I thought I would enjoy it based on the trailers and what little I knew from pre-release stuff. During the movie, though, I felt like the guy who walks into a coffee shop and immediately realizes he made a mistake once he discovers he has neither a beret nor an ironic t-shirt on like every single other person in the building.

I just wanted entertainment, not to be bashed over the head with how clever you think you are.

:goodpost:

the trailer for Scott Pilgram seemed way over the top (in a bad way). Do you guys remember Speed Racer, that was ridiculous but not as bad as Scott Pilgram.

WOW... And the Speed Racer movie was horrible.

It's not that it's over the top. It's that it's Juno with hipsters.

Juno is another movie I'm not interested in seeing.

A little slow in parts while they lay the groundwork for their cause but overal a very well made film about the slaughter of dolphins in Japan.

Great Animated movie. The Blu-Ray Picture is as good as it gets.
Watched it again as I am so excited to see the movie, and July is sooo far away.
Now I need to see Batman Under The Red Hood today.

Karate Kid (2010)-6/10,it wasn't bad but now 26 years later and 12 year old kids this time i didn't get the same feeling i did with the original.A fun watch for Kids today though, but a real waste for me.

The Snake kick was a little over the top though, should have been more basic like the first one

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo 9/10

Absolutely spot on!

Really really enjoyed this film

I love the character Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace), what a supeb thriller, this is most certainly a stand out thriller for me, the plot is well paced and the story has enough to keep you thinking and keep you on the edge of r seat. I constantly found myself wanting things to hurry along so i could know the outcome desperately :lol

I am positively sure Noomi will win the oscar for best actress, it will be an outrage if she doesnt, this is a fin fine display from her

This is a must see! I will definately now read the books and i very much look forward to catching The Girl Who Played With Fire :)

Please don't over look this film like i did for a while, its a must but be warned it is subtitled, but thats a good thing in my book. I really hope the rumours of this being remade by Hollywood are untrue, leave this perfect piece alone!!!

Yeah I am afraid it is true.
The one saving grace is that the Director is David Fincher.
The Girl who played with fire should be out this month, and the wife and I have our fingers crossed that it will play in our area.

Yeah just been reading more into the remake now, seems Daniel Craig is lined up for Blomqvist, seems like a good casting decision and also maybe Robin Wright Penn for Lisbeth, nice casting and i guess i am still very interested but why is this not a stand alone film, why does it have to be remade?

Yeah i am also looking for cinemas in my area now that will hopefully play it, have you read the book? Sounds excellent and we get some backstory of Lisbeth in this one it seems :)

My wife is a big fan of the books, and has read the whole trilogy.
I have not read the books so I was unprepared for the first film, and found myself putting my hands over my eyes in the parole officer's apartment scene :lol
Not sure about Robin wright Penn as she's in her forties, way too old. I think Ellen Page would be the best choice seeing as she was in Hard Candy.

Awesome i really want to read the books now, has your wife said if there was alot of difference between the first book and the movie? Would it be worth reading?

Yeah the apartment scene with her guardian was awesome!!! As violent/sexual as it was in places it was all done in a way that was necessary and not overly graphic for no reason, i thought it was spot on i really did!

Yeah i know what you mean, Page could be a good call, she did play the sameish sort of character in Hard Candy as you say, yeah she could pull Lisbeth off

I kinda liked it,nothing special and it is a very depressing movie but it tells a story about a guy that many people might recognize themselves in.Low goals in life and all he cared about was football, that was his life and passion...When he got beat up by his favourite Quarterback he had nothing to live for,and the ending was a special moment for the movie, yes lame but it fits with the movie so.
Have a open mind and you'll like this movie.

Funny though, his character in "King of Queens"(Spence) was the excact same type of guy, poor guy doesn't have anything but depressing roles :lol

I've really enjoyed the DC animated films lately and I'm a big Batman fan...this one is just lacking though. The animation looks rushed in parts and careless and I hate it when they change the voice actors of the Batman and Joker. Overall it's decent, just not fantastic and forgetful.

Ong Bak is a fantastic film. I wish more western audiences could have been exposed to it and Tony Jaa.

Youth in Revolt: 7 / 10. Not bad, had a few moments. I like Michael Cera, but he plays essentially the same character in every film he does. This film gives him a little more leeway to get out of his typecasting.

Hot Tub Time Machine: 7.5 / 10. A good laugh and entertaining. I usually don't rate comedies that high, however.

I haven't seen this yet, mostly because I don't particularly like Cera. But it was filmed at my old high school (and they even used the real name, Hazel Park High School, which they so rarely do!) and they blue up a fake store front here in Ann Arbor as well, so I need to rent it.

The Karate Kid [2010] - 6/10
- Not as bad as critics said it was, but also not that great
- Jackie Chan only had one (1) fight scene, so I hated it, considering that I'm a fan of his action movies
- Mainly for kids, so it's a great movie for your family

The Departed [2006] - 10/10
- One of Leonardo DiCaprio's best movies; watch it if you haven't done so!!!
- Cast includes Matt Damon, Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Ray Winstone & Jack Nicholson
- I wish I was able to watch this in the big screen, grrr!!! It was too awesome to let it pass!

Crocodile Dundee -- 8/10. I forgot how good this movie was.

Zardoz -- 3/10. 70's post-apocalyptic sci-fi with Sean Connery. Freaking weird movie. Humanity is separated into two classes, "brutals" (savages) and "immortals" (hippies that don't die, and only age as punishment for crimes). Connery is a "brutal" who stows away into "immortal" land (basically a commune), and causes havok in their serene little lives. I'd have rated it lower, but there was a good bit of nudity.

I just saw it last night and it was really good. I too cant wait to buy it. I was afraid that with all the hype it wouldn't hold up but it was even better. It has to be one of the greatest paced movies I have ever seen. For a nearly three hour movie it was so smooth. To me, it's Nolan's best for sure. It was smart, consistent, very complete. Piranha 3D

I feel sorry for the animator(s) who had to animate Jerry O'Connell's consumed and rejected *rhymes with genis*. That scene was too much... *barfs* Piranha 3D is by far the most gruesome and soft-core porn movie I have ever seen. This was my buddy's choice this weekend, and in our group of friends we each have a pick and it was his turn, and we HAVE to go. It's only fair since we decided it makes it easier rather than fighting for what we should see the following weekend. I can proudly say this wasn't my choice. This has some great tremendous eye candy, and skin galore. And definitely not a movie to take the kids to see or people with weak stomachs.

A more appropriate breakdown of Piranha 3D: It's the one movie that not only pushes the boundaries, but then pushes the empty space beyond those boundaries. I will say this for it, even though I am giving this movie a low score, it will be one movie that will stay with you for a long time. *shudders*

This movie's everything wrong with what Hollywood's been giving us as an "action movie" of late. No effort in the story, characters are cheap archetypes that are poorly laid out, action scenes are boring and trivial, and don't forget the CG flames, I miss my real flames. I smirked once when he talked about his niece's soccer team, that's what this movie got from me, The A-Team made me jump out of my seat to gape at my friends when we figured out they were actually flying a mother ____ing tank This movie was the A-Team Lite, made for an 8 year old who just wants to see fast cars and big guns. We looked up who wrote it after and it's apparently the same guy who wrote the story for The Rundown, which pretty much explains it.

^^^ Not necessarily.

The Expendables - 4.5/10

Found it an awful, sloppy, boring mess. The action was routine, the editing was choppy and cut too close to make any sense of, the performances were stale as McDonald's, even the jokes sucked. Don't even get me started on all the CG kills or the complete jerk off of an ending.

Mickey Rourke was the only character I connected with whatsoever, and he's in the film a whole 10 minutes.

This was the most disappointed I've been over a film all year. Hell, I liked Jonah Hex more than this. I was thinking about leaving the theater halfway through, honestly, that never happens. I was that bored.

7.5/10

Come on man, no real plot? I agree about the racial rambles, but the plot is solid. What about the mystery of who turned him in? Or the last 24 hours he spends with the people he loves. The ending to that movie gets me every time. The monologue with Brian Cox. Powerful stuff.

plasmid303
08-22-2010, 04:02 PM
Ehhh the plot is pretty bare-bones, man. Guy gets busted, and the movie takes place during the day before he goes to prison. All the in-between stuff isn't really plot. The 'mystery' of who turned him in isn't really significant because for most of the film you suspect that it's the girlfriend.

I do agree, the ending is very powerful. That's why I gave the film a 7.5/10 instead of a 7. :D

Gladiator -- 10/10. If I could go higher, I would. Quite possibly the best guy's-guys move ever made.

3:10 to Yuma -- 10/10. Maybe the best western I've ever watched. "Y'know ... for a one-legged farmer, he's one tough sunnuvabich."

Die Another Day -- 7/10. Cool start. Weak villain. I liked the henchman (Zao). Halle Berry was not good (stop trying to give James Bond a chick-partner). Some good action sequences ... and a couple of God-awful ones (some of the computer effects were painful). Badass car.

The World is Not Enough -- 8/10. One of the better Brosnan Bond movies. Liked the villain, and the bad girl. But, Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist? Come on. There are a lot of pretty actresses that can also pull off a "genius" role ... but Richards isn't one of them.

The Paper Chase -- 3/10. The story of a few self-important, pedantic, pretentious ass-clowns going through their first year at Harvard Law School. It was recommended to me because I went to law school. It was two hours of pathetic introspection, and weird idolization of some professor. Not even law students/ lawyers are that self-involved. John Hausman was pretty good as the intimidating law professor ... the rest of the characters were pretty well intolerable.

The Expendables - 8/10.

I for one liked this film a lot and truthfully these types of movies aren't really my thing anymore. Maybe it was the evening all together as my gaming buddies got together for some BBQ and then hit the flick.

I just thought the sequences and the story (big topic here in other threads but for me it was just perfect...not too much, not completely obsolete) were great together and I had a great time.

I thought the part with Arnold, Stallone, and Willis was great too...great banter back and forth!

Not as horrendous as Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, Date Movie, & Disaster Movie. Alot worse than Not Another Teen Movie and Scary Movie 1 & 2. If you haven't seen a Twilight movie, don't bother watching...the jokes will go over your head. To me, there wasn't a :lol moment in the movie. It was what is was...ugh.

2/10

this was the worst movie than blair witch or paranormal put together. from the trailers it looked like it would be suspenseful and scary but it was far from it. the only thing that helped get a two rating from me was that the girl was creepy. i guess if you liked blair witch you might enjoy this but this movie was a waste of 1 hr 40 mins and waste of money.

Avatar: 9 / 10. I didn't have the chance to see Avatar in the big screen when it first came out. I enjoyed the movie; while it wasn't spectatcular in terms of story, I appreciated what James Cameron was able to accomplish on a technical level. And while I though Avatar looked great in Blu-Ray on my 70" 1080P, it was FANTASTIC in 3D. This is how it's meant to be watched, on the big screen in 3D. I like how the 3D effects were subdued and intentionally understated; too often, 3D movies go for that cheap 3D thrill (i.e. things flying out at the audience). The 3D in this film served to give the movie depth without the cheap thrills. I give Avatar an 8 by itself, but for me, the 3d experience bumps it up another point.

No its not based on the hillside strangler. Its basically just a messed up kid with messed up thoughts and well...goes out and does it. Think Columbine crossed over with every other "went crazy and shot up the place story" Its not for everyone and was rather violent and disturbing, but something about was just interesting to me.
