for Transformers. I am surprised.

I guess Academy award winning work was expected from a story about robots made from a Cartoon of the 80's about robots produced by a toy company !

Well guess what, it's ain't so easy. Its a kids subject (remember we were kids when we fell for these things). It has its appeal.

And I let it appeal to me.

I enjoyed it for what it was.

Guess what... I watched Black Swan and Kings Speech.

I had more fun with my summer popcorn movies.

Couple of movie marathons on TV over the weekend ... Indy on SciFi, and Batman on AMC ...

Raiders of the Lost Ark -- 10/10. Best adventure movie ever made. Perfection.

Temple of Doom -- 6/10. Good action. Good ending. Too macabre. The voodoo plot was a bit weird.

Last Crusade -- 8/10.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull -- 7/10. Better than Temple. Underrated.

Batman -- 7.5/10. Keaton is a reasonable Batman. Jack is a great Joker. Some weirdness throughout. Shouldn't have killed off Joker. Alfred should've been fired for bringing Vale to the Batcave.

Batman Returns -- 5/10. I forgot how little Batman is actually in this movie. Too much Penguin ... and not a terribly good Penguin. The Penguin isn't a circus freak. Too gothic. Burton went a little overboard on this one.

Batman Forever -- 6/10. Better than Returns. A little campy, but intentionally so. Good for the type of movie Schumaker intended to make. Kilmer is a better Batman than Keaton.

Batman Begins -- 10/10. Possibly better than The Dark Knight. TDK has better villains. BB has a better Batman story arch.

Hobo with a Shotgun - 4/10. Yea, I like the grindhouse concept, but this one had a weird dichotomy that ruined it. 80% of the movie is awful, over the top, goofy acting and camera work, combined with the expected excessive gratuitous violence (but no nudity?), and the other 20% is the fine actor Rutger Hauer delivering some really good moments as the Hobo. Problem is those two things just don't mesh - it has to either be all camp or all serious, the two together just end up making it look like a bad movie.

The Zookeeper - 6/10. I thought I was going to hate this thing, but it's getting harder and harder to get my daughter and son to agree on a movie to go see. They agreed on this one, and it turned out better than I expected. Not high humor by any stretch of the imagination, but some of the animals did have some pretty funny dialog, and they didn't ruin it all with the trailers.

Halloween H20 Blu Ray 8-10 Ive always enjoyed Halloween 78 Halloween 2 and H20... There about the only 3 Halloweens I can watch... I hate where Zombie went with Halloween... 4 and 5 where plain crap as well... Id count H20 as Halloween 3 if that crap Halloween with no Michael had never been made...

So true, people dont understand how awesome that movie is. Such an under rated horror flick all because it got labeled with a "Halloween" title. Its a great stand alone film.

Let Me In: 7.5 / 10. Prefer the Let The Right One In, but still decent.

Let Me In: 7.5/10

Same rating although I can't decide which one I like better. I was very impressed by this (American) version, that they had the guts to stick to the somber mood of what I guess is the book, instead of "Americanizing" it and making it over the top and "exciting" in the traditional, expected way. It had a great creepy slow pace to it which I really appreciated. And they kept key character moments like seeing the older brother of the bully be a bully to his younger brother (which made you understand why he was such a ____). It didn't add sympathy to the bully, but it made you understand him better. It made me personally dislike him more because he's such an idiot and a coward to transfer his anger on to someone weaker.

One thing I did like a little better about the American version:
I like how the boys were more brutal to Owen in the end, which made it more satisfying when they got their comeuppance.

I'd say both versions are pretty even.

I just watched the foreign version of Let the Right One In. I thought it was a good movie but it was hardly scary at all. i have the new American version waiting to stream on Netflix but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

The foreign one i would say was 7.5/10 as well.

While I liked the original Swedish version, I think the US remake was done so well I think I like it better...even if it is almost shot for shot the same.

Foreign version has a slight edge for me, even if it wasn't as scary as the American version.

I like the casting of the girl better in the American version, but I felt the boy in the Swedish version had his character's "look" better than (if that make's any sense).

Quickly off the top of my head, other comparisons (in spoilers for those who have not yet seen the film(s):

I felt the scenes done better in the foreign version were:

1) The scene where vampire girl (Can't remember her name from Let The Right One In, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Abby) scaled the hospital walls to get to Hakan / her "father". To me, it look so much more creepier than in Let Me In.

2) The woman's slow transformation to vampirism, especially the scene in Let The Right One In where all the cats are hissing at her. And again, the spontaneous combustion scene looked better to me in Let The Right One In.

3) The final pool scene. When I heard that a U.S. version was being made, I was wondering how the film would handle the graphic depiction of the deaths of minors. If I remember correctly, we saw a severed head and hand in Let the Right One In. We saw a head in Let Me In but it wasn't a fully severed head as in the Swedish version.

Space Battleship Yamato 6/10. Not bad. Strayed from the original anime's story by doing some things that, well, you'll just have to watch for yourself. Similarities to nu-BSG abound in this too. Great CG and FX work but once again a little to nu-BSG.

Dude, there is no rhyme or reason why people hate REC 2. I don't get it, at all. I've heard it and I've encountered it and I don't get it. It is absolutely one of the best sequels ever in my humble opinion and does so much to expand on the mythology of that story that its almost criminal. You walk into REC 2 expecting more of the same. What you get in the end completely twists your ____ing head around Linda Blair style and leaves you wanting more, much more. My two most anticipated sequels next to TDKR, REC Genesis and REC Apocalypse with Genesis the prequel exploring how all of this horror got started. And then Apocalypse, which will explore what happens after "she" gets out...

IP Man 2 - 7/10

Not as good as the first film, but I like the fact they do the whole East vs West in the sense of Wing Chun vs Western Boxing. Thought that was pretty cool, still thought the first film had a better story with the annexation of China during Japans invasion. Some good fight scenes, and not alot of wire work. Thats one thing I hate about asian style martial arts films. I love them but at the same time when everyone starts flying they lose me. These were more realistic fights (somewhat).

The Tourist 4/10

The only reason I give this a 4 out of 10 rating is because I gave 2 points just for Depp being the star / costar. Besides that, the story line blew really bad. I think it had potential to be much better if there was slightly more back story or it went a slightly different direction. I won't give any details on the film, since its supposed to have a twist ending. I think a 5 year old can figure out the entire film in the first 30 minutes though.

Do not suggest the film at all, not even worth a rental IMO

I've not yet seen Inside, but from googling a short synopsis it sounds like a more graphic version of The Strangers or Funny Games. I'll check it out, though.

It wasn't the gore in Martyrs that disturbed me, I've seen worse in other films, it was the plot and concept more than anything.

It's kind of a poor man's Poltergeist, with some Evil Dead sort of weirdness thrown in there and just a dash of Nightmare on Elm Street. It's not as good as that decription might make it sound, but it's worth a watch for the fact that they at least tried to do something a bit offbeat and interesting.
