I just recently saw AVP Requiem movie and thought it was an ok movie. But it was way too dark to see any of the Aliens or Predator creatures. I know they wanted to make it a dark movie to hide the creatures and make it scary but whats the point of putting in all those awesome details in the sculpture if you can't see them. I then watched the making of it and you see these artists sculpting and painting beautiful detail on the Alien/Predalien/Predator and you can't see any of that in the movie, what a shame. I give it a 5/10.

The 2007 is a shot for shot remake from the same director. The actors are the only thing that changed. I preferred the 97 version, partly because it was the first one I saw and the German language just seemed to work better. It's definitely not a movie made for American audiences and I think you need to know what you're about to watch before you actually watch it. Don't expect your typical torture thriller. This one is more of a send up on the theme of violence. Having said all that, it's still just an average movie. Nothing great.

I agree there. It's like you want to like it because its Myers but its so hard to get into it. :monkey2
It doesn't get anywhere close to the original or any of the sequels really imo.
It doesn't have the right atmosphere.
Even H20 felt like Myers to me. At least alot more than the new one anyway.

Then again I guess with it being a complete reboot it doesn't have to have the same atmosphere.... but it should since thats what made the older movies so special.

It was obvious from the trailers that The Strangers was about home invasion, not a educational trip into the mind of a killer.
I'm aware of that. I didn't give it a high score because it's not my type of psychotic killer movie. I prefer the ones that show a reason as to why the killer had gone berserk and give you some answers. Something for your mind to gnaw on a little after you see it. Thinking about why the three masked characters in The Strangers did what they did is like taking a shot in the dark. It's pointless because we aren't given a single clue.

The last thing I saw was Watchmen and I'm going to give it a 9/10 because I'm in a really good mood (fresh tattoo on my shoulder) and if I hadn't seen the movie, I wouldn't have read the book, and the book is amazing. My main complaint with the film was the long sex scene in the Owl Ship put to "Hallelujah." That was a little inappropriate and could have easily been condensed IMO.

Do old movies count?

Just watched "Blind Fury" with Rutger Hauer (Encore Action!!!), and perhaps only because I'm a Hauerphile---I actually enjoyed it.

It could use a more "serious" remake though. The story is cool but they handled Hauer's character with this off-handed sort of slapstick humor which was sometimes amusing and sometimes completely out of place.

I enjoyed the Westernized take on the Lone Wolf & Cub mythos and his 'Nam origins.

Fun flick but very far from perfect...

6/10

actually that is a whole different character called ZatoIchi (blind one) about a traveling blind swordsman. Very interesting series of films.

I don't think hate is the right word...maybe despise or loathe. :lol

If you ever saw the original uncut cartoon you might be inclined to go all Kamehameha all over the suits who destroyed this property. I saw the commercial and gave it a negative 10...but I think that may have been too lenient. I don't need to sit though 2 hours of it to know how bad it is.

Agreed! I LOVE this film, Oliver Stone is the man, not only a good writer but just as good at directing. I'd give this one an easy 9/10 myself. Ya know I think its about time I watched Apocalypse now as well, back then it was a big deal that Brando got paid $1 Million to do such a small part. Great film.

Pretty original, but has a very kooky ending and gets a bit carried away. Nick Cage does a pretty good job of acting but everyone else's acting gets worse and worse. Such an awesome movie! Her English isn't that great yet, and it was fortunate that the Blu-ray offers Mandarin subtitles. So we watched it with that on. Now I know why all those Chinese to English translations you see on chop stick wrappers and other Chinese things are so bad!!

It's funny she mentioned the translation of the title because I just saw this on the IMDB website for "Shawshank":

"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women."

Simply one of the best movies of all time. I don't give a ^^^^ about what film snobs say.

Well, DLed Wolverine after people said it was out and it was blah. I wanted more Deadpool for sure. The rest of the movie was ok, but Ryan Renolds is so ^^^^ing hilarious as Deadpool. I hope he get's his own movie, even though it wouldn't work with the way they ruined this movie.

Another Marvel movie ruined. The only Marvel movie I've really enjoyed so far is Iron Man. And maybe the first X-Men movie.

At the movies Watchmen: 7/10 actions scenes were great but the moview dragged. I guess it was made more for fans of the comics and not towards the casual movie goer.

On DVD Soup of the Day: 7/10 low budget but flick full of laughs and adult situations. Would have been a few points higher if they would have boosted the nudity.

Great films obviously, but personally I wasn't too overly impressed with the Blu treatment - I don't know how much they could have done anyway with the age of the first two.
