Rango 8/10. I loved this flick, and all it's references to classic westerns. The characters looked amazing, and the voice acting was exceptional. This isn't a movie for 6 year olds, but my 10 year olds loved it, and the adults are going to get all the in jokes. Great stuff - I wonder if it has a shot at best animated film of the year? With Cars 2 coming out from Pixar this year, it's possible they won't have a strong showing.

Red Riding Hood - I feel like I got in touch with my inner homosexual/10.

Great, incredible, awesome flick...

if you are a 14-year-old girl.

It teatered on the brink of being a fair movie but was submarined by lousy effects for the wolf and complete pretty-boy-ing of the two male leads.

For just a while...I started thinking that the two male leads were going to end up as the happy-ever-after couple in the end.

^ False rating.

How could my own rating of a movie be false? :cuckoo:

Legend of the Guardians- 7/10
Pleasantly surprising and enjoyable for a movie I thought I was going to hate.

3 O'clock High- 9/10
I've just always loved this movie, don't know why. It has a predictable storyline that has been run into the ground, and very little action, but I've just always enjoyed it.

Disturbing Behavior- 5/10
Never even heard of this movie until I watched it last night when I couldn't sleep, but it was barely watchable and they gave away the mystery way too quick. Just dumb.

Paranormal Activity 2 - 5/10. I really like the first, but this one takes a long time to get to the point. Pretty dull for almost an hour, then it starts rolling along. Not enough build up this time, unlike the original which had a good escalation of events. Here, it seems like they go from almost 0 to 100 in one shot. However, I do like that this is not a traditional sequel or prequel - it starts a couple months before the first film, leading up to that, then a little bit is at the same time, then a little bit is after the first one, giving you some additional information. This is a different set of events, but it dovetails in with the first - they get points for the basic premise, they just didn't pull it off particularly well.

While watching this, some of the characters reminded me of ones from old westerns. I could almost see the actor they were trying to portray.

I was surprised that the Clint Eastwood character was voiced by Olyphant!

Michael Crawford

Yes, he did an amazingly good impersonation!

It was good until Wovlerine got back to TMI and learned his wife never died. Up until that point I give the movie a 7/10. Because of that point on, the mutants that aren't needed and unravel the plot, Deadpool and his horrible look, the fight with Victor being so quick, them being friends again, the fight on the reactor, and the memory loss, I take away a point each. 1/10 for me.

I watched season 1 and tbh I was a bit let down because my best friend who has almost identical taste in movies etc, hyped it as the greatest thing ever. I still felt like The Wire, Sopranos, and Walking Dead have more engaging plots and characters though I did enjoy Dexter himself. Well, Limitless is based on the book 'The Dark Fields', which was released in 2001. I'm pretty sure Rest was originally published in 2008.

Strange Days: 8 / 10.

It's funny when you re-watch an older "futuristic" movie. This movie came out in 1995 and took place right before the year 2000. Of course, the movie is a dated now, but features some great performances by Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett and Tom Sizemore. A ggod cast of actors as Michael Wincott, Juliette Lewis, Vincent Donofrio and William Fichtner are in it as well.

Geez......you guys got to watch movies like that in school?

In elemetary school (grades 1-5) at the end of the year when things were winding down, they would just fold like all the classes in that grade togeather and take us to the gym or cafeteria and show a movie for the last 2 days. 5th grade we watched Ferris Bueller, then after that in middle school and high school we just had our own telivison station for school news and playing the media class videos. Its like the channel for school announcements and closing except we actually had an entire studio with blue screens and news and weather, and a control room etc.

The Pee-Wee Herman Show on Broadway (on HBO) - 10/10

I was really disappointed in it. I didn't realize it was just a rehash of the original 1980 live show (which was so much better) with some new bits thrown in. It also made me miss Phil Hartman. :(

Really? I guess knowing that that's what it would be, I was actually impressed that it was so enjoyable.

I thought he did an incredible job of recapturing the magic of the show(And everything coming to life on stage) while at the same time updating and modernizing it and upping the anti on the jokes for a slightly more grown up audience without going overboard. I felt involved and like I was in the audience at home, just like a little kid again watching it in my living room after elementary school. Basically he managed to succeed for me, at everything that things like Indy 4, Die Hard 4, etc, and all those old comebacks failed.

Not to mention that Paul is something like 59-60 years old and was still running around, screaming and performing Pee Wee just as well as ever. The supporting and playhouse cast was also perfect. For me Paul is just as brilliant now as he ever was even with Phil Hartman and Tim Burton's help. A very very rare 10/10.

Yeah, but the original live show was definitely for adults. Even more so. I just don't think redoing the same parts from the same show he did 30 where as good as the original. At least they didn't bring in another actor to play Captain Carl. But I did think Phil Lamarr did a great job of filling Lawrence Fishburne's shoes.

I do give Reubens a lot of credit; He still does a great Pee Wee. And I thought the new bits where great. I just wish there had been more of it. If I had the chance to see the new show live, I'd definitely go.

One of my favorite clips from the original live show-

The Fly (1958) - 8/10. A great 50's B movie, with an well designed way of telling the story that elevated it above others during that same period. Of course, it helps to have Vincent Price in it, but it's just a classic story that's well told. This hasn't been released on blu yet, has it?

The Fly (1986) - 8/10. Technically not a remake, since both movies were adapted from a short story, but a great example that you can take the same concept and do it well more than once. The original movie was actually very close to the actual story, and the 80's version had very little to do with it outside of the basic premise. Stil, Goldblum makes this film with his quirky fly-like movements. This is a blu I need to snag from the bargain bin.

Joe vs. The Volcano

Well, yeah, but that was very early in his career. A few of his 80s comedies weren't that great. I think he's made some pretty good choices since then.

Sorry, had to post in defense of Joe vs. the Volcano. It's not Oscar-worthy, I'll give you that. But it's definitely underrated. There is a lot of subtext in there, and it's much more profound and subvertive than it appears. I love in the beginning the whole factory work section, how he says he's losing his "sole". The dreary cinematography in those scenes is so spot on, and much more sophisticated than a rom-com deserves.

From Wikipedia:

The image of a winding road keeps recurring in the movie. It is part of the company logo, the shape of the pathway leading up to Joe's workplace, visible in the plaster damage in Joe's apartment, in the lightning bolt that destroys Patricia's yacht, and in the path to the volcano. "It's taken a long time meeting you, a long time on a crooked road", Joe states late in the movie. Other recurring images include ducks, the façade of the factory, dogs, and the moon.

Meg Ryan plays three parts, a symbol for Joe seeming to meet the same woman as a love interest. Joe states, "Did I ever tell you that the first time I saw you, I felt I'd seen you before?" to Dee Dee and to Patricia.

When Joe is ready to shed one chapter of his life for another, he also sheds a hat — one in the office and one at the dock.

The lampshade in Joe's office has a picture of the volcano. There is also a volcano painted on the side of a building early in the film.

Dee Dee sees Joe looking at his shoe and asks him what's wrong. He says "I'm losing my sole." Patricia tells Joe aboard the Tweedledum that she's "soul sick." Later, Joe asks the chief of the Waponis about a doll the chief is holding. The chief refers to it as his tobi, and says "It's my soul." Joe says "I hope you don't lose it", to which the chief replies, "So do I."

When Joe is packing his office after quitting, he packs three books: Robinson Crusoe (a novel of self-discovery), Romeo and Juliet (a play about true love), and The Odyssey (an epic poem about spiritual growth) . The themes of these books are the underlying themes to the movie itself.

Master and Commander: Far side of the World 6/10 The sound on this bluray is un-freakin-believable. Just simply amazing sound. The picture is crystal clear at times but not always. The story was just too slow. Not enough action.

Yeah the Koreans are doing some bad @$$ $#!t.

Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance - 6.5/10

After seeing "I Saw The Devil" & "Old Boy" my expectations were a tad too high. Everything was good except for the story, too uneventful.

Old Boy was some serious Mind F'ing.

I can't disagree more strongly with this. I LOVE Master and Commander! 10/10 for me! I think the pacing is spot on and the action is more cerebral and smart instead of kinetic, and still pumps the adrenaline with tension and real danger.

I lent this movie to a friend of mine when the DVD first came out and he was a big fan of Pirates of the Caribbean. He thought the movie was boring and not enough action too. I kinda think Pirates of the Caribbean ruined this kind of ship-faring adventure movie because everyone expects the pace and tone from Pirates, especially since they came out the same year. M&C is a whole other kind of adventure and I think it's a shame that it draws comparisons, whether intentional or not.

I'm not accusing you of doing that, EXOTICLEX. And I don't want to seem like I'm jumping down your throat for this, since you're entitled to your opinion of course. It just makes me sad that an exceptional movie like M&C gets unfairly maligned for being too slow. :(

I love this flick. I have always been a fan of the story and I have always thought this movie took it to the big screen very, very well. My singular complaint is that I wish they had made the movie longer and had gone a little farther into the details of the story. It would not have changed the story, but would just have added a little depth to it.

Korean popcorn flick. Supporting cast was weak, the story was so-so. The only saving grace of the film was the main villain & it still wasn't enough to elevate the movie. Couldn't careless for the main character either.

Sucker Punch: 7/10
Is this film as good as Zack Snyder's previous works? No. Will this film ever be a classic? Unlikely, unless perhaps a cult classic in a distant future. Is this film fun to watch? Yes.
Unfortunately, the story isn't what you would call good... Sometimes it drags, other times it goes too fast and in the end it's nothing really epic or whatever... But, it puts the girls in some great action scenes and that is where the strength of this film lies in my opinion.
As usual with Zack Snyder films, the visuals are absolutely fantastic and the character, creature, and world design is just awesome! These scenes are designed to be watched on the big screen in the theatre!

So that's what Sucker Punch is. A fun film to spend a couple of hours and see some hot girls in some awesome action scenes. That's about it though. Still, I enjoyed it a lot so it gets a 7.

Some things I would've liked to see different though:

Being set in a mental hospital, and in the imagination of certain characters, one can't help to think of certain aspects from films like Shutter Island or Inception. Only, where those films have decent developed stories and explanations for what is going on, this kinda lacks that. It's not like it's unclear but it could've been worked out better.

And secondly, and this is the thing that I think is really unfortunate that it wasn't in the film, is the fact that we don't get much background on the girls.
Babydoll's story is pretty clear. Of Rocket's and Sweet Pea's, we get an idea, but the other 2 girls just are there, and that's about it. I would've liked it to be more of a character thing, having some more background to the girls, show them in some scenes where you can see how they become and finally are friends in the mental hospital. It all just happens it seems so we can get to the action part...I think it's too bad that all that isn't there. Those are just the things that could've bumped this film up to an 8, maybe even a 9 for me.

CelticPredator
03-25-2011, 02:07 PM
I'm sure stuff was cut out. Zack usually has a directors cut for his flicks.

Also, I dont see how this was like Inception. That was about dreams, this was about imagination. Although the main theme is similer. But I never thought to compare the two.

Maybe it was the giant dragon chasing the plane over a LOTR esq castle....:lol

The Entity

I never said it was like Inception. Just that certain elements made me think about it.

Mainly the action sequences which where basically imaginations within an imagination. That made me think of dreams within dreams.

I certainly hope this will get a director's cut that delves deeper into characters backstories.

Sucker Punch --6/10. It seemed like Snyder took everything from a bunch of different bunch of genres and threw it in a blender, added hot girls in skimpy outfits, and this is where we arrive. The plot was there, but very shallow and almost like Snyder was trying to be too clever with it. The special effects are just insanely awesome, and I'm sure I'll be renting this on Blu Ray when it comes out. It was an entertaining movie, but I'm certainly not going to be buying this or spending another $10 to see it in the movie theater.

~~Almost forgot. The soundtrack was really good too. I bought it on iTunes when I got home, and recommend giving it a listen if you get a chance.
