The Town - 8 out of 10

Every once and a while an actor or actress comes along that is just so god awful you really wonder how they slipped in the cracks. Blake Lively has now joined that special club of awfulness for me. She was such a distractingly horrible actress that I wanted to score the film lower. It was the first and hopefully last time I'll see her in anything.

Surprised I liked this. Would've gave it higher score if not for the overly "jewy" performance by Jay Baruchel. It was like watching Mort from Family guy for 2 hours. It got old and annoying REAL fast. And I actually liked dude in Tropic Thunder and Knocked Up. Other than that.. cool movie.

I actually loved this film. I didn't have any hope for it and wasn't excited in any way but I got exactly what I expected.
Guns , violence , muscles , explosions , fights and swearing. Awesome movie imo.

The A-team. 7/10

Another good movie but I was way to tired to pay enough attention and didn't really seem to end up liking any of the main characters even though I'm a big fan of most of the main actors in this one. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of the original A-team.

I thought the Expendables was really messy. I enjoyed it the first time I saw it...but the more I thought about it, and the second time I watched it....blah. Boring characters, even for action heroes...weak villians...and the CGI...oh god. CGI blood ruined it for me. Felt so PG-13...

Black Swan - 8/10 - Thought it was pretty darn good. Had a great muff munching scene and Portman was awesome. Hope she wins Best Actress.

Better than I expected it to be. Super cheesy and the effects are not the best, but brought back some Indy memories and not in a bad way. It's weird to see Jake Gyllenhaal in an 'action hero' role, but he definitely has the charisma for it. A couple of those smiles *swoon* ... He also had good back-and-forth with the lead actress (who I don't really enjoy - she's like a poor man's Rachel Weisz - but I liked her more in this than in Clash of the Titans). Good fun!

HOLY CRAP - just looked up the budget - that movie cost $200 million ?! It didn't look like it at all. The sets looked like an old Zorro or Errol Flynn movie! Probably not one of the best examples for Blu-Ray because the HD just really makes the sets stand out as looking like a soap opera or something...

Watched a lot of movies with family over the long Christmas weekend (Not having access to the Internet gave me the time):

Black Swan 8/10 - Certainly the most intense ballet movie I've ever seen, I suppose. I really liked Portman and Cassell in this, but did not like Mila Kunis. Also, the plot is predictable and melodramatic.

Ponyo 9/10 - Not Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's best, but still head over heels better than most cgi animated films out there. The animation and storytelling is just superb, and Ponyo the mermaid girl is just adorable.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed 8/10 - Gemma Arterton was really great in this, much better here than she's allowed to be in lesser films like Prince of Persia and Clash of the Titans and Bond: QoS. Pretty good kidnapping thriller.

Australia 6/10 - Epic length, but the story never clicked with me. Too poetic and romantic for a subject with such a depressing history.

Tron Legacy 6.9/10 - Really wanted to like this, and I liked some aspects, I.e. the effects, the general art design, battles, Quorra. Didn't like everything else, plot-wise.

Pretty good movie with nice Christian tones and whatnot. But the ending and the whole last Bible and post apocalyptic times thing was depressing, and it makes me hope that it's never like that.

At least you got to see it. Still hasn't arrived in any of my local theaters. :dunno My GF thinks it's funny that I'm waiting to see it. I told her it has Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis getting it on. Then she says "Oh, now I see why."

didn't watch it in the theatre. there's some really good quality DLs out there for this one already.

Interesting.

A compelling argument that Inception was overrated was that it was too easy to follow and made too much sense. :lol

The mechanics of the plot are all pretty straight forward, it's the subtext and character development that makes it great.

Had a big blockbuster night yesterday (felt like a huge waste of money since I have netflix). Gf picked everything except Hot Tub Time Machine:

Hot Tub Time Machine - 4/10 (a couple funny parts, but a bit too mean spirited and bitter for my tastes. Some of the gross out humor just wasn't necessary imo)

Easy A - 8.5/10 (a really good 80's teen comedy, I'm big on 80's nostalgia so I loved it. the parents in the movie were a bit much and kept me from giving it a 9 or 10)

Going the Distance - 1/10 (Couldn't even finish watching this crap)

How can you be big on 80's nostalgia and give HTTM 4/10??

I liked both of the flicks you mentioned....but dude...HTTM was hilarious. If nothing else then for the scene where he is gassing himself in the garage to that Motley Crue song.

- but -

Digital Jeff was really Polar Expressionless (sorry) and they shouldn't have used him at the beginning of the film. He couldn't pass for real, especially in the shots he shares with the young Sam.

A friend of mine suggested they should have made all of the game grid people artificial so he wouldn't stand out, with the exception of Old Flynn and Quorra since she's special.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 9/10

Third time I have watched this and enjoyed it most this time round, maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind on first and second viewing

I think I like Jack Sparrow the character more so than the actual films, this for me is Depp at his true best, finest role yet for me

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 8.5/10

Not quite as good as the first but still full of laughs and very entertaining, some of the best CGI imo to date

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End 5/10

I find this one a hard slog, this one seems to lack any real direction and just doesn't have that fun eliment that the first two have. Whilst the first two felt magical and had a sense of the fantastical whilst making me laugh this seemed to lack everything that made the first two so popular imo. Not sure what others feel about this but I was also a little overwhelmed with all the puzzling plots going on

I've seen clips of the real fighter and he seems like a soft spoken, humble type of a guy (which would make sense since he has such strong personalities in his family).

Wahlberg just went into his default tough squinting guy routine.

That's odd because I remember him in Boogie Nights and in that film Wahlberg's character (Dirk Diggler) was very soft-spoken and passive for the most part. And in Shymalan's The Happening Wahlberg did the same thing, almost.

Nice. I haven't seen that one in a long time.

~~We went to see the Tourist last night. 6/10 It's not a bad movie, but it's quite boring and doesn't introduce anything that hasn't been seen. I will say though that Angelina was looking much better in this movie than she did in Salt. I'm quite disappointed in Johnny Depp with this movie. I think it's because I've grown so accustomed to seeing him as Jack Sparrow that anything else is underwhelming.

True Grit - 7.5/10 - A solid western, better than the original. The girl stole the movie and Bridges bested the Duke.

Session 9 - 7/10 - Decent low budget horror story in the same vein as The Shining.

Triangle - 6/10 - Was a interesting movie that tried to be a bit full of itself. A Nexflix Recommendation!

True Grit - 7.5/10. In first version, I was watching John Wayne do his stuff (albeit with an eyepatch). Enjoyable, but Wayne's persona dominated. In this newer version, I was watching Rooster Cogburn himself. And Damon's take on LaBeouf was a good balance to both Mattie and Rooster. Ensemble acting good all around.

The King's Speech - 9.5/10. Again, great ensemble acting all around. Rush kept it really tight and provided an excellent counter to Firth. Bonham-Carter finally getting out of the bigger-than-life, over-the-top characters and revisiting the subtlety of performance she has been capable of. Colin Firth cannot do a poor acting job IMO. If he doesn't win Best Actor Oscar for this, there is no justice in this world.

Lots of movie watching....

Insomnia - 9.5/10 Definitely worth the price of a DVD
Easy-A - 9/10 Emma Stone = YUM!!!!
Salt - 6/10 figured it out right away.
Step-Up 3 - 8/10 Very enjoyable
Vampires Suck - I fell asleep nuff said
Tron Legacy - 6/10 The 2nd time was meh the CGI for clu kept bothering me throughout and started to give me a headache. Plus Olivia Wilde just looks terrible in it. I really enjoy the outfits in the film and wouldn't mind putting one together.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - 7/10 A great tribute to the various types of video games and totally off the wall.

Eden Lake 7/10..Justice was not served. After watching it I was unsatisfied and frankly pissed off. Once again just like "Buried" the bad guy should never survive at the end especially when they've done so much wrong the whole film. I wish Eden Lake ended like Last House on the Left, I was very satisfied with the bad guys demise :)

Alfred Hitchcock's Rope 9/10

The score I gave the film it earned mostly through displaying noteworthy camera technique (not surprising considering it's Hitchcock). Continuous long takes abound, it's really fascinating to focus on. The story is good too, and Jimmy Stewart is one of my fave actors from his era.

Monsters 8.5\10
Small low budget film that for some reason I really loved. Very cool minimal soundtrack too, imo...

Resident Evil : Afterlife 4\10
Really wanted to like this more...

Inception 10\10
One of the best films I´ve seen in the last couple of years. Brutal soundtrack!

Black Swan - 6/10. Portman and all performances were very good, but it wasn't nearly the psychological "thriller" so many have been saying. And frankly, the movie felt cold. I couldn't warm up to any of the characters.

The Last Castle -- 7.5/10. Redford is a three-star general sent to a military prison, run by a corrupt semi-high-ranking military bureaucrat (James Gandolfini). The plot actually reminded me a little of Gladiator (the general who became a slave ...), though on a smaller scale and in a different setting. There are also parallels to Shawshank. Worth a watch.

Air Force One -- 9/10. I forgot how good this movie was. Pretty much plays like a Tom Clancy movie with President Jack Ryan.

Indie comedy about a matress salesman trying to adopy a baby from China. Horrible movie

What Just happened: 2/10
robert Deniro starring as a producer, with Sean Penn and Bruce Willis. Another one that didn't really have a point or any real humor.

Outsourced: 7/10
Original movie that the TV show is based on. Pretty funny and better than the show.

The Lottery: 6/10
Documentary about charter schools in NY. Pretty informative although clearly biased.

Operation Endgame: 6/10
Kind of a strange action movie with a decent cast, but nothing special.

Legion: 8/10
for some reason I really liked this movie although I'm 100% sure that i'm in the minority.

Fright night: 7.5/10
i'd heard good things about this movie and I got a pretty decent vampire flick.

City Island: 9/10
pretty funny movie with Andy Garcia.

Resident Evil Afterlife: 7/10
Mindless entertainment.

Technically not a movie, but The Wire: Season 1: 10 / 10. Can't believe I never watched this series before now. Television at its best. I thought all the praises saying [U]The Wire[U] is the best dramatic series in the history of television was hyperbole, but it's not. The fifteen episode (?) first season was so compelling, I watched it straight through this weekend. Probably could have done it in one day but I had to shut it off for a few hours at a time. Two many f bombs and other cuss words being dropped while my four and five years olds were walking around.

Can't wait to get home and get started on season two.

I really liked the use of snow and snowfall, something you don't see often in Westerns.

It was pretty gritty when it needed to be though,

I was caught off guard by Damon's sexual advances at Mattie, or just the way she got thrown around in genral, the treatment of native americans, and the way the violence would kick in was sort of unexpected.

The Cohen bros haven't let me down yet.

Possibly the most pretentious film I've seen in years. Is "The Black Swan" as bad as this piece of crap?
