Let Me In - 7.5 out of 10

Not even close to as good as the Swedish original but not nearly as bad as the trailers made it look.

I'd actually go 9/10 with Let the Right One In coming in slightly below at 8/10

I felt the paring away of the superfluous bit characters to focus on the main story actually took this one up a notch.

I saw let me in the other day too. Although they made a few good changes, I think some things they added and omitted were very bad choices.

I didn't think it was terrible, but very unnecessary a remake.

They sacrificed some subtlety for tacky ness. Like cg vampire attacks. (with the exception of the cat attack scene in the original) Seriously...I didn't really need to see off the wall backflips. Biting the throat would be sufficient. Heck, a scene like the girl in the hospital biting her own vein was brutal enough...why have the matrix attacks else where?

The father was much more tragic and a lot less creepy for better or for worse. i like richard jenkins alot so maybe I'm biased.

The kids had less chemistry this time and it made his replacing the father much more depressing. much less romantic.

Also, finally saw true grit. I liked it alot, but I think it will be a one time view for me. I wasn't too crazy about the girl's character (although she did a great job) and it felt alittle bit slow. Overall definitely worth seeing.

Some of these were problems I had with it as well. I just feel as though they cut up an already cut up original. It lost the atmosphere, the score was way to bombastic, and Kodi and Chloe don't hold the screen the way the original children did. But like I said, I was completely shocked that it was at least good from what I had seen from the trailers.

The King's Speech - 10/10

Great movie. I usually don't like historical movies, but this was great. Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, and Geoffrey Rush's performances were outstanding.

And it had comedic elements too, which was good.

Too bad it's not PG-13 though, could have had a larger audience. The cursing bits were funny but unnecessary.

Black Swan: 9.5/10 I enjoyed this film immensely! The way the whole story was built leading to an awesome conclusion was just great! Dark, weird, creepy... just amazing! Plus a damn good performance by Natalie Portman!

The Day The Earth Stood Still (Remake): 7/10 I actually enjoyed it. I heard a lot of bad things about it but it was a decent film IMO.

Eagle Eye: 6.5/10 Just a fun action thriller, no more no less.

Without A Paddle: 5.5/10 Had some funny moments here and there, but nothing special.

Australia: 7/10 I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I'm not really a fan of Nicolle Kidman but I guess she did a decent job. Hugh Jackman was pretty awesome like usual. The scenes of the outback and nature were very beautiful!

The Expendables: 6.5 / 10. Maybe if I had watched this prior ti watching the A-Team, I would have given it a better score. As it was, lousy dialogue, ridiculous action...it was cool to see all the action heroes of my youth together in one movie. But JUST having all these guys in one film isn't enough; the novelty can't carry the movie.

I can't think of one decent thing to say about this movie! I certainly think it is easily the worst movie I have ever sat through at the cinema!

Javier Bardem is great as expected but that does not excuse this horrendous film!!!

Rewatched B]The Men who Stare at Goats[/B] - 9/10

Bridges, Clooney, and McGregor are so great in this movie. Everything is slightly over the top. Clooney is a "Jedi Mind Warrior" in a secret US Govt psychic power project. Needless to say there's lots of winks and nudges at McGregor's Star Wars connection. This movie is some ways seems to be the shower Ewan took to get the prequels off of him.

Anyone who liked "Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas" should check out this movie.

I've seen it several times, I like it more with each viewing. Lots of fun.

Yeah when you go into something blind you tend to not do that. But since you asked here's what the description would have read for me...

"Based on Kazuo Ishiguro's acclaimed novel, this sci-fi drama from director Mark Romanek is centered on thirtysomething Kathy (Carey Mulligan), who reflects on her time spent at Hailsham, an English boarding school, alongside classmates Ruth (Keira Knightley) and Tommy (Andrew Garfield). Born for an unusual reason, the three struggle with their destiny and their love triangle. Charlotte Rampling plays headmistress Miss Emily."

Strange, cause this is what I see on the back of the dvd (typing it straight from the back)

"Academy Award Nominees Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley co-star with talented newcomer Andrew Garfield (The social Network) in this poignant and powerful film. Kathy (Mulligan), Ruth (knightley) and Tommy (Garfield) are best friends who grow up together at an English boarding School with a Chilling secret. When they learn the shocking truth - that they are genetically engineered clones raised to be organ donors - they embrace their fleeting chance to live and love. Based on the acclaimed novel by Kazuo Ishiguro (The Remains of the Day), Never Let Me Go is an intriguing exploration of hope and humanity."

Thanks man I wanted to walk into that one blind. :lol :lol :lol.

Joking aside if your interested in eugenics you should look into North Carolina's past legislation on it. It was legal in NC until a couple years ago, I believe. It wasn't practiced however.

The movie has nothing to do with eugenics. After watching the family it follows around you'll want to institute a eugenics program and wipe these people off the planet.

Chinatown(Jack Nicholson): 8/10

Another Nicholson classic that i haven't seen before.
Some would say Cuckoo's Nest, others the Shining, others might even say 5 Easy Pieces. But for me, this is the definitive Jack Nicholson performance. Love that movie.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it and thought the action sequences were very well choreographed and executed. I thought the cast was fantastic.

Inception: 5/5
I finally got around to watching it. Wow. Nolan is pretty amazing. There is such an elegance in his visual style. His style is not overt or obvious like say, Spielberg or Fincher (two directors I love and love because of their visual style). But it's definitely elegant and intelligent.

At first I wasn't thrilled about the ending, but once I read a little about what Nolan was thinking, it made it more palatable for me. I thought the idea that the whole thing was a dream after all would have been such a downer. But the point, according to Nolan, is that Cobb went to be with his children instead of caring what the outcome of the spinning top would be. Very poetic. And elegant. ;)

Great movie. I'll definitely pick it up on BR.

And I didn't really like Memento when I first saw it. I mean, it was okay and all but it didn't affect me like his current movies have. I will have to watch it again and re-assess.

Pretty good. The best non-Pixar animated movie and comes close to Pixar level (just shy of Pixar, still). I loved how the dragons' characterizations resembled dogs/cats/horses. Very touching how close their connection became. And the action was pretty good.
Kudos for having the main guy lose a leg. Pretty gutsy for a kid's/family animated movie.

I also really loved the dragon illustrations in the book Hiccup was reading and the credits in the end. Does anyone know if they're in the Art of HTTYD book?

Let Me In: 8/10: Better than the Swedish version, and took some liberties with the book that were well worth it. I particularly like the photo of the 'father' with Abby, which was not the way it was played in the book, but always seemed to me to be the more interesting way for the story to go. They fit in pieces of the story (like the woman dying at the hospital) to get the point across without dragging down the flow of the story - nicely done adaptation.

Fantastic movie starring Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker. Very dark psychothriller, and I was surprised to find that it was based on a true story. Which really makes you wonder how much hope humanity has... o_o Anyhow, it all boils down to our sense of right and wrong being extinguished, only to be replaced by whether or not a red light blinks to tell us if what we've done is right or not.

Bottom line... see it. It's a remake of a 2001 German flick, so at least this shocker of a story will get more distribution. Solid performances throughout, so I'm not complaining.

Sure as hell is more fun to listen too. So there for..better.

It's good....but I dont get that same feeling when I throw in some Tron Legacy.

Only one track is better then Flynn Lives this year, and that's Time from Inception. Those two songs got to me the most out of anything this year.

The Green Hornet [2011] - 2/10
- Fell asleep not once, but TWICE, while watching the movie, and I never have fallen asleep in movies no matter how bad they are!
- Weird representation of The Green Hornet, failed my expectations
- Seth Rogen is a funny man, but I still wonder why he was considered for the role in the first place?!
- Left the cinema 2/3 into the movie.. We tried bearing with it, but it is just pathetic

:lol I can't take anyone's bad review seriously when they say they "fell asleep" during the movie. If you left 2/3 through the movie how tired were you that you fell asleep twice in one hour? :rotfl Did you fall asleep at every action scene? :slap

Also, Seth Rogen wrote and co-produced it. It was his project, so if you didn't like it it's all his fault.

^ one of Burton's best. I like that it's not as visual, except when it needs to be. It's a lot more effective. Plus it's easier to follow the characters without the typical weirdness Burton does now.

Just watched The Town on Blu tonight. It was good, but not as good as I was expecting based on what I'd heard. I was kind of annoyed by a lot of it, actually. The tattoo on the neck thing and some other random plot scenarios. Also, I just don't like that guy from The Hurt Locker - something about his acting takes me out of it... and boy, has he been type cast after just one movie!

- Superboob Christina Hendricks lending her voice for Lois Lane :naughty

Knight and Day: 7.5/10

Surprisingly good. I was almost dreading watching it, after watching the terrible, terrible "Killers" with A___on Kutcher. But this doesn't even compare with it. The action was pretty good, had a quick pace and it was overall entertaining.

Although I don't know why the title is "Knight and Day"
I know the Cruise character turns out to be named Knight, but it seemed so obvious to name Cameron Diaz's character Day but they didn't. Bizarre.

Red Hood was fantastic. My favorite of the direct-to-video movies.

Superman/Shazam was good, but it was a short feature. You can watch it on Netflix streaming right now. The rest of the Superman/Shazam disk is the other (excellent) shorts they've done on recent DC movies - "The Spectre", "Green Arrow", and "Jonah Hex"
