The Collector 8/10 very compelling and sometimes frightening horror movie. I really recommend this for those who like the Saw films before those got all tired.

Hmm...you say "films" yet Saw got old after part 1. Saw was a great movie. Everything beyond that is trash.

So I have no idea if I'll like it..lol. I own it though. On this flash drive/

There's some truth to what you're saying. I did enjoy Saw 2 and didn't hate Saw 3 so those get a passing grade from me. Saw really is a downhill tumbling franchise.

The Collector is not as good as Saw. Don't go in expecting that. It's kind of like Saw's less talented cousin that knows how to do a decent impression.

This is true but didn't explain why they made a ton of them ............ all in theatres too nonetheless. I agree though, part 1 (as twisted as the story was) was a good film. After that? Blah.

Extreme Measures - 2/10

You know how some people can't watch horror flicks? That's me an movies that are about sick kids. I can barely sit still, and not because I'm bored - I put myself in the parent's place and hate it.

So yea, I'm not going to probably like this movie (it was my wife's pick), but even going in knowing that, it was really, really bad. What the Hell happened to Brendan Fraser?

And you know how some people age well? Like Clint Eastwood, or Paul Newman, or Robert Redford? Harrison Ford isn't one of those. I don't like to rag on people about getting old because I am and I can tell you it's a totally unfair suck, but Father Time is making Indy his _____.

I still believe Saw 3 is one of the top 4 worst movies ever made. Watching that movie was just a chore. It was disgusting for no reason, bad characters, story, ending, acting, events, deaths, everything. Hate it so much.

Same reason there are two dozen Freddy Krueger, Friday the 13th, and Halloween movies -- because at one point they still drew in crowds to theaters.

The first 2 were really good IMO, but after that they were doing nothing but just pumping them out every year to get as much $$ before people got tired of them. I might go and buy a Saw boxed set in Blu if they ever stop making them, but that's just because I'm a completionist with movies/TV series.

2012 - 5.5/10 - Well, John Cussak didn't save the world, but he did save a Ark, that if his group would not have snuck onto, would have had zero problems. Anyway, ok movie. Horrible FX though, especially the cars flipping and falling out of the plane . .

The Box - 6.5 - Thought it was decent. Was nothing like I was expecting going into it. Lots of unanswered questions though.

Shrek Forever After - 3/10 - Man, what a terrible movie. This should have been direct to video stuff. The previous movies were not great, but they at least had some zing to them. This one is flat. Puss and the Gingerbread Man are the only ones that had amusing parts. Was a paycheck movie by the top 3 "actors".

Okay so I been watching a few films lately, here we go:

Avatar 9/10 - Loved it, great story, FX and actors. All round good film.

Die hard 2 - 7/10, not as good as original and I prefer 3 to this one but a good film to watch.

Knowing (I think it was called that anyway, pedicted disasters film) - Oh my goodness, thats and hour and half I've never getting back :banghead and what a rediculous ending :dunno

The Lost Boys - 9/10, terrific film, a classic.

FOTR - 10/10 As always, although it was wierd watching the Theatrical Edition but it's still an incredible film :rock

Finding Nemo - 9/10, LOVE this film!, I just wish it were a little longer.

Jurassic Park - 10/10, Love it, love it, love it!.

2012 - 5/10 Was really disapointed by this.

Gorillas in the Mist - 8/10 Always a great film to watch :rock

^^^^ i forgot about that :lol i think that might have been the only part i enjoyed. and to think there were rumours going around at one point that john cena would play dutch in a predator remake. a horrible horrible thought. actually, the only half-decent wwe film i've seen was the condemned with stone cold, even though it was about as original as a pair of IVIKE socks.

Wait are the WWE actually making those films? or just staring the WWE actors you mean?

WWE is producing them. Million Dollar Man's son just starred in a DTV sequel to one of the Cena movies, I think.

yeah, i think vince mcmahon got an executive production credit on the scorpion king, and i think it all went ahead from there. mr. kennedy was in behind enemy lines 3 i believe. vince is a maniac - the guy can't get enough cash.

it's kinda weird though that while the actual wwe has been turned to watered down bloodless PG crap, the films are quite brutal still. long gone are the days of suburban commando, no holds barred and mr. nannny.

Not the 10 or 11 out of 10 that Raiders is, but its probably my favorite of the series. Classic adventure that never gets old, and absolutely Indy at his most badass.

Yep. Too bad Lucas had to have such a painful divorce but it lead to the creation of an Indy movie with real cajones.

Not really sure how I feel about this one. I enjoyed the visuals of it (animation was top-notch) and the voice acting was very good. But somehow the story, or at least pace didn't feel right. It wasn't boring or hard to watch, but I didn't feel much of a connection either.

So worth the watch, but not a movie I'll likely watch again or ever need to own.

i felt exactly the same. something about it just didn't work. maybe the animated characters couldn't pull off the subtlety for wes anderson's style. the expressions of his actors are always so minimal but in animated form you don't even see those. i'm not sure - but i definitely agree. something just made me watch it quite passively (by that i don't mean usually i get up, scream at characters, smack the TV, and fling my poo at the screen).

That's a perfect way to describe it... it was a passive viewing experience. Unlike other animated films like films like Up or Spirited Away, or even other Wes Anderson film.

Pretty much sums it up for me too and I'm going to go with you on the 6/10. Mostly because I thought the visuals were fresh and something different then all the animated films we get nowadays.

What else......ah.

Legion - 5/10.
There just really isn't anything good about this movie and my interest was peaked going into it. Failed on pretty much all accounts except for the old woman in the diner...she is still wicked.

For anyone who's ever seen this movie...do they EVER say why they don't want the baby to be born? What the baby's purpose in life is? I'm not uber religious so maybe I'm missing something here but I never once heard them say anything about why they were fighting over it coming into the world.

Valentine's Day - 6/10.
Not bad for a chick flick and loaded with actors. I just felt like some of the performances were mailed in and a little campy.

Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths - 9/10.
I'm more of a Marvel guy but I like the core DC characters and I've of course also watched all the animated films to date 'cause I dig 'em! :yess:. That said I really enjoyed this one. Action packed, story gets told quickly, and the animation seemed a notch above the previous attempts. Something about the color and overall thought that went into the fight scenes impressed me.

I didn't love the voice casting for Batman and Superman. It was passable but not as good as they've done in the past and that's why I'm knocking it down from a perfect score. Bring on the Red Hood!

Really liked this movie. Yes, its slightly depressing but thats the story: Finding hope when all is in despair. Visually brilliant and Viggo is fantastic as always! Scene that really got me was when Viggo has the gun in the boys mouth when he thinks they're about to be captured and the boy cries saying "What will I see?!" Just a powerful scene that made me want to tear up.

Cop Out - 9/10

Man this movie was awesome. I haven't enjoyed a Kevin Smith movie so much since Mallrats, and I haven't laughed for the majority of a film at the cinema since Pineapple Express. It's like the perfect homage (not parody) to 80s buddy cop movies. You can see elements of Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, Running Scared and Another Stakeout all rolled into one - the characters, dialogue, music, one-liners, even the plot flaws.

I think it helps if you like Tracey Morgan (i frikking love him in 30 rock), and you're an 80s kid. If not, I imagine this movie would annoy you. It was great to see a film like this after so long. You could tell even Bruce Willis had fun making it.

the funniest (and cheesiest) thing happened during the screening. there were only 4 people in the whole theater, myself and 2 friends, and one guy on his own who sat across the aisle from us. freaky loner right? anyway, about half way through we were all laughing so hard, we high fived him across the aisle. it's rare that a movie makes you do that with a complete stranger (and potential schizo pervert). he must have been an 80s child too.

a movie like avatar would never have the same effect - i looked across the aisle from me during that and saw some guy with his dong out, painting it with blue nail varnish. must have been one of those guys who'd seen it 3 or 4 times (dramatization, may not have happened).

That is a great movie, I'd say 8.5/10 and I know it's boring and every sad person says it... but try reading the book as well, you will not be able to put it down. And if you liked No Country for Old Men read that as well, both by Cormac McCarthy (then read the border trilogy, you'll love them all!)

Prince of Persia, the sands of time- 6/10, Hmmmm, not a terrible movie, just not a good one, and as easy on the eye as Gemma Arterton is, she was wrong for this part, her voice really began to grate on me after a while, far too 'jolly hockey sticks'.

I totally love it. Freddy was back to that perfect balance between Evil and Funny. I dig his design, and I love the story. It's very original imo. Way more original then "Freddy wants to kill so and so so he can do so and so and then so and so" stuff which sequels made him do.

Maybe it's just me. But it just feels way more like a classy horror film then other things. Plus, it deals with some very disturbing issues, with the child stuff.

I was pleased with how this turned out. I think it's the best video game to film adaptation yet. I think Gyllenhaal did a fine job as the prince. He portrayed the prince quite well. He carried the film better then I had expected. Ben Kingsley did fantastic in his role. Was a good villain, I think. Gemma Arterton, she's one of the sexiest woman out there. What more need I say? Decent movie. But I think it was so popular because it was so pretty. But the characters, with the exception of Neytiri, really didn't impress me at all. And the character of Jake left me kind of cold - there wasn't enough exploration of him as he was before to really feel anything when he makes his choice in the movie.

This is Dances with Wolves, Fern Gully and Pocahontas rolled into one movie - with very pretty colors to entice you into Pandora.

Not even on the same level as the first one but just a fun flick. The OCP board still have some great moments, particularly the old man. The media is also hilariously portrayed, they are being slaughtered by Cain and still running twoard him as the first chance they get so as not to miss the story. Also gotta give props to the stuntmen, particularly the guy in the bar who doesn't get out of the way of the truck in time. :lol You can see his face as he realises he's not getting out of the way and he gets nailed and dragged.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time 7/10

Fun but fleeting. I liked how respectfully the film handled the source material, which is a surprising and refreshing feeling when it comes to viewing movies based on video games. all too often I feel embarrassed being a fan of a video game franchise that is abused and tossed aside by Hollywood. I guess I should give some kudos to Bruckheimer and crew. I have some complaints though: The fighting sequences were too hectic in how they were cut/edited. Also, I think they could've made Dastan a bit more lively, he's too straightforward and his one-liners often come out flat.

At the very least, the film was good enough that a purchase of Hot Toys' Dastan figure is warranted for me. BUT! The outfit Hot Toys chose for their figure is not the one I want. Dastan wears a different outfit for the majority of the film, and the one the figure sports is only worn for a short time at the beginning.

Still love this movie and even at home (not in 3D) its still looks great and is very enjoyable. Its not poetry or even that original, but still just very well done. Its nearly a 10/10 but there is some lag when you get into Jake's training.

Burton's Alice - I would rate it as an 8/10 solely for how beautiful the PQ was on Blu; really well done, second only to Avatar as far as I'm concerned. The film is oddly paced and kinda disjointed but I really lost myself in the visuals. The audio isn't quite perfect, it seemed uneven in a few parts, but it was a great experience.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - 7.5/10

I finally came to the realization that this film isn't so much a sequel as it is a reboot of the entire series (consciously or unconsciously due to the bad taste TOD left in Spielberg's mouth.) The emasculated, Beta-male, gay-painter-disguise wearing, used-and-abused-by-women Indy for most of the movie most certainly was not the same man who just two/three years prior (going by movie chronology) faced down an entire thuggee cult and Belloq and the Nazis and had a "take her or leave her" approach to beautiful celebrity women he encountered. The prologue with River Phoenix just further cements the fact that with TLC they just cleared the palette and started from scratch.

TLC isn't a throwback to adventure serials of decades past, it has more in common with wacky 80's action comedies like Top Secret or Jewel of the Nile than even other Indy movies themselves. Tom Hanks or Val Kilmer could have easily played the lead in TLC, as its almost certainly a parody of itself for most of the film, and you wouldn't even notice. Heck it might have even been a better movie because it would have been easier to "get" the jokes.

I'd be more upset over it being such a poor representation of the Indy we knew from Raiders and TOD (he's every bit as emasculated in TLC as Vader became in the PT or Han was in the SW:SE) if it wasn't such a DARN GOOD father/son adventure comedy. Its a reboot, and a lesser version of the character on top of that, but it has a real heart, some fantastic action sequences, and is genuinely funny! Even umpteen times watching the movie I still chuckle when Henry drops the lighter on the rug, shoots up the tail of their biplane, and says "You call this archaeology?" As a cartoony adventure with even cartoonier villains, its a riot.

It does do harm to the character of Indy if you take all the films as one continuous story, but it doesn't need to. Each Indy film, with the possible exception of KOTCS, introduces the character as if its the first chapter in the story and closes out the movie with him getting the girl/getting married/riding off into the sunset. Very easy to compartmentalize the chapters and mix and max the genres to accentuate the aspects of Indy that you, the viewer, like most.

TLC is lesser, dismissable, even at times uninspired--but its still a fun, appreciated, and even "worthy" chapter in this beloved film franchise. Just make sure you're in the right mood beforehand.

Hot Shots, 1+2 - 9/10, i love Hot Shots, these along with some of Mel Brookes spoofs just show how pathetic todays spoof genre really is. Hot Shots and such take welll known films and base a new story set in a familier universe, We knew Hot Shots was parodying Top Gun without the facts and scenes being recreated almost shot for shot for the sake of a lame joke such seen in things like 'Superhero, Disaster, Date movie' Charlie Sheen has great comedic timing and its cool to see him riff along with future 'two and a half men' alumni.

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus : 1/10 And I like goofy movies. But this thing makes Mansquito look like Citizen Kane.

LOL. You know Mike, whenever I see a movie that I don't like and want to give it a bad rating, I always remind myself of the terrible flicks on SyFy and use those as the bench mark for 0 and 1. Is this the one where the shark bites the airplane out of the sky? This weekend I watched Mega Piranha and just laughed for its duration.

Michael Crawford
06-02-2010, 07:59 AM
Yep, that would be it. Sadly, that's one of a very few times we see the shark in action. They skimped on the effects in a major way, and yet the flick is 2 hours (with commercials) long! Way too many scenes of Debbie Gibson standing on the beach looking out at the ocean.

Yea, the shark and octopus scenes had to be cheesy due to cost, but I don't have a problem with that. Cheesy effects is why I love a flick like this, and they opted out of that, giving us instead way too much dialog spoken by really bad actors.

It's also one of those examples where the director and or editor got their hands on a new idea (for them) and beat it into the ground. Here it's the use of changing the film speed and using light flashes to transition scenes. It serves no purpose, and they do it over, and over, and over...

But perhaps the worst is the use of on screen text to tell us where we are. When we haven't changed locations in the last three scenes. And they are using the same exterior shot every time to start the scene. YES, I GET IT! I KNOW WHERE THEY ARE!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 7.5/10

Just finished watching all four Indy movies (chronologically according to the years the stories take place starting with TOD) this week. KOTCS did a nice job of closing out the series. It actually plays better with a fresh watching of the previous films than as a stand-alone picture IMO. The series did feel a bit long in the tooth by the time I got to KOTCS, but it was still fun and even with the absurdity of the fridge and the monkeys it really wasn't offensive in any way (it certainly didn't weaken the character like we saw in TLC.)

I really love the look of the alien chamber and the design of the skeletons, and it was neat that only Indy stood in the foreground as the ship departed at the end. A totally unnecessary movie but a fun epilogue to one of cinema's great icons.

3 short films about you guessed it... Tokyo!... it's hard to rate it as a whole...

So I'll split it...

Michael Gondry's Interior Design, loved it!! Very powerful message, and a bit sad... But my favorite one of the three 10/10

Leos Carax's Merde, it's quite bizarre... but heavily criticizing the over exposure of terrorism and the legal system... quite weird and disturbing, but good! 8.5/10

Finally, Bong Joon-ho's Shaking Tokyo, it's an amazing depiction of the effects of loneliness in a big city... really beautiful and a bit shocking...
Liked it a lot!! 9/10
