Nice to hear so many glowing reviews for Let Me In. I just watched Let the Right One In and thought it was quite good. I have Let Me In on my queue but considered dropping it since the original was so good I didn't think the remake would do it justice, or at least leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. But with so many thinking it was just as good or at least worthy of the first, I think I'll go ahead and watch it!

The Black Swan: 9/10

Really really well done film. Extremely creepy in parts, Natalie Portman's acting was superb - a lock in for Best Actress this year methings. Film overall is easily in top 3 i've seen this year.

The King's Speech - 9/10

Wow - was not expecting this to be that good, despite the hype. But the film is superbly written and acted. Nice mix of humour and seriousness throughout as was the case with The Queen. Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are both superb. Another top 3 film for me overall

V for Vendetta (rewatched) - 8.5/10

One of the best comic to film adaptions ever made IMO.

Gave the HT plenty of love this weekend.

Piranha 3D 5/10 - glad I didn't see it in 3-D. They definitely went for the grossest possible, but plenty of nice T&A as well. Reminded me of the schlocky drive in movies of my youth.

The Town - 7/10 - not as big a fan as some are of the film. I really enjoyed Afleck's performance, but I thought Hamm was awful and stiff as the cop.

Devil - 7/10 - enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Good atmosphere both inside and out of the elevator, nice acting on the part of some pretty much unknown character actors, and while most of it was obvious, I thought there was some nice surprises at the end. Since this was number 1 of 'night chronicles', I assume he plans on doing more of this, with him writing and producing and someone else directing. I think it's a wise choice.

Fair enough ... the one in Caligula was better, though. Maybe there just weren't enough notably attractive women in the Matrix movies.

I like the real work fight scene better than the matrix fight scene.

Most of the time, I find myself waiting around for the next matrix scene rather than caring about the bleak real world stuff.

V for Vendetta (rewatched) - 8.5/10

One of the best comic to film adaptions ever made IMO.

I had one important nitpick with the movie (which was excellent in many ways) BUT ...

they show V unmasked. Not the clearest shot, but it's there. This was a big deal when compared to the GN where Evey contemplated removing his mask as she mourns him. She then realizes that it doesn't matter what he looked like because he could have been anybody. At this point she mentally fills in the question mark of his face with characters she's encountered earlier in the story, random people she's never met... V could be anyone. That was his power.

In the movie this is not possible. We have a vague idea of what V looks like.

It didn't ruin the movie for me, but it was an important change I didn't agree with.

Great movie! There were some real hints of genius here and there (like the firing pin and the handcuffs behind the back in a car things). I'm surprised Brian Bloom co-wrote the movie. I remember him as a teen heartthrob in the mid-80s. He was pretty bad-ass in the movie too. My one nit-pick as an A-Team TV show fan is that I didn't think Face's character was quite right. What I loved about Face in the show was that he was a little bit prissy--he never liked to get dirty. To him it was all about the con and getting something out of a situation with the least bit of trouble (and ICK! Dirk looked TERRIBLE in his cameo!). Cooper played him a little too wild and loving the danger. Kinda like the Hannibal character in the TV show was. But I accepted it as a new interpretation. I really hope they make a sequel!

First of all they went way too young on this thing. I mean why not start the kid off in High School and not Junior High. Jackie Chan was very good in it but he needed to do a fight scene with the dojo leader. Despite the slow story the tournament scenes were GREAT. Thought they did a very good job with those scenes. In many ways it was just like the original but it just wasn't the original.

I probably would have given this a 6.5 or 7 but I was geeking over seeing such a close homage to Vermithrax Pejorative from Dragonslayer.

If Ali Larter had worn a whip cream bikini while fighting the Executioner and Wesker I would have given it a full 10/10 but again, Paul WS Anderson misses a golden oppertunity.

Perhaps you're a fan of the original radio Green Hornet, but for someone who's knowledge of the Green Hornet was that he fights crime with an asian sidekick who throws darts, this was the best superhero movie I've seen in a long time.

Wyatt Earp -- 8.5/10. Surprisingly good. I liked the casting quite a bit better than Tombstone. Costner was shocklingly good as Earp. He's usually a bit of a Streisand in most of his movies -- soft, romantic lead, etc. (as he was in Robin Hood). He was entirely the opposite in this. I was suspect of the casting, but Costner pulled it off.

Same with Dennis Quaid as Doc Holliday. Quaid is usually pretty generic -- but this performance reminded me more of him as Sam Houston in The Alamo than of any of his other performances. Madsen was great as Virgil Earp. Good story. Good gunfights. A great western. Maybe the best movie version of Tombstone/Earp/Gunfight at the OK Corral, etc.

I think it is a great film, but would agree that it isn't a 10/10 as the atmosphere is really the best thing about it.

Just like the Thing.

The atmosphere is iconic but for me Blade Runner is all about the story.

Deckard is this tortured soul who is trying to fit in and figure out who he is, he gets sucked back into this system that has used him his entire life only to discover he's the very thing he's hunted all along. His search for his own humanity leads him to discover he's not even human, he's just a pawn in this horrible existence for these replicants. Theyre born for assassanation, manual labor, or prostitution, they do the horrible things deemed too terrible for real people. From that realisation, with everyone he retires, he slips further away from what he wants to be.

Then you have Batty who embraces what he is and everything and just wants to keep himself alive any way he can. They start as these polar opposites and there stories converge until they basically become the same person. Deckard has the oppurtunity taken from Batty, to run, to live and to love.

For me its about discovering your own humanity, who you are, and the meaning of life.

Also most general movie going people my age haven't even heard of it, so if anyting I'd say its underrated. Practically the only thing keeping a new fanbase is Ridley released new versions which is likely done since the final cut is his vision unhindered by studio interferance.

Ive heard so much about this movie and I really wanted to like it. It had a great concept but I think because it had such a low budget they werent really able to pull off what could have been. Basically about alien invasion, but for once I'll say it relied to much on character development/story and not enough alien invasion. I mean For a movie called Monsters I was expecting more, but again I think that was in part due to the low budget. It didnt seem low budget at all though. A decent movie, but just wish there was more alien footage.

Predators - 6.5/10 - Movie was alright till the ending battles, they were meh. Adrien Brody was no Dutch and his raspy voice was so cheese. Looked great on Bluray.

Schock - 7/10 - Classic 70's haunted house horror moive.

Monsters - 5/10
Ive heard so much about this movie and I really wanted to like it. It had a great concept but I think because it had such a low budget they werent really able to pull off what could have been. Basically about alien invasion, but for once I'll say it relied to much on character development/story and not enough alien invasion. I mean For a movie called Monsters I was expecting more, but again I think that was in part due to the low budget. It didnt seem low budget at all though. A decent movie, but just wish there was more alien footage.

I liked this film a lot more than you did. I'd give it a solid 7/10 because the character development and interaction was so good. I liked that the film treated its monsters as more than just...monsters. The final sequence in the film was wonderful and leads into the films very first scenes.

I look forward to see what the director does with the upcoming Godzilla film.

Little Monsters - This is a tough one to grade because I loved it as a kid but it doesn't hold up as well. It is however still pretty damn creepy by any standard as a kid's film so I'm going to give it a 6.5/10 for having balls. It's up on youtube if you want to check it out.

Didn't pretend to be anything other than what it was. Cast alone was worth watching just to see these normally heavy hitters doing something silly and fun.

I plan on watching this over the weekend... saw it was available on Netflix instant. Not going in with high hopes, but at least hope its fun for the cheese factor.

The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo: 9/10
Excellent movie, I had not idea what it was about going into it and was very impressed. Not for the squeamish, but a great stand-alone film. I also didn't know there were sequels, but thanks to Netflix instant I was able to watch all of them.

The Girl who Played with Fire: 6/10
Not as impressed with the second film, probably largely do to the fact that its the 2nd act and leaves you with a lot of questions and not much resolution. Also, its still odd to go from having Lisbeth being central to solving the mystery, to having the central mystery be all about her... but still enjoyable.

The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest: 7/10
Better than the 2nd movie, but still not as good as the first. This one was actually a bit more boring than the sequel (IMO) but the ending is quite satistfying:
At least the court proceedings, watching the psychiatrist squirm was very enjoyable.

Despicable Me: 7/10
Surprisingly enjoyable film. Still not at Pixar level, but a very fun and creative flick. The BluRay also looked fantastic; a really awesome picture :rock

The A-Team (2010): 9 /10. Expected a mindless entertainer. It was definitely entertaining, but a lot better in terms of plot and dialogue than I anticipated. I also enjoyed that each of the four team members were allowed to "shine"; often in team type movies, the focus is on one or two members while the others are thrown a bone or two. Casting was great as well. Liam Neeson is a personal favorite, and was great as Hannibal. Bradley Cooper was good, and I really enjoyed Quinton Jackson as B.A.. And how could I forget Sharlto Copley as Murdock? Loved his nod to Wikus when he did his South African accent...

I'd actually go 9/10 with Let the Right One In coming in slightly below at 8/10

I felt the paring away of the superfluous bit characters to focus on the main story actually took this one up a notch.

I saw let me in the other day too. Although they made a few good changes, I think some things they added and omitted were very bad choices.

I didn't think it was terrible, but very unnecessary a remake.

They sacrificed some subtlety for tacky ness. Like cg vampire attacks. (with the exception of the cat attack scene in the original) Seriously...I didn't really need to see off the wall backflips. Biting the throat would be sufficient. Heck, a scene like the girl in the hospital biting her own vein was brutal enough...why have the matrix attacks else where?

The father was much more tragic and a lot less creepy for better or for worse. i like richard jenkins alot so maybe I'm biased.

The kids had less chemistry this time and it made his replacing the father much more depressing. much less romantic.

Also, finally saw true grit. I liked it alot, but I think it will be a one time view for me. I wasn't too crazy about the girl's character (although she did a great job) and it felt alittle bit slow. Overall definitely worth seeing.
