'The Happening'
Did not like this one in the least. Sometimes a story is more effective with little to no explanation (i.e; HALLOWEEN) but it didn't work here. If you're going to introduce a complex scientific theory, it needs a lot more meat on its bones then M. Night offered here. I felt the story was weak and ineffective. I fell asleep watching it and had to watch the missed portion the next day. Turns out I missed 20 minutes, and it also turned out I did not need the last 20 minutes to have the complete story. There's a news guy at the end that lays out what the "happening" really was, which was useless. They had already divulged every bit of that info over the course of the story. I really like Night's work, even the movies others didn't like. But this one really dropped the ball. I like the theory put forth; it was actually pretty creepy. But in the "meat" department, this was just a naked bone.

It scared the hell out of me. It's been a while since I was actually scared and this did it. It's brutal. A girls reflection pulles her jaw off while shes in the tub and her jaws just hanging there being pulled on while shes screaming and the blood flows. Terrrible.

Good Will Smith Vehicle.
He sure has come along way as an actor.
Emotionally wrenching to watch the final act, not a good first date movie.:lol
Didnt explore Smiths motivations enough considering the enormity of his actions.
Good performances by Rosario Dawson and Woody Harrelson.
Wouldve liked more follow up on these characters at the end.
Kind of a mixed message: "Value what you have when you have it",
but in the end I dont think Smiths character valued himself enough.
But the theme of "self sacrifice" has always been a key one in my favorite movies.
You cant have a classic movie or a true hero with out it but yet I cant say this movie or the main character are either.

Yeah definitely, dont think much about the quality because all of them are better than dvd anyway, the only movie ive heard that has terrible quality is Terminator 1.

Sure the olders movies from the early 80s doesnt have crystal clear picture and sound, but what can you expect from such an old movie? As far as the sound goes it doesnt sound any better than a dvd, still sound like an good`old 80s movie.

when the guy takes the bottle at 3:00,the music that starts there,"THE THING" main theme,i simply love it,couldnt have a better theme than this one for such a movie!

When a film goes from blue to normal, the blue shots outside means they forgot to set their white balance.. the temperature of the cameras was off.

They also had some mediocre camera angles.... some shots were shaky. The whole movie was a mess IMO. Surprising considering the cast.

Not a big fan of a 15 minute story dragged out over 2 hours. The people I went with fell asleep during the movie. Thankfully I saw it at the cheapseats. Would have hated to pay full price.

Have downloaded the Stephen King TV Series (haven't watched it yet) King's softened on the movie, but you still get the feeling he's very bitter about what Kubrik did to his story. Then again I would be too if the I had a story that the director had put his name over the top.

But for atmosphere you can't fault it, even if I felt that was more due to the music which at times felt overly intrusive, something to do with those low notes.
Alien apparantly had the same problem during it's test screenings, the low notes were causing people to dash to the toilets :lol

Don't waste your time, it was horrible. A good kick in King's ass for ^^^^^ing in the first place. The Shining (IMO) is a masterpiece, Kubrick's version was so much more better, he took a great book and adapted it into what would work on the screen. This is something King couldn't appreciate.

My Bloody Valentine 3D

The 3D - 7/10 - It was kewl sometimes, but made the movie look too video game like. Some things worked and lots didn't

The movie - 5/10 - Had some good gore FX, but the acting was terrible from everyone in it, even for a slasher flick. It drug on too long.

Seems accurate. I cant wait....:banana

Don't waste your time, it was horrible. A good kick in King's ass for ^^^^^ing in the first place. The Shining (IMO) is a masterpiece, Kubrick's version was so much more better, he took a great book and adapted it into what would work on the screen. This is something King couldn't appreciate.

Just my 2 cents........:)

Still need to read the book so I can decide on which one I like better.
Was annoying to find out that Kubrik personally took out over 20 minutes of footage from the European release. Just like he prevented Clockwork Orange getting a release in the UK after there was a copycat style killing.

Guess what happened after Kurbik died though, it came straight out on DVD :lol

As for Let the Right One In, that gets a fat A. I was lucky to see it here in the D.C. area. It only played for a week or 2 at the most. Definitely the best foreign film of the year and one of the best vampire flick of all time. The dvd doesn't hit til March. I've heard lots of good things about the book as well.

Grand Turino - B. Eastwood is great, story is good, and it goes through plenty of emotions. I didn't care for some for the supporting actors.

Underworld 3 - C-. Forgettable, not much better than a sci-fi channel flick. Bill Nighy's acting was pretty damn great though. Gore and action is pretty good.

My Bloody Valentine 3D - B. Please see this film. Without the 3D I'd give it a C, but with it the movie goes to a whole new level of fun. Make sure the theater is showing it in digital 3D (not all of them are). Trust me, you'll have plenty of fun.

Oldboy is very good, in my opinion, but I saw it once and never want to watch it again. . .ever. I feel similarly about Requiem for a Dream. Some movies just make you feel bad, even if they are good.

Last movie I saw was First Blood. I give it a B+

No Rocky by any means, but very good.

Requiem for a Dream was so messed up... it's a fine piece of film making. If Oldboy had you feeling bad, stay away from Sympathy for Mr. Vengence. I loved it, but you'll feel far worse. Love First Blood, but who doesn't.

Gone Baby Gone - 4/5. Some strong acting, and a promising start but toward the end it kinda feels like an episode of CSI. Still, raises some important questions.

He goes crazy because the hotel is working its supernatural powers on him, so by the end it is easy to persuade him to do its dirty work. The point of the picture at the end is that Jack has become a part of the hotel as permanent trapped soul embedded forever.

Well at least this is how I figured it out to be.
